What started as a simple father-daughter outing has grown into a movement known as the Library Dads, a group of fathers who gather with their children to bond (建立关系) over books and build community together. The idea began when Khari Arnold started taking his young daughter, Araya, to the library. Wanting to create a meaningful connection with his child while also giving her a lifelong gift, Arnold made reading a regular part of their life.
Inspired by the joy he and his daughter shared, Arnold posted a message on social media, showing their library adventures and invited other fathers to join in. Before long, local fathers began showing up with their children for what became known as “Library Link-Ups”. The gatherings are filled with story time, one-on-one reading sessions between fathers and their children, and plenty of laughter along the way — including what the group lovingly calls “tickle time”.
Behind the fun is also a serious goal. Studies have found that more than half of adults in the United States read below a sixth-grade level. Educators across the country are searching for ways to improve literacy (读写能力) at an earlier age. Research from Ohio State University found that children who are read just one book a day hear about 300,000 more words by age 5 than children who are not regularly read to by a parent.
“We want to connect through books and build a brotherhood,” Arnold said. “One of the things we want to do here is reduce that feeling of loneliness and also ease the literacy problem.”
But for the fathers of Library Dads, the goal starts with something beautifully simple: sitting down with a child, opening a book, and turning pages together. And in the process, they are helping raise not only stronger readers but also stronger families.
24. What gave Arnold the idea of starting Library Dads?
A. Advice from a post on social media.
B. Widespread adult reading problems.
C. Happy reading time with his daughter.
D. Community calls for fathers’ activities.
25. Why did Arnold share his library trips online?
A. To collect free books for little kids.
B. To advertise the local public library.
C. To record stories for educational studies.
D. To attract more fathers to read with kids.
26. What does the research from Ohio State University show?
A. Early reading benefits children a lot.
B. Parents should improve their literacy.
C. Kids are losing interest in regular reading.
D. Most of the US adults lack basic reading ability.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Community Efforts: Reducing Kids’ Loneliness
B. Warm Activities: Changing Fathers’ Connections
C. Library Dads: Building Family Bonds Through Reading
D. Library Link-Ups: Improving Adults’ Literacy by Reading
C
Interested in increasing your length of life? All you may have to do is try different kinds of exercise. Changing between activities such as walking, swimming, yoga, and gardening can result in a huge 19% decrease in your chance of death from all causes, according to recent research.
“A 19% decrease is a big deal,” said Dr James Voos from University Hospitals in Cleveland. “When you look at the research, anything that shows such great benefit should encourage us to take a look at our habits.”
An international team of scientists carefully examined data from two large studies involving more than 110,000 people whose physical activity was recorded over 30 years. The findings, published in the journal BMJ Medicine in January, showed that those who had the largest variety in their physical activity lived the longest. The researchers found that taking up many different forms of movements could also be more beneficial than doing the same activity for a longer amount of time. Dr Han Han, a co-first author of the study and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, said, “We’re usually thinking more about how much we exercise. These results add a new dimension (维) to the existing evidence in this field.”
Adults should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity (中等强度的) exercise every week, according to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans published by the US Department of Health and Human Services. The guidelines also advise adults to do muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater intensity at least twice per week, and note that varying your exercises can prevent overuse injuries.
“Doing a variety of exercises is surely beneficial,” Dr James Voos said. “Your body needs different ranges of motion, strength, and balance, and cross-training lets your body see all of those different movements each week.”
28. What does the recent research find out?
A. Longer exercise time brings greater health benefits.
B. Gardening works best for people’s long-term health.
C. Mixed-activity exercisers may have a lower death risk.
D. 19% of the people benefit from regular physical training.
29. What does Dr Han Han think of the results of the study?
A. They are expected. B. They are fresh.
C. They are hard to understand. D. They are familiar to people.
30. Why is the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans mentioned?
A. To show past research limits. B. To question experts’ opinions.
C. To introduce new sports rules. D. To support the study’s findings.
31. What can we learn from Dr James Voos’s words?
A. Few people know the cross-training rules.
B. Cross-training may cause overuse injuries.
C. Balance is hardly gained through exercise.
D. Cross-training meets bodies’ different needs.
D
A monkey with orange lips (嘴唇) that sounds like a frog? That’s Likweli, a kind of monkey recently discovered in the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Researchers have only recently learned about the monkey. Likweli monkeys are found high in the trees of the rainforest in Congo’s Lomami National Park. For scientists, the first sign of the monkeys came in 2008, when some researchers took a blurry photo.
Junior Amboko is one of the researchers who recently helped identify the new species (物种). “Since it wasn’t a clear picture,” he says, “no one paid attention.” Then, in 2018, another researcher managed to take a picture in which they could make out more details. When Amboko’s team saw the orange lips of the hairy black monkey in the photo, they knew it didn’t look like any other species of monkeys nearby.
Over the next four years, they traveled in and around Lomami National Park to find the monkeys. They had to cover a huge area, searching through the upper branches (树枝) of the trees in the rainforest, trying to catch sight of the animals. They spotted the monkeys just 114 times. They discovered that the Likweli lived in a very small area. Mr Amboko says the monkeys are kind of shy, which is another reason why people know so little about them.
Even so, the researchers managed to find out a lot about them. They know that an adult Likweli weighs about 6.8 kilograms. They don’t really have thumbs (拇指), so they hold things with their other fingers. They have shiny black fur and a long tail. And around their mouths and noses, they have pinkish-orange marks.
Sadly, the researchers say that Likweli monkeys should be considered endangered. They live in a small area of rainforest that is in danger of being destroyed. Also, they are hunted. The researchers hope the discovery will help bring attention to the need to protect the Congo rainforest.
32. What does the underlined word “blurry” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Common. B. Unclear. C. Serious. D. Personal.
33. What can be inferred about the search for Likweli monkeys?
A. It was slow and difficult.
B. It finished within one year.
C. It mainly depended on local videos.
D. It focused on the ground of the forest.
34. What do the researchers stress in the last paragraph?
A. The discovery matters for rainforest protection.
B. The monkeys’ future has become more hopeful.
C. Researchers have taken Likweli monkeys to safety.
D. Much work has been done to protect the rainforest.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. Physical appearance of Likweli monkeys.
B. Two natural dangers facing Likweli monkeys.
C. The disappearance of rainforest monkeys in Congo.
D. A new monkey species hidden in the Congo Rainforest.

Study groups are helpful because your friends and classmates can help you understand difficult topics. 36 However, forming a study group is not without its challenges. By following simple guidelines, you can form a productive group that benefits everyone.
Survey your classmates to find out who are interested in forming a group. Look around the classroom and find out who you’d like to be in your group. Before class begins or after it ends, ask classmates around you if they’d be interested in meeting up. 37 If too many respond, choose a few for your group and connect everyone else so they can form their own small groups.
Decide on meeting times that suit everyone. To have an effective study group, make sure you meet for at least an hour each week. Figure out a time that works for everyone each week and try to stick to it. 38
Choose a good collaborative (协作的) space. Once you know what time everyone can meet, you need to find a suitable space. Look for a space that has tables big enough for your group to gather around and spread out all their materials. 39 Just make sure you reserve an area where your group is free to talk and won’t disturb others.
40 The biggest problems in a study group arise from miscommunication over roles and responsibilities. Clear guidelines can prevent that and keep things on track. Most importantly, make sure every member has a chance to speak up. If everyone feels included, no one will think you’re taking control.
A. Set up some ground rules early on.
B. Experiment with different study methods.
C. A study group works best with about four to five members.
D. Pay attention to your classmates’ level of effort in the classroom.
E. This way, everyone will get into the habit of coming and won’t forget.
F. And you’ll feel good when you get to explain something they have trouble with.
G. Library study rooms, coffee shops, or group members’ homes are great locations.

Two years ago, Jean went hiking with her friend in the famous Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Having explored this area many times before, they had been quite familiar with the local landform and walking routes. Everything went smoothly at first until they reached the mountain top, where a sudden storm broke out. Heavy snow poured down. Thunder boomed and lightning flashed all around, putting them at great risk of being struck by lightning.
To escape from the dangerous situation, they decided to give up the regular path and climb down the icy mountain with professional tools. Both of them were experienced climbers, yet Jean accidentally slipped (滑倒) and fell a long distance down the rocky hillside. She suffered serious wounds. To make matters worse, there was no cell service on any of their mobile phones, so they had no way to call for help.
Lying weakly on the ground, Jean was covered in blood, suffering from bone fractures (断裂) and head injuries. Just as all hope seemed to be lost, they heard a car pass by and her friend immediately cried out for help. Thankfully, the car stopped, and a man driver got off. Seeing Jean’s terrible condition, he hurried forward to comfort and calm her down. His gentle words relieved her endless fear and strengthened her strong will to survive.
In order to ensure Jean received treatment in time, the man drove Jean and her friend to the nearby town hospital immediately. Too tired and aching to speak, Jean could only keep all this kindness firmly in her heart.
Months later, Jean fully recovered. In such an emergency (紧急情况), she failed to ask for the stranger’s contact information. However, she had never stopped missing the unknown hero. She always wished she could meet him again, expressing her thanks face to face.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Jean tried different solutions, determined to find the man.
One day, she got a call, a familiar gentle voice coming from the other end.

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club — we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize?
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages — you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday — Spanish; Tuesday — Italian; Wednesday — German; and Friday — French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information. If you join now, you can have the first month free.

参考范文:
Dear Jack,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble choosing between the chess club and the painting club. I’d like to offer some suggestions.
If I were you, I would sign up for the painting club. For one thing, you have shown great interest in drawing since you came to China, so joining it will satisfy your hobby. For another, painting can calm your mind and offer you a good chance to make more creative friends. Besides, you can learn more about Chinese traditional artworks.
Of course, the chess club is also wonderful. But you can watch its activities in your spare time, even if you don’t join it. Hope my advice will be helpful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
参考范文:
Jean tried different solutions, determined to find the man. She contacted the local hospital where she had been treated, hoping they might have records of the driver who brought her in. Besides, she posted her story on social media, describing the man’s appearance and the rough location of the accident. She even went back to the mountain area several times, asking nearby residents if they remembered any passers-by that day. She believed that as long as she kept searching, she would finally find the kind stranger who had saved her life.
One day, she got a call, a familiar gentle voice coming from the other end. “I heard you’ve been looking for me,” the man on the phone said. Jean’s heart raced with excitement and gratitude. It turned out that one of his friends had seen her online post and told him about it. They arranged to meet at a cafe. Jean thanked him tearfully for his timely help. The man smiled modestly and said he was just doing what anyone would do. From that day on, they became good friends and kept the spirit of kindness alive by helping people in need whenever possible.
