18. What worried the speaker most last summer?
A. The dying of local trees. B. The record-breaking heat. C. The rising electricity bills.
19. What did the speaker start in the community?
A. A cost-saving project. B. A tree-planting campaign. C. A weather-watching group.
20. What is the purpose of the talk?
A. To share a personal story.
B. To introduce a community event.
C. To raise environmental awareness.
A 19. B 20. C
W: Good evening, everyone. Welcome to our weekly environmental corner. Today I want to talk about something we all experience but rarely connect to the bigger picture. Weather. Last summer, I recorded the highest temperatures in thirty years. July alone broke seven daily records. I was shocked to see my electricity bills double. I was using air conditioning almost twenty four hours a day. But what worried me most was noticing how many of our local trees had dried up and died. So I started a small campaign in my community, encouraging people to plant shade trees around their homes. I’m not saying we can change the climate overnight — if only it were that simple. But every tree we plant today will cool our streets tomorrow. So here’s my suggestion: this weekend, buy a young tree, and plant it in your yard. You’ll not only save on cooling costs, but you’ll also leave a greener city for your children. Thank you for listening.

A
China’s meat consumption has increased rapidly and diversified (多样化) in the last 60 years. The chart below shows the amount of meat available for consumption in different periods.
Go back to China in the 1960s, and you’ll find that the average person ate very little meat. This isn’t surprising—almost the whole country lived in great poverty at that time while it has always been a fact that meat consumption is closely connected with and mostly depends on income: as countries get richer, they are more likely to have meat-heavier diets.
However, as the chart shows, meat supply per person has increased significantly over the last sixty years. In 1962, annual consumption was just 4 kilograms per person. By 2022, it had increased almost 18-fold to 70 kilograms.
It’s not only the amount of meat consumed that’s changed. In the 1960s and 1980s, almost all meat came from pork. Today, pork is still the biggest share, but is joined by more poultry and beef.
This change in diet matters for various reasons. More diversified diets, which are not only about animal products, tend to be more nutritious than monotonous staple-heavy (单一的,以主食为主的) diets that are common for people living in poverty. But this increase in meat consumption also comes with a large environmental impact and consequences for the good of animals.
21. How much did pork consumption per person increase from 1982 to 2022?
A. 55 kg. B. 39.9kg. C. 27.3kg. D. 12.6kg.
22. Why did the average person in China eat little meat during the 1960s?
A. Meat was unaffordable for most people.
B. There was a serious shortage of meat production.
C. People preferred to eat other foods rather than meat.
D. The government limited people’s meat consumption.
23. Which of the following matches people’s present diet?
A. It’s more environment-friendly than before.
B. People enjoy a more diverse mix nowadays.
C. It places especially heavy emphasis on fat intake.
D. Poultry and beef become the main meat supply.
C 22. A 23. B
根据第二段“Go back to China in the 1960s, and you’ll find that the average person ate very little meat. This isn’t surprising—almost the whole country lived in great poverty at that time while it has always been a fact that meat consumption is closely connected with and mostly depends on income: as countries get richer, they are more likely to have meat-heavier diets.( 回到20世纪60年代的中国,你会发现一般人很少吃肉。这并不奇怪——当时几乎整个国家都生活在极度贫困中,而肉类消费与收入密切相关并主要取决于收入,这一直是一个事实:随着国家变得富裕,他们更有可能有更多的肉类饮食。)”可推知,在20世纪60年代,中国人一般很少吃肉是因为对大多数人来说,肉是买不起的。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段中“In the 1960s and 1980s, almost all meat came from pork. Today, pork is still the biggest share, but is joined by more poultry and beef.( 在20世纪60年代和80年代,几乎所有的肉都来自猪肉。今天,猪肉仍然是最大的份额,但更多的家禽和牛肉加入。)”以及最后一段中“This change in diet matters for various reasons. More diversified diets, which are not only about animal products, tend to be more nutritious than monotonous staple-heavy diets that are common for people living in poverty.(这种饮食习惯的改变有多种原因。更多样化的饮食,不仅仅是关于动物产品,往往比生活在贫困中的人们常见的单调的主食重的饮食更有营养。)”可知,现在人们喜欢更多样化的饮食组合。故选B项。
B
For hundreds of years, my town has been having a commemoration (纪念) day to honor late heroes making a big difference in our town. The event has always been organized by a team of volunteers until they age and pass the task onto the next generation.
We always close our ceremony by reading the names of the late heroes over a soft drumming (击鼓). As the years passed and memories faded, the names of the dead were becoming a blur (模糊的记忆) and in some cases meaningless. More townspeople had difficulty appreciating the significance of the day and fewer were willing to join the team to continue the tradition, there being one volunteer taking charge for a twenty-year period. Attendance was suffering as well. Eventually, the celebration had become boring and uninspired.
Our senior volunteers were worried that if townspeople continued to lose sight of heroes’ contribution, our commemoration day would evolve into something unrecognizable. Something needed to be done. Specially selected volunteers were sought to help ease the team’s burden. It was an honor for me to be asked to assist.
I volunteered to give a speech for the coming commemoration day. The focus of my planned speech would be to change the reading of the names and honorable title of our late heroes from something routine into something that would make it clear that these were genuine heroes who once walked among us. I tried contacting their family members, distant relatives, and old friends. Amazed, everyone was so thrilled to share so many fond stories and old photos of their loved ones that I felt as if I knew each hero personally.
I integrated all those into my speech, which turned out well received, acting as the catalyst (催化剂) that got our commemoration day observance back on track. Townspeople, once reminded, were happy to dive in and show their respect.
24. Why was the commemoration day becoming less popular in the town?
A. The number of late heroes there was decreasing.
B. The volunteers of the event were not well organized.
C. Drumming made the atmosphere too sad for the public.
D. People were gradually forgetting the meaning behind it.
25. What specific change did the author make to the ceremony?
A. He replaced reading names with drumming. B. He made it to bring the heroes’ names to life.
C. He organized a new team of young volunteers. D. He invited family members to read the names.
26. How did townspeople respond to commemoration day after the speech?
A. They became more involved. B. They lost interest in the event.
C. They preferred to be new heroes. D. They provided financial support.
27. What can be the best title for the text?
A. The Story of a Town’s Holiday B. The Life Stories of Late Heroes
C. A Speech That Saved a Tradition D. Honoring Heroes: A Fading Faith
D 25. B 26. A 27. C

根据第二段“As the years passed and memories faded, the names of the dead were becoming a blur (模糊的记忆) and in some cases meaningless.(随着时间的流逝,记忆逐渐模糊,一些逝者的姓名甚至变得模糊不清,有些甚至已经失去了意义)”可知,这个纪念日在该镇的受欢迎程度逐渐下降是因为人们逐渐淡忘了其背后的含义。
根据第四段“The focus of my planned speech would be to change the reading of the names and honorable title of our late heroes from something routine into something that would make it clear that these were genuine heroes who once walked among us.(我计划演讲的重点在于改变对我们已故英雄的名字和尊称的表述方式,将其从一种常规的表述转变为一种更能凸显出他们是真正英雄、曾与我们共处一地的表述方式)”可知,作者成功地让这些英雄的形象鲜活了起来。
故选A。
根据第一段“For hundreds of years, my town has been having a commemoration (纪念) day to honor late heroes making a big difference in our town. The event has always been organized by a team of volunteers until they age and pass the task onto the next generation.(数百年来,我们这个小镇一直会举行一个纪念日活动,以纪念那些对我们的小镇产生重大影响的已故英雄。这项活动一直由一群志愿者组织举办,直到他们年老力衰,将任务交由下一代接手)”和最后一段“I integrated all those into my speech, which turned out well received, acting as the catalyst ( 催化剂 ) that got our commemoration day observance back on track. Townspeople, once reminded, were happy to dive in and show their respect.(我将所有这些都融入了我的演讲中,演讲反响良好,起到了催化剂的作用,使我们的纪念日活动重回正轨。镇上的居民们在被提醒之后,都非常乐意参与进来,表达自己的敬意)”并结合文章可知,小镇纪念英雄的传统日因人们淡忘其意义渐失人气,作者受邀助力,通过收集英雄事迹并融入演讲让仪式鲜活,成功唤起镇民敬意,让这一传统重回正轨。可知,C选项“一场拯救了一项传统的演讲”最符合文章标题。故选C。

AI fakery (伪造) is quickly becoming one of the biggest problems confronting us online. Deceptive pictures, videos and audio are increasing as a result of the rise and misuse of generative artificial intelligence tools.
With AI deepfakes cropping up almost every day, it’s getting harder to tell what’s real from what’s not. Video and image generators like DALL-E, make it easy for people without any technical skills to create deepfakes — just type a request and the system spits it out.
These fake images might seem harmless. But they can be used to carry out fraud and identity theft. Here is how to avoid being cheated by deepfakes.
Face-swapping is one of the most common deepfake methods. Experts advise looking closely at the edges of the face. Does the facial skin tone match the rest of the head or the body? Are the edges of the face sharp enough? If you suspect video of a person speaking has been doctored, look at their mouth. Do their lip movements match the audio perfectly?
Sometimes the context matters. Take a beat to consider whether what you’re seeing is reasonable. The Poynter journalism website advises that if you see a public figure doing something that seems “exaggerated, unrealistic or not in character”, it could be a deepfake.
Another approach is to use AI to fight AI. Microsoft has developed an authenticator tool that can analyze photos or videos to give a confidence score on whether it’s been manipulated (操控). Chipmaker Intel’s Fake Catcher uses algorithms (算法) to analyze an image’s pixels (像素) to determine if it’s real or fake.
All this being said, artificial intelligence has been advancing with breakneck speed and AI models are being trained on Internet data to produce increasingly higher-quality content with fewer flaws. That means there’s no guarantee that this advice will still be valid even a year from now.
Experts say it might even be dangerous to put the burden on ordinary people to become digital Sherlocks because it could give them a false sense of confidence as it becomes increasingly difficult, even for trained eyes, to spot deepfakes.
28. What is the concern regarding AI fakery?
A. The decline in artistic creativity. B. The difficulty in identifying truth.
C. The ease of technical skill acquisition. D. The rise in AI-generated entertainment.
29. Which image is likely generated by AI deepfake technology?
A. An image with consistent skin tones. B. An image with proper public figure action.
C. An image with unclear edges around the face. D. An image with perfect lip movement with audio.
30. Which of the following is the method for an AI tool to detect fake media?
A. Training AI models on Internet data. B. Applying machine learning algorithms.
C. Evaluating the likelihood of media manipulation. D. Producing higher-quality content with fewer flaws.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the public’s ability to detect deepfakes?
A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic. C. Neutral. D. Dismissive.
B 29. C 30. C 31. B
根据文章第二段“With AI deepfakes cropping up almost every day, it’s getting harder to tell what’s real from what’s not. Video and image generators like DALL-E, make it easy for people without any technical skills to create deepfakes—just type a request and the system spits it out.(随着人工智能换脸技术几乎每天都在出现,辨别真假变得越来越困难。像DALL-E这样的视频和图像生成器,让没有任何技术技能的人也能轻松制作出换脸内容——只需输入一个指令,系统就能生成相应内容。)”可知,随着人工智能换脸技术几乎每天都在出现,辨别真假变得越来越困难。像DALL-E这样的视频和图像生成器让没有技术技能的人也能轻松制作换脸内容。也就是说,对于人工智能造假的担忧是辨别真相的困难。故选B。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Face-swapping is one of the most common deepfake methods. Experts advise looking closely at the edges of the face. Does the facial skin tone match the rest of the head or the body? Are the edges of the face sharp enough? If you suspect video of a person speaking has been doctored, look at their mouth. Do their lip movements match the audio perfectly? (换脸是最常见的人工智能换脸方法之一。专家建议仔细观察人脸的边缘。面部肤色与头部其他部分或身体的肤色匹配吗?人脸的边缘是否足够清晰?如果你怀疑一段某人说话的视频被篡改过,那就观察他们的嘴巴。他们的嘴唇动作与音频完全匹配吗?)”可以了解判断人工智能换脸技术生成图像的方法。依据文中“Are the edges of the face sharp enough?” C“An image with unclear edges around the face.( 一张人脸边缘不清晰的图像)”很可能是人工智能换脸技术生成的图像。
根据文章第六段“Another approach is to use AI to fight AI. Microsoft has developed an authenticator tool that can analyze photos or videos to give a confidence score on whether it’s been manipulated (操控). For as long as there have been gifts, we have naturally made choices based on the personality and tastes of the recipient (接受者). In fact, a recent online survey conducted by psychologists Lauren Human and Lara Aknin confirmed this tendency. However, what if we have been wrong all along and might actually benefit from turning things around?
Curious about this possibility, Human and Aknin wondered whether this common approach to giving gifts missed an important way we connect with others. So they sent 78 volunteers into a shopping centre before Mother’s Day. Half were told to buy a card that “reveals (揭示) your knowledge of the recipient” while the others set out to buy a card that “reveals your true self”. After buying the card, the givers who had thought partly of themselves reported feeling emotionally closer to their mothers than those who focused only on the recipient.
To find out how that approach went down with recipients, the psychologists did another test, asking more than 100 students to choose a song on iTunes for a friend, partner or family member. Each half of the group received the same instructions as the card buyers. Results revealed that recipients of songs that revealed something of the givers felt more connected than those who received purely recipient-focused gifts. This proved balanced gift-giving builds stronger relationships.
Human and Aknin suggest this finding might apply to all gifts. “If building stronger social connections is the underlying (潜在的) goal of a gift — and surely it should be — then we may well be advised to offer more self-expressive gifts.” In short, for a present to be truly meaningful, you need to give away a bit of yourself, even if there is a risk that the gift might not fully meet the recipient’s practical needs or tastes.
But a note of warning here: what the research does not examine is the potential risk in repeated, thoughtless giver-centered giving, which, according to Human and Aknin “could signal selfishness” — and nobody wants to reveal that about themselves.
32. What is learned from the Mother’s Day card test?
A. Many pick gifts with the recipient in mind. B. Many choose gifts based on their own tastes.
C. Gifts considering the giver benefit the giver. D. Gifts revealing the recipient affect the giver.
33. Why should we give gifts according to the text?
A. To make the giver’s life happier. B. To meet the recipient’s practical needs.
C. To show knowledge of the recipient. D. To establish stronger social connections.
34. How do the researchers view self-expression in gift-giving?
A. Positive. B. Neutral. C. Critical. D. Uncaring.
35. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To suggest better ways of gift giving. B. To show how gifts build relationships.
C. To stress the importance of gift knowledge. D. To discuss common gift-buying mistakes.
C 33. D 34. A 35. A

根据第四段中“If building stronger social connections is the underlying (潜在的) goal of a gift — and surely it should be — then we may well be advised to offer more self-expressive gifts. (如果建立更强的社会联系是礼物的潜在目标——而且它确实应该是——那么我们很可能会被建议提供更多表达自我的礼物)”可知,送礼物的潜在目标应该是建立更强的社会联系。故选D项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“Human and Aknin suggest this finding might apply to all gifts. (Human和Aknin认为这一发现可能适用于所有礼物。“如果建立更强的社会联系是礼物的潜在目标——而且它确实应该是——那么我们很可能会被建议提供更多表达自我的礼物。”简而言之,要让礼物真正有意义,你需要付出一点自我,即使这或许意味着礼物可能无法完全符合收礼人的实际需求或品味)”可知,研究人员认为送礼时自我表达可以建立更强的社会联系,使礼物更有意义,所以他们对自我表达持积极态度。故选A项。
通读全文,结合第一段中“However, what if we have been wrong all along and might actually benefit from turning things around? (然而,如果我们一直以来的做法都是错误的,而实际上从扭转局面中获益呢?)”和第四段中“Human and Aknin suggest this finding might apply to all gifts. “If building stronger social connections is the underlying (潜在的) goal of a gift — and surely it should be — then we may well be advised to offer more self-expressive gifts.” (Human和Aknin认为这一发现可能适用于所有礼物。“如果建立更强的社会联系是礼物的潜在目标——而且它确实应该是——那么我们很可能会被建议提供更多表达自我的礼物”)”可知,文章主要讨论了送礼时考虑自我表达可能比单纯考虑接受者更能增进双方关系,并引用了心理学家的实验结果来支持这一观点,所以文章目的是为读者提供更好的送礼方式建议。故选A项。

根据时间状语“in recent years”可知,句子使用现在完成时:have/has done。
“_______ we live, work, and communicate”为宾语从句,句中主谓结构完整,缺少方式状语,用“how”引导从句。

分析可知,“it”为形式主语,“_______ (develop) AI in a responsible and ethical way”为真正主语,用动词不定式表达,因此这里应是“to develop”。

Dear Jim,
I’ m sorry to hear that you are upset about your image. I could understand such kind of feeling as it once happened to me. Now, I’m writing to give you some advice to help you get rid of the trouble.
First of all, you should build up your self-confidence. Only when you are confident will you overcome the fear of your look. Second, you should keep it in mind that one’s beauty lies in his spirit other than appearance outside. What really matters is having a positive value. Last but not the least, you’d better make the most of your gifts so as to improve and make up for your weaknesses, which as a result will promote your self-confidence.
Hopefully, my advice will be of great benefit to you. Looking forward to your good news.
Yours,
Li Hua

It’s a great pity that I had not put forth the amount of effort required. I had spent too much time playing with my friends instead of improving myself. I had let down my teacher, who was the kindest, sweetest, and prettiest one I had ever known. She laughed often, and never threatened any of us, yet she was able to “read” the children, control the class, and teach effectively. Miss Pratt put a lot of herself into her work. Every day near the close of school, she would read to us, or even better, tell us stories about when she was a little girl. Most importantly, she made us feel that she cared about us and that we were important.
Because of a serious car accident when I was three and a half years old, I had a sear (伤疤) below my nose that was the result of a torn upper lip. Everything else had healed up without any after effects physically, but my emotions remained scarred. Meanwhile, having been called “Chief Running Nose” and “Scarface” by many children, my confidence had suffered. Although my parents and relatives referred to me as pretty, I did not see myself that way.
Focusing on my scar, I could not appreciate any redeeming features At the end of one school day, I remained in my classroom, waiting for the arrival of my mother, who was coming to take me to an appointment close to the school. Miss Pratt sat at her desk with a fellow teacher and chatted.
I glanced at the clock and realized it was time to get ready to leave. I put on my wool coat and hat. The teachers looked at my clothes and seemed to admire it. I was able to read their lips a little and my ears perked up to hear, “Who is she? She is really cute.” My teacher Miss Pratt answered, “I agree. Bernice is quite pretty.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
“Pretty” caught my attention since it was almost my favorite word.

About two months later, the final exam result was announced and I got the first place.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Pretty” caught my attention since it was almost my favorite word. At that moment, I felt myself surrounded with a lot of warmth and love. I knew teachers would never lie. It was Miss Pratt who brought a lot of confidence to me. From that moment on, I made the decision to be one of the top students in my class to improve myself. Whatever it took and no matter how much time I would spend, I would try my best to succeed.
About two months later, the final exam result was announced and I got the first place. The moment Miss Pratt finished the announcement, the whole class cheered and clapped for me. For the first time. I felt truly good about myself and 1knew I had been motivated by Miss Pratt’s praise. This might not have occurred if I had not heard those kind words. Thank you so much, Miss Pratt! What a great difference you have made! I am determined to be a caring teacher like you!

A
China’s meat consumption has increased rapidly and diversified (多样化) in the last 60 years.

C. Neutral. D. Dismissive.
D

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
“Pretty” caught my attention since it was almost my favorite word.
