B Hua Mengli was born in 1995 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. In 2010, Hua’s father rented more than 13.3 hectares of land in a village. He used the land for conventional farming. However, a lack of innovation made it hard for him to run the farm. In the hope of saving her father’s farm, Hua in 2013 enrolled in Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry and majored in horticultural (园艺) technology. After her graduation in 2016, Hua and four like-minded friends joined her father’s farm. Almost immediately, they had to deal with poor sales. After visiting various markets, they realized they had to innovate their farming techniques. They spent the next 11 months transforming the farm into an ecological circular agriculture base. The transformation was a turning point; since then, the farm has generated an output value of 32 million yuan annually. As part of her farm management, Hua has focused on technological innovation and application. In 2018, some farmers’ strawberry seedlings died, which resulted in massive losses. Hua decided to identify the cause. She spent three months testing hundreds of formulas, until she found the right culture medium formula for strawberry seedlings. She helped the farmers avoid future losses, and she improved both strawberry yield and quality. Hua has not hesitated to share the technologies she has developed with other farmers. She organized a team to provide assistance and technical guidance to farmers. The team is composed of 49 young graduates, all of whom majored in agriculture. She has also provided technological training to more than 22,000 people, supported more than 700 farmers in growing crops and helped farmers increase their incomes by a combined 120 million yuan. When asked about her plans for the future, Hua says, “I am willing to put down roots in the countryside, and to work in the fields. Rural areas have great potential, and agriculture will thrive. I will lead farmers and more young people to advance rural revitalization (振兴).” 24. What can be learned about Hua’s father’s farm? A. It mainly grew strawberries. B. It improved after technical reform. C. It earned big profits at first. D. It got government financial support. 25. What was the purpose of Hua’s experiments on formulas? A. To solve a crop crisis. B. To develop new varieties. C. To expand small farms. D. To advertise farmers’ products. 26. What does Hua’s words in the last paragraph imply? A. She wants to adjust her business goals. B. She plans to live and work in cities. C. She holds faith in rural agriculture. D. She intends to increase crop output. 27. How does the author present Hua Mengli’s story in the passage? A. By showing different farming styles. B. By comparing her with other local farmers. C. By introducing past farming history. D. By describing problems and her solutions. C Given the astonishing potential of AI to transform our lives, we all need to take action to deal with our AI-powered future, and this is where AI by Design: A Plan for Living with Artificial Intelligence comes in. This absorbing new book by Catriona Campbell is a practical roadmap addressing the challenges posed by the forthcoming AI revolution(变革). In the wrong hands, such a book could prove as complicated to process as the computer code (代码) that powers AI but, thankfully, Campbell has more than two decades’ professional experience translating the heady into the understandable. She writes from the practical angle of a business person rather than as an academic, making for a guide which is highly accessible and informative and which, by the close, will make you feel almost as smart as AI. As we soon come to learn from AI by Design, AI is already super-smart and will become more capable moving from the current generation of "narrow-AI"to Artificial General Intelligence. From there, Campbell says, will come Artificial Dominant Intelligence. This is why Cambell has set out to raise awareness of AI and its future now---several decades before these developments are expected to take place. She says it is essential that we keep control of artificial intelligence, or risk being sidelined and perhaps even worse. Campbell's point is to wake up those responsible for AI---the technology companies and world leaders--- so they are on the same page as all the experts currently developing it. She explains we are at a "tipping point" in history and must act now to prevent an extinction-level event for humanity. We need to consider how we want our future with AI to pan out(成功,奏效). Such structured thinking, followed by global regulation, will enable us to achieve greatness rather than our downfall. AI will affect us all, and if you only read one book on the subject, this is it. 28. What does the phrase "In the wrong hands" in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. If read by someone poorly educated. B. If reviewed by someone ill-intentioned. C. If written by someone less competent. D. If translated by someone unacademic. 29. What is a feature of AI by Design according to the text? A. It is packed with complex codes. B. It adopts a down-to-earth writing style. C. It provides step-by-step instructions. D. It is intended for AI professionals. 30. What does Campbell urge people to do regarding AI development? A. Observe existing regulations on it. B. Reconsider expert opinions about it. C. Make joint efforts to keep it under control. D. Learn from prior experience to slow it down. 31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text? A. To recommend a book on AI. B. To give a brief account of AI history. C. To clarify the definition of AI. D. To honor an outstanding AI expert. D Exams are nerve-racking, especially for those already of an anxious character. It seems barely surprising that those who worry about taking tests do systematically worse than those who do not. What is, perhaps, surprising, according to research published recently in Psychological Science by Maria Theobald, is that it is not the pressure of the exam hall but the pressure of revision that causes the problem. Dr Theobald theorized that if anxiety was truly interfering with a student’s ability to transfer known information from brain to paper via pen, then those with high levels of it would perform worse in a real exam than in either a mock (模考) beforehand or during online practice sessions. Besides, she expected this performance-drop to correlate with levels of self-reported exam nerves. She therefore worked with 309 German medical students who were preparing for their final state exam, the most important that they take. This test consists of 230 questions split into three five-hour sessions over three days. All her volunteers sat a mock examination, clearly presented to them as such, 40 days before the real thing. To assess their levels of anxiety, they were asked, every day for 40 days in the run-up to the real exam and also on the day of that exam, to respond on a five-point scale to statements like, “I feel tense and nervous.” On the day of the mock they were similarly asked to rate statements like, “I worry whether I have studied enough.” What Dr Theobald found was not what she expected. Anxiety on the day of test did not predict exam performance at all. What did predict it was the level of knowledge a student displayed in the mock exam and the earlier digital-learning activities. Those who performed well in these also did well in the real thing, regardless of how anxious they were on the day. What actually hampered students, it turned out, were high levels of anxiety during the weeks before the exam took place. And this discovery is far-reaching, for it suggests that a change of approach to revision by the anxious might help improve their results. Dr Theobald notes that test-anxiety is at its worst when students have low expectations of success and simultaneously (同时地) know that passing the exam is exceedingly important. 32. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about? A. The theoretical basis. B. The research result. C. The testing assumption. D. The experimental process. 33. What can we infer from the research? A. Anxiety before the exam brings better exam performance. B. Anxiety before the exam restricts students’ ability in exams. C. Anxiety on the day of the test predicts the result of the exam. D. Anxiety on the day of the test intervenes in students’ ability in exams. 34. What is the author’s attitude toward Dr Theobald’s study? A. Favorable. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Dismissive. 35. What will the following paragraph probably talk about according to the passage? A. How to carry out revision plans scientifically. B. How to reduce test-anxiety when reviewing. C. How to get satisfying scores well in exams. D. How to ease study pressure before tests. 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Life is full of options, some unimportant, some significant. But sometimes it can be hard to make the proper choice. Many people ignore unseen barriers affecting their choices. 36 The first barrier: some of us just find it hard to make a choice. Alice Boyes, writing for Harvard Business Review, tells us this can be connected to seeking perfect results, where people attempt to find an ideal way to any problem and are unable to advance when they can’t find one. 37 However, as surprising as it may seem, this difficulty in deciding might actually help us make the correct ones. 38 Susan Krauss in Psychology Today reminds us that people often make bad decisions because they base them on fixed thoughts rather than the real situation. She highlights a paper by researcher Iris Schneider which finds that hesitant people are more likely to look at different viewpoints and use them to reach a nicer decision. The third barrier comes from our own intelligence. David Robson, speaking to the BBC’s Crowd Science, tells us that intelligence can sometimes prevent people from making the right decision. People sometimes use their intelligence to create reasonable explanations for unreasonable ideas. 39 Jeff Bezos supports this view. Tech CEO Jason Fried recalls the Amazon founder saying that the people who were right most of the time were those who frequently changed their minds. So, perhaps it is not hesitation but rather intelligence, combined with quick decision-making and fixed ideas, that actually prevents us from making good choices. 40 Being slow to decide, on the other hand, could help us select the best option. A. Another barrier comes from people’s fixed thinking patterns. B. So what exactly holds us back from making sound decisions? C. Intelligent people are less likely to make ill-advised decisions. D. He holds the view that modesty contributes to sound decisions. E. Making quick judgments is generally considered a smarter way. F. It appears that difficulty in choosing will stop us from wise decisions. G. All these studies make us rethink the value of hesitation in decision-making. 第三部分:语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节:(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Jason Joel’s life story is not just about running. The Jueying Chitu team, using a remote-controlled robot called “Lightning”, 59 (finish) with a net time of 48 minutes and 19 seconds, consistently running faster than 7 m/s. However, according to the competition rules, the 60 (result) of remote-controlled teams were multiplied (乘) by a weighting factor of 1.2 (1.2 的加权系数), giving them an adjusted time of about 57 minutes. As a result, 61 champion title went to the Qitian Dasheng team, which used an autonomous robot also 62 (name) “Lightning.” Their official finishing time was 50 minutes and 26 seconds. The rules also included time penalties (处罚): Battery replacement outside stations was allowed only in emergencies, with a 5-minute penalty for the first time and 10 minutes for the second. Replacing a robot led to even 63 (heavy) penalties. Interestingly, any autonomous team 64 (conduct) unauthorized human intervention (违规干预) more than three times would be automatically reclassified as a remote-controlled team. This special robot marathon not only shows the rapid development of humanoid robot technology, but also reflects the fairness and strictness of 65 (science) competition rules. Pocket Parks in My Eyes _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 第二节(满分25分) 67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Li Yue, a Chinese high school exchange student in London, felt a little nervous when Mr. White said to the class, “This Thursday, I want each of you to bring something that matters to you and share it with the class.” Li Yue sat quietly, thinking hard about what to bring. Suddenly, she remembered that the Lantern Festival would be the following Tuesday. A bright idea struck her, making her eyes light up instantly. Thursday came quickly, and the classroom was filled with joy and laughter. Most students brought snacks and small toys to share. When it was Li Yue’ s turn, she stood up, holding a beautifully decorated wooden box. She opened it gently and took out a flat, folded piece of red paper. With a few quick, skillful folds and pulls, the paper magically turned into a delicate lantern frame. She placed a candle inside and lit it carefully. The gentle flame came alive, bathing the red lantern in warm light that spread throughout the classroom. “It’s incredible! What is it?” Emma, Li Yue’s deskmate, asked eagerly. Li Yue smiled and held up the lantern, introducing the Lantern Festival, its traditions of hanging lanterns, guessing riddles and eating a kind of sweet glutinous rice (糯米) balls called yuanxiao, and how red lanterns symbolize hope and reunion in Chinese culture. “ And this year, the Lantern Festival is exactly next Tuesday,” she said. Seeing how interested the whole class was, Mr. White walked over with a smile. “This is a wonderful way to connect different cultures,” he said to Li Yue. “Would you like to host a Lantern Festival party for the whole grade next Tuesday night ? I’m sure it will be fantastic.” Li Yue nodded firmly, her face bright with excitement. “I’d love to!” she replied. The class broke into applause, but as she sat down, a little worry set in ----how could she make the party fun and unforgettable? 注意: (1)续写词数应为 150 个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Li Yue realized that the key solution was getting everyone involved. _____________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The party took place as scheduled in the school cafeteria. _______________________________________ .__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案 1-5 ABACC 6-10 BCCBA 11-15 CCAAB 16-20 BBBAA A篇21-23 BCB B篇24-27 BACD C篇28-31 CBCA D篇32-35 CBAB 七选五36-40 BFADG 完形填空 41. M: No, nothing at all. W: OK. Here is your health form. Just a reminder — no food until after the blood test. After the test, you can use this form to get breakfast in the cafeteria. Text 2 M: We have a career-planning course on Friday afternoons next term. I was hoping to keep that time for my photography class. W: What? I usually have a club meeting then. Looks like we’ll both need to adjust our timetables. Text 3 W: I don’t believe this is your first time trying rock climbing. Staying balanced on the wall is never easy. M: I guess all those years of gymnastics training helped me. W: I’m seriously impressed. You climbed that wall like a natural! Text 4 W: How about going to Orlando this Christmas? M: Good. I’m tired of the cold here. W: I’m drawn to the activities there. I’ve seen photos of a lakeside market with lights strung across the streets and a big Christmas tree Text 5 M: Are you still looking for a guitarist for the music club? W: Yes, we are. M: What do I need to do to try out? W: Fill out this form, and we’ll inform you of the time and place of the interview. Text 6 M: Hello, this is Alex from BeanWorks. W: Hi, this is Sophie Lane. M: We’ve noticed your passion for coffee in your videos, and we think you’re the perfect person to showcase our Jura C8 coffee machine. W: Oh, I actually have one. I first discovered it at a coffee festival and later bought one for my family. It works really well. M: I’m glad to hear that! We’d like you to highlight its reliable features in your videos and tell your audience why it’s worth buying. We’ll provide full technical support throughout the process. W: I’m willing to cooperate. Text 7 M: Hi, Lydia! I heard Young Hearts has a fun volunteer event planned for November. Is that true? W: Yes! In November, we’re celebrating a decade of the group doing good. M: Wow! What motivated you to start Young Hearts? W: When I was 10, I started noticing that the service events I joined with my parents were rarely attended by children. So at 16, I launched Young Hearts, hoping to make volunteering fun for kids. M: How do you learn from running Young Hearts? W: Currently, I organize a different service project every month, such as community clean-ups and book donations to schools. I’ve learned how to motivate and communicate with kids from diverse backgrounds and lead the whole team with confidence and determination. Text 8 W: It’s a pleasure to meet you, Christian. You worked as a cameraman on Sir David’s film Wild London, and it’s been a great success. M: Yes. Sir David has a great effect on the course of my career. W: How did your interest in wildlife filming begin? M: I became interested in wildlife after getting a box set of Sir David’s films at 12. Soon after, I picked up a camera and started photographing animals. Now, 20 years later, I’m doing the exact same thing but for one of Sir David’s series. W: I heard you once wrote a letter to Sir David. M: Yes. When I was 19, I made a short wildlife film during a trip to Madagascar. My family encouraged me to send it to his studio. Ten days later, I received a reply pointing out what I did well and what I could improve. W: Amazing! Any advice for young people wanting to work in wildlife filming? M: Just like Wild London wants to show, it’s about appreciating what’s on your own doorstep. No matter where you are — in your garden, or at the park — you can notice the wildlife around you. Text 9 W: Hey, Mark! How are you settling in Beijing? Some of my students who were in your classes still ask about you from time to time. M: It’s wonderful. I’m just starting to find my feet at the school where I’m working. I can find places serving great tacos that taste just like those back home. I visited Beijing ten years ago, but the city looks completely different now. New subway lines and shopping malls are appearing at a fast pace. W: Have you had any trouble adjusting so far? M: I live quite close to my workplace, so it’s convenient, even though I don’t have a car. But it often takes me at least an hour to get to the city center for shopping or meeting friends. I’m thinking of moving closer to the city center. Text 10 M: Mr. Reisberg has gained a large following online for his adventures with Maxine, his 10-year-old dog. When health problems temporarily took Maxine out of the field, Mr. Reisberg teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization, to give shelter dogs a day in the city. It was a friend who suggested Mr. Reisberg make videos with shelter dogs to promote adoption. Best Friends Animal Society has several shelters that accept pets from across the country. In New York, it works with Animal Care Centers of NYC, whose shelters are struggling with overcrowding. In July, Animal Care Centers of NYC stopped taking pets.
