Chemistry is one of the most important subjects for you Grade 9 students. Chemistry needs you to work hard. Now, let’s divide it into four easy parts for you.
Prepare for Chemistry.
Before a class or a test, it’s good to prepare. Learn to read and understand the periodic table (元素周期表), review your notes, and make sure you know the key chemical rules. It’s like packing your bag for a trip — you want to make sure you have everything you need.
Read Textbooks.
Textbooks are like your chemistry friends that are always there to help. They have lots of information and examples. When you read, take your time to understand each part. Underline important points, and if you need help, ask your teacher or a friend to explain.
Do Experiments in Labs.
Doing an experiment in a lab will help you understand better. When you do an experiment, you can see what happens when different things mix. You also get to practise some scientific ways. It can be even fun. But remember, safety always comes first, so always listen to your teacher.
Develop Good Study Habits.
Make a plan to study every day. Find a quiet place where you can focus. Also, try studying with friends — it’s more fun and you can help each other. Chemistry is all about exploring and having fun while you learn. So, get ready, stay safe, and enjoy your chemistry trip!
11. What is like your “chemistry friend” according to the text?
A. A plan. B. A lab. C. A textbook. D. A test.
12. Which is the most important while doing experiments according to Paragraph 4?
A. Results of experiments. B. Steps of experiments.
C. Safety of students. D. The chemistry textbook.
13. What can you do to form good study habits?
A. Study in a noisy place. B. Make a daily study plan.
C. Keep studying some days. D. Stay in labs often.
14. What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To describe a chemistry experiment. B. To tell some rules about chemistry classes.
C. To offer advice on learning chemistry. D. To tell some fun stories about chemistry.

It’s clear that the world will be quite different in the year 2045. But what changes might we see? It’s pretty likely that robots and AI technology will bring great changes to jobs. Also, self-driving and flying cars will come into our daily life, making our lives easier. Scientists have even bigger ideas in a video called To the Future.
Dr. Juraz believes we might be able to control things around us simply with our thoughts. “Imagine that you could use simple devices (设备) to connect to your mind and control things around you simply by thinking about it.” Juraz says. According to him, scientists are working on the technologies that can make this happen. They’ve made some progress already.
The future has more than just that. Steven says that we’ll be able to create very strong but light things. New materials (材料) will change the way we build everything from cars to spaceships. Imagine cars are safer, more energy-saving, and able to carry heavier things. Lighter spaceships could mean great cuts in the cost and make more exploration goals possible.
Panny believes that our relationship with machines will change. She says, “I think one day we can tell a machine what to do with just a button (按钮) or a few simple words.” For example, pilots have to follow many steps for a plane to take off. But in 2045, according to Panny, “Prepare for taking off,” and the computer will do the rest. Or maybe, we won’t even need pilots.
These are just a few of the many possible changes that 2045 might bring. It makes us wonder what other surprises the future holds. Will there be new forms of energy that change our lives?
15. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Using thoughts to control things around us.
B. Making simple devices work without electricity.
C. Controlling things around us with our hands.
D. Making robots help us do housework.
16. What does Steven think the future spaceship will be like?
A. Bigger. B. Safer. C. Cheaper. D. Heavier.
17. How does Panny explain her idea?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving an example.
C. By listing numbers. D. By making comparisons.
18. What will the writer probably write about after the last paragraph?
A. Many possible changes. B. New forms of energy.
C. New wonders in 2045. D. Planes without pilots.

Li Jiating is a middle school student from Tongxin County, Ningxia. She studies in Tongxin No.2 Middle School and has always been a helpful and hard-working girl in her daily life.
On a cold afternoon of December 6th 2025, the temperature was below zero. A 4-year-old little boy accidentally fell into an icy hole on the frozen Yuhai Lake. The icy water was really cold and the boy struggled (挣扎) helplessly. Most people dared not walk on the thin ice for fear of falling down.
At that moment, 13-year-old Li Jiating passed by. Without thinking twice, she told the crowd that she was light enough to move on the thin ice. She crawled (爬行) slowly on the ice with a tube to save the boy. Suddenly, the ice broke and she also fell into the freezing water. Luckily, workers and people nearby pulled them out quickly. After the rescue, Li Jiating left quietly with her wet clothes.
This special experience made her realize the risk of ice water rescue. She decided to design a new tool to help people in danger. With the help of her science teacher, she spent months improving her invention—a two-use rescue tool. It can work well both on icy surfaces and in open water, making winter rescue safer and easier.
Her bravery and creativity won high praise. In 2026, she won the first prize in the Nuremberg (纽伦堡) Invention Exhibition China Competition and was named one of the National Outstanding Teenagers of the New Era. The young girl lights up the world with kindness and creativity.

20. Why did Li Jiating invent the two-use rescue tool?
A. To take part in invention competitions.
B. To make herself famous in her school.
C. To help people get out of danger in water.
D. To finish her school science homework.
21. Please order the following events correctly.
①She invented the ice-water dual-purpose rescue tool.

①The Fields Medal (菲尔茨奖) is the top honor in mathematics, known as the “Nobel Prize for Math”. In 2026, at the International Congress of Mathematicians (国际数学家大会), Chinese mathematician Wang Hong won this award, becoming only the third female winner in its 90-year history. Together with Deng Yu, they made history as the first Chinese to win two Fields Medals at the same conference (会议).
②Wang Hong’s learning experience is unusual. She entered high school at 13 and entered Peking University at 16. She was known for solving the century-old 3D Kakeya conjecture (挂谷猜想), a difficult puzzle that confused global mathematicians for over a century.
③Wang Hong fell in love with math at an early age. She had many hobbies like reading and sports, but math was her favorite. She always finished all textbook exercises before the new term and practiced extra math problems in her free time. Later she studied further in France and the US, determined to put her heart fully into mathematical research.
④Wang Hong remained modest about her achievement. She said the honor belonged to her excellent teammates rather than only herself. With strong self-discipline (自律) like top athletes, she spent most time researching and even gave up keeping a dog for quiet study hours. At the same time, she balanced work and rest by playing table tennis to relax.
⑤Wang’s story is not only about mathematics. It is also about curiosity, courage and patience. A difficult problem does not always have an easy answer. Sometimes, people need to spend years asking questions, making mistakes and trying again. Wang’s success shows young people that it is important to follow what they are interested in and not be afraid of difficult questions.
23. What is special about Wang Hong and Deng Yu’s win?
A. They are the youngest winners in history.
B. They are the first Chinese to win two Fields Medals at the same conference.
C. They are the first Chinese to study at MIT.
D. They solved the same math problem.
24. What can we infer about Wang Hong from Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A. She only focused on math and had no other hobbies.
B. She cared little about rest and gave up all relaxing activities.
C. Her early hard work and self-discipline led to her success.
D. She got the award totally depending on her personal ability alone.
25. The underlined word “modest” in Paragraph 4 is closest to ________.
A. tired of long-time research B. very strict with teammates
C. not proud of one’s own success D. worried about future challenges
26. Which is the right structure (结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2, …)

In the past, most Chinese people rode bicycles or walked for short trips. China’s first bicycles appeared in the late 19th century, but they became popular much later. As time went by, buses and trains became common for longer trips. These changes allowed people to visit their families in other cities more easily.
Today, China’s high-speed trains are some of the fastest in the world. For example, travelling from Beijing to Shanghai now takes less than five hours, while it took ten hours in the past. The first high-speed train in China started running in 2008. By early 2026, China had built about 50,000 kilometres of high-speed train lines, connecting nearly all big cities in China.
In cities, undergrounds help people move around quickly. Thanks to China’s developments, more and more cities have built their own undergrounds. China’s first underground opened in Beijing in 1969, and by early 2026, more than 50 cities had built undergrounds. Shanghai’s undergrounds are the longest in the world, covering more than 900 kilometres.
In the countryside, many villages didn’t have good roads, but now with the government’s support, new roads reach many villages. Farmers can now send their local products to markets much faster. In mountain areas, it used to be difficult to travel around, but now workers have built roads through mountains and bridges over rivers.
All these changes make travelling easier and help make our country better. The government keeps improving roads and bridges so everyone can enjoy cheap and efficient transport.

【答案】15. A 16. C 17. B 18. B
