He thought for a moment and then nodded, saying, “Yes, I’d love to.” As they walked to the basketball court, Bill realized that this was the first time he had agreed to play with others in this new school. He felt a warmth spreading in his heart, which he had never experienced before. From that day on, changes silently took place within Bill. He no longer kept his head down all the time when walking in the hallway. Instead, he would smile at his classmates. He also became more active in class. When the teacher asked questions, he would raise his hand bravely, which was something he had never done before. What’s more, he made more friends. They would often play together during break time and study together after school. Bill knew that it was the Friendship Bench that had given him the courage to step out of his shell. Which club organizes community service activities? A. The English Drama Club. B. The Science and Technology Club. C. The Volunteer Club. D. The Art Club. B In our daily life, many people tend to shy away from difficulties, choosing the comfort of familiarity over the unknown. However, facing challenges can unlock unexpected growth and opportunities. For me, saying “yes” to new challenges has been a key to self-improvement, even when fear tried to hold me back. An example lies in my experience with learning the piano. At the age of 12, I was invited to join a school piano recital (独奏会). I had only played simple pieces and had never performed in front of an audience. My hands trembled (发抖) at the thought of sitting on that stage, but something inside me whispered, “What if I can?” So I took a deep breath and said “yes”. Practicing was far from easy. The piece I chose had complicated melodies (旋律). There were nights when I wanted to quit, frustrated by my mistakes. But each time I felt like giving up, I reminded myself why I’d said “yes” in the first place: not to be perfect, but to grow. Gradually, the music began to flow. On the day of the recital, though nervous, I played confidently. The applause (掌声) afterward wasn’t just for the performance — it was for the courage to try. Looking back, I realize that saying “no” would have kept me in a safe but unchanging and inactive place. By facing the challenge, I gained not only piano skills but also the belief that I could overcome fears. This experience taught me that challenges are not obstacles (障碍) but stepping stones. They push us beyond our limits and show strengths we never knew we had. In a world that often encourages staying within our comfort zones, dare to say “yes” to new adventures. Whether it’s learning a new skill, joining a competition, or helping someone in need, each “yes” is a chance to grow. Remember, growth begins at the end of your comfort zone. 24. Why was the author nervous about the piano recital? A. Her piano teacher was very strict. B. She didn’t like the piece she had to play. C. She had never performed in public before. D. She forgot the music during practice. 25. What did the author remind herself when she wanted to quit? A. She needed to be perfect for the recital. B. She said “yes” to grow, not to be perfect. C. Her family was expecting a great performance. D. The recital was too important to miss. 26. What does the author encourage readers to do? A. Try to learn some new skills: B. Face new challenges bravely. C. Take on difficult tasks. D. Help others in trouble. 27. What is the main idea of the text? A. Facing challenges leads to personal growth. B. Saying “no” to challenges helps us grow. C. People should face difficulties calmly. D. Playing the piano is easy with enough practice. C Bamboo is hailed as “Asia’s green gold” for being one of the most eco-friendly materials on Earth, with great benefits for the environment and human life. Its unique properties make it a popular choice for sustainable development across industries, from construction to daily necessities. Unlike many commercial crops, bamboo grows wild in most tropical and subtropical regions, requiring no human intervention to thrive. Bamboo’s growth rate is remarkable-some species grow 91 centimeters a day, reaching harvestable size in just 3-5 years, while hardwood trees take decades to mature for logging. It needs no pesticides, fertilizers or intensive irrigation, preserving soil structure and water resources drained by chemical farming otherwise. Its dense, fibrous root system spreads widely underground, preventing soil erosion on hillsides and riverbanks, while its leaves absorb far more carbon dioxide and release more oxygen than most trees, playing a critical role in fighting climate change and purifying the air. Beyond environmental benefits, bamboo is highly versatile. It can be processed into furniture, flooring, paper, clothing and durable building materials. Bamboo clothing is soft, breathable and biodegradable, a sustainable alternative to synthetic fabrics that release microplastics into waterways. Unlike plastic products that take centuries to decompose, bamboo products break down naturally within a few years, leaving no harmful residue. As global environmental awareness grows, demand for bamboo products rises sharply, protecting the planet and supporting local communities with stable jobs and economic stability. Its unique value makes it a core part of the world’s sustainable development plan for the next decade. 28. How long does it take for bamboo to reach harvestable size? A. A few months. B. 3-5 years. C. Decades. D. A single day. 29. What is a benefit of bamboo mentioned in the passage? A. It requires lots of pesticides. B. It grows slower than trees. C. It absorbs more carbon dioxide. D. It is non-biodegradable. 30. The underlined word “versatile” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________. A. easy to grow B. having many uses C. hard to break D. expensive to produce 31. What is the author’s attitude towards bamboo products? A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Critical. D. Doubtful. D For decades, the homework standard has been a “10-minute” rule, which suggests a daily maximum of 10 minutes of homework per grade level. But some schools have begun to give their youngest students a break. A Massachusetts elementary school has announced a no-homework pilot (试点的) program for the coming school year, extending the school day by two hours to provide more in-class instruction. “We really want kids to go home at 4 o’clock, tired,” Kelly Elementary School Principal Jackie Glasheen said. “We want them to enjoy their families. We want them to go to soccer practice or football practice.” New solutions to homework differ by community. These local debates aren’t easily understood by the fact that even education experts disagree about what’s best for kids. The most all-round research on homework so far comes from an analysis (分析) by Duke University professor Harris Cooper, who found evidence (证据) of a positive relationship between homework and student achievement, meaning students who did homework performed better in school. Cooper’s analysis focused on how homework influences test scores. The relationship was stronger for older students — in 7th through 12th grade — than for those in younger grades, for whom there was a weak relationship between homework and performance. Although there is the weak relationship between homework and performance for young children, Cooper argues that a small amount of homework is useful for all students. Second-graders should not be doing two hours of homework each night, he said, but they also shouldn’t be doing no homework. However, Cathy Vatterott, an education professor at the University Missouri-St. Louis, thinks there is not enough evidence that homework is helpful for students in elementary school, “Relationship is not a cause,” she said “Does homework cause achievement, or do high achievers do more homework?” Vatterott thinks there should be more stress on improving the quality of homework tasks, and she supports efforts to ban homework for younger kids. 32. He had curly brown hair and always kept his head down when walking in the hallway. Unlike other lively classmates, Bill was very shy. He was afraid of talking to strangers and could barely speak up even when the teacher asked him a question. Every break time, he would sit alone by the window, watching others play basketball or laugh loudly together, feeling like an outsider in the new school. One Monday morning, Bill noticed some bright blue benches installed on the playground. There was a heart-warming sign on them: “Friendship Bench — Sit here if you want a friend.” Curious, he visited the school website and learnt that the school put the bench to help lonely students make friends. He also found out how the bench worked: “When you sit on the bench, say yes to the first one who invites you to play and talk. If you see someone sitting on the bench, invite them to play and talk.” Bill nodded silently, but he didn’t dare to try it. The thought of sitting there and waiting for others to notice him made his heart race. Days passed, and Bill still stayed alone. One Friday afternoon, during the last break before school ended, he was hanging round on the playground, his eyes falling on the Friendship Bench. He noticed a girl who seldom talked in class sit on the bench. Almost immediately another girl went to say hi. They seemed to have a good time talking with each other. Longing for a friendship of his own, Bill finally found the courage to sit on a bench. Having butterflies in his stomach, he kept his head down and waited. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Just then, a boy showed up and said hi. ________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, changes silently took place within Bill. _________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
