When I first picked up a fountain pen (钢笔), I couldn’t understand why anyone would bother with such an outdated instrument. My grandfather’s eyes lit up like a child discovering a hidden treasure. To him, the act of writing wasn’t just about putting words on paper — it was a sacred practice. Writing was about carefully crafting thoughts and communicating them with precision (精准) and care. As a teenager in the digital age, I found the leaking ink and the scratchy nib (笔尖) more of an annoyance than anything else.
But my view began to change when I cleaned out his roof space last summer. While sorting through boxes, I came across a wooden box filled with letters --not just letters he had received, but drafts of his own. One letter, written to the local mayor about the closure of a neighborhood park, wasn’t just a list of complaints. Instead, he had captured the scene of elderly men playing chess in the shade, the distant sound of children laughing, and the general peaceful atmosphere of the area. The writing was both elegant and firm, urging the mayor to consider the value of community spaces.
It was then that I understood. My grandfather didn’t write simply to communicate information. His letters were a labor of love and respect, intended to give the reader the time and attention they deserved. He wasn’t writing for quick exchange, as I often did with my text messages, but for lasting impact.
I began using that old fountain pen again. At first, my hand seized up, and I found it frustrating to write at the pace my thoughts raced. But gradually, the slow ink flow forced me to slow down and think deeply about every word. Writing became more than just a task — it became a way of truly reflecting on my thoughts, my emotions, and my words.
24. How did the author initially find using a fountain pen?
A. Troublesome and messy. B. Exciting and creative.
C. Fascinating but pointless. D. Confusing but acceptable.
25. Why did the author change his attitude toward the fountain pen?
A. He found valuable birthday gifts.
B. He discovered his grandfather’s letters.
C. He realized the artistic beauty of writing.
D. He experienced playing chess with elders.
26. What’s the significance of “slow ink flow” to the author in the last paragraph?
A. A chance for reflection. B. A cure for loneliness.
C. A method of writing. D. A symbol of tradition.
27. What’s the most suitable title for this article?
A. The Art of Handwriting. B. The Letters of My Grandpa.
C. The Wisdom of a Fountain Pen. D. The Slow Pace of Modern Life.

Pinglu Canal: A New Lifeline for Southwest China
For many years, the areas in southwest China far from the sea have faced a difficult transportation problem. Although they are rich in resources, goods had to travel a very long way to reach global markets. However, this changed on September 16, 2026, when the Pinglu Canal officially opened. It creates a direct river-to-sea passage, connecting southwest China with the Beibu Gulf and turning the region from an “inland” area into a “coastal” one.
Located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the 134.2-kilometer waterway is a major national project. It costs 72.7 billion yuan to build and is designed for 5,000-tonne ships. By connecting the Xijiang River shipping network with the coastal Qinzhou Port, the canal makes the traditional shipping route shorter by over 560 kilometers. This is expected to save about 5.2 billion yuan in costs every year, which is great news for the trade of minerals, coal, and building materials.
Different from projects that only focus on making money, the Pinglu Canal pays close attention to protecting nature. To safeguard coastal life, workers moved over 9,570 mature mangrove (红树林) trees and planted 275,000 new ones, most of which survived well. They also built special passages for fish and a 240-meter overpass for wildlife. These measures help restore the migration (迁徙) routes for animals. Moreover, over 98% of the construction waste was recycled to improve the land.
Beyond environmental benefits, the canal is changing regional trade. As a key part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, it increases trade between China and ASEAN countries. It helps Chinese industrial products reach Southeast Asian markets faster and makes it easier to bring agricultural and mineral resources into southwest China. Experts predict the canal will handle around 150 million tonnes of cargo (货物) per year in the future.
Like the famous Panama and Suez Canals, the Pinglu Canal is changing shipping patterns, but it offers special regional value. It serves river-sea transport within a single region rather than connecting separate oceans. Its full economic potential will depend on further teamwork with existing ports, railways, and logistics (物流) networks.
28. What can we learn about the Pinglu Canal from Paragraph 2?
A. It was built mainly to improve the local environment.
B. It shortens the shipping distance by over 560 kilometers.
C. Its total investment was mostly used to buy large ships.
D. It directly connects local mines with Southeast Asian markets.
29. What does the underlined word “safeguard” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Assess. B. Show. C. Record. D. Protect.
30. Why does the author mention the Panama and Suez Canals?
A. To show the Pinglu Canal’s special regional value by comparison.
B. To prove they have greater economic value than the Pinglu Canal.
C. To explain how international canals change global geography.
D. To argue that regional canals will replace ocean-going ones.
31. Which statement would the author most probably agree with?
A. Profit-driven water projects should be completely forbidden.
B. The Pinglu Canal has already given full play to its economic potential.
C. Ecological protection is important while carrying out the canal project.
D. The amount of goods carried by the canal has reached 150 million tonnes already.
D
Most composers devote themselves to creating auditory music for audiences with normal hearing. However, 31-year-old Zhou Mo dedicates her entire artistic career to designing tactile ( 触觉的) music, an inclusive art form specially created for the deaf and hearing-impaired community. Instead of relying merely on traditional sound waves and musical tones, she creatively converts delicate musical melodies and rhythms into soft physical vibrations (振动), enabling people with hearing disabilities to perceive, understand and enjoy music through gentle skin touch rather than listening with ears.
Zhou received professional musical composition training during her university years. Her artistic path was completely transformed after she volunteered at a charity concert for deaf teenagers. On that occasion, she witnessed that deaf audiences could barely follow traditional music performances and were largely excluded from the charm of musical art. Deeply touched by this reality, she was determined to break this barrier and explore brand-new possibilities for inclusive art.
After continuous research and numerous trials, she learned that human skin can sense low-frequency vibrations. Based on this biological principle, she invented accurate vibration devices connected to musical instruments. These devices produce stable vibration patterns that precisely correspond to subtle changes of musical beats and tones.
To create a quiet and focused artistic experience, Zhou holds indoor tactile music performances. Audiences place their arms on professional vibration boards and feel the rising and falling of melodies through skin sensations. To make the art accessible, she simplifies complicated musical structures and avoids overly fast and chaotic rhythms, making vibration signals easy to recognize and understand.
Zhou is committed to breaking the long-standing public stereotype that music belongs only to hearing people. She never intends to replace traditional concerts. Instead, she builds a fair and equal artistic platform for the deaf group. For her, music is essentially a universal language beyond sound, and every individual, regardless of physical conditions, deserves equal rights to appreciate pure artistic beauty.
32. What is the feature of Zhou Mo’s tactile music?
A. It creates sounds with special instruments.
B. It produces fast and chaotic musical rhythms.
C. It replaces traditional auditory concerts completely.
D. It enables the deaf to feel music through vibrations.
33. What inspired Zhou Mo to invent vibration devices?
A. Her major study of human skin structure. B. The poor experience of deaf concert audiences.
C. Public demand for simple modern music. D. New rules for charitable music performances.
34. What does the text imply about Zhou Mo?
A. She holds a negative view on traditional music.
B. She profits greatly from inclusive performances.
C. She majors in biological science relevant to skin.
D. She adjusts her works for better audience experience.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. The development of modern musical devices.
B. How ordinary people appreciate classical music.
C. Tactile music — a new way to feel art beyond sound.
D. Equal rights in modern public art education.

Being disliked is an unavoidable part of life. And as sociable creatures, we tend to seek acceptance. So finding out someone doesn’t like you can make you feel deeply unsettled. 36
Admit and confirm your own feelings.
It’s important to accept your own feelings. “Realizing that fearing being disliked is normal — it’s just your natural response to the possibility of being left out — can help you feel less ashamed of it,” says Tina.
37
Often, the fear of being disliked comes from our own insecurities, like thinking we’re not good enough. Talking to a therapist can help you understand where these feelings come from and let them go. It also helps to challenge “all-or-nothing” thinking. Ask yourself: What’s the worst that could happen if someone doesn’t like me? Chances are, the fear is much bigger than the reality.
“Remember, others’ opinions are shaped by their own experiences and problems. It’s not always about you,” adds Tina.
Build your network.
“It also helps to take good care of yourself and find people who truly understand, accept, and love you,” says Ali. 38
Put yourself in others’ shoes.
Have you ever disliked someone just for small, unimportant reasons? If you have, you’ll find such dislike has nothing to do with their real value. 39
Focus on your own values.
Stick to your own values instead of others’ approval. When you stand by what you believe is right, you may be disliked by some people, but this just means you are being true to yourself.
Ultimately, overcoming the fear of being disliked starts with liking yourself. 40 With practice, you can embrace the freedom of being your real self.
A. Reshape your thinking.
B. Face your fear calmly.
C. The more people like you, the happier you will be in life.
D. Here are some tips on how to handle the fear of being disliked.
E. When you learn to value who you are, others’ opinions will no longer control your feelings.
F. Instead of worrying about being disliked, focus on building healthy relationships with others.
G. Similarly, if someone dislikes you, it’s often for small reasons — not because of who you are.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之成为一篇完整的短文。
Jack was always on his smartphone, scrolling through social media, playing games and chatting with friends. His mom, Mrs Turner, noticed that his grades had started to drop because he was spending too much time on his smartphone instead of focusing on his schoolwork. She had tried talking to him about it many times, but Jack didn’t listen. She knew she had to do something to help him, so one evening, she quietly took his smartphone and hid it in a drawer. She knew Jack would be upset, but she hoped it would help him get back on track with his studies.
The next morning, Jack rushed to find his smartphone but couldn’t find it anywhere. He searched his room, the kitchen, and even the living room, but it was gone. He felt depressed and angry. “Where is my smartphone?” he whispered. When he went downstairs for breakfast, his mom gave him a calm smile. “I think you might have misplaced it,” she said. Jack was puzzled but didn’t say anything. He left for school, feeling more upset than usual.
At school, Jack’s mind kept wandering to his smartphone. He couldn’t concentrate on his lessons, and he felt a little lost without it. During lunch, he found something unusual in his schoolbag. It was a small, handwritten card from his mom. It read, “Jack, I know it’s hard, but you’re capable of doing great things. Stay focused, work hard, and the results will follow. I believe in you.” Jack smiled to himself. He realized that his mom was only trying to help him, not punish him.
He realized that he had been wasting time, and without his smartphone, he could actually pay more attention to his schoolwork. He felt grateful for his mom’s action, even though it had upset him at first.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
After that, Jack began to feel more focused.

Music Matters at School
Good morning, everyone!
Music has a special place in our school life. After hours of study, a favorite song from the school radio can instantly lift our spirits. During exam weeks, a familiar melody can bring a little calm when stress builds up. Besides, music activities are a wonderful way to bring students closer. After all, music is a universal language that speaks to us all.
To make music more present on campus, I suggest setting up a lunchtime music corner in the dining hall, with students taking turns to play instruments. We could also hold lawn concerts, where students can enjoy live music and connect with one another. In this way, music can become a natural part of our everyday school life.
Thank you!
读后续写:
One possible version:
After that, Jack began to feel more focused. He realized his mom had hidden his smartphone for a reason. He spent the rest of the day paying more attention in class, taking notes, and even studying harder for his upcoming test. For the first time in weeks, he felt more in control of his time. When he got home, he thanked his mom for the encouragement and promised to use his smartphone less. He understood that balance was important, and he needed to put more effort into his schoolwork.
Over the next few weeks, Jack’s grades started to improve. He felt proud of the progress he had made, but he also realized something important. It wasn’t just the smartphone that had distracted him; it was his own lack of self-discipline. Jack learned to manage his time better, using his smartphone for relaxation but not letting it take over his life. He also kept his mom’s card in his desk as a reminder of her belief in him, knowing that he could achieve great things if he stayed focused and worked hard.

Today we need to choose a new director for the marketing department. There are two candidates for this position, amy common and sam steward. First, lets explore any qualifications for this position. On the positive side, SHE has excEllent communication skills and is experienced ed in running a marketing team. Additionally, he is really popular among the other employees. On the other side, amy is not receptive to new information or viewpoints, and she's not creative enough. Now let's turn to sam in the first place. Sam doesn't have much experience or good communication abilities compare to amy, but he seems to have much potential despite his lack of experience. He is very creative, and I can see that while working with him in the same team. He even attends a class on sunday these days to learn some marketing skills. I know it's hard to find the ideal person to handle this job on a short meeting. We will meet here again on next friday at nine o'clock. We must have a clear decision before sunday.
