Five Tips to Improve Your Memory
Most of us know that our brains become smaller in size as we get older, but did you know that diet and lifestyle have an effect on how well our brains work?
Research shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins (蛋白质) improves memory. 46 Eating oily fish or dark chocolate(with over 70% cocoa) and taking Vitamin D3can also help make your memory stronger.
47 A 2011 study showed that regular exercise actually increased brain size. Another study found that exercise improved memory in some older people; surprisingly, it found that one single training period had the same effect on memory as daily, long exercise!
One study found that eight weeks of short regular meditation (冥想) improved memory. Other ways to relax can also improve our short-term memory. Try taking 5–10 minutes of your day to meditate or listen to music. 48
Experts say that age reduces our ability to learn, but sleep can help. 49 A 2019 study found that students learned things better before and after a short sleep!
50 Try to memorize information like phone numbers and addresses rather than putting the information in your phone. You could also learn a language or do brain training like crosswords.
A. Or even just take a shower!
B. It’s important to keep a healthy body.
C. The role of exercise is really important too.
D. To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.

The Super Power of YET!
In today’s world, many people want quick success, but real growth takes time and the right mindset. The mindset is how we think about our abilities. It plays a big role in our progress so it’s very important for us. There are two kinds of mindsets — a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. Carol Dweck from Stanford University studied these two mindsets:
She has found that having a growth mindset benefits our learning a lot.
Learning happens in four stages:
☆ Growth Zone: They achieve their goals and take on bigger ones.
☆ Learning Zone: They start getting new skills and confidence.
☆ Fear Zone: People feel unsure or afraid of making mistakes and often give up.
☆ Comfort Zone: Things feel easy, but no growth happens here.
One of her experiments is at Parkland Soccer Club. Her group teaches the players that mistakes are part of learning. If a player says, “I can’t do this”, that usually means he fears making mistakes. Then he is encouraged to say “I can’t do this, YET! But I can learn and improve. “Challenges are ▲ for growth. Let’s believe in ourselves, work hard, and keep improving.
