In many Chinese cities, rows of colourful shared bikes stand along the streets. They have become part of daily life for millions of people. Han Mei, a middle school student in Jinan, rides one to school every morning. “It takes me only ten minutes,” she says, “and it costs less than two yuan.”
Using a shared bike is easy. What you need is a smartphone. First, scan the QR code (二维码) on the bike, and the lock opens by itself. When you arrive, you park the bike in a proper place and lock it again. The money is paid through the phone, so you never need to carry cash.
Why are shared bikes so popular? For short trips they are cheap and convenient. A bike can even be faster than a car, because cars often get stuck in traffic. What is more, riding is good exercise, and it does not produce any pollution.
However, there are problems, too. Some people leave the bikes everywhere: on the pavement (人行道) or in front of shop doors. Some bikes are broken or thrown into rivers. Now many cities have made new rules, and some companies send workers to put the bikes back in the right places. City life becomes nicer when everyone follows the rules.
1. What does Han Mei need in order to use a shared bike?
A. A bus card. B. A smartphone. C. A special key. D. A paper ticket.
2. Why can a shared bike be faster than a car for a short trip?
A. Because bikes are much lighter.
B. Because cars often get stuck in traffic.
C. Because there are no traffic rules for bikes.
D. Because drivers must stop for bikes.
3. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to repair a broken bike.
B. A new way of travelling in cities.
C. Why cars are no longer useful.
D. The history of the bicycle.
B
Last term, Li Hua, a ninth-grader in a small town, had a problem with his English. He could not understand a long article in his textbook, and nobody at home could explain it to him. Then his teacher told the class about a new study app. Li Hua took a photo of the article, and the app explained the difficult sentences in simple Chinese and gave him three questions to check his understanding.
“It is like having a patient teacher who never gets tired,” Li Hua said. Within a month, his reading score went up by ten points.
Thousands of students across the country are now using such AI tools. They help with maths problems, correct writing mistakes, and even make a study plan for the coming week. For students in small towns and villages, these tools are especially helpful, because good teachers and learning materials are not always easy to find.
However, teachers have also noticed some problems. Some students simply copy the answers the app gives them. They finish their homework quickly, but they learn very little. Others use the app so often that they stop thinking on their own. “AI can give you an answer in one second,” said one teacher, “but it cannot give you the ability to think”. So how should students use these tools? Most experts say that AI works best when it helps us do something instead of doing everything for us. We may ask it to explain a sentence, to give an example, or to check our work, but we should always try by ourselves first. After all, the purpose of study is not to finish homework, but to make our minds stronger.
4. Why are AI study tools especially helpful to students in small towns and villages?
A. Because they have more free time.
B. Because good teachers and learning materials are not always easy to find there.
C. Because their schools have no textbooks.
D. Because they cannot go to school.
5. What problem does the teacher mention in Paragraph 4?
A. The app often gives wrong answers.
B. The app is too expensive for most families.
C. Some students copy the answers and learn little.
D. Homework becomes too difficult for students.
6. What does the teacher mean by “it cannot give you the ability to think”?
A. AI is not clever enough to answer questions.
B. An answer from AI cannot make your mind stronger.
C. Students should never use AI at all.
D. Thinking is less important than answers.
7. What does the writer advise students to do?
A. Ask AI to do their homework for them.
B. Let AI make all their study plans.
C. Try by themselves first and use AI as a helper.
D. Stop using AI completely.
C
You open a short-video app just to watch one funny clip. Ten minutes later you look up, and two hours have gone. You cannot even remember most of what you have seen. Does this sound familiar?
This is not simply a problem of self-control. Short videos are carefully designed to hold our attention. Most of them last only fifteen to sixty seconds, with bright colours, quick cuts and exciting music. Before our brain gets bored, the next video has already begun.
Scientists call this a “dopamine loop” (多巴胺循环). Every new video brings a small feeling of pleasure, and that feeling makes us want one more.
The result is a kind of tiredness that many teenagers now know well: sore eyes, a heavy head, and more and more trouble finishing a book or a long piece of homework. In one survey of middle school students, those who spent over three hours a day on short videos were twice as likely to say that they found it hard to concentrate in class.
The good news is that attention can be trained, just like a muscle. Teachers and doctors offer some simple advice. Keep your phone out of your bedroom at night, and put it in a drawer while you study. Set a timer before you open a video app, and stop when it rings. Choose longer activities that you truly enjoy, such as basketball, drawing or reading a story. At first, an hour without videos may feel endless. After two or three weeks, your brain will begin to calm down, and you will be able to stay with a difficult task for much longer.
The people who design these apps want to keep us watching as long as possible.
Whether the screen controls us, however, is still a choice we can make.
8. According to Paragraph 2, why is it hard to stop watching short videos?
A. Because the videos are very long.
B. Because the next video starts before our brain gets bored.
C. Because the app shows the time on the screen.
D. Because teenagers have no self-control at all.
9. What does the survey in Paragraph 4 suggest?
A. Short videos make students cleverer.
B. Spending over three hours a day on short videos is connected with difficulty in concentrating.
C. All middle school students watch videos for three hours a day.
D. Students who read books never use smartphones.
10. Why does the writer say that attention can be trained “just like a muscle”?
A. To show that attention gets weaker as we grow older.
B. To suggest that attention can become stronger with practice.
C. To explain why exercise is important for students.
D. To prove that muscles need more rest than the brain.
11. What is the main message of the passage?
A. Short videos are the best way to relax.
B. Smartphones should be taken away from students.
C. We can decide whether we control the screen or not.
D. Video apps will soon disappear from our phones.

In 2023, a picture won first prize in an art competition in the United States. The judges did not know that it had been produced by an AI program in a few seconds, from nothing more than a short description typed by a man who had never learned to paint. When the truth came out, many artists were angry. “What is the point of years of practice,” one of them asked, “if a machine can do it better in a minute?”
The question is not only about art. AI can now write essays, translate between languages, design buildings and help discover new medicines. Some people are afraid that human skills will soon become worthless. Others believe that AI is simply a new kind of tool, like the printing press (印刷机) or the calculator, and that history shows tools change the way we work rather than bring it to an end.
Perhaps both sides are partly right. What seems certain is that the value of a person no longer lies in finishing a task quickly, because machines are faster and will keep getting faster. What machines cannot easily do is decide which task is worth doing, understand what another person is feeling, or take responsibility when something goes wrong. These abilities are deeply human, and they grow out of experience, mistakes and care.
So the real danger may not be that AI will take our place, but that we will stop developing the very abilities that make us different. If students learn only to copy and repeat, they will be competing with a machine on the machine’s own ground, and they will lose. But if they learn to question, to create and to work with others, AI becomes not a rival (对手) but a partner.
The future will not be decided by the technology itself. It will be decided by what we choose to do with it.
12. Why were many artists angry about the winning picture?
A. Because the competition was open only to young people.
B. Because a machine produced in seconds what usually takes humans years to learn.
C. Because the judges were not professional enough.
D. Because the picture was sold at too high a price.
13. What do the people who compare AI to the printing press believe?
A. That AI will destroy human skills.
B. That AI is only a new tool and will change human work rather than end it.
C. That AI is too expensive for ordinary people.
D. That AI should be forbidden in schools.
14. According to Paragraph 3, which of the following is something machines cannot easily do?
A. Finish a task quickly.
B. Remember a large amount of information.
C. Decide which task is worth doing and take responsibility for it.
D. Translate a text into several languages.
15. What does the last sentence of the passage suggest?
A. Technology is not important at all.
B. People’s own choices will shape the future of AI.
C. AI will decide the future for human beings.
D. Only scientists can decide how AI is used.

七、阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Two years ago, Wang Lin was a student who was afraid of English. In his first English exam of junior high school, he got only 45 points. “Whenever I opened my English book, I felt sleepy,” he said.
Everything changed after a talk with his new English teacher, Miss Chen. Instead of criticizing him, she asked him one question: “How do you learn English?” Wang Lin thought for a long time, but he couldn’t answer it. He realized that he had never really learned how to learn.
With Miss Chen’s help, Wang Lin made a new study plan. Every morning, he read English aloud for fifteen minutes. In class, he began to take notes and ask questions bravely. After school, he watched short English videos and repeated what the speakers said. He also started an English diary to describe his daily life in simple sentences. At first it was difficult, and he made a lot of mistakes, but he corrected them patiently one by one.
Six months later, something amazing happened. Wang Lin got 82 points in the exam, and this term he got 95. More importantly, he is no longer afraid of English. “English has become a window for me to see the world,” he says with a smile. Now he often shares his learning methods with his classmates, because, as he says, “A flower alone is not spring, but a garden of flowers is.”

My Way of Learning English
English used to be a big problem for me, but now it has become one of my favorite subjects.
Two years ago, I had trouble remembering new words and understanding what others said in English. Later, I tried two smart ways to learn it. First, I used word cards to memorize new words when I had short breaks. Second, I listened to English short stories and imitated the pronunciation after them every day.
Now I can take notes in English in class and even talk with my foreign net friend online. I feel this smart way of learning makes English easy and fun.
