Peter is a Grade 8 student. Last week, he felt very sad. His parents were comparing him with their friends' children again, and the things they said did more harm than good. Peter felt like there was nothing he could do to make his parents feel proud of him.
One day, Peter went to see his teacher, Mrs Evans. “Can I talk to you?” he asked. He told her about his problem and how he felt.
Mrs Evans listened carefully. She said that, like all parents, Peter's parents wanted him to succeed and be happy. They probably believed that they were encouraging him by comparing him with others. Then she gave Peter some advice. “Try talking to your parents about the problem,” she said. “Tell them how you feel. Let them know your true thoughts. I think they will understand you.”
Peter decided to try. He talked to his parents that evening, and he felt much better after that.
1. Why did Peter feel sad last week?
2. What did Mrs Evans say about Peter's parents?
