How’s it going. I miss you very much. When I got to Beijing three months ago, I felt lonely and sad. I had no friends to talk with and I was not used to the food here. What’s more, I was not good at Chinese. At that time I didn’t know what to do but cry. When I was sad, my Chinese teacher helped me. He not only helped me with my poor Chinese but also taught me how to smile at life. Now I don’t feel lonely. I live happily again. On weekends my classmates and I often go to some villages to help some poor students. We send some old books to them and often play with them. I think I’m much luckier than them. Yours,
Betty

In 1962, a twenty-four-year-old young man named Wang Shanghai said goodbye to his family in Chengde and moved north to Saihanba. The place he was going to was far from “beautiful”: it was a land of bare sand, where spring storms could turn day into night.
With simple tools, Wang and 368 other young workers planted bushes and pines, year after year, in temperatures twenty degrees below zero. In the early years, many trees died, and three workers lost their lives in the sand. But nobody left the forest. The workers built stone houses, carried water by hand, and started again every spring.
Sixty years later, the young fighters have grown old, and their children and grandchildren have taken up their work. Today, Saihanba is the world’s largest man-made forest, home to more than 110 kinds of plants and hundreds of animals. The trees hold the sand and the water, and clean wind power now lights up Beijing. In 2017, Saihanba received the world's highest honour for its work in the environment.
A visitor wrote in the park’s diary: “We came to see trees, and we found something bigger—what ordinary people can do when they never give up.”
62. What does the underlined phrase “turn day into night” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Bring warm weather. B. Make everything dark suddenly.
C. Turn the clock back. D. Wake people up at night.
63. Which of the following is TRUE about Saihanba?

六、任务型阅读
The greatest scientists are famous not only for their discoveries, but also for their interesting lives. Having a special, uncommon mind often goes hand in hand with unusual acts.
Nikola Tesla is known for many inventions. One is the AC motor. While inventing something, Tesla was good at keeping things in mind, because he used picture thinking and imagined every step in his mind first. Tesla said he wanted to do it because of his mother, who invented household electrical machines when he was a child.
Another scientist encouraged by his mother was Albert Einstein, though what he got from his mother was a love of music. In fact, Einstein often played the piano and violin to help him brainstorm.
Einstein’s great works include the most famous E=mc2 and his Theory of Relativity. However, thanks to his wild hair, he is also well-known for the looks of a “mad scientist” and you can tell that he had some interesting quirks (怪癖). For example, he had a strong dislike of wearing socks.
Sometimes, the smartest of us are also the strangest. That quiet child in the corner may one day be the next Tesla or Einstein.
71. What is one of Tesla’s famous inventions?
_____________________________________________________
72. Why could Tesla keep things in mind while inventing something?
_____________________________________________________
73. What did Einstein get from his mother to help brainstorm?
_____________________________________________________
74. What quirk did Einstein have? (Listing one is OK.)
_____________________________________________________
75. What sentence do you want to use to end the text? (Your sentence should be different from the underlined one in the text.)
_____________________________________________________
【答案】71. The AC motor.
72. Because he used picture thinking and imagined every step in his mind first.

根据文章第2段“because he used picture thinking and imagined every step in his mind first.”可知,他能记住事情是因为使用图像思维并先在脑海中想象每一步。

【74题详解】
根据文章第4段“For example, he had a strong dislike of wearing socks.”可知,他有一个不喜欢穿袜子的怪癖。
【75题详解】

Several underground lines have been built, so transportation is fast and easy. However, we still have environmental problems.

The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail
The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail (HSR) is Indonesia’s first high-speed train, built with China’s technology. It connects Indonesia’s capital Jakarta and the city Bandung.
Before this high-speed line, people took regular trains or cars between Jakarta and Bandung. The trip usually spent 3 hours or longer on the old ways. Heavy traffic often made people miss meetings and business chances. It also took a long time to send farm goods to big markets.
The new high-speed train changes everything. The travel time drops from over three hours to just 40 minutes. For passengers, the train is cheap, clean and super fast. Local businessmen can visit clients much faster. Farmers transport fresh fruits and vegetables to Jakarta without spoiling. More tourists come to Bandung for trips every weekend.
The railway also helps develop local economy around stations. Many new restaurants, hotels and small shops appear near the train stations. Lots of local young people find jobs in these new businesses.
