In our exploration of literature this month,My Name is Miene stands out as an appealing comic essay
that has captured the hearts of many on social media. The fictional character,Miene,is a blind kitten who
finds herself in a risky situation after getting separated from her mother and hurting her paw,all while
being chased by a crow.Ultimately, she is rescued and finds a home with a caring family. The narrative
follows Miene's comedic yet poignant(令人心酸的)journey as she navigates the frightening world around
her, struggling against her fears and pain. Her perception of life, relying on her other senses instead of
sight, offers a heartwarming perspective that encourages readers to cheer for her.
One striking feature of this work is its substantial amount of text. The book is loaded with a
remarkable amount of written content, surprising for a comic essay, filled with hand-drawn letters that
create an extraordinary rhythm between the illustrations. The combination of text and visuals is so
impressive that readers often laugh out loud when recalling its funny moments, even after closing the
book.
Furthermore, the book includes notable literary references, providing insights into classic works and
figures. The rich narrative not only entertains but also evokes a profound appreciation for life and
existence.A particularly touching scene is when the lady of the house,Rina, decides to adopt Miene,
n,
extending her hand and saying,"I will give you my twenty years",which showcases the deep commitment
one needs to take on such responsibility.
Despite Rina's heartfelt intentions,Miene dashes around energetically, representing the spirit of
adventure and resilience. This portrayal resonates with anyone who has faced trials but still embraces life
bravely, making the reading experience both enjoyable and meaningful. There are numerous interesting
works that can make one lose track of time, and such a unique narrative is surely not to be missed.

Berlin's East Side Gallery attracts millions of visitors each year.Tourists crowd before vibrant murals
(painted after the Cold War,but few pause to consider what lies beneath the paint:an original
section of the Berlin Wall. The art has become the attraction;the history it covers has faded into
background. This pattern extends far beyond Berlin.Across the globe, old buildings fall for new
developments.The logic seems unarguable:cities must grow,economies must expand.But.what
disappears when we erase (the physical traces of our past?
Urban historian Dolores Hayden describes cities as "palimpsests"-manuscripts written upon
repeatedly, earlier versions never fully erased. In her study of Los Angeles, she documented how
development projects repeatedly tore down communities inhabited by Mexican-American and
African-American families, replacing them with freeways and squares:The new structures served
(高三英语第5页共12页)
economic ambitions, but they also erased material evidence that these communities ever existed."When
the buildings disappear,”Hayden writes,“so does the tangible(有形的)proof that these people lived here,
worked here,mattered here."
Some argue that memory can survive through photographs and documents. In fact, there is a
difference between knowing about a place and experiencing it.A photograph of an old church conveys its
appearance;walking through its doors conveys something else entirely-the height of the ceiling, the
echo of footsteps, the weight of silence. These are not details;they are the substance of embodied memory.
Research in environmental psychology suggests that physical spaces maintain collective identity.
When communities lose familiar landmarks, they lose reference points that connect individuals to shared
history. The result can be spatial disorientation-not merely not knowing where you are,but not knowing
who you are in relation to those who came before.
None of this argues against all development.Every generation inherits a city and passes one on.Some
walls are meant to fall.Others are meant to stand-physical spaces ground memory in ways that images
alone cannot, grounding us in a past that continues to shape who we are.
28.What is the function of paragraph 1?
A.To criticize the over-commercialization of historic sites.
B.To contrast historical significance with modern appeal.
C.To present a phenomenon and introduce the topic.
D.To explain why history is overlooked and underestimated.
29.What does the example of Los Angeles intend to illustrate?
A.The cost of urban development.
B.The role of economic ambitions.
C.The preservation of tangible proof.
D.The success of redevelopment projects.
30.What can be inferred about the communities losing landmarks?
A.They cherish shared history.
B.They maintain collective identity.
C.They prioritize growth over memory.
D.They face identity confusion.
31.What does the text convey?
A.History outweighs art in value.
B.Physical spaces hold irreplaceable memory.
C.Cities face a growth-or-history choice.
D.Photos preserve memory inadequately.

Have you ever been in mid-conversation with someone, when you look over and find them standing
in the same position as you or holding the same facial expression? It may seem like they have consciously
(有意识地)copied you,.but it is much more likely that it is the chameleon(变色龙)effect at play.
The chameleon effect is the unconscious imitation (of another person's gestures or behaviour
Just as a chameleon attempts to match any environment's colours, people acquire the behaviour of others
to bring them closer together and help make their interactions smooth.
The chameleon effect was confirmed in an experiment by psychologists John Bargh and Tanya
Chartrand in 1999.The first part of their experiment included 78 people, who each spoke with an
experimenter.During the test,Bargh and Chartrand studied whether participants would copy the actions of
someone they hadn't met before, like moving the foot and touching the face. The second part measured the
impact that copying someone has on the person being imitated.
In the first stage, participants increased their face touching by 20%and their foot movement by 50%
while in conversation about a photograph with the experimenter. The individuals weren't aware of what
they were being studied for,and the photograph was used to catch their attention to ensure unconscious
acts. The second stage involved half of the participants being copied, and then rating the likeability of the
experimenter. The results showed that those who were imitated scored the experimenter higher. It has
shown that when someone copies our behaviour,we develop more positive feelings about them. These
interactions could be a person unconsciously willing to be liked, and forming a moment of connection.
The main reasons behind humans'imitation are positive. However, when people carry this chameleon
effect to the extreme, they can lose their sense of self. Those who change their entire personalities in
different groups often go undetected. But more common signs of the chameleon effect are easier to notice.
Next time you are in a social gathering, take a look around and you might just see some chameleons for
yourself.
32.Why do people acquire others'behavior?
A.To match the environment's colour.
B.To attract others'attention.
C.To establish a connection with others.
D.To adapt to the surroundings
33.How did the experimenter guarantee participants'unconscious behaviors?
A.By directing their attention to a photo
B.By keeping an eye on their actions.
C.By telling them the purpose of the study
(高三英语第7页共12页)
D.By evaluating the impacts of imitation.
34.What conclusion can be drawn from the experiment?
A.People tend to like those who imitate their behavior.
8.Too much of the chameleon effect can be beneficial
C.People imitating others are not easy to be detected.
D.The copied movements help people to feel relaxed
35.Which of the following shows the chameleon effect according to the passage?
A.Students adopt teachers'accents for fun after class.
B.People change their habits to please others on purpose.
C.A comedian copies a celebrity vividly on stage.
D.A husband and his wife share similar behaviours over time.

The car turned onto the familiar road that led to Grandma's farm."Jude, this summer holiday will be
a great chance for you to stay with your grandma,"Dad said as he drove.Every moment,we were moving
farther away from the city, the place where I knew how to do things right.
The car engine wasn't off before Grandma hugged me.I slowly dragged myself out of the car."Jude,
you look unhappy. Why?"Grandma asked. She acted like nothing bad had happened last time.Could I ask
how much money her neighbor Mr.Jackson had lost because of my mistake? Was he still upset with me?
"I'm fine,"I answered."I'm just missing my computer camp.Computers are something I'm good at."
"That sounds disappointing."Grandma nodded.
I liked visiting the farm during breaks before I messed things up last summer.Grandma lived alone,
and Mr.Jackson was like family to her. Then one day I forgot to lock the gate and let the goats into his
flower beds.He lost almost all his roses for the farmers'market.
Now,back at the farm,I felt nervous.I was trying to hide in the room when I saw Mr.Jackson! He
was opening the door and calling Grandma."I need help!"he yelled to her."Just a second for the freshly

a wonderfully competent(有能力的)computer programmer..”I shook my head.“I am not competent..Iam
sorry I messed things up."He was surprised and comforted me,"It was an accident.Being competent
doesn't mean you never make mistakes."
I looked out of the window. There were piles of roses waiting to be sold."Jude, can you help us?We
