My Rewarding Experience as a Cashier
Last weekend, our school held an activity named Career Experience Day, in which I chose to work as a supermarket cashier.
At first, I felt nervous, faced with various goods and long-waiting customers. I scanned items slowly and even made small mistakes in calculating prices. Under the senior cashier’s patient guidance, I gradually mastered quick scanning and polite communication skills. After hours of continuous standing and repetitive work, I finally finished my simple task smoothly.
This experience makes me realize hard work lies behind every career, and that all jobs deserve respect.
第二节
Kaylee restarted the car and headed for the nearest highway exit. After getting off the highway, she hurried to check on Kian, whose face was still pale and who was breathing unsteadily. Having known how crucial the interview was to Kaylee, Kian advised her to book another ride online to Chicago immediately to attend her interview while he drove himself to the nearby hospital for treatment. He added that he could handle his medical problem alone and hoped she would not miss this precious job opportunity. Kaylee listened quietly, hesitation flashing across her face for a second.
Ignoring Kian’s advice that she rebook a ride for her interview, Kaylee drove him to hospital. On arrival, she rushed to find a nurse, explained Kian’s symptoms, and waited until a doctor assured her that Kian would be fine. Kian, now lying on a bed, grabbed her hand and thanked her with teary eyes. “You sacrificed your interview for a stranger,” he whispered. Kaylee just smiled, replying that personal health came before everything. Just then, her phone rang — the company had rescheduled her interview for the next day after hearing her emergency call to them. Sometimes, kindness circles back when you least expect it.

Text 1
M: Hi, what are you doing here?
W: Fixing my bike chain. It keeps making terrible noises. I tried to fix it myself but failed.
M: The noisy chain usually needs some oil. Maybe you should turn to the repair shop down the street.
Text 2
W: You’re late for the team meeting! What happened, James?
M: Sorry, on the way to the meeting, I happened to meet a woman whose leg was seriously injured when she fell off her motorbike. I sent her to the hospital.
Text 3
M: The community center is collecting used books.
W: Really? I have a whole box of books. Do they take all kinds?
M: Mostly books for kids. No textbooks or fiction.
Text 4
M: The Maple Road is closed today. But I have to get to the station at 6:00 pm.
W: Well, it usually takes 20 minutes to get there if you take the Maple Road. Just take Apple Avenue, and it’ll add 15 minutes to your trip.
Text 5
W: Hey, is there a market at Central Park this weekend?
M: Actually, it’s a fair. It runs Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
W: Great! I’m looking for a decorative painting.
M: You’ll likely find one. Admission is free.
Text 6
W: Good morning, Dave! I didn’t expect to see anyone here so early.
M: I come daily for tai chi. It keeps me calm.
W: I’ve tried to make it a habit, but it is hard.
M: I get it. Well, what works for me is starting with just five minutes. Once you begin, it feels easier.
W: I think I’ll give it a try tomorrow morning. Now I’ll play soft music to calm me down.
Text 7
W: Excuse me, may I see your fishing permit?
M: I’m afraid I’ve left it at home as I cleaned my car yesterday.
W: In that case, you’ll have to show it at the river management office within three days. You’re fishing in a protected area. No fishing along this entire river bank.
M: But I only caught one small fish! Besides, I didn’t see a sign.
W: See, over there! We’d been watching you from the bridge.
M: So you saw me release it back.
W: Yes. That’s why you just got a warning.
Text 8
M: I’d like to buy a new laptop. What’s your opinion, Lisa?
W: Didn’t you buy a new one just one year ago? I do think getting another one so soon is wasteful.
M: But everyone at the design studio has a high performance model, and I feel a little out of place. I handed you my bonus last week, remember?
W: I don’t think spending your bonus on a new laptop is a good idea. Our neighbor Mark bought an expensive car in his first working year and now is struggling to pay the rent on his house.
M: Well, you make a point. I don’t want to end up in financial trouble like him.
Text 9
M: Hello, everyone! Today we have Maria Lopez here. Hi, Maria, please tell us about your new project.
W: Well, it’s a wooden box. It costs around $25 to make, and we sell it at cost — just $25.
M: That’s affordable. How does it work?
W: You can buy the seeds and soil online, then build the box yourself by following our video guides. I want to show that growing vegetables at home is achievable. If you have experience, it takes less than an hour to set up, and even beginners can finish within a day.
M: What inspired you to create this project?
W: I was sad to see many families struggle to buy fresh vegetables. The project uses recycled wood and requires little space, so anyone can grow their own food.
M: Great! Thank you for your time, Maria.

The Fields Medal is often described as the Nobel Prize in mathematics. Proposed by Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields, it was first awarded in 1936 at the International Congress of Mathematicians. It was suspended during World War Ⅱ but started again in 1950. From then on, it has been given every four years. In 1966, two important changes were made: The number of winners went up from two to four, and it was made clear that winners must be under 40. Unlike the Nobel Prize, it recognizes outstanding existing achievements as well as promising future research potential. The Fields Medal honors creative breakthroughs across various branches of pure mathematics and encourages young talents to keep exploring unknown mathematical frontiers. Chinese mathematicians Hong Wang and Yu Deng, together with two other scholars, won the Fields Medal in 2026. This is the first time that Chinese nationals have received this award. Before Wang and Deng, the Chinese-American mathematician Shing-Tung Yau also won the Fields Medal in 1982.

In 1916, the world's first self-service grocery store自助式杂货店 Piggly Wiggly opened in Memphis,Tennessee. Today, the chain连锁企业 has more than 530 stores across 17 states, according to its website. Its founding is one of the strangest stories in the history of retail(零售).But its founder Clarence Saunders was clearly onto something摸到了门道、找对了路子-today, self-service grocery stores are the norm /nɔːm/,n.
For the store's opening ceremonies/ˈserəməni/,n. 典礼;仪式, according to Mike Freeman, writing for the Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Saunders promised to hold a contest for women, which he advertised in local newspapers. “At the door, Saunders shook their hands and gave their children flowers and balloons,” Freeman writes.“Newspaper reporters posing as冒充;假装 contest judges awarded five- and ten-dollar gold coins to every woman. A band played music for the visitors.”
This enthusiastic /ɪnˌθjuːziˈæstɪk/,adj. 热情的;热心的greeting was necessary because Saunders was trying something completely new. Before Piggly Wiggly, groceries were sold at stores where a clerk would collect your order for you, weighing out按量称重 dry goods from large barrels(桶).Even chain stores used clerks. Although the chain store model helped keep costs down, the small army of 一小批clerks necessary to fill orders was expensive, and at least part of that cost was passed on to the consumer.
Saunders's model cut costs by cutting out the clerks. “Shoppers on that first day did see some employees stocking shelves,” Freeman writes, “but they politely refused to select goods for visitors.” Just like today, a shopper picked up a basket(though Piggly Wiggly's baskets were made of wood, not plastic) and went through the store to purchase everything.By the end of that first year, there were nine Piggly Wiggly locations around Memphis.“One day Memphis shall be proud of Piggly Wiggly,” Saunders said a few months after the store's opening.
As for the name, nobody knows. “He was curiously unwilling to explain its origin,”Piggly Wiggly's corporate /ˈkɔːrpərət/公司的history reports.
24. What do we know about Piggly Wiggly from paragraph 1?
A. It serves special groups.
B.It runs few branches.
C. It arises from old retail.
D.It enjoys broad influence
25. What did Saunders do for Piggly Wiggly's launch?
A. He invited famous judges.
B.He hired Freeman to report it.
C. He offered visitors varied gifts.
D. He sold customers cheap products.
26.What placed a burden on traditional shops?
A. Remote shop sites.
B.High staff expenses
C. Short supply 供应短缺of goods.
D.Complex pricing rules
27. Which of the following best describes Saunders?
A.Confident. B. Cautious. C.Innovative /ˈɪnəveɪtɪv/,adj. D.Proud.

Forest farming is a way to put forested areas on your property to good use by growing edible(adj. 可食用的)and medicinal(adj. 药用的,有疗效的) plants that prefer wooded(adj. It’s an ideal way to use spaces that might be written off(短语:把…看作无用而放弃) as useless because you can’t build raised beds(名词短语:高架苗床,垫高苗床) for tomatoes or dig rows for sweetcorn.
But there’re plants that excel(v. 擅长,胜过) in the low-light, more natural conditions of the woods. They can not only be collected, but they can be planted and tended to照顾,照料, so you never deplete(v. 耗尽,用尽) your favorite forest foods like huckleberries(n. Prefer medicinal ingredients? Goldenseal(n. 金印草(一种药用植物)) and black cohosh(名词短语:黑升麻(一种药用植物)) also grow well in the forest, including in wooded areas in your backyard.
It’s an alternative(adj. 另外的,可供选择的) farming practice that just makes sense for Laurel River Club Bed and Breakfast in Jennings, West Virginia. Here, some 150 acres(n. 英亩) of the farm are forest. Property Manager Marsha Waybright was determined(adj. 下决心的,坚定的) to make the most of 充分利用all of it, so she started growing plants in the rich wooded areas. She even started offering hands-on(adj. 亲自动手的,实践性的) tours to guests to teach them how to identify(v. 识别,辨认) and make use of( some of the plants found on the property.
The benefit of forest farming is free food picked in your own backyard. But there’s more to it than that. “All landowners need to manage their land for non-native(adj. 非本土的,外来的) species and use best management practices, or you’re going to basically have an unhealthy landscape(n. 景观,自然环境) with reduced natural resource benefits. The management aspect of forest farming is what separates it from foraging(野外采食) and can help boost(v. 促进,增加) the numbers of these sought-after(adj. 广受欢迎的,抢手的) plants, so you’re giving back(短语:回馈,回报) to the land instead of just taking,” said Gary Wyatt, a forestry expert.
Forest farming also offers financial benefits. The types of plants you can raise in the woods can also be high-value(adj. Growing them can save you cash on products you already buy or potentially turn into a fun small sideline(n. But if you’re looking for more income or a get-rich-quick(adj. 捷径), this probably isn’t going to be the thing.
28. What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Show interest in.
B. Keep pace with(短语:与…
C. Make up for(短语:弥补,补偿).
D. Run out of(短语:用完,耗尽).
29. What did Marsha do on the farm?
A. She guided plant-themed(adj.
B. She developed large farm lands.
C. She built new modern gardens.
D. She trained professional farmers.
30. What benefit can forest farming bring according to Gary?
A. Avoiding local land transfer(n./v.
B. Expanding open wooded spaces.
C. Forming conservation awareness.
D. Offering most daily necessities(n.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards forest farming’s economic value?
A. Disapproving(adj.
B. Objective(adj.
C. Doubtful.
D. Unclear.

加入高岭土之后,瓷坯可以承受 1300℃以上高温,烧制不容易变形;
(Maritime Silk Road)
景德镇:千年瓷都,古代全国制瓷中心,世界瓷器的标杆,国际瓷器标准的源头,对应文中the international standard of porcelain has deep, solid roots and has not emerged out of thin air(国际瓷器标准不是凭空而来,根基深厚)。
大量海外瓷器爱好者、收藏家专门来到高岭古矿遗址参观考察,就是文中countless porcelain enthusiasts from around the world。
For centuries, the word kaolin has been closely connected to porcelain /ˈpɔːsəlɪn/(n. 瓷器) worldwide. For Dutch /dʌtʃ/(adj. 荷兰的) porcelain collector (n. 收藏家) Marc van Hevel, however, it's more than just不仅仅是 a term; it serves as充当,作为 his guiding compass /ˈkʌmpəs/(n. Drawn (v. 吸引,利用) by the name's origin /ˈɒrɪdʒɪn/(n. 起源), Hevel visited Gaoling Village, where kaolin was first discovered and whose name is highly similar to the word kaolin.
In Gaoling, he collected samples /ˈsɑːmpl/(n. 样本 v. 采集) from different mineral /ˈmɪnərəl/(n. 矿物 adj. 矿物的) layer /ˈleɪə(r)/(n. 层,层次), bringing them back to his studio /ˈstjuːdiəʊ/(n. 工作室) to analyze /ˈænəlaɪz/(v. 分析) their structure /ˈstrʌktʃə(r)/(n. He said that in Europe, kaolin is simply found in bottles or bags. But in Jingdezhen, visitors can see the ancient mining sites firsthand 亲眼看见/ˌfɜːstˈhænd/(adv. 亲身地,直接地) and truly understand that the international standard of porcelain has deep, solid /ˈsɒlɪd/(adj. 坚实的,牢固的) roots and has not emerge /ɪˈmɜːdʒ/(v. 出现,浮现) out of thin air.
- collect samples from 从……
- bring … back to 把……
- have deep solid roots
- emerge out of thin air
Hevel is certainly not the first to enjoy this experience. Up to now, the ancient mining site矿区 has attracted countless porcelain enthusiast /ɪnˈθjuːziæst/(n. 爱好者) from around the world to Gaoling. The mine, which cease /siːs/(v. 停止,中止) operation /ˌɒpəˈreɪʃn/(n. 运营,运作) in 1965, stands as remarkably /rɪˈmɑːkəbli/(adv. 显著地,非常) clear evidence of a thousand years of open-source wisdom开源式智慧 in China's porcelain industry.
· up to now 直到现在(现在完成时标志)
· stand as 作为……;是
· evidence of … …… 的证据
More than 700 years ago, people at the mining site first mixed kaolin with porcelain stone in accurate /ˈækjərət/(adj. This formula /ˈfɔːmjələ/(n. 配方;公式) allows the clay /kleɪ/(n. 黏土) mixture /ˈmɪkstʃə(r)/(n. 混合物) to resist /rɪˈzɪst/(v. 抵抗;抗) high temperatures above 1,300 °C without deform /dɪˈfɔːm/(v. Rather than keeping its secrets, Jingdezhen encouraged the spread of its techniques. Armed with拥有;配备有 this formula, Chinese porcelain — known for its smooth, refined /rɪˈfaɪnd/(adj. 精致的) beauty — has made its way around the world走向世界各地 along the Maritime Silk Road.

Finding a parking space in crowded downtown areas has become a daily source of annoyance for millions of city drivers. A three-layer “guidance-reservation-payment” smart parking system has recently been developed, whose structure can be illustrated by the diagram below showing how each layer communicates with the central platform.
Structure Diagram of Smart Parking Navigation System
Layer Core
Equipment
Main Function
Sensing
Ground-based magnetic (磁) sensors
Record whether a single parking bay is occupied or empty: update status every 30 seconds
Processing
AI-driven traffic servers
Analyze historical occupancy patterns; predict availability for the next 60 minutes
User Interface
Mobile direction apps with voice guidance
Reserve a spot remotely’ guide drivers directly to the exact bay without unnecessary searching
The diagram places the central cloud platform at the core, to which three functional layers (sensing, processing, and user interface) are connected. Each layer collects or sends data independently, yet all information flows ultimately towards the platform for real-time coordination (协同).
In practical operation, the sensing layer continuously reports real-time occupancy data, while the processing layer anticipates short-term shifts such as spots becoming free after movie showtime or dinner rushes. The interface layer then displays this combined information on a smartphone screen, allowing drivers to compare pricing, distance, and time limits among several nearby garages (车库) within seconds.
This technology has significantly reduced average parking search time by nearly 43% in pilot cities, lowering both carbon emissions from unnecessary driving and the likelihood of traffic conflicts near crowded garages — a win-win outcome that urban planners are now racing to expand to more districts.
21. What device forecasts parking changes?
A. AI traffic servers. B. Ground magnetic sensors.
C. Voice guide software. D. Cloud storage devices.
22. What can we say about the parking system?
A. It still needs major improvement. B. It reserves a spot by the sensing layer.
C. It can cause extra parking charges. D. It may gain popularity in the near future.
23. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To advertise. B. To introduce. C. To educate. D. To entertain.

In 1916, the world’s first self-service grocery store Piggly Wiggly opened in Memphis, Tennessee. Today, the chain has more than 530 stores across 17 states, according to its website. Its founding is one of the strangest stories in the history of retail (零售). But its founder Clarence Saunders was clearly onto something — today, self-service grocery stores are the norm.
For the store’s opening ceremonies, according to Mike Freeman, writing for the Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Saunders promised to hold a contest for women, which he advertised in local newspapers. “At the door, Saunders shook their hands and gave their children flowers and balloons,” Freeman writes. “Newspaper reporters posing as contest judges awarded five-and ten-dollar gold coins to every woman. A band played music for the visitors.”
This enthusiastic greeting was necessary because Saunders was trying something completely new. Before Piggly Wiggly, groceries were sold at stores where a clerk would collect your order for you, weighing out dry goods from large barrels (桶). Even chain stores used clerks. Although the chain store model helped keep costs down, the small army of clerks necessary to fill orders was expensive, and at least part of that cost was passed on to the consumer.
Saunders’s model cut costs by cutting out the clerks. “Shoppers on that first day did see some employees stocking shelves,” Freeman writes, “but they politely refused to select goods for visitors.” Just like today, a shopper picked up a basket (though Piggly Wiggly’s baskets were made of wood, not plastic) and went through the store to purchase everything. By the end of that first year, there were nine Piggly Wiggly locations around Memphis. “One day Memphis shall be proud of Piggly Wiggly,” Saunders said a few months after the store’s opening.
As for the name, nobody knows. “He was curiously unwilling to explain its origin,” Piggly Wiggly’s corporate history reports.
24. What do we know about Piggly Wiggly from paragraph 1?
A. It serves special groups. B. It runs few branches.
C. It arises from old retail. D. It enjoys broad influence.
25. What did Saunders do for Piggly Wiggly’s launch?
A. He invited famous judges. B. He hired Freeman to report it.
C. He offered visitors varied gifts. D. He sold customers cheap products.
26. What placed a burden on traditional shops?
A. Remote shop sites. B. High staff expenses.
C. Short supply of goods. D. Complex pricing rules.
27. Which of the following best describes Saunders?
A. Confident. B. Cautious. C. Innovative. D. Proud.

Forest farming is a way to put forested areas on your property to good use by growing edible (可食用的) and medicinal plants that prefer wooded settings to traditional garden plots. It’s an ideal way to use spaces that might be written off as useless because you can’t build raised beds for tomatoes or dig rows for sweetcorn.
But there’re plants that excel in the low-light, more natural conditions of the woods. They can not only be collected, but they can be planted and tended to, so you never deplete your favorite forest foods like huckleberries and mushrooms. Prefer medicinal ingredients? Goldenseal and black cohosh also grow well in the forest, including in wooded areas in your backyard.
It’s an alternative farming practice that just makes sense for Laurel River Club Bed and Breakfast in Jenningston, West Virginia. Here, some 150 acres of the farm are forest. Property Manager Marsha Waybright was determined to make the most of all of it, so she started growing plants in the rich wooded areas. She even started offering hands-on tours to guests to teach them how to identify and make use of some of the plants found on the property.
The benefit of forest farming is free food picked in your own backyard. But there’s more to it than that. “All landowners need to manage their land for non-native species and use best management practices, or you’re going to basically have an unhealthy landscape with reduced natural resource benefits. The management aspect of forest farming is what separates it from foraging (野外采食) and can help boost the numbers of these sought-after plants, so you’re giving back to the land instead of just taking,” said Gary Wyatt, a forestry expert.
Forest farming also offers financial benefits. The types of plants you can raise in the woods can also be high-value ingredients. Growing them can save you cash on products you already buy or potentially turn into a fun small sideline. But if you’re looking for more income or a get-rich-quick shortcut, this probably isn’t going to be the thing.
28. What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Show interest in. B. Keep pace with. C. Make up for. D. Run out of.
29. What did Marsha do on the farm?
A. She guided plant-themed tours. B. She developed large farm lands.
C. She built new modern gardens. D. She trained professional farmers.
30. What benefit can forest farming bring according to Gary?
A. Avoiding local land transfer. B. Expanding open wooded spaces.
C. Forming conservation awareness. D. Offering most daily necessities.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards forest farming’s economic value?
A. Disapproving. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.

A team at Johns Hopkins University has created the whole-brain organoids (类器官).
Made from human cell sources, these lab-grown cultures function as basic “minds” that do not have consciousness but keep basic mental functions like memory and learning. Such demonstrations aren’t intended to simply be impressive laboratory tricks — these neuronal (神经元) cell masses could kick-start a new era of disease research and treatment, brain computer interfaces, and even wholly novel forms of artificial organoid intelligence. For years, however, the field of study has been limited by an absence of complexity. “Most brain organoids that you see in papers are one brain region,” biomedical engineer and study lead author Annie Kathuria said. Ideally, Kathuria and her team would observe every region of the brain interacting with each other. But that’s easier said than done.
“We need to study models with human cells if we want to understand neurodevelopmental disorders or neuropsychiatric disorders, but I can’t ask a person to let me look at their brain just to study the disease like autism,” said Kathuria. “Whole-brain organoids let us watch disorders develop in real time, see if treatments work, and even tailor treatments to individual patients.” After years of experimentation, Kathuria and her team became one of the world’s first teams to grow what they call a multi-region brain organoid (MRBO) that includes interconnected, functional tissues from each region of the human brain.
These MRBOs are much smaller than a human brain. But with 80% of the cells normally seen in early fetal (胎儿) brain development, they offer an exceptional opportunity for analysis. For example, using MRBOs in experimental drug trials could help improve success rates. According to the team, 85% — 90% of all medications fail during Phase 1 clinical trials — a rate that nears 96% for neuropsychiatric drugs. The fact is that most researchers currently rely on animal models during early development stages. Replacing lab rats with whole-brain organoids that look more like a natural human brain will likely offer quicker, better results.
32. What is a long-term weakness of previous brain organoids?
A. They feature fixed cell shapes. B. They belong to laboratory tricks.
C. They possess short service life. D. They lack inter-regional cooperation.
33. Why do scientists use brain organoids according to paragraph 3?
A. To avoid ethical troubles. B. To create new human cells.
C. To replace old lab tests. D. To simplify drug development.
34. What does the author illustrate about MRBOs by mentioning the statistics?
A. Their cell sources. B. Their working principle. C. Their significance. D. Their complexity.
35. Which is the best title for the text?
A. Animal Models to Organoids: A Shift B. Whole-Brain Organoids: A New Era
C. One Region to Whole Brain: A Leap D. Lab-Grown Brain: A Big Breakthrough

Over centuries, from ancient murals (壁画) to contemporary installations (装置), public art has shaped collective identity. Unlike paintings limited to galleries or statues in museums, outdoor art is freely accessible. 36 Cities worldwide increasingly use this power not merely to beautify but to lift community spirits, honor historical memory, and draw attention to ecological threats.
Consider the Las Palmitas neighborhood in Pachuca, Mexico, where residents partnered with a street art group to paint their hillside homes in bright, colorful designs. What began as a modest proposal grew into a massive mural visible from afar, covering dozens of houses. 37 Locals reported that the bright colors lifted their spirits each morning. One resident remarked, “Every morning you wake up, see the colors that surround you, and it makes you feel good.”
Public art can also send a powerful message. 38 For example, British artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper created a striking installation by placing 888,246 handmade red flowers around the Tower of London. This temporary display represented the British people who died during World War I, inviting people to reflect on history in a meaningful way.
39 Icelandic artist Bjargey Olafsdottir created Red Polar Bear measuring 80 meters by 50 meters on the Langjokull glacier (冰川) in Iceland. It showed the red outline of a polar bear on the snow. Olafsdottir wanted to make people think about the polar bear and how its environment is in danger because of global warming. Many people stopped to view this huge outdoor artwork every day. 40
A. Many works highlight political and social issues.
B. The collaborative process brought unexpected joy.
C. Art in the open can also make people aware of the situation.
D. It invites everyone to share a visual experience without cost.
E. Indeed, it urged people to consider their own carbon footprint.
F. The project demonstrated how art can help people gain confidence.
G. When you hear the word art, you might imagine paintings in galleries.

For centuries, the word kaolin has been closely connected to porcelain (瓷器) worldwide. For Dutch porcelain 56 (collect) Marc van Hevel, however, it’s more than just 57 term; it serves as his guiding compass. Drawn by the name’s origins, Hevel visited Gaoling Village, 58 kaolin was first discovered and whose name is highly similar to the word kaolin.
In Gaoling, he collected 59 (sample) from different mineral layers, bringing them back to his studio to analyze their structures. He said that in Europe, kaolin is simply found in bottles or bags. But in Jingdezhen, visitors can see the ancient mining sites firsthand 60 truly understand that the international standard of porcelain has deep, solid roots and has not emerged out of thin air.
Hevel is certainly not the first 61 (enjoy) this experience. Up to now, the ancient mining site 62 (attract) countless porcelain enthusiasts from around the world to Gaoling. The mine, which ceased operations in 1965, stands as 63 (remarkable) clear evidence of a thousand years of open-source wisdom in China’s porcelain industry.
More than 700 years ago, people at the mining site first mixed kaolin with porcelain stone in 64 (accuracy) proportions. This formula (配方) allows the clay mixture to resist high temperatures above 1,300℃ without deforming. Rather than keeping its secrets, Jingdezhen encouraged the spread of its techniques. Armed with this formula, Chinese porcelain — 65 (know) for its smooth, refined beauty — has made its way around the world along the Maritime Silk Road.

One sunny afternoon, 25-year-old Kaylee had to rush from the city she lived in to Chicago for a job interview. It meant a great deal to her, as she had been out of work for two years, so she booked a ride online.
The driver, Kian, a middle-aged gentleman, greeted her warmly and started the trip smoothly. The highway traffic was steady. Kaylee enjoyed the green roadside scenery outside the window as she chatted casually with Kian. She told him about her life over the past few years and explained why she was heading to Chicago.
Halfway through the journey, an unexpected crisis struck. Kian suddenly gave a painful low cry and leaned forward weakly, his hands shaking violently on the steering wheel (方向盘). The car began to shake uncontrollably, drifting slowly towards the fast lane (快车道), where several cars were speeding by. Kaylee’s heart skipped a beat, and fear flashed through her mind, but she forced herself to stay calm instead of panicking.
She had held a driving license for years and was quite familiar with highway driving. In a firm voice, she asked Kian about his condition. Kian breathed heavily, saying he suffered from a sudden severe stomachache and could barely control himself. Realizing the critical danger, Kaylee made a quick decision. She guided Kian to hold the steering wheel temporarily, slowly pulled over the car to the safe emergency lane, and stopped the vehicle steadily.
After ensuring safety, Kaylee comforted the sweating Kian softly, telling him to relax and not worry about the car. Considering Kian’s pain was getting worse by the minute, she decided to take over the wheel. Kaylee brought up the idea to Kian, saying she would take the nearest highway exit so that he could go to a local hospital to see a doctor. She carefully helped Kian move to the passenger seat, adjusted the seat for him to lie down comfortably, and then called the company where she was going for the interview to explain what had happened.
