Are you planning to take your pet on a long trip? On April 8, China Railway Express announced that pet owners can now ‘bring their cats or dogs on the same train.
To use this service, pet owners must book tickets at least two days before their trip through the 12306 app. The pet must be a healthy cat or dog; weigh less than 15 kilograms, and be no taller than 40 centimeters at the shoulder. An animal quarantine certificate (检疫证书) is also required.
During the journey, pets are kept in special containers (容器) in a separate part of the train, and railway staff will provide water for them. This service is now available on 10 train routes (路线).
The company said that this service meets the increasing need for pet-friendly travel. The 2025 China Pet Industry White Paper shows that 18.7 percent of pet owners spent money on pet travel in 2024, a 4.9 percent increase from 2023.
Many pet owners welcome the service. Wang Shanshan, 27, is one of them. Three years ago, when moving from Wuhan to Beijing, Wang traveled by car with her cat because pets are not allowed on planes and trains. “If such a pet-friendly train service were available at that time,” she said, “it would have been much faster.”
But there are still some concerns. Qin Peixuan, 24, worries about air quality in the closed cabinet (车厢). Wang also said that keeping different-animals together might not be a good idea. For example, a dog’s barking may make cats feel afraid.

Technology has given us the chance to know more information than ever before in history. With the Internet, we are able to get news from around the world easily. But this chance comes with great responsibility (责任). It’s not enough to just read the news—we have to know how to critically evaluate (批判性地评估) it. And that’s why I think schools should offer media literacy courses (媒体素养课).
Media literacy refers to the ability to read, understand and evaluate any kind of media. Being able to tell whether a news story is true or false is an important part of media literacy. Unluckily, it is a skill that many people don’t seem to have.
This lack (缺失) of media literacy can be easily seen on social media, where false information spreads quickly. A shocking example happened in 2016, when an untrue story about a woman winning the lottery (彩票) was shared more than 1.77 million times on Facebook. This is just one example of how false information can spread when people don’t have media literacy.
If media literacy is included in school courses, kids will get the skills they need to look through the Internet. Many of these skills are simple, for example, being able to take a look at a news website and tell if it has a certain kind of bias (偏见).
It is very important that kids learn these skills from an early age, as the future of media will only get more crowded as time goes by. Learning to tell facts apart from fiction will help kids to get the right information and make proper decisions.

【详解】“Shenzhen is the first city in the world to use green energy for almost all its buses and taxis”译作:深圳是世界上第一个几乎所有公交车和出租车都使用绿色能源的城市。其中“Shenzhen is the first city in the world”译作:深圳是世界上第一个城市,“the first...to do sth.”是固定结构,表示“第一个做某事的……”,“in the world”作后置定语,限定范围;“to use green energy”译作:使用绿色能源,这里的不定式短语作后置定语,修饰“the first city”,说明是“做这件事的第一个城市”;“for almost all its buses and taxis”译作:为几乎所有的公交车和出租车,“for”表示对象,“almost”意为“几乎”,“its”指代深圳的。

54. 每天练习说英语。
________ ________ English every day.
【答案】 Practice speaking

55.你钢琴弹得比我好。
You play the piano ________ ________ me.
【答案】 better than

To solve the problem of heavy traffic near our school, we ask more students and teachers to ride bicycles to school.
First, if more students ride their bikes to school, there will be fewer cars on the road. This may greatly reduce traffic jams near our school. Second, it is fun and good exercise to ride bicycles. If you ride a bike to your school, you may get lots of exercise and become fit. Third, cars are not as green as bikes. Riding a bike to school can save energy. It can help us to protect the environment. Finally, it is easy to park bikes. You don’t have to look for a parking lot. Just park your bike behind the school and that is OK.
While the service still needs to be improved, it reflects a change towards more user-friendly railways. In the future, we may see more services like this to help meet the increasing need in the market. Railways will become a bigger part of daily life, not just a way to travel.
38.What is required for pets to board the train?
A.They should be less than 40 kilograms. B.They need to stay with their owners.
C.They can’t eat or drink during the trip. D.They have to be checked for health.

A.To meet the travel needs of pet owners.
B.To encourage more people to raise pets.
C.To compete with airline companies.
D.To make the trip more interesting.
40.What does Wang Shanshan think about the new service?
A.It will affect other passengers.
B.It is better than traveling with pets by plane.
C.It offers a comfortable experience for pets.
D.She supports it but still has some worries.
41.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Railways are a big part of our daily lives.
B.Railway service will be more market-based.
C.The pet market is getting bigger these days.
D.Travel needs in China are growing fast.

42.Why does the writer think that schools should offer media literacy courses?
A.To give students a way to get more information.
B.To train students to be more responsible.
C.To teach students how to evaluate a piece of news.
D.To teach students to be honest.
43.According to Paragraph 2, what does media literacy include?
a. the ability to read a news story
b. the ability to understand a news story
c. the ability to tell whether a news story is true or false
d. the ability to write a news story
A.abc B.abd C.bcd D.acd
44.How does the writer show people’s lack of media literacy?
A.By explaining its reasons. B.By showing a survey result.
C.By listing numbers. D.By using an example.
45.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.We should keep up with the newest information.
B.It’s necessary for students to learn media literacy.
C.The Internet is full of false information.
D.It’s important for schools to develop students’ social abilities.
