How a visit led to a war
Long ago, according to an ancient Greek story, Paris, a prince of Troy, sailed to Sparta. The King of Sparta welcomed him and invited him to dinner. At dinner, Paris met Helen, the king’s wife. Paris and Helen fell in love.
A few days later, the king had to leave his kingdom for a short time. While he was away, Paris and Helen left Sparta together. They sailed back to Troy.
When the king returned, he found that Helen and Paris were gone. He was very angry. He asked other Greek leaders for help and brought together a large army. Then the army sailed towards Troy. The king wanted to bring Helen back. In the story, these events led to a war that lasted for ten years.
This is one ancient story about the beginning of the Trojan War. It tells us about people’s decisions and their serious results. However, a story alone cannot prove exactly what happened in the distant past.
一 合理预测均可,如a prince、a king、a visit、a war。
三 A—5;B—1;C—6;D—2;E—3;F—4。顺序为B → D → E → F → A → C。
1. Troy 2. wife 3. very angry 4. Helen 5. H 6. I 7. N。
人物:the captain。依据可用“We Trojans can’t be beaten!”
There is a / HUGE WOODEN HORSE / outside the CITY.
Scene A Inside the horse
Soldier A: (whispers) It is quiet now. Shall we get out?
Soldier B: (listens carefully) Not yet. Someone may still be awake.
Soldier A: But I can hardly move my legs!
Soldier B: Wait a little longer. We must be sure it is safe.
Soldier A: All right. Then we can open the gate.
Soldier B: Yes. Slowly and quietly.
Scene B At the gate
Soldier: (points at the wheels) Captain, why is the horse so easy to move?
Captain: The Greeks could not take it with them. Bring it inside.
Soldier: (steps forward) Could we check it first? There may be people inside.
Captain: (pauses) You may be right. Keep it outside for now.
Soldier: I will ask the guards to watch it.
Captain: Good. Let us find out more before we celebrate.
Which line shows a reason? What did the action in brackets add?
