I showed my friend Mandy the bright-red paper. “There’s a five-day art camp this summer.”
Mandy took the paper and looked at it. “Tessa, you should go. You’re the 11 I am not.”
“But you can learn with me and have fun!” I said in an encouraging voice. “I really don’t want to go alone.”
Mandy smiled, “I tried, but I’m not good at it.”
Then, I called my other friends, but they all turned me down. 12 , I decided to go outside to draw the Westons’ pine tree to make myself feel better. On the way, I thought about the art camp and wished I could go to the camp 13 . Mandy could make friends with others in 10 minutes, but I was afraid when there were strangers’ faces around me. On the way to the park, I kept telling myself I would be fine if I couldn’t go to the camp. By the time I arrived there, I had made myself believe that I was happy to 14 the camp.
I took out my pencils and started drawing the 15 trunk (树干) of the pine. Once I started, I didn’t notice the fly (苍蝇) buzzing around me. That’s why I 16 when Mr. Weston suddenly talked behind me, “You’ve done a great job showing the strength of that tree.” “Thanks.” I smiled. Mr. Weston continued, “I 17 pine trees a few years ago. They have to spread out the roots near the surface so the tree can get enough water and grow tall with the earth around. If you plant the root ball too deep, the tree dries up and dies. Roots grow out, not 18 .”
Now I noticed the roots all around the tree. It made me think about the art camp and my own roots. I was keeping myself in one 19 hole because it made me feel safer. If I wanted to grow, I had to start reaching out too.
That night, I made my final 20 . I felt nervous but excited. “I am stretching my roots out into new earth so I can grow”, I thought. “I am the pine”.

11.B 12.A 13.C 14.A 15.B 16.C 17.D 18.C 19.C 20.A
根据前文Mandy鼓励Tessa去参加艺术夏令营,以及后文“I tried, but I’m not good at it”可知,Mandy认为自己不擅长艺术,而Tessa是擅长艺术的“艺术家”。
give up“放弃”。
Weston说的“showing the strength of that tree”呼应。
down“向下”与后文“根向外伸展”形成对比,且与前文“plant the root ball too deep”以及“roots grow out”呼应。
Weston所说的“plant the root ball too deep”(根球种得太深)以及“Roots grow out, not down”(根向外而非向下生长)直接呼应。
make a decision“做决定”。mind“头脑/想法”(make up one’s mind下决心)、dream“梦想”、plan“计划”,其中make a final decision为常见搭配。
A
(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期中)Because of busy lifestyles and work stress, more Chinese people are now turning to AI tools like DeepSeek to talk about their problems. They share feelings with the chatbot and receive warm advice. This practice, known as “AI therapy (疗法),” is becoming popular online. But can robots really replace human therapists?
Around the world. 45 percent of people who needed care in 2024 did not get it because it was too costly or there weren’t enough doctors. Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could help fill this gap. “If people can find some support and ideas by talking to ChatGPT or chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” Lowd told Newsweek. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s basic needs for emotional support to a point.
However, AI has its disadvantages. Human therapists understand feelings deeply through face-to-face talks and create treatment plans—something robots can’t fully copy. Dr. LiuYang, a psychologist (心理学家), notes “An AI might recognize keywords like ‘divorce’, but it cannot find out small changes in tone or body language”. This point becomes important when dealing with a series of situations, where misunderstandings could be dangerous.
Another problem is safety. AI cannot match the level of responsibility that human therapists have. Experts believe the key to safe AI therapy is strict government control. For example, Wysa, an AI mental health app, follows strict medical standards in the UK.
Data privacy appears as another large concern (担忧). Users usually share personal details on AI platforms, yet few companies clearly state how this information is stored or used.
As AI becomes part of daily life, finding a balance between its benefits and risks is important. While AI offers quick help, human connection remains irreplaceable for serious emotional needs.
21.What makes people turn to “AI therapy”?
A.That AI therapy is warmer. B.That people feel much pressure.
C.That AI tools are free. D.That DeepSeek is popular.
22.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The government control. B.The AI tool.
C.The medical standard. D.Mental health care.
23.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A.AI therapy is nicer and cheaper than human therapists.
B.AI robots will soon replace human therapists in hospitals.
C.AI has limits in understanding deep emotions and safety risks.
D.AI can perfectly copy human therapists’ skills and methods.
24.Why does the writer mention the Wysa app?
A.To explain why China needs more therapists.
B.To prove robots can deal with emergencies.
C.To show AI is cheaper than human doctors.
D.To give an example of safe AI under rules.
25.What is the writer’s attitude toward AI therapy?
A.Fully supportive. B.Completely against.
C.Mixed and fair. D.Doesn’t care.
根据“Because of busy lifestyles and work stress, more Chinese people are now turning to AI tools...”
根据“45 percent of people who needed care in 2024 did not get it because it was too costly or there weren’t enough doctors.”
根据“AI cannot match the level of responsibility...in the UK”可知,在严格监管下,AI疗法可以做到安全可靠。
B
(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期中)Samuel lived in a small village near a big mountain. He was an ordinary man, but he had big dreams and a heart full of hope. Even if life was not easy for him, he always believed hard work could change everything.

C
The third month of the school year has now arrived. Have you paid attention to how, when we talk about numbers, we naturally think of the number three?
In some ways, “three” is a number that has magical powers. If you are a close observer of life, you should have found that this number is all around us. Everything has a beginning, a middle and an end. We eat three meals a day. Traffic lights all over the world use three colors: red, yellow and green. And there is the rule of three. It is an age-old writing technique. According to this rule, things can always become more satisfying to readers if they come in threes. Did you know that the world’s most powerful brands use the rule of three to enhance their marketing? Just do it. I’m loving it. Coke is it. All of these famous slogans are three words long. (And perhaps you have realized that we have only offered three examples. Well, in many articles, examples often come in threes.) (Including this one, it’s four).
But what is it about the number three that makes it so magical? Well, we know that the human brain is very complex. However, it enjoys thinking in patterns. It is always trying to find structure in seemingly unrelated information. What’s more, if there are no patterns, our brains will create them. And three is the smallest number needed to form a pattern. As the old saying goes, “Once is luck, twice is coincidence and three times is a pattern.” Moreover, our brains can only remember a little information at any given moment. An audience member will usually only remember three things from a speech. Do you want something in your presentation to stick in your audience’s minds? Put it forward to them in groups of three.
If we properly use the rule of three in our daily lives, we can make many things easier. For example, many people like to add lots of tasks to their to-do lists. Experts, however, suggest they should limit themselves to just three tasks. These top three tasks should be hard enough to be challenging while still being achievable. And the next time you are making New Year’s resolutions, consider listing only three things to work on. The longer your list is, ________!
31.What example does the author list to explain the rule of three in marketing?
A.People have three meals eaten daily. B.Three types of advertising methods.
C.Three different colors in traffic lights. D.Three slogans that all have three words.
32.What does the underlined word “pattern” mean?
A.A design made from repeated lines, shapes, or colours.
B.A drawing or shape used to show how to make things.
C.A particular way in which something is done or organized.
D.A small piece taken from something to show what it is like.
33.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.People naturally trust the messages more if they are only three words long.
B.The number three is powerful because it represents a symbol of good luck.
C.The human brain requires exactly three elements to recognize any kind of pattern.
D.Big brands mainly use three-word slogans because they are easier to remember.
34.Which of the following best fits the blank in the last paragraph?
A.the less likely you are to keep it B.the more productive you will be
C.the happier you will feel next year D.the better you can manage your time
35.Where can you probably read the passage?
A.In a school textbook on social studies. B.In a science report about brain research.
C.In a business newspaper on marketing. D.In a magazine about language and life.
【答案】31.D 32.C 33.D 34.A 35.D
根据“Did you know that the world’s most powerful brands use the rule of three to enhance their marketing? Just do it. I’m loving it. Coke is it. All of these famous slogans are three words long.”
根据“Once is luck, twice is coincidence and three times is a pattern.”
根据“our brains can only remember a little information”及“...usually only remember three things from a speech”可知,品牌使用三词标语是为了便于记忆。故选D。
根据文章最后一段“The longer your list is...” 故选A。
Have you ever wondered why the letters on a keyboard are not in “ABC” order?
The keyboard we use every day is called the QWERTY keyboard layout (布局). Q, W, E, R, T, Y are the first six letters on this layout, starting from the top left. 36
The first manual typewriter (手动打字机), with a keyboard which looked like a piano, was invented in the late 19th century. 37 However, it was later discovered that as the typing speed increased, some keys failed to come back to their places quickly. As a result, they got jammed (卡住) very easily. 38 To solve this problem, the QWERTY keyboard was developed. It placed keys in such a way that the most used letters were spaced out so that the keys were more likely to work freely.
39 With the arrival of the computer, the typists in offices were the same people who were to now operate computers. This meant the typists had to be trained to use the new device. 40 It was easier to design the keyboards following the layout of typewriters, which was the QWERTY layout, and this continues even today.
A.But training required too much time and money.
B.However, another problem came about in the 1940s.
C.These typewriters did have the ABC keyboard layout.
D.To understand why we went with QWERTY, we need to go back in history.
E.Most typists ended up breaking the typewriter altogether when separating the keys.
【答案】36.D 37.C 38.E 39.B 40.A
根据前文提出的问题“Have you ever wondered why the letters on a keyboard are not in ‘ABC’ order?” D项“To understand why we went with QWERTY, we need to go back in history.”
C项“These typewriters did have the ABC keyboard layout.”符合语境与下文“keys failed to come back…got jammed (卡住)”的麻烦构成对比。
E项“Most typists ended up breaking the typewriter altogether when separating the keys.”

Books Build Bridges
In a small village far from the city, children had very few books to read. Their school library was almost empty. A group of students from a city middle school learned about this and decided to take action. They started a book drive called “Pages of Friendship”.
First, they made posters and gave speeches in their school to encourage book donations. They collected used books from their own homes, classmates, and neighbours. Then they put the books into different groups: storybooks for primary students, science and history books for older children, and colourful picture books for the youngest readers.
After that, they worked with their teachers to contact the village school and plan how to send the books. Every month, they carefully packed and sent a box of 50 books. To make the connection more meaningful, they also wrote letters to the village children, sharing good books and their own school life stories. The village children wrote back with drawings and their thoughts about the books, expressing their excitement and thankfulness. One student wrote, “These books are like windows to a bigger world that I’ve never seen before.” The project not only provided books for children, but also built a bridge of friendship between city and village students.

A
(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期中)Because of busy lifestyles and work stress, more Chinese people are now turning to AI tools like DeepSeek to talk about their problems.

B.AI robots will soon replace human therapists in hospitals.
C.AI has limits in understanding deep emotions and safety risks.

D.To give an example of safe AI under rules.
25.What is the writer’s attitude toward AI therapy?
