A dozen girls and boys, wearing backpacks, jump down the muddy river bank and into the boat that provides their daily transport. Their highway is the Rio Wichimi, a river lined with towering, parrot-filled trees. It winds through the Ecuadorian Amazon. And the fuel that powers their boat is the fierce (猛烈的) tropical sun. Since 2016, the native Achuar people have travelled in solar-powered boats along the Amazonian waters of eastern Ecuador for trading, city tasks, monitoring illegal loggers and studying at school. The project, set up by the nonprofit Kara Solar, shows sustainable infrastructure (基础设施) development in the rapidly disappearing Amazon rainforest. Over the years, Ecuador has lost about 2.3 million acres of tree cover, or 5% of its total, according to Global Forest Watch. Road construction plays a significant role in that deforestation, both directly and indirectly: A study of 332 native lands in the Amazon found for every mile of road built, about 14 acres of forest are lost. To minimize that destruction, Kara Solar invests in what it describes as the “ancestral highways” of the rainforest: rivers. By pairing nature’s pre-built infrastructure with solar energy, it aims to improve community livelihoods with minimal environmental impact. Getting residents’ buy-in has been crucial for Kara Solar. The project began with a decade of discussions with Achuar communities before the first solar boat set sail and has been gaining favour since. “Every single day I was driving the boat, everyone was asking me for help,” says Luciano, a 27-year-old Achuar boat operator trained by Kara Solar. “They said, ‘I need to go to my farm. I need to visit my parents. I need to go for medical treatment.’” Currently, solar boats are slower than gas-powered ones, leading many to prefer the latter for urgent matters. However, Kara Solar expects that reliability will improve with further technological advances. 4. Why is the students’ daily school run special? A. It allows for trading with people on the way. B. It features eco-friendly boats as transportation. C. It involves travelling through the expanding rainforests. D. It requires students to get up early in the morning. 5. What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about? A. The negative impact of road building on Ecuador. B. The history of Ecuador’s infrastructure development. C. The importance of protecting the eco-system in Ecuador. D. The related studies on monitoring Ecuador’s tree cover loss. 6. Why does the author mention Luciano’s words? A. To show the commitment of Kara Solar to the project. B. To demonstrate the daily routine of a trained operator. C. To suggest the inconvenience of the local transportation. D. To highlight people’s positive response to the solar boats. 7. What is a challenge faced by Kara Solar currently? A. The less than ideal speed of solar boats. B. Resistance from some community members. C. The higher cost of solar boats than gas-powered ones. D. Insufficient funding for further technological advances. C A study, led by University of Essex and University of Chicago, found that employees in remote settings generate fewer and lower-quality innovative ideas compared to those working full-time in the office. The findings also apply to those in hybrid settings where employees get the best of both worlds, spending some days in the office and some at home. While remote and hybrid working arrangements can enhance employees’ work-life balance, many business leaders have voiced concerns over innovation suffering with these new work modes. Interestingly, the CEO of Zoom, the leading online communication application, recently required employees work more from the office, specifically mentioning a decline in innovation. The new research finds their concerns seem to stand on solid ground. “Innovation in the workplace can occur through random, informal ‘watercooler’ conversations between employees, such as when they are chatting over coffee time,” explained lead researcher Dr. Christoph Siemroth. “However, these ‘productive accidents’ are unlikely to occur when employees work from home.” The study followed over 48,000 employees from an Indian IT company, which has taken significant steps such as offering financial rewards to promote a culture where all employees see innovation as a key part of their job. The employees write up ideas about process improvements, cost-saving measures, or new products, which are then evaluated by the company. While the quantity of ideas didn’t change during the working from home period compared to working in the office, the quality of ideas suffered. During the later hybrid period, the quantity of submitted ideas fell and innovation suffered, particularly in teams which did not schedule when they worked at the office or from home. The findings imply that companies should take steps to regulate when employees are in the office. Innovation does not work well if half the team is in on Mondays while the other half is in on Wednesdays. Instead, set days when the whole team are expected in the office. While this limits the flexibility of hybrid work, research suggests that innovation benefits as a result. 8. What do the underlined words “stand on solid ground” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Need solid proof. B. Be hard to believe. C. Be easy to understand. D. Have good reasons. 9. What contributes to workplace innovation according to Dr. Christoph Siemroth? A. Favorable and relaxing company culture. B. Unplanned interaction among employees. C. Access to workplace facilities and resources. D. Professional training in promoting productivity. 10. What can we learn about workplace innovation from the study? A. Remote workers generated ideas of high quality. B. Financial rewards could greatly boost innovation. C. The hybrid work mode delivered unsatisfying results. D. Working modes had no impact on the number of ideas. 11. What is suggested for companies to improve innovation in the last paragraph? A. Allow more flexibility in work schedules. B. Encourage team work over individual work. C. Require full-time office work for all employees. D. Arrange time for collective presence of employees. D How did a tiny ant manage to take a lion’s dinner? This isn’t the start of an Aesop’s fable; rather, it’s the outcome of a study published on January 25 in Science, showing how a small disturbance in one helpful relationship on the African grasslands can spread through the ecosystem, ultimately reaching even the lion’s den (穴). Over the past 15 years, wildlife ecologist Jake Goheen and his team at the University of Wyoming, working with the Ol Pejeta Wildlife Reserve in Kenya, have studied how acacia ants protect whistling thorn trees from being eaten. When elephants attempt to feed on these trees, the ants rush into the elephants’ nostrils (鼻腔), biting and stinging, which forces them to back away, Goheen explains. Between 2002 and 2005, however, the reserve was invaded by the big-headed ant, an aggressive non-native species that likely arrived in the area through imported produce brought to nearby homes or tourist camps. These ants quickly overpowered and pushed out the local acacia ants. Without these native defenders, elephants and other large plant-eating animals damaged the thorn trees five to seven times more frequently than before. In a parallel study, Goheen’s team examined the hunting behaviour of lions in the reserve. They tracked six lionesses, observing their activity and kill rates, and measured visibility around recent kills. They found that areas populated by big-headed ants had 2.67 times greater visibility than those without — meaning lions could see their prey (猎物) farther away, but so could the prey see the lions. As visibility increased, the lions’ chances of successfully catching zebras fell from 62% to just 22%. Yet the lions did not starve; instead, they adapted their diet, turning to buffalo as a primary prey, which rose from 0% to 42% of their kills. “Buffalo are large and aggressive,” Goheen notes, “so this is a high-risk choice of prey.” Goheen’s study provides a valuable insight into how ecologists should carefully observe helpful pairs like the acacia ants and thorn trees, where even a small change in one relationship can spread widely, drastically impacting the food web and altering which animals eat which. 12. What did Goheen’s team study for 15 years? A. Arrival of big-headed ants in Kenya. B. Defense of thorn trees by acacia ants. C. Effect of imported produce on habitats. D. Movement of elephants across grasslands. 13. Why did elephants harm thorn trees more often? A. Local ants were replaced. B. Thorn trees spread widely. C. Trees became more visible. D. Other plant-eaters appeared. 14. What impact did increased visibility have on lions? A. It made hunting buffalo easier. B. It helped them avoid risky prey. C. It reduced their zebra catch rates. D. It improved their hiding from prey. 15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. The Ant vs. the Elephant: In Unity There Is Strength B. African Grasslands: A Land of Mysterious Interactions C. How an Invasive Ant Changed a Lion’s Dinner Menu? D. How Big-headed Ants Climbed to the Top of the Food Chain? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Study Effectively Studying efficiently is key to achieving your academic goals. She loved her role as a mother, but she often felt consumed by it, like her life would never return to normal. One day, when her baby was about three months old, she decided that her whole family — her husband, her two young boys and her new baby boy — should get out of the house and go to a restaurant. They tumbled out of the car, ready with a diaper (尿布) bag, books for the kids to read, a seat for the baby and bags of snacks. As soon as they stepped onto the curb, her baby was ready to nurse again, and Berne knew she had to get inside. “I was already feeling pretty shaky,” she recalled. “So we all pile into the restaurant. We’re very messy; we’re very loud.” Her baby thrashed (剧烈扭动) around as she tried to nurse him under a blanket, and she worried he was about to cry. Berne began to feel hopeless. “I was feeling a little teary-eyed because, although we were doing it, this was really hard.” A short time later, her unsung hero appeared: an older woman, who reminded Berne of her own mum. This woman came up and stood there and looked at them. And Berne was sort of preparing that she was gonna say how cute the baby was. Instead, the woman took them all in. She said admiringly, “What a beautiful family.” Then she looked at Berne’s two young boys, ages 6 and 3, sitting quietly on Berne’s side of the table. And she said, “It’s not easy to sit at a table for a long time.” The woman saw her older children in a way few people seemed to, now that they were no longer in the infant (婴儿) stage. “Nobody ever noticed them anymore,” Berne recalled. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then the woman turned to Berne. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Nearly 10 years later, Berne is still moved by the woman’s thoughtfulness. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 天水一中2026~2027学年度第一学期高三第二次月考 英语 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. D 7. 【答案】8. 【答案】12. B 13. A 14. C 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Then the woman turned to Berne. And she said, “Look at you, Mum. You’re doing such a good job. It must be very challenging to raise the three children. You are so great.” Berne felt very grateful to her warm words, tears in her eyes. She brightened up at her words of encouragement. The woman brought out a box of chocolates from her bag and gave them to the children, who were excited at the sweets. Berne was too moved to say anything to express her gratitude. Then the woman gently patted on Berne’s shoulder, gave them one last smile, and left on the street. Nearly 10 years later, Berne is still moved by the woman’s thoughtfulness. And she has often recalled it with friends and family. If she could speak to the woman now, this is what she would say, “Thank you for seeing all of us. And thank you for seeing me. Me, someone who wasn’t often seen during these early days, and someone who was sometimes feeling pretty invisible. And I have never forgotten it.” Now her children have grown up, and her life has become better than before. When Berne meets other women struggling to get out with kids, she often says some warm words to them, just like what the older woman talked to her. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿出:bring out/take out ②表达:express/convey ③回忆:recall/recollect ④轻拍:pat/tap 情绪类 ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】[高分句型1]The woman brought out a box of chocolates from her bag and gave them to the children, who were excited at the sweets.(运用了who引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2]When Berne meets other women struggling to get out with kids, she often says some warm words to them, just like what the older woman talked to her.(运用了when引导时间状语从句和what引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
