第四部分 写作
第一节 应用文写作
One possible version:
Dear Peter,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the tech-driven future! While I agree that smart technologies like AI and smart homes bring convenience, I believe we must balance excitement with caution.
Obviously, innovations like MIT’s Future You system showcase how technology can inspire long-term planning, and smart homes facilitate daily life. However, risks like leaks of personal data as smart devices collect personal information and cybersecurity threats remind us to stay alert. Additionally, over-reliance on AI could weaken human abilities and creativity.
Ultimately, technology should serve, not control, humanity. We need strict regulations and careful usage to ensure safety and ethics.
What are your thoughts on this? Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写
“Of course!” The words escaped Charlotte before she even realized it. Her sudden reply made her parents surprised and hesitant for a moment. But Charlotte stepped into the kitchen firmly, bringing out the chicken dish. Her father stopped fixing the truck, glancing at the hiker, then back at Charlotte. Soon, he gave her an approving nod. When the food was handed over, the man looked stunned as if he hadn’t expected kindness from total strangers. Muttering repeated thanks in gratitude, he savored every bite as tasting precious treasure. Her mother watched silently, then continued to prepare their own meals, while her father showed him the right way out. That night, their bellies were empty yet their hearts overflew with gentle warmth.
Days later, the hiker returned with a big bag. Charlotte was outside sweeping with parents when she saw him waving from the road and walking up. The hiker carried the bag with both hands, saying that he would like to offer something in return. There is the food, a tool kit, and even some snacks for Charlotte. Charlotte’s father grinned widely, expressing sincere gratitude. A decent dinner was made, laughter bubbling up and filling the small trailer again. That day, Charlotte grasped something profound — kindness, however tiny, will take root and flourish once shared, forging deeper bonds between people. Also, Hope never comes out of nowhere, but travels back down the same path it once left.

Text 10
No trip to Iceland is complete without a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon. Located about 50 km from the capital city of Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon is a popular destination for both locals and tourists to relax. As its name suggests, Iceland is a very cold country, but it is also rich in volcanoes. The Blue Lagoon, in fact, sits on an extinct volcano. (17) The hot liquid rock underground heats the waters in the Blue Lagoon, which are on average 37 °C to 39 °C. (18) The name comes from the color of the water, which is a result of the minerals (矿物质) in the water and its surrounding land. That is also why the bottom and the sides of the pools are white. Indeed, many people believe the soft white mud is good for the skin, and so people often apply it to their skin while bathing. (19) There are a few rules you need to follow while visiting the Blue Lagoon. You need to shower before going into the pools. Children under the age of two are not allowed in, and those under the age of eight must wear a life jacket. The pools have also been made suitable for wheelchair users to enjoy. (20)

I live in Xizhou in Yunnan Province, on the historic Tea Horse Road. I have to admit that when I first heard that Paul Salopek was going to walk the entire globe on his own two feet, I was blown away. I couldn’t imagine that there could be such an unusual person in the world.
Last May, I met Paul. He told me that it was his first time in China. He talked to me with great excitement about the history, migrations, and discoveries in my region of China. He spoke of the Shu-Yandu Dao (the Southern Silk Road), the travels of the 17th-century Chinese explorer Xu Xiake, the Tea Horse Road and the early 20th-century American botanist Joseph Rock. He also talked of Xuanzang. Paul considered many of them heroes and in a sense Chinese pioneers of slow journalism.
I decided to accompany Paul on his walk toward Yunnan. On September 28, 2021, we set out. Our days were simple: walk, eat, sleep, and repeat. We woke up at sunrise, set off in high spirits, and rested at sunset, dragging ourselves into exhausted sleep.
We met many people on the road. Some were curious, surrounding us and watching us; some gave us directions; some invited us into their home to take a rest; some spoke of the charm of their hometown. We met many beautiful souls, simple souls and warm souls. We were walking with our minds.
Together, we were impressed by the biodiversity of the Gaoligong Mountains. As I walked on ancient paths through mountains, I seemed to hear the antique voices of past travelers urging me to be careful on the road.
Looking back on the more than 200 miles I walked with Paul, I came to a realization. Walking for its own sake, while healthy and admirable, is only a small part of the benefit of moving with our feet. A deeper reward is rediscovering the world around us, shortening the distance between each other, and sharing each other’s cultures.
24. How did the writer first respond to Paul’s travel plan?
A. Scared. B. Puzzled. C. Disappointed. D. Surprised.
25. What can we learn about Paul Salopek from paragraph 2?
A. He was a western journalist. B. He had a knowledge of China.
C. He came to China several times. D. He was Joseph Rock’s acquaintance.
26. What does paragraph 4 tell us about the writer and Paul?
A. They honored the ancestors. B. They set off in high spirits.
C. They satisfied the locals’ curiosity. D. They built bonds with people.
27. What is the main purpose of the writer’s writing the text?
A. To share and reflect on a journey. B. To suggest a new way of travel.
C. To advocate protection of biodiversity. D. To introduce and promote Chinese culture.

Politicians often use humor to win public support, but scientists traditionally avoid jokes, worried that a light-hearted tone might reduce their authority (权威) and, consequently, the trustworthiness of their findings. A new study challenges this idea, showing that well-chosen humor can actually make scientists more likable and their research more trustworthy.
Led by Alexandra Lynn Frank from the University of Georgia, the research tested humor’s role in science communication through social media. The team created posts from a fictional (虚构的) scientist, Dr Jamie Devon, sharing cartoons about artificial intelligence (AI). These posts used three humor styles: playful comparisons (like giving robots human characteristics), mean jokes about technology, or a mix of both. Some posts had no humor as a comparison.
Over 2,200 participants viewed these posts in an online experiment. They rated how funny the content was, how much they liked the scientist, and how credible the information seemed. Results revealed that light, positive humor --- such as showing AI as a curious robot asking questions --- made the scientist feel more approachable and the research more reliable. However, mean or unfriendly jokes reduced trust in the scientist.
“Humor helps people connect with scientists,” Frank explained. “When we laugh, we’re more open to listening.” But she stressed that jokes must feel natural, adding, “If the audience doesn’t find it funny, it could backfire.” For example, playful cartoons worked better than making fun of tech failures.
The study advises scientists to avoid tough jokes targeting individuals. Instead, gentle humor that simplifies complex ideas --- like comparing climate change to the Earth having a “fever” --- can build interest and fight misinformation. While focused on AI, these tips apply to fields like health or environmental science.
In today’s fast-paced digital world, humor could help scientists stand out on social media. Funny posts may attract more viewers, make tough topics easier to understand, and build public trust. The key is balancing fun with facts: Light-hearted jokes don’t weaken authority but create friendly, memorable connections.
Frank’s team hopes their findings encourage scientists to experiment with humor. As one participant noted, “A scientist who jokes feels more human --- like someone I’d trust.”
28. What aspect of the research does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Its design. B. Its purpose. C. Its value. D. Its background.
29. What does the underlined word “backfire” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Be natural. B. Be effective.
C. Make people laugh. D. Have the opposite result.
30. According to the study, what kind of humor is recommended for scientists?
A. Jokes that target individuals.
B. Playful comparisons and gentle jokes.
C. Making fun of technology failures.
D. Using complex ideas to create humor.
31. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text?
A. To present a study on scientific humor.
B. To classify different styles of humor.
C. To suggest ways to attract online readers.
D. To warn against inappropriate humor.

Keeping food cold often comes with a hidden problem: Traditional ice melts, leaving pools of water that can make drinks watery, damage products, or even spread dangerous bacteria. Now, researchers at the University of California, Davis, have created jelly ice, a reusable and biodegradable (可生物降解的) alternative that cools like ice but never melts into liquid.
The new material is made of 90% water and can be shaped into various forms. It stays solid below freezing, softens at room temperature, and can be reused by simply washing and refreezing. “Compared to regular ice of the same shape and size, jelly ice has up to 80% of the cooling efficiency,” said Jiahan Zou, a study researcher, “We can reuse the material and maintain the heat absorbance across multiple cooling and warming cycles, an advantage that regular ice cannot offer.”
The project began when UC Davis food scientists noticed how much ice was used in fish-processing plants and how melted water could spread bacteria. Seeking a safer option for grocery seafood displays, the team turned to gelatin, a food-safe material whose protein structure can trap water even as it freezes and thaws (解冻).
After years of testing, the researchers perfected a simple, one-step process for making jelly ice. The material is made from natural components and can be biodegraded after use. It doesn’t contribute to microplastic pollution, even offering a side benefit of improving tomato plant growth when added to soil.
Beyond grocery stores, jelly ice could have wide applications. It could help preserve medical supplies during shipping, reduce waste in biotechnology, and provide reliable cooling options. It promises fresher food shipments without the mess of melting ice packs while also offering a sustainable alternative that reduces pollution risks and supports agriculture.
Although licenses for the technology have already been secured, jelly ice is not yet available for public purchase. It still requires market analysis, product design, and large-scale production testing. Inspired by its success, the team is now studying other natural polymers (聚合物), such as plant-based proteins, to see if similar innovations can be developed.
32. What is one advantage of jelly ice over traditional ice?
A. Fixed shape. B. Repeated use.
C. Saving water. D. Cooling efficiency.
33. What do we know about jelly ice?
A. It lengthens tomato growing cycles. B. It is completely composed of water.
C. It reduces the spread of bacteria. D. It shortens the freezing time.
34. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. The official approval is underway. B. Other natural polymers will be available.
C. Traditional ice will soon disappear. D. Jelly ice needs further development.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Cooling Material That Doesn’t Melt. B. A Cooling Alternative That We Can Order.
C. A Game-changer That Controls Bacteria. D. A Quick Fix That Cuts Biological Pollution.

Running Tips for beginners
Although running can seem challenging before you start, once you get going, and as you keep going, you will be rewarded. That could be improved health or new friends. 36 So, ready to begin your life as a runner? Read our running tips for beginners.
● 37
No matter what your running goal, you should find a plan that suits your personal needs. All good plans offer several weeks worth of workouts, which help you develop your running in a safe and enjoyable manner. You’ll also be surprised at how easily you can fit running into your daily life and how quickly running can become a habit.
● Find safe, traffic-free routes.
Before you start running, plan some local running routes that you can follow in various weather conditions at different times of the year — and which feel safe for you and are traffic-free wherever possible. 38 So you can see oncoming vehicles and react quickly.
● Run at a time that suits you.
The best time of day to run is the time that suits you and your lifestyle. Don’t try to force yourself to run at a time that you think might be best. Many people find it easier to run in the morning. 39 Find a time that works for you and try to stick to this as your regular running time.
● Control your pace.
How can you tell if you’re running at the right pace? If you could sing while running, speed up a little. But if you find yourself struggling for breath, you’re probably going too fast and you should slow down a little bit. A good rule of thumb is to run at an easy pace. 40
A. Follow a training plan.
B. Set your running goal.
C. Or, you’ll get much more.
D. But that doesn’t work for everyone.
E. Slow down your pace when running on hills.
F. If you do need to run on the road, make sure you run against the traffic.
G. That is, you could hold a conversation along the way, even just a sentence at a time.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At nine years old, Charlotte went through more than the usual amount of excitement and change for a girl. In the past few months, her stable life had been turned upside down when her father was laid off from his job. This brought about a series of events, including her parents losing their beautiful Victorian home and forcing their family into a fifteen-foot trailer (拖车) they had previously only used for weekend camping trips.
Life in the trailer was tough, yet it was filled with warmth. Though her family possessed little, their door was never closed to those who had even less. Never will she forget the first time they squeezed onto the tiny couch (长沙发) together, which doubled as her parents’ bed at night. One evening, as her mother was checking the last food they had, her voice trembled, “We don’t have enough food to last the week.” Hearing this, Charlotte was seized by a sense of sadness, like a huge stone settled in her heart.
Moments later, her mother rose to prepare the modest chicken dinner. Charlotte wandered outside where her dad was working on their broken-down truck. Just then, a middle-aged man with dirty clothes emerged from a winding path. Coming right up to them, the man whispered in hesitation with a mix of shame and hope, “I ... I am a hiker and have got lost. I’m hungry and wondering if you have any food to spare.”
Charlotte’s heart tightened, countless thoughts racing in her mind. They barely had enough for themselves. The chicken for dinner wouldn’t even fill three plates. “But the man seems to be in greater need of food than we do,” she thought to herself.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
