Unit 5 Celebrations(Reading and Writing)教学设计 《英语 基础模块1》(高教版 第三版) 课题 Unit 5 Celebrations — Reading and Writing 课 型 新授课 课 时 2课时(共80分钟) 授课班级 授课时间 40分钟/课时 授课教师 教材分析 This lesson is chosen from the Reading and Writing section of Unit 5 Celebrations in 《英语 基础模块1》(高教版 第三版). It consists of two closely-linked parts. In the reading part, students read a formal invitation email, in which Li Mei, Marketing Manager of ABC Shopping, warmly invites Mr. Michael Smith, General Manager of FT Clothing, to the opening ceremony of a new shopping mall. In the writing part, students read a poster about the “A Taste of China” Welcome Banquet and write an invitation email to the UK exchange students. (Knowledge Base):Having finished Warming Up and Listening and Speaking, students have already mastered celebration-related words (birthday party, opening ceremony, banquet, welcome party) and oral invitation patterns such as “Would you like to come?” and “When and where are you going to hold it?”. They can catch basic information like the time, place and activities of an event. However, they have not systematically learned the structure or the formal language of written invitation emails yet. ② 认知能力(Cognitive Ability):Most students can understand simple emails and pick out surface information, but their ability to summarize paragraph functions, analyse text structure and transfer reading into writing is still weak. Their writing levels vary greatly: some can write complete and correct sentences, while others can only fill in blanks with given expressions. Therefore, tiered tasks and sufficient scaffolding are necessary. ③ 学习特点(Learning Characteristics):Students show strong interest in topics close to real life and the workplace. They prefer multi-modal input (pictures, videos) and game-like activities such as the “Email Doctor” game, and enjoy pair and group work. Meanwhile, their attention span is limited, and formal all-English texts easily cause anxiety. The teacher will use mind maps, sentence frames and evaluation checklists to lower difficulty and build confidence step by step. 教学目标 1. 知识与能力目标(Knowledge & Ability Objectives) (1) Master the key words (invitation, ceremony, attend, event, partner, support, celebrate, confirm) and useful phrases (on behalf of ..., invite ... to ..., play an important role in ..., look forward to ...); (2) Be able to read a formal invitation email, find the four core pieces of information (the 4 Ws: Who, What, When, Where) and match paragraphs with their functions; (3) Be able to write a complete, logical and polite invitation email according to the information given in a poster. 2. (Key Points):(1) Grasping the four core pieces of information (the 4 Ws) of a formal invitation and the function of each paragraph; (2) Using key words and sentence patterns such as “On behalf of ..., I would like to warmly invite you to ...” to complete the writing task. 难点(Difficult Point):Organizing the four core pieces of information into a logically clear, politely worded invitation email and using the formal register properly. 教学方法 Situational teaching(情境教学法)、task-based teaching(任务型教学法)、reading-writing integration(读写结合)、cooperative learning(小组合作学习)、game-based practice(游戏化操练)。 课前准备 教师(Teacher):multimedia courseware, celebration video, the model email, writing frames, self- and peer-evaluation checklists. 学生(Students):preview the new words; recall an experience of inviting someone to an event. 教学媒体 Multimedia classroom, PPT courseware, textbook, audio & video clips, blackboard. 教学过程 —— 第一课时 Reading(阅读课,40分钟) 教学环节 教师活动设计 学生活动设计 设计意图 Step 1 Lead-in 导入 (5 min) 1) Greet the class and play a short video about celebrations, then show the picture of a birthday party. 图1 Celebrations around us 庆祝活动 2) Ask: What can you see in the video? When do we usually celebrate? How do we invite people to a party in English? 3) Invite students to raise their hands and share one word (people, cake, balloon, birthday, festival ...). Watch the video, look at the picture and brainstorm answers; share their own celebration experiences and the ways they usually send invitations. 通过视频与图片创设真实的庆祝情境,激活学生已有的口头邀请表达,自然引出本课话题,激发学习兴趣。 Step 2 Pre-reading 看图学词 (6 min) Show pictures and teach the key words: celebrate (a birthday cake), banquet (dishes on the table), opening ceremony (ribbon-cutting), invite / partner (talking bubbles). Ask students to look, say the word and use it in a short sentence. 图2 celebrate / opening ceremony / banquet / invite & partner Invite students to point to their favourite picture and make a sentence. Look at the pictures, say the words and make sentences, e.g. “We celebrate birthdays with a big cake.” “A banquet is a big dinner for many guests.” 以图片辅助词汇学习,词不离句,扫清阅读中的词汇障碍,为理解邀请函做好语言铺垫。 Step 3 Pre-reading Activity 9 讨论排序 (5 min) 1) Ask: What makes a formal invitation? A formal invitation usually answers: Who? What? When? Where? And it often ends with RSVP (please reply). 2) Get students to work in pairs and number the five items in the order they usually appear: A. time and date; B. place / address; C. purpose of the event; D. name of the host / guest; E. request for reply. 3) Check answers and invite three students to put the items in order on the board. Discuss in pairs, number the items and report their answers; get to know the basic elements of a formal invitation. 引导学生预测正式邀请函的构成要素,搭建阅读图式,为快速把握语篇结构做好铺垫。 Step 4 While-reading Activity 10 Read and tick 快速阅读 (6 min) 1) Present the email (From: Li Mei, Marketing Manager of ABC Shopping; To: Mr. Michael Smith, General Manager of FT Clothing; Subject: Invitation to the Opening Ceremony), and play the recording. 2) Ask students to read the email quickly and tick the text type: a personal email / a business email / an advertisement email. 3) Check the answer (a business email) and ask students to explain the reasons, guiding them to notice the formal salutation “Dear Mr. Smith” and the closing “Sincerely yours”. 【课程思政】结合邮件规范的称呼、落款等格式,引导学生体会商务书面沟通中“礼始于细节”,培养严谨规范的职业习惯。 Read the email quickly, tick the text type and explain: It is a business email because it uses a formal greeting, a formal closing and business information. 训练快速阅读与文体判断能力,引导学生关注正式语体的格式特征,自然渗透职场规范与礼仪意识。 Step 5 While-reading Activity 11 Read and complete 提取四项核心信息 (8 min) 1) Present the mind map of the 4 Ws and ask students to read the email again and find: Who is invited? What is the event? When will it take place? Where will it be held? 2) Check answers: Who — Michael Smith (of FT Clothing); What — the opening ceremony of the new ABC shopping mall; When — 10:00 a.m. on November 8; Where — 108 Nanping Road, Futian District, Shenzhen. 3) Ask students to retell the invitation with the help of the mind map. 4) Extend relevant knowledge about formal invitations: dress code, invitation card, RSVP, etc. Read purposefully, complete the mind map with the four Ws, retell the invitation and take notes of the extended knowledge. 借助思维导图引导学生有目的地阅读,提取并梳理邀请函的四项核心信息,提升信息加工与复述能力,突破教学重点。 Step 6 While-reading Activity 12 Read and match 归纳段落功能 (6 min) 1) Ask students to match each paragraph with its function: Para. A — State the purpose, event, time and place; Para. B — Give background and reasons for the invitation; Para. C — Ask the guest to reply and end politely. 2) Ask students to underline the key words, phrases and sentences: invitation, event, partner, support, celebrate, confirm; on behalf of sb., invite ... to ..., play an important role in ..., look forward to; “We hope you will be able to confirm your attendance before November 1st.” 3) Check answers, ask students to explain the reasons and cultivate their paragraph awareness. Read the whole email, match paragraph functions, underline and read aloud the key expressions. 通过段落功能匹配与语言点圈画,帮助学生归纳邀请函“目的—背景—回执”的三段式结构,积累写作语言,为第二课时写作搭桥。 Step 7 Language Focus 语言点聚焦 (3 min) Explain the usage of the key expressions with examples: “I would like to thank you on behalf of the team.” “The Internet plays an important role in our daily life.” “I'm looking forward to meeting you in person.” Then give a quick fill-in-the-blank check. Listen, take notes and complete the quick practice. 集中处理重难点语言,讲练结合,确保学生能准确理解并初步运用核心句型。 Step 8 Summary & Homework 小结与作业 (1 min) 1) Summarize: the text type, the 4 Ws, paragraph functions and the key language of a formal invitation email. 2) Homework: ① Copy and memorize the key words and phrases; ② Read the invitation email aloud and preview Activity 13 (the poster); ③ Think: What makes an invitation polite? 【课程思政】用 “A polite invitation is the first step to good communication.”(礼貌的邀请是良好沟通的第一步)结束本课,引导学生在人际与职场交往中以礼待人。 Review what has been learned and note down the homework. 梳理本课要点,巩固所学,同时以礼貌教育收束课堂,为第二课时的写作教学做好铺垫。 教学过程 —— 第二课时 Writing(写作课,40分钟) 教学环节 教师活动设计 学生活动设计 设计意图 Step 1 Review Memory Game 复习游戏 (5 min) 1) Show the key words and phrases for 10 seconds (invitation, attend, ceremony, partner, celebrate, confirm; on behalf of, look forward to, play an important role in), then hide them. 2) Ask: What phrase means “代表”? Which word means “出席”? How do you ask someone to reply to an invitation? 3) Review the 4 Ws and the paragraph functions of the invitation email with the class. 图3 Memory Challenge 记忆挑战 Look, memorize and answer the questions; recall the structure and key language of the invitation email. 以游戏化方式复习上节课词汇与文体结构,活跃课堂气氛,为写作输出激活语言储备。 Step 2 Pre-writing Activity 13 Read the poster 读海报取信息 (6 min) 1) Present the poster “A Taste of China — Welcome Banquet” (For exchange students from the UK; Friday, October 8, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; School Cafeteria; have a taste of Chinese food; enjoy performances of traditional Chinese music; get to know the school and schoolmates). 图4 A Taste of China 中华美食 2) Ask: What information from the poster must go into the email? Guide students to find the 4 Ws and the activities from the poster. 【课程思政】借海报中的中国美食与传统民乐,引导学生关注中华文化元素,鼓励学生用英语向外国友人介绍中国文化,增强文化自信,做热情好客的中国主人。 Read the poster, pick out the four Ws and the banquet activities, and answer the teacher's questions. 训练学生从海报等多模态材料中提取写作信息的能力,实现“读—写”转换;同时自然融入文化自信与待客之道教育。 Step 3 While-writing Learn from the model 范文引路 (6 min) 1) Present the model email and ask students to read it carefully. 图5 Learn from the model email 范文学习 2) Guide students to analyse its structure: Subject (Invitation to a Welcome Banquet) → Salutation (Dear friends) → Purpose (On behalf of our school, I would like to warmly invite you to attend ...) → Information (time, place, activities) → Polite ending (Please confirm your attendance by October 1. We look forward to seeing you ...) → Closing (Yours sincerely). 3) Highlight the useful sentence frames on the writing template. Read the model email, summarize its structure with the teacher and copy down the useful sentence frames. 范文引路、结构解析,让学生明确“写什么、按什么顺序写、用什么句型写”,降低写作畏难情绪。 Step 4 While-writing Draft the email 独立写作 (10 min) 1) Hand out the writing frame: To / From / Subject; Dear ...; On behalf of ..., I would like to warmly invite you to ...; The event will take place at ... on ...; We can ... and ...; Please confirm your attendance by ...; We look forward to seeing you!; Yours sincerely. 2) Ask students to draft the invitation email to the UK exchange students; the teacher circulates and gives individual support. 【分层要求】基础较弱的学生可借助句型框架完成填空式写作;学有余力的学生需独立成文并适当增加个性化内容(如欢迎语、对活动的期待)。 Write the first draft individually, using the poster information and the sentence frames; ask the teacher for help when necessary. 仿照范文进行迁移写作,落实教学重点;分层任务让不同水平的学生都能获得成就感。 Step 5 Post-writing Email Doctor & Peer editing 互评改错 (8 min) 1) Play the “Email Doctor” game: show a “sick email” with four mistakes — “I want invite you to my birthday party. The party will hold at my home ... I look forward see you there!” and guide students to correct them (want to invite / will take place / look forward to seeing / Subject: Invitation to my birthday party). 2) Organize self-check and peer editing with the checklist: Is the spelling correct? Is the punctuation proper? Is the grammar correct? Are the four Ws complete? Is the tone polite? 图6 Writing checklist 写作自评互评表 3) Ask two or three students to show their revised emails and give feedback. Find and correct the mistakes in the “sick email”; exchange drafts, evaluate each other with the checklist and polish their own writing. 以改错游戏和自评互评量表“以评促写”,强化语言准确性与礼貌表达,培养自主修改习惯与合作学习意识。 Step 6 Summary & Reflection 总结升华 (3 min) 1) Summarize the structure and useful expressions of an invitation email. 2) Think beyond the text: A good invitation is more than information — it shows culture and care. Formal English invitations are direct but polite, while Chinese invitations often stress warmth and relationship. Ask: What would happen if the invitation were rude or unclear? 【课程思政】引导学生认识:得体的邀请体现尊重与诚信;在跨文化交际中既要保持文化自信,也要尊重他国礼仪,做文明有礼的沟通者。 Summarize with the teacher and share their opinions about politeness and culture in communication. 梳理写作要点,引导学生在语言学习的同时思考礼仪与文化,实现语言能力与育人价值的融合。 Step 7 Homework 作业布置 (2 min) 1) Polish your email according to the checklist and hand it in. 2) Suppose you are Mary Fisher. Write an email to invite the general manager to the welcome banquet for the new employees. 3) Prepare a short dialogue: invite your friend to a school event and ask for a reply. Finish the homework after class and preview the next section. 巩固课堂所学,实现从“仿写”到“独立写作”的提升,并为下节课的口语活动做准备。 板书设计 (第一课时) Unit 5 Reading and Writing — A Formal Invitation Email The 4 Ws: Who — Michael Smith (FT Clothing); What — the opening ceremony of the new ABC shopping mall; When — 10:00 a.m., November 8; Where — 108 Nanping Road, Futian District. Paragraph functions: ① State the purpose, event, time & place; ② Give background & reasons; ③ Ask for a reply & end politely. Key language: on behalf of / invite ... to ... / play an important role in ... / look forward to ... 板书设计 (第二课时) Unit 5 Writing — An Invitation Email Structure: Subject → Salutation → Purpose (On behalf of ..., I would like to warmly invite you to ...) → Information (time / place / activities) → Polite ending (Please confirm ... We look forward to ...) → Closing (Yours sincerely). Poster information: A Taste of China / Friday, October 8 / 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. / School Cafeteria. 教学评价 Adopt multi-form evaluation: classroom observation, Q&A feedback, self- and peer-evaluation of writing, plus homework marking. 采用“课堂观察+问答反馈+写作自评互评+作业批改”相结合的多元评价方式。课堂上通过快速问答与游戏抢答了解学生的掌握情况;写作环节使用评价量表(Checklist:拼写、标点、语法、四项核心信息是否完整、语气是否礼貌)开展自评与互评;课后通过作业批改跟进,对写作困难的学生进行个别辅导,关注不同层次学生的进步。 教学反思 (授课后结合实际填写,以下为参考方向)In the reading period, most students could find the four Ws with the help of the mind map, but summarizing paragraph functions still needs more scaffolding. In the writing period, some students depended too much on the sentence frames, and the variety and appropriateness of their language should be improved. Later, more accumulation of good sentences from the model email and face-to-face correction for weaker students are needed. 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
