It is very common to feel confused when facing so many choices. Here are two suggestions for you. First, you’d better choose a club based on your own interests. If you love sports, the basketball club is a good choice. Second, don’t join too many clubs at once, or it will take up too much of your study time. I hope you can find a club you really enjoy! Yours, Li Hua 七、读后续写 Paragraph 1 Suddenly, Jim went ahead of Tim. The crowd cheered for him. Soon, it was clear that Jim was going to beat Tim. But, when they were just a few metres away from the finishing line, Tim surprisingly picked up speed and ran ahead of Jim and reached the finishing line. Tim surprised everyone with his brilliant performance. He proudly received the prize and the money. Paragraph 2 Jim’s mother came to Tim and praised him for his hard work. She said, “You deserve it for your devotion and effort!” “Thanks, Ms!” Tim replied with an open smile and walked happily with his prize. Jim hung his head in shame. His mother turned to him and said, “Look, Jim, talent without hard work is simply useless. That boy put efforts and got rewarded for his hard work. Hard work is the only way to success.” Now Jim understood the importance of hard work. This incident brought about a major change in his life. 录音稿 第一节 (Text 1) M: Would you like me to pick up some milk from the store? W: It’s not necessary. If you look at the front doorstep, you should find the milk that the milkman has already delivered. (Text 2) W: My cell phone is broken, but I don’t have much money for a replacement. M: You should check out CellMart. They often have sales. W: Do you know where it is located? M: In Green Lane. You pass it on your way to work every day. (Text 3) W: Have you got that suit back from the dry-cleaner’s yet? They said it would be ready yesterday. M: I told you I’d stop by for it and I did. (Text 4) M: Come take a look at this: the way the snow is diamond-bright under the moonlight! W: Wow! It almost makes you wish that winter would go on forever. (Text 5) W: Let me know once you decide on your trip. M: I sent you my flight information and everything. Didn’t you get it? W: No. When did you send it? (Text 6) W: I have some questions. Do we spend quite some time in the rainforest? M: Yes. Most of the trip, in fact. W: And how do we stay in touch with our family and friends? M: Well, you can bring your mobile phone, but normally we ask people to keep them switched off. Otherwise, there are constant incoming calls which interrupt everything. But every few days we make sure we’re somewhere you can email people. Of course, if there’s an emergency, we’ll arrange it so you can speak to your family. W: That’s good to hear. Thank you. (Text 7) M: Cassie, I’d like to go over a few things with you before your first day next week. You will be expected to arrive here on time, and you will leave at the end of your shift, as agreed. W: Will there be any need for me to do overtime? M: At some point, if we require you to stay for a couple more hours, you will get paid for them. W: OK. M: Also, once a month, usually on a Friday, we expect the staff in your department to attend a one-hour meeting to keep you up to speed with the latest developments in your field of work, but that will not be paid as overtime. (Text 8) W: Have you come up with any ideas for the next class environmental project? Everything I’ve thought of has already been done a thousand times! M: And the kids will be bored silly if we ask them to do another one on recycling or how the rainforests are a source of oxygen for the planet! W: But, I do believe that we should make them more aware of how much rubbish is produced by each household. M: How about we ask them to produce some kind of art from the rubbish they throw away? This might help. W: That’s not a bad idea! Quite a few of them would probably find it creative enough, and they would have fun! M: That’s settled then! I’ll go online to look up ways we can set it up, and perhaps you should talk to the headmaster and fill him in. (Text 9) W: What’s the best thing about running a restaurant? M: I think the best thing is making people happy. W: And the worst thing? M: The long hours. This week, for example, I’m cooking nearly every day. We usually close on Sundays and Mondays, but this Monday is a public holiday, when lots of people want to eat out, so we’re open. W: Do you get a lot of British customers? M: Yes, and we get people from other countries, too. W: And are the British customers and the Spanish customers very different? M: Yes, I think they are. The British always say that everything is lovely, even if they’ve only eaten half of it. The Spanish, on the other hand, tell you what they like and dislike. Actually, I think I prefer that honesty, because it helps us to know what people like. W: What kind of customers do you find difficult? M: I find it difficult to deal with customers who want me to cook something in a way that I don’t think is very good. (Text 10) M: Good morning, and welcome to Uxmal! This is one of the most popular Mayan historical sites in Mexico. Uxmal has several pyramids and other structures from the Late Classic period — that was AD 600 to AD 900. The first stop on our tour is this huge pyramid right behind me. It’s called the Magician’s Pyramid, and it’s unusual because it has rounded sides. Most pyramids have flat sides. We don’t really know the Mayan name for this pyramid, or for any of the structures here at Uxmal. But there is an old story that a magician built this pyramid in one night, which is why we call it the Magician’s Pyramid. We don’t know exactly how long it really took to build the pyramid, but what we do know is that it was built in five different stages, so really, it took hundreds of years to build. B The transition from middle school to high school is an exciting milestone, but it also comes with a fair share of challenges. Suddenly, the campus is bigger, the academic expectations are higher, and the social scene is entirely new. It’s common for freshmen to feel a bit overwhelmed during the first few weeks. However, with the right strategies, you can not only survive but thrive in your new environment. Master Your Schedule One of the biggest shocks for new high schoolers is the increased workload and the freedom that comes with it. Unlike middle school, where teachers often guided you step-by-step, high school demands self-discipline. You will have more free periods, but it’s a double-edged sword. If you don’t manage your time wisely, you’ll quickly fall behind. A practical tip is to treat your free periods as study halls. Use a digital calendar or a paper planner to map out your assignments, projects, and extracurricular activities. Prioritizing your tasks will save you from the panic of last-minute cramming. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone High school is the perfect time to discover new passions and build a new identity. Joining a club or a sports team is highly recommended. It’s not just about filling your college application; it’s about finding a community where you belong. However, don’t just stick to what you already know. If you were a basketball star in middle school, maybe try joining the debate club this time. Stepping out of your comfort zone might feel awkward initially, but it’s the fastest way to grow and meet diverse people. “I was terrified of public speaking,” admits Sarah, a sophomore. “But forcing myself to join the Model United Nations completely changed my high school experience. I found my voice.” Build a Support Network When the pressure of exams and social dynamics builds up, it’s vital to have people you can turn to. Your teachers are not just instructors: they are mentors who want to see you succeed. Don’t hesitate to visit them during office hours if you are confused about a lesson. More importantly, build a solid group of friends. These friendships are often forged in the crucible (严峻的考验) of shared academic struggles. Having a study buddy can make difficult subjects much more manageable, and having a friend to eat lunch with can turn a stressful day around. Embrace the Journey Finally, remember that perfection is not the goal. You will make mistakes, you might fail a test, and you will definitely face moments of self-doubt. The key is to view these setbacks as learning opportunities rather than defining failures. High school is a marathon, not a sprint. Give yourself grace, celebrate small wins, and enjoy the process of becoming who you are meant to be. 24. What does the author imply by saying “it’s a double-edged sword” in Paragraph 2? A. Free periods can be both a benefit and a risk. B. Students need to buy both digital and paper planners. C. High school teachers are less helpful than middle school ones. D. The increased workload is too heavy for freshmen to handle. 25. Why does the author mention Sarah’s experience in Paragraph 3? A. To show that public speaking is difficult for most students. B. To encourage students to try things outside their comfort zone. C. To prove that Model United Nations is the best club in high school. D. To explain why middle school basketball stars often quit sports. 26. What is the author’s suggestion for dealing with academic pressure? A. Avoid taking difficult subjects. B. Rely completely on your teachers. C. Seek support from teachers and peers. D. Study alone to improve concentration. 27. What is the main message of the passage? A. High school life is full of unavoidable failures. B. Academic success is the only goal of high school. C. Freshmen should adapt to high school with a positive mindset. D. Joining clubs is more important than getting good grades. C A British friend told me he couldn’t understand why Chinese people love eating sunflower seeds (嗑瓜子) as a snack so much. “I’ve met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth, I believe that’s from cracking the seeds,” he said. I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware. I realized that whenever I’m watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn’t like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so much just to get one small seed. When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go door-to-door on Chinese New Year’s Eve to check out what every family was making. I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking. Out in the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with fancy tablecloth, ready-made dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds. Some of the dishes were to be offered to our ancestors later, while others were for neighbors and children to eat before the evening feast. I must have learned how to crack sunflower seeds back then. I don’t think it’s right to criticize (批评) one’s choice in food or eating habits, no matter how strange they may seem. It’s not only in China. When I went abroad, I found people had all sorts of strange habits when it came to food. In Denmark, they put salted red fish on bread and eat it for dinner, no matter how much it ruins your breath. They think it’s delicious, and it’s connected to their certain culture. I think it’s a wonderful tradition. 28. Why cannot the British friend understand when he found Chinese love eating sunflower seeds? A. Because the seeds are too hard to crack. B. Because he thinks they are harmful to teeth. C. Because he doesn’t think the seeds are worth eating. D. Because he doesn’t think the seeds are good. 29. What does the writer prove by mentioning Chinese New Year? A. The families get together for it. B. Children can eat delicious food on that day. C. The traditions of celebrating it disappear. D. Eating sunflower seeds is related to it. 30. What’s the writer’s attitude to Denmark’s way of eating bread? A. Uncaring. B. Negative. C. Positive. D. Doubtful. 31. What idea does the writer want to express in this passage? A. Eating habits come from a certain culture. B. It is good to form healthy eating habits. C. Changing your eating habits will change your life. D. One kind of food doesn’t necessarily suit everyone. D Daily life has its satisfactions. The perfect reply to a friend’s text message. The first after-work drink. But do any really compare to the joy of going to sleep? Somehow we have pushed this pleasure to the back of the queue. A third of American adults report sleeping less than the recommended seven hours. For some, the problem is modern life: emails, to-do lists and screens. For other people, it’s the demands of work or family. Then there are those who can’t sleep when they try. Up to one in 10 adults could meet the criteria (标准) for insomnia (失眠). The mix of experiences has led us to take sleeping more scientifically. A century ago, we didn’t know that the brain’s electrical activity changes during sleep. Now there’s evidence that a lack of sleep is related to higher risk of depression, cancer, Alzheimer’s and obesity. Research published in the European Heart Journal recently reports that heart disease was lower among people who went to sleep between 10 pm and 11 pm, no matter how long they slept. Such research is all well and good. But after the rise of step counters, is sleep the next part of human experience that will become increasingly tracked, counted and compared? We sigh at LinkedIn users who claim to wake up at 5 am and learn Chinese. But what if people are too committed to a good sleep? Sleep researcher Matthew Walker once said, “I have a non-negotiable eight-hour sleep opportunity window.” But for me, making one’s sleep so inflexible just strikes me as rather coldly individualistic. Stressing ourselves out about a lack of sleep can aggravate the problem. In his book Overcoming Insomnia and Sleep Problems, Oxford professor Colin Espie writes about “orthosomnia”, where people’s attention is so focused on sleeping well that they become too anxious to do so. Colin Espie says we each have a sleep pattern that, like a shoe size, we figure out through trial and error. The research on bedtimes between 10 pm and 11 pm will cheer those who leave parties early and give up late-night football highlights, but it establishes no causal link. Genetically, some humans are larks (云雀) and some are owls. For an owl to try to fight their natural schedule, and sleep earlier, it wouldn’t necessarily help. Once we were urged to sleep when we were dead. Now the enlightened tell us to sleep or we will die. I don’t really believe any of this. A good night’s sleep is a great enjoyment. As far as possible, it should also remain a simple one. 32. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A. We pay too much attention to sleep hours B. Our ancestors always suffered from a lack of sleep. C. Our mental health is closely related to our brain activity D We now have a better understanding of the benefits of sleep. 33. What does the underlined word “aggravate” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Ease. B. Worsen. C. Prevent. D. Address. 34. Which of the following might Colin Espie agree with? A. We should respect everyone’s sleep pattern. B. An owl should try hard to go against their nature. C. It is necessary to compare different sleep patterns. D. We should change our sleep patterns when necessary. 35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To show the importance of sleep. B. To analyze the cause of insomnia. C. To persuade people to go to bed early. D. To reduce people’s anxiety about sleep. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Thinking about the past week, did any of you forget where you put your phone? Did you have a word stuck on the tip of your tongue? You couldn’t remember the name of the movie a friend suggested? What is going on here? Is your memory failing? It’s not. 36 Despite memory’s extraordinary, necessary and common presence in our lives, it is far from perfect. Our brains are not designed to remember people’s names, to remember to do something later or to catalogue everything we experience. 37 , Even in the smartest heads, memory is likely to be wrong. So what determines what we remember and what we forget? 38 Your memory is not a video camera recording a constant stream of every sight and sound you’re exposed to. You can only remember what you are concerned about. Accordingly, one major reason for forgetting what someone said or where you parked your car is lack of attention. The other has something to do with stimulus (刺激物). For example, the tip of the tongue is one of the most common experiences of memory failure. 39 Why does this happen? The tip of the tongue (欲言难吐) can happen when there’s only partial or weak activation (激活) of the nerve cells that connect to the word you’re looking for. So when you walk into a room and suddenly don’t know why you’re there, you’re not going crazy or getting Alzheimer’s disease, and your memory isn’t terrible. Go back to the room you were in before you landed in this one and imagine the clues that were there. 40 A. One necessary factor is attention. B. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. C. These imperfections are simply the factory settings. D. Our brains tend to remember what is meaningful and forget what isn’t. E. You’re trying to come up with a word, but you cannot find it in your memory. F. It will instantly deliver what you were completely confused about a moment ago. G. Memory is amazing and is essential for the functioning of almost everything we do. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) We moved there on my third birthday. My first 41 is our neighbor Arlene handing me strawberries from her garden through a hole in the chain-link fence. She and her husband, Bill, lived next door. One day, my parents asked Bill and Arlene whether they’d watch me 42 they were out on a date. This 43 well for everyone, so it became a somewhat monthly occurrence. Arlene and Bill didn’t have kids. They had a 44 room in their house, which became “my” room. I had a cabinet and boxes of toys and books in that room. Arlene and I would do crafts together. Bill taught me how to 45 the lawn tractor and eventually a car (stick and automatic). When I was about five, I had an idea. My parents were watching TV when I spit it out: “What if I adopt Bill and Arlene as my 46 ?” My parents said I could go over and ask them. I 47 on Bill and Arlene’s door, sat down in their living room, and said, “Will you guys be my grandparents?” They started crying and 48 accepted. Soon after, they printed out an adoption 49 , and it hung on their living room wall from then on. I remember being surprised that they took my 50 so seriously — not because I wasn’t serious but because I was just a kid. They could have 51 it off. Thinking of that moment still brings tears to my eyes. There is something truly magnificent about a child offering up her love and 52 being so excited to accept it. Every child in this world 53 enthusiastically responded love. Arlene passed away in 2013, two days before our adoption anniversary. Bill gave her eulogy (悼词). At the end, he said, “Arlene 54 her husband. Bill. And the greatest joy of her life, her granddaughter, Katie.” After the funeral, Bill gave me the ring he’d gifted to Arlene on their 25th wedding anniversary. It’s a simple gold band that I wear on my ring finger as a 55 of the kind of love I wish to put into this world. 41. A. thought B. impression C. memory D. communication 42. A. while B. though C. unless D. because 43. A. improved B. worked C. performed D. operated 44. A. private B. spare C. public D. smooth 45. A. drive B. build C. store D. select 46. All the children were very excited and were practicing for the big race. Jim, one of the fast runners of the school was confident that he would win so he was not doing anything at all. “You have to work hard to come first in the race, Jim. You are not practicing at all,” said Jim’s mother. “Mom, you know how fast I am! Then why should I waste my time running? Only I will win: no one else will win!” shouted Jim. “Jim, you may be right but talent without hard work is not good at all. This laziness of yours will cost you greatly,” his mother warned him. Jim just laughed and shrugged (耸肩) his shoulders. He was so confident that he would win the prize as no one else in his class was as fast as he was! Tim, a classmate of Jim was also taking part in the running race. He was not a fast runner. However, he was very hardworking and practiced till late night and had developed great endurance (耐力) and willpower (意志) to win the race. There were a few days left for the Sports Day but Jim did not practice at all. On the other hand, Tim practiced day and night. The Sports Day was almost coming but Jim was confident that no one could beat him and had not practiced at all. But Tim with his devotion and hard work had become a very fast runner. Finally, the Sports Day arrived. All the students crowded the ground to cheer their favorites. The signal was given to the players to begin the race. The coach blew the whistle (吹哨) and everyone began to run towards the finishing line. It was so exciting. Jim and Tim left all the racers far behind. Both of them were neck to neck. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1 Suddenly, Jim went ahead of Tim. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 Jim’s mother came to Tim and praised him for his hard work. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
