While sci-fi stories have long been popular, a new genre (流派) is on the rise: climate fiction, or cli-fi. First introduced by journalist Dan Bloom around 2007, cli-fi is a genre of novels with climate change as a major theme. According to Bookzee, sales for environmental‑themed fiction have continued to grow in recent years.
Instead of showing the end of the world, cli‑fi focuses on the change of the warming world a few years from now, instead of a faraway future. Writers explore how people deal with climate disasters. This allows readers to understand ecological problems in a more personal way. According to Bookzee, people are also using cli-fi to imagine how they would deal with climate-related challenges.
This rise follows the first half of 2026, which saw record‑breaking heatwaves and natural disasters such as the flood in Nepal. Greenpeace reported that 2015‑2025 have been the hottest 11 years on record, with more countries facing extreme weather.
The first 2026 World Risk Poll also showed that global awareness (全球意识) of the dangers of climate change has increased greatly. Three in four adults are personally worried about climate change, the highest ever recorded by the poll (调查). Four in 10 adults say climate change is a “very serious threat” to their country. This shows the growing anxiety that cli-fi taps into.
As climate change becomes more of a concern, this genre has become a way for readers to process their hopes and fears, reported Bookzee. These books can also serve as powerful reminders. Bloom noted, “Climate fiction cannot educate people in terms of science facts and statistics (数据).” Instead, he said, “through the emotions involved in reading a novel”, readers may feel more encouraged to do something about these problems.
1. What are cli-fi novels about?
2. When are cli-fi stories usually set?
3. According to Bookzee, what do readers imagine while reading cli-fi?
4. Why has cli-fi become popular, according to Paragraph 4?
5. In what ways do cli-fi novels help readers deal with climate change?
1. This rise follows the first half of 2026, which saw record‑breaking heatwaves and natural disasters such as the flood in Nepal.
该句为which引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是the first half of 2026;saw 此处是拟人用法,字面“见证”,翻译为“(某段时间)发生了……”;record-breaking adj.
2. Bloom noted, “Climate fiction cannot educate people in terms of science facts and statistics .” Instead, he said, “through the emotions involved in reading a novel”, readers may feel more encouraged to do something about these problems.
in terms of 固定短语:在……方面,依据;involved in reading a novel 过去分词作后置定语修饰emotions:阅读小说所带来的情感;feel encouraged to do 受到鼓舞去做某事

Alshaa’s New Scenic Circuit offers a journey through desert landscapes and Mongolian heritage. A vast land of deserts, grasslands and ancient traditions, Alshaa League in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (内蒙古自治区) is opening a new chapter in tourism. The region has recently introduced a 4,000 kilometer scenic circuit route, aiming to connect its three major regions and create a large-scale travel corridor (走廊) that combines adventure, culture and natural exploration.
The new route links Alshaa Left Banner, Alshaa Right Banner and Ejine Banner, three areas known for their unique landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Passage 2
Have you ever heard of “the giant panda of the water”? It’s the Yangtze finless porpoise (长江江豚), a national protected animal found only in the Yangtze River. It has a round body and looks much like a pig. It is very cute and as smart as a 3-to-5-year-old child. It can eat up to 10% of its body weight every day and can live for about 20 years.
Sadly, its population dropped from about 2,700 in the early 1990s to around 1,800 by 2006. The rising number of boats produces loud noise and river pollution, while overfishing makes it hard for the Yangtze finless porpoise to find enough food.
To solve this problem, the government has set up the river and lake chief system This prevents river pollution and cuts down harmful human activities. A special hotline, 12314, is also open for people to report environmental problems. Besides, a 10-year fishing ban (禁渔令) has been on since 2021 to stop fishing for money. It helps provide enough food for Yangtze finless porpoises.
Thanks to these efforts, the number of Yangtze finless porpoises rose from 1,012 in 2017 to 1,249 in 2022. Other important animals, such as the Chinese sturgeon (中华鲟), are also returning. From 2021 to 2024, scientists found 344 kinds of local fish in the Yangtze River, 36 more than the number found between 2017 and 2020.
16.What can we learn about the Yangtze finless porpoise from Paragraph 1?

Passage 3
Climate change has brought a serious warning to the living areas of the Siberian crane, increasing the need to better protect the birds and their migratory channels (迁徙通道), an expert said.
The Siberian crane breeds (繁殖) in northeast Siberia in Russia and flies to Poyang Lake for the winter in East China’s Jiangxi Province. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season in Poyang.
Qian Fawen, a research professor from the National Bird Banding Centre of China, said that Poyang’s water levels decide whether it is suitable for the birds to live there. However, climate change has made the levels change often. “In some years, the lake experiences floods; in others, it experiences droughts. Both of these situations create food shortages in the cranes’ living area,” he said.
The Siberian crane is listed as seriously endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. “We need to protect their living area, which is mainly wetland, so that we can protect them,” Qian said.
In the recently announced National Action Plan for the Protection of Bird Migration Channels (2021—2035),1,140 places in China were considered as important breeding grounds, wintering grounds and staying stops, including Poyang and the Yellow River wetland in Ningxia. The plan said that the government should watch and count the number of migratory birds and pay farmers for losses caused by the birds.
Since China joined the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1992, it has designated(指定)202,600 hectares of wetland as Wetlands of International Importance. They store and clean water, keep all kinds of living things, help store floods and prevent droughts. According to a plan announced by the central government in October, by 2025, China will have protected 55 percent of its wetlands.
After the Wetlands Protection Law, the nation’s first law to protect wetlands, was introduced on June 1, 2022, complete protection was strengthened. The law clearly explained what the government should do and introduced strict punishment for people who destroy wetland areas. It limits building at important national wetlands and it doesn’t allow harmful activities, including using them as farmlands, leaving wastewater everywhere, harvesting and fishing too much.
Key nature reserve management offices in China have reported more birds wintering in the nation’s wetlands, including some new rare kinds. ________

Passage 4
① Around Shanghai, Songlin Farm, a large pig farm, is showing the world that modern farming doesn’t have to harm the environment.
② In the past, animal waste from large farms often caused problems for water, air, and nearby land. However, this farm has found a greener way. It uses a special, “closed-loop (闭环)” system to turn pig waste into fertilizer (肥料) and green energy.
③ The key to the system is a process called anaerobic digestion The farm collects pig waste through pipes and sends it directly into special tanks without oxygen (O₂). There, the waste is broken down and produces biogas and biogas slurry Since the waste moves through pipes and tanks, it is less possible to pollute the ground or the air.
④ After that, the two products are used in different ways. The biogas is cleaned and turned into a kind of green gas. Part of it is sent into Shanghai’s city gas pipes. It is reported to be the first project of its kind in the city. The biogas slurry, on the other hand, becomes a natural fertilizer. It is used on about 867 hm² of nearby farmland and helps save around 2 million yuan in fertilizer costs each year.
⑤ The system also helps vegetables grow better. In the farm’s vegetable area, workers use biogas slurry on vegetables such as tomatoes and potatoes. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the biogas-cleaning process is also used as a fertilizer. According to the farm, this can increase vegetable production by about 20 percent.
⑥ In this way, the farm creates a circle of pig waste, biogas, fertilizer, and vegetables. Experts believe this model can be used in other places and may help cities move closer to zero-waste development. It shows that with the help of science, even waste can become part of a greener future.
25.Why does the writer list numbers in Paragraph 4?
A.To show the farm is very large and quite wealthy.
B.To suggest how difficult it is to use biogas slurry.
C.To make the benefits more believable and clearer.
D.To compare Songlin Farm with other special farms.
26.Which picture can best show the use of the “closed-loop” system?
A. B.
C. D.
27.Which of the following shows the use of this system?
A.Change animal waste into gas for heating. B.Use clean water to produce electric power.
C.Clean factory waste and pour it out safely. D.Plant more trees to improve air quality in cities.
28.What’s the writer’s main purpose of introducing the Songlin farm?
A.To explain how the biogas is made from pig waste.
B.To show a useful example for greener farming today.
C.To describe different methods used on modern farms.

Food shortage is a big problem in the world. Right now, there are more than 1 billion hungry people in the world. Can you imagine many children go to sleep with an empty stomach, and many even die of hunger each year?
What caused food shortage? First, there have been more disasters recently. This is bad for farmers and hurts their ability to grow food. Also, a growing population makes feeding everyone more difficult. Another big reason is food waste. Most people don’t realize how much food they throw away every day. Sometimes we cook too much, or we don’t use it before it goes bad. The average person throws away 50 kg of food every year. More than one third of all food produced worldwide goes to waste each year, according to the UN. That is 1.3 billion tons of good food being wasted.
If the wasted food was saved, it could feed lots of people. The food wasted in Europe could feed 200 million people, and the food wasted in Latin America could feed 300 million people.
So think twice next time you want to throw away extra food on your plate. By cutting down food waste, we could also help put food on the empty plate of some hungry children. It’s necessary for people to remember not to waste food. That’s why Oct. 16 is set up by the UN as World Food Day.
How to reduce food waste? Do not order too much at a restaurant. Only order as much as you can eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home. Don’t be too picky (挑剔) about food. Some food may not taste great, but your body needs it. Keep an eye on what food you have at home. Don’t buy food that is more than you can eat, especially vegetables and fruit.
Food shortage is a serious problem. Many children go to sleep hungry and even 29 every year. 30 are disasters, a growing population, and above all, food waste. World Food Day is set up by the UN 31 . What can we do? We should 32 at a restaurant, take leftovers home, not be too picky, and avoid buying too much food.
Passage 6
Yin Yuzhen is a great desert guardian in Inner Mongolia. For more than 40 years, she has fought against the cruel sand in the Mu Us Desert (毛乌素沙漠), turning large areas of desert into green forests.
When Yin Yuzhen first moved to the desert in the 1980s, she was shocked by the terrible environment. “One strong wind a year, from spring to winter,” she once said. Sand hit her face like knives, and the small house she lived in was often buried under sand at night. She decided to change her life by planting trees. In 1986, Yin sold her only sheep to buy 600 young trees. Day after day, she planted them with a simple steel stick, watered them carefully, and covered their roots with sand to keep them safe. But a big storm came soon, and most of the trees died. She cried, but she never gave up. She tried again and again, and slowly learned which trees could live in the desert. With years of hard work, nearly 70,000 mu of desert became lively woodland.
Her moving story reached Ronald Sakolsky, a foreign friend. In 1999, Ronald Sakolsky raised 5,000 dollars to support her tree-planting work. A year later, he came to visit Yin Yuzhen in the desert. The two made a warm green promise, “We will meet again in this forest and plant more trees together.”
Twenty-six years passed. The 5,000 dollars grew into over 50,000 trees, and the desert became a sea of green. In 2026, Yin Yuzhen posted a video online to look for her old friend. When they got in touch again, both of them were excited. They still hoped to keep their promise to plant more trees together.
33.How long has Yin Yuzhen been working to fight against the desert?
34.What does the underlined part “The two” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
35.Use a word to describe Ronald Sakolsky according to the passage.
36.What spirit can you learn from Yin Yuzhen? Please find out one example from the passage to support your idea.

Passage B
Unlike traditional sightseeing trips that focus on a single destination, the circuit encourages travelers to experience the region as a whole, from impressive desert scenery to centuries old customs.
One of the route’s biggest attractions is its connection with some of Alshaa’s most famous natural wonders. Visitors can travel through the Tengger Desert and the Badain Jaran Desert, explore deep canyons, admire the golden poplar forests (杨树林) of Ejine, and discover historic sites hidden across the vast landscape. The journey also includes space-related landmarks, reflecting the area’s role in China’s space exploration activities.
Beyond its natural beauty, the circuit highlights the cultural identity of the Mongolian communities in the region. Travelers can enjoy traditional performances, experience local festivals, watch wrestling (摔跤) competitions, and learn about handicrafts such as embroidery (刺绣) and carpet weaving. Food is also an important part of the experience, with local markets offering specialties including roasted lamb and camel milk products.
The route is designed to attract both domestic and international visitors, especially those interested in self driving tours, camping and outdoor adventures. During the launch period, a variety of activities, including off road events and cultural performances, were organized to showcase the region’s tourism potential.
For Alshaa, the new scenic circuit is more than just a travel route. It stands for an effort to transform its natural advantages and cultural resources into a sustainable tourism industry.
A.It looks like a panda. B.It is as smart as a baby under 3.
C.It can live as long as 30 years. D.It only lives in the Yangtze River.
17.How does the government save the Yangtze finless porpoise?
①It cuts down boats travelling on the Yangtze River.
②It has set up the river and lake chief system.
③It provides more local fish for porpoises to eat.
④It stops fishing for money with a fishing ban.

As she started, she found 2 slowly disappearing into the sand and she felt terrible. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean,” she said sadly.
At that moment, a voice said, “I can give you a 3 . If a breeze (微风) can go across the desert, so can you.” It was the voice of the desert. But 4 little river answered, “That’s because a breeze can fly, but I can’t.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are now. Let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze, 5 you can reach the ocean,” the desert said.
The river felt very 6 and said, “No! No! If so, I won’t be myself anymore.” She couldn’t accept the advice. “The breeze can carry the vapor across the desert. Later the vapor will fall down as rain. The rain will become a river again,” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature 7 the same.”
8 hearing these words, the little river went into the open arms of the breeze. She 9 found that the breeze carried her to the ocean

21.What can we learn from Paragraph 2 to Paragraph 4?
A.About 95 percent of the Siberian cranes spend their winter in Poyang Lake.

A.The problem the Siberian cranes face and the ways people protect wetlands.
B.The reason why the Siberian cranes migrate and the place they usually stay in.
C.The importance of protecting the Siberian cranes and the result it will lead to.
D.The loss of wetlands and the actions that have already been taken to help them.
24.What will the writer probably continue to write in “_________”?
A.People have done something to protect wetlands.
B.The number of the birds has increased in wetlands
C.Experts will go on to do other research on wetlands.
D.The government will make more laws to protect wetlands.
【答案】21—24 ACAB
根据文章第2段“About 95 percent of the birds spend the season in Poyang.”
22.根据文章第5段“the government should watch and count the number of migratory birds”和第7段“It limits building... and it doesn't allow harmful activities, including... fishing too much.”

D.To tell us that only large farms can help reduce pollution.
27.根据第二段中“It uses a special, ‘closed-loop (闭环)’ system to turn pig waste into fertilizer (肥料) and green energy.”和第四段中“The biogas is cleaned and turned into a kind of green gas.”
28.文章开头点明主旨“modern farming doesn’t have to harm the environment”,全文以松林农场为例,介绍了其闭环系统如何实现环保与高效,结尾也提到“Experts believe this model can be used in other places and may help cities move closer to zero-waste development.”,说明作者的写作目的是展示一个现代绿色农业的成功范例。
Passage 5
29.lose their lives 30.The main causes 31.to remind people to avoid waste 32.order a proper amount of food
第一段指出“many even die of hunger each year”,die of hunger可以转述为lose their lives。故填lose their lives。
30.第二段指出“What caused food shortage? First…Also…Another big reason…”,本段介绍粮食短缺的主要原因。故填The main causes。
31.第四段指出“It’s necessary for people to remember not to waste food. That’s why Oct.16 is set up by the UN as World Food Day.”,设立世界粮食日是为提醒人们不要浪费粮食。故填to remind people to avoid waste。
32.第五段指出“Do not order too much at a restaurant. Only order as much as you can eat.”,概括为在餐馆适量点餐。故填order a proper amount of food。
33.For more than 40 years. 34.Yin Yuzhen and Ronald Sakolsky. 35.Helpful. 36.
