Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is written by Mark Twain and is seen as one of the great works of American fiction. Maikafer, flieg! is a novel written in German. The storyteller in this book is a 9-year old girl Christine who lives in Vienna (维也纳) at the end of World War Ⅱ. Alice in Wonderland is an English novel by Lewis Carroll, a math teacher at Oxford University. It details the story of a young girl who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world. The characters, structure, the crazy imagination, and the way the writer tells the story all make big differences to popular culture and literature.
Unlike other literature works for children at that time, the book doesn’t want to teach or educate kids. It shows that kids can read literature just for fun.

Although the main character in this book is a boy, it’s not a children’s book. The book calls people’s attention to different problems in London at that time, including the poor conditions in the workhouses, asking children to work and recruiting (招募) children as criminals.

At eleven the next night I bring one hundred thousand dollars to the police station and put them into Inspector Blunt’s hands. He takes the money and leaves, with a confident look in his eyes. The next hour passes slowly and when I hear his footsteps, I get up to meet him. His eyes are happy as he says, “We’ve made an agreement! Follow me!”
He picks up a candle and walks down into the ground floor of the building. A group of detectives are playing cards when we come into the room. It is dark and there is a very bad smell. I feel sick and want to go back. Suddenly Inspector Blunt falls over a large object, shouting, “Hurry for the police force! Here is your elephant!”
Someone carries me to the office above, where I come to my senses once again. Reporters arrive and detectives talk warmly.
Naturally the inspector is the hero and his happiness is complete. Many people cheer for him and say, “Look at him, the greatest man of the force. There isn’t anything that he can’t find.”
The happy detectives share the fifty thousand dollars. The inspector puts his share into his pocket and says, “Enjoy it, boys, you’ve gained it. And more than that, you’ve made the police force famous.”
Then a telegram (电报) arrives, which says:
MONROE, MICHIGAN, 10 P. M.
I follow the footprints a thousand miles through the woods and they get stronger and bigger every day. Don’t worry. I’ll soon have the elephant. I am sure.
DARLEY, Detective.
The inspector orders someone to send a telegram to Darley, telling him to come home and get his share of the reward.
The mystery of the stolen elephant is solved. The next day the newspapers are full of good words. But my elephant is lost forever. When he went into the dark, he was wounded with guns and died of hunger.
I spent one hundred thousand dollars on the “agreement”. And my detective cost was forty-two thousand dollars. I have no job or money. Now I am a ruined man. Anyway, I will admire the greatest detective in the world forever.

“The hound!” Holmes cried suddenly. “Come, Watson! Come!”
We ran quickly across the dark moor. A final, desperate scream broke the quiet, and then came a dull, heavy sound. The night fell deathly silent. Holmes pressed his hands to his forehead and stamped his feet in frustration.
“We are too late,” he said in a low voice, angrily.
Suddenly, we heard a low moan. A man was lying on the rocks. As we walked closer, we saw the dead body of Sir Henry Baskerville. He was wearing his brown tweed suit. “Oh no!” I cried out, feeling my blood run cold. Holmes knelt quickly beside the body, and then suddenly he began laughing. “A beard!” he said. “This isn’t Sir Henry—it’s Selden, the escaped prisoner!”
The truth hit me at once. Sir Henry had given his old clothes to Barrymore, who had secretly passed them to Selden. “The suit killed him,” Holmes said quietly. “Someone gave the hound Sir Henry’s scent—probably the stolen boot from the London hotel—and it hunted the wrong man.”
Suddenly, we saw someone walking towards us. It was Stapleton. Holmes whispered: “Don’t let him see your suspicions.”
“Dr Watson!” Stapleton asked, in surprise. “What brings you out here at this hour? I heard a strange noise and came to check on Sir Henry.” He saw the body and froze. “Is that him?”
“It’s Selden,” I said. “He’s dead.”
Stapleton tried to overcome his amazement and disappointment, “Terrible,” he murmured. “I feared the worst for Sir Henry.”
“Sir Henry is safe,” Holmes said coldly. Stapleton then recognized him and smiled nervously. “Mr Holmes! I didn’t know you were here. Can you solve the mystery of the Hound of the Baskervilles?”
Holmes shrugged. “We cannot solve every mystery. Anyway, I’ll return to London tomorrow.”
With that, we left for Baskerville Hall, leaving Stapleton to walk home alone. Poor Selden lay still on the rocks.

Do you sometimes feel too afraid to try new things? If you want to grow and get better, you need to take risks and challenge yourself. But your brain often tells you to stay safe. It might say, “Don’t bother trying something new.” Even when these thoughts aren’t reasonable, our anxiety (担心) can still win. Instead of thinking about the good things that could happen, we worry more about “What if something goes wrong?”
Avoiding all risks might seem smart, but it can make you feel unhappy. The problem is that we often make decisions based on feelings, not facts. We think, “The more scared I feel, the riskier it is.” But feelings aren’t always reasonable. If we knew how to think about risks clearly, we’d know which risks are worth taking. For example, trying a new hobby like painting might feel scary at first, but it could bring you joy and new skills.
Whether you’re afraid to change your job or too nervous to ask a friend for coffee, learning to take “good risks” can improve your life. Here are good ways to help.
Balance feelings with facts. Many times, we think fear means something risky. But that’s not true. For example, driving a car feels safe because we do it every day, but giving a speech in public might make your heart beat fast. Yet the fact shows that car accidents are much more common than getting hurt while speaking! So before you avoid doing something scary, take three deep breaths and ask yourself: “What’s the real risk here?”
Take steps to succeed. You can do many small things to lower risks. If you’re nervous about a test, make a study plan and review each day— this helps you feel more prepared. It’s okay to feel butterflies in your stomach when you try something new. Facing fear helps build your mental muscle, just like exercising builds physical muscle. So, taking smart risks helps you become mentally stronger. Each time you try something scary, you will learn to deal with uncertainty and anxiety. You’ll also get new skills and grow from mistakes. If you try out for a dance team and don’t make it, you can ask for the reason and then practice more. With practice, you’ll get better at facing risks, and your chances of success will rise.
13. Which of the following is TRUE according to the first two paragraphs?
A. Avoiding risks is a smart way to stay happy. B. Taking risks requires us to trust our feelings.
C. Our brain often tells us to face challenges bravely. D. Our feelings often influence us to make decisions.
14. Why are “driving a car” and “giving a speech” mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A. To show that our feelings about risk are often correct.
B. To prove that car accidents are more frightening than speeches.
C. To explain that we should compare our feelings with facts about risk.
D. To suggest that we should be prepared before we avoid doing something scary.
15. What is the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
16. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Taking smart risks can push us forward. B. Trying many small things can reduce risks.
C. Learning clearly about real risks can help a lot. D. Practicing more can help deal with risks better.

Paying attention to your study habits is important if you want to learn better. 17 When you stop to think about how you study, you can often find easier or smarter ways to learn. This is called reflective learning (反思性学习).
Reflection means thinking carefully about something to understand it better. It is not about being negative. 18
Reflective learning can help you in many ways. 19 With so many things like school, family, friends and hobbies, you can feel stressed. It helps you manage your time and choose what’s most important. It can also help you stop putting things off and feel less stressed. By thinking about when and why you avoid tasks, you can change those bad habits and feel more confident.
20 In it, you can write what happened, what you did, what you learned and what you could do better. Of course, everyone reflects in their own way. There’s no one right way to do it. You don’t have to see it as additional homework. You can practice reflection anytime while you’re learning.
Remember there are no wrong answers in reflection, so just be honest and keep learning all the time.
A. Good habits help you study more effectively.
B. To reflect well, you can keep a reflective diary.
C. First, it helps you plan and decide what to do first.
D. Reflective learning fits top students better than common ones.
E. It’s about questioning, choosing well, and learning from what you do.
在日记中记录反思内容的内容,符合上下文逻辑。

After a terrible storm, Robinson Crusoe woke up on a lonely island. His clothes were wet and broken, and his body ached. “I must stay alive,” He whispered. He swam to the broken ship and found tools, a gun, and some dry food. With wood from the ship, he built a small tent under a tall cliff. Every morning, he cut a mark on a wooden post to count the days. By the tenth mark, he named the place “Hope Camp”.
The island was full of wild goats and colorful birds. Robinson Crusoe hunted them with his gun and cooked meat over a fire. One day, he found corn seeds in a bag from the ship. He planted them near his tent. After weeks of waiting, tiny green plants grew! He danced around them happily. He also caught two baby goats and fed them grass. Soon, they gave Robinson Crusoe fresh milk. At night, he wrote in his diary: “Today I fixed my tent. Tomorrow I will explore the east beach.”
One sunny morning, Robinson Crusoe saw something strange on the sand—a human footprint! His heart beat fast. “Is someone watching me?” He hid in his tent for three days. Then, he built a strong fence around his home using sharp sticks and ropes.
Years later, he heard shouts near the shore. Some men were running after a young man! Robinson Crusoe shot his gun into the air to scare them. The man ran to Robinson. Robinson named him Friday because it was the day that Robinson saved his life. Friday helped Robinson fish with wooden spears and taught him to find sweet fruits. They built a boat by cutting down a tree and burning its center. Every day, Friday learned English words like “fire”, “friend”, and “home”.
One afternoon, smoke rose far out at sea. A ship! Robinson lit a big fire and waved his shirt. “HELP!” he shouted. After 28 years, Robinson Crusoe was going home!

【答案】5. D 6. A 7. D 8. C
5. 最后一段明确指出:“I spent one hundred thousand dollars on the ‘agreement’. And my detective cost was forty-two thousand dollars.”主人公在“协议”上花费了10万美元,侦探费用又花了4.2万美元。两者相加总共花费142,000美元。
6. 最后一段中“I have no job or money. Now I am a ruined man.”

D
