Steph put some flowers “borrowed” from her neighbour Mrs Robinson’s garden next to her cold breakfast and costly plates, and took a photo. She wanted to brighten the colours on her picture. Choosing a filter (滤镜), she noticed TrueBeauty downloaded before. Her picture looked perfect with that filter. She posted it on the social media for her 15k followers, hoping they would wish to have the same life as she showed. Then she threw away the food now that it was cold.
Steph was surprised to get so few likes and so many negative comments. She looked again at the picture she had posted. Her picture showed a horrible breakfast with flies all over them and the flowers were dead. She tried to delete (删除) the photo, but she couldn’t. Just then, she received a message. Steph read:
Dear User,
I know that each of you truly cares about showing yourself.
Are you as beautiful on the inside as on the outside? If you want your pictures to show the real you, it’s time to be as beautiful in real life as on your social media.
Love,
True Beauty
PS. You can’t remove the filter or delete the pictures you posted using it. After the first time you use TrueBeauty, it will change all your photos from that moment on!
Steph made her account private to hide the ugly pictures. She didn’t want to do anything if she couldn’t post photos of her life. With nothing to do, she went downstairs, past Mrs Robinson’s garden. She noticed the smell of the flowers for the first time. Lovely! Then she saw Mrs Robinson watering the plants. She offered to help. A couple of hours later, they were done with the work. Steph had enjoyed herself a lot. They took a picture, standing together in front of the roses and smiling.
Later that evening Steph looked at the picture on her phone. She changed the colours a little bit. The roses looked beautiful anyway, with or without any changes. Nothing could improve the smiles on her and Mrs Robinson’s faces. A really beautiful picture! She posted this picture. It looked exactly the same online! She made her account public again and added some text to the photo: Beauty in the garden.
4. Why did Steph post the filtered picture online?
A. To show off her life. B. To try out a new filter.
C. To share her tasty breakfast. D. To teach photography skills.
5. What can we learn about TrueBeauty?
A. It improves the ugly pictures. B. It calls on us to behave honestly.
C. It advises us to hide comments. D. It cares about its users’ feelings.
6. How did Steph feel about gardening with Mrs Robinson?
A. Uplifted. B. Confused. C. Confident. D. Lucky.
7. What would the author most possibly write next?
A. Steph no longer posted her life on social media.
B. Steph successfully removed the TrueBeauty app.
C. Steph learned to improve her appreciation of beauty.
D. Steph inspired her followers to value their inner self.
A 5. B 6. A 7. D

Then she threw away the food now that it was cold.(她的照片用那个滤镜看起来很完美。 故选A。

根据倒数第二段“Then she saw Mrs Robinson watering the plants. She offered to help. A couple of hours later, they were done with the work. Steph had enjoyed herself a lot. They took a picture, standing together in front of the roses and smiling.(然后她看见罗宾逊太太在给植物浇水。她主动提出帮忙。几个小时后,他们完成了工作。斯蒂芬玩得很开心。他们一起站在玫瑰前,微笑着照了相)”可知,斯蒂芬觉得和罗宾逊太太一起做园艺振奋精神。故选A。

Start reading recent internet conversations about AI, and you’ll find a topic that surfaces with increasing frequency: ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical advice.
“Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,” begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New York. After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three-day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily management of health as a complement (补充) to advice from medical professionals. Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage symptoms and treatment for the cancer he’s been diagnosed with. He frequently shows AI test results and asks it to translate them into comprehensible English. Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action-planning session.”
Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already.
8. What does Bethany Crystal’s case in paragraph 2 indicate?
A. The popularity of ChatGPT. B. The significance of regular checkups.
C. The lack of medical knowledge. D. The value of AI-aided medical diagnosis.
9. What do we know about ChatGPT Health?
A. Its users’ privacy is better protected. B. It provides better health care than doctors.
C. It has 100 million registered users. D. It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend.
10. What impact has AI brought to Rosen?
A. It improves the cure rate for his disease.
B. It reduces his trust in medical personnel.
C. It offers him real-time translation at the doctor’s.
D. It changes the way he communicates with his doctor.
11. What does the underlined word “hazards” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders.
D 9. A 10. D 11. B
根据第二段“After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
根据第三段“In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. (1月初,该公司宣布推出一个新平台ChatGPT Health,称其为共享医疗记录和数据提供了增强的安全性)”可知,ChatGPT Health平台为用户分享的病例和数据提供了更高的安全性,即能够更好保护用户的隐私。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action- planning session.” (Rosen说,人工智能改变了他与医生的关系。他说:“当我去看医生时,我不再需要他向我解释太多。”。“我的医生预约更像是一次行动计划会议。”)”可知,人工智能改变了他与医生沟通的方式。
【11题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段“Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already. (当然,人工智能不能替代医生。医生们表示,如果没有临床监督,误诊、误导性建议或人为误解都是重大问题。尽管存在这些hazards,他们仍对人工智能在医疗保健领域的贡献持乐观态度,并相信其益处最终将超过危险,即使现在尚未完全显现。)”可知,hazards指代前文提到的误诊、误导性建议等危险或风险,与risks同义。

In a world filled with constant noise, the concept of silence holds remarkable benefits for both our mental and physical well-being.
Silence can have a calming effect on our minds. The absence of noise gives the brain more time to process information and therefore provides much-needed mental clearness. Reduced background noise can enhance focus and deepen our connection to our emotions and thoughts according to Psych Central article The hidden benefits of silence. There have been a variety of studies proving that silence can reduce stress levels. Silence achieves this by lowering cortisol (皮质醇) and adrenaline (肾上腺素), which encourages mindfulness, promotes self-awareness, and allows the brain to “reset” and gives a peaceful break from busy lives.
Physically, silence also plays a positive role. A 2013 study found that silence can increase the number of cells in the hippocampus (海马体) of the brain. Researchers studied mice and found that just two hours of silence a day contributed to cell development. Another study into the effects of music and silence conducted by the National Institutes of Health, which interspersed different musical styles with a period of two-minute silence, discovered that when this silence was introduced, the participants’ breathing frequency, heart rate, and blood pressure all decreased to below initial levels.
While silence has proven mental and physical benefits, it can also make a difference in conversation. Silence in conversation enables us to listen more attentively, giving others the opportunity to share what they need to. This not only makes us better conversational partners but also helps nurture relationships. It helps us to listen and respond in a calm and confident manner.
So, it’s time to turn down the noise and embrace some silent peace.
12. According to the passage, how does silence affect the brain?
A. It contributes to a clear state of mind.
B. It helps the brain to “reset” on a regular basis.
C. It reduces the number of cells in the hippocampus.
D. It makes for the production of cortisol and adrenaline.
13. What did the study by the National Institutes of Health find?
A. Participants’ physical signs returned to normal.
B. Silence led to a decrease in participants’ physical signs.
C. Silence kept participants’ breathing frequency on the rise.
D. Musical styles had little impact on participants’ physical signs.
14. What does the underlined word “interspersed” mean?
A. Separated. B. Compared. C. Removed. D. Mixed.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The negative impacts of noise on our lives.
B. How to find more silence in a noisy world.
C. The benefits of silence for our well-being.
D. The significance of combining silence and music.
A 13. B 14. D 15. C

通读全文,尤其是第一段“In a world filled with constant noise, the concept of silence holds remarkable benefits for both our mental and physical well-being. (在一个充满持续噪音的世界里,安静的概念对我们的身心健康都有显著的好处)”可知,全文围绕安静的益处展开,包括心理上有助于清晰思维、减压,生理上促进海马体细胞生长、降低生理指标,以及社交层面提升对话质量。因此,文章的核心观点是安静对身心健康的多重益处。故选C项。

I’m sorry to hear that you feel upset when learning Chinese. It is totally normal to have trouble memorizing Chinese characters and understanding idioms, so don’t lose heart. Many foreign learners share the same challenge at the beginning.
Here are some practical tips for you. First, you can learn characters by connecting them with their shapes, which makes memorization easier. Second, it is a good idea to learn idioms through short stories behind them, instead of memorizing them mechanically.

A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders.
