At a party Joyce met Sylvia Beach, an American owner of an English-language bookstore called Shakespeare and Company. Beach had been looking to bring herself and her small business to the attention of the literary world, and she recognized the opportunity in the figure of Joyce and his massive work called Ulysses. By the time Joyce showed Beach the manuscript of his boundary-pushing work, he had given up finding a publisher in England or America. Joyce’s style was anything but ordinary, with each episode of the novel having a distinctive experimental approach. Joyce was firm in fighting for his right to use words that went beyond the societal norms of his era. However, many publishers weren’t willing to take the legal risk of printing his works. But the book industry in France operated under different conditions, and it was possible for Ulysses to appear there. Beach decided to publish Ulysses herself. Taking on this tough challenge, Beach overcame numerous obstacles. For one thing, Joyce was losing his eyesight during the time he was composing Ulysses. Often to keep track of the pages, he marked them up with bold colored crayons. Beach had to find typists who could help tame (理顺) Joyce’s messy manuscript into something that could be typeset. With very limited funds, she needed someone who would agree to do the work first and get paid later. And in addition to being his publisher, she provided a multitude of other services for him, acting as his secretary, banker, real estate agent, medical consultant, and more. Ulysses appeared in 1922, just in time for Joyce’s 40th birthday. Today, a century after the publication of Ulysses, Sylvia Beach remains a hero to many: she is the typical bookstore owner, independent publisher, and champion of literature’s freedom to experiment, challenge, and shock. 4. What opportunity did Beach recognize in Joyce and his work? A. To become a famous writer herself. B. To raise the profile of her bookstore. C. To help Joyce win fame worldwide. D. To build a bridge for literary exchange. 5. What made Ulysses hard for publishers to accept? A. Its ordinary writing style. B. Its unconventional language. C. Its illegal experimental approach. D. Its complex French translation. 6. What did Beach manage to do in publishing Ulysses? A. Borrow money from a local bank. B. Persuade Joyce to use a typewriter. C. Find typists willing to be paid later. D. Rewrite the messy manuscript herself. 7. What role is Sylvia Beach cast in by the last paragraph? A. A strict editor. B. A wise observer. C. A devoted secretary. D. A fearless pioneer. B 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段“Beach had been looking to bring herself and her small business to the attention of the literary world, and she recognized the opportunity in the figure of Joyce and his massive work called Ulysses.(毕奇一直希望让自己和这家小店获得文学界的关注,她在乔伊斯和他那部鸿篇巨著《尤利西斯》身上看到了机遇。)” 根据第二段“Joyce was firm in fighting for his right to use words that went beyond the societal norms of his era. However, many publishers weren’t willing to take the legal risk of printing his works.(乔伊斯坚定捍卫自己的权利,使用那些突破他所处时代社会规范的文字。然而,许多出版商不愿承担出版这部作品带来的法律风险。)”可知,不落俗套、违背常规的语言让出版商难以接受《尤利西斯》。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Beach had to find typists who could help tame (理顺) Joyce’s messy manuscript into something that could be typeset. With very limited funds, she needed someone who would agree to do the work first and get paid later.(毕奇必须找到打字员,帮忙把乔伊斯凌乱的手稿整理成可供排版的文稿。她资金十分有限,需要有人愿意先完成工作、延后领取报酬。)”可知,在出版《尤利西斯》的过程中毕奇成功做到了找到愿意延后拿酬劳的打字员。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Sylvia Beach remains a hero to many: she is the typical bookstore owner, independent publisher, and champion of literature’s freedom to experiment, challenge, and shock.(西尔维娅・毕奇在很多人心中仍是英雄:她是典型的书店店主、独立出版商,捍卫文学自由,支持文学去实验、去挑战、去震撼世人。)” C Have you ever felt the need to have something unique (aka niche) about yourself, something that makes you stand out from everyone else? On social media today, there is a growing trend around being “niche”. The more specific and unusual your hobbies are, the more interesting you seem as a person. It’s no longer enough to say you like classical literature. It becomes more interesting if you say you only read authors like the Brontë Sisters. The same applies to everyday things. Being a coffee lover is no longer just about liking coffee, but about preferring something more mysterious, like espresso instead of a basic latte. This trend reflects the growth of small communities. People with very specific interests can now find each other more easily, forming fandoms and spaces that feel genuinely personal. It also encourages people to explore their interests more deeply. Instead of staying on the surface, many begin to engage more seriously with what they like. In that sense, niche culture can push people toward growth and discovery. However, there is another side to this trend. What happens if people don’t consider your interests “niche enough”? For example, maybe you genuinely enjoy reading young adult fantasy, something widely popular and not particularly rare. Does that make you less interesting? Should you start presenting yourself differently just to appear more unique? This is where the problem begins. When uniqueness becomes an expectation, it can easily turn into performance. Instead of choosing hobbies based on real interest, people may start choosing them based on how they look to others. At that point, being “niche” becomes a way to build an image rather than express who you are. On the one hand, niche culture helps people find communities, explore new ideas and express themselves more freely. On the other hand, it turns individuality into something performative. So, the actual question we should ask is not how unique our interests are, but how genuinely we engage with them. What makes someone interesting is not how rare their hobbies look online, but how real they are. 8. Which of the following best illustrates being “niche”? A. David enjoys reading classical literature. B. Sarah often jogs in the neighborhood park. C. Emily collects movie posters from the 1960s. D. Michael drinks a basic latte at a chain store daily. 9. How does niche culture benefit people? A. Motivating serious hobby pursuit. B. Regulating behaviors of fandoms. C. Creating more local community jobs. D. Breaking the barriers between groups. 10. When might being “niche” be insincere? A. When one seeks a desired image. B. When people lack real uniqueness. C. When interests grow truly popular. D. When social expectations are dropped. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. How to Stand out Online B. Join a Niche Community C. The Dark Side of Hobbies D. Niche Culture: Trend or Trap 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第二段中的“The more specific and unusual your hobbies are, the more interesting you seem as a person. It’s no longer enough to say you like classical literature. It becomes more interesting if you say you only read authors like the Brontë Sisters. (你的爱好越具体、越不寻常,你这个人看起来就越有趣。只说你喜欢古典文学已经不够了。如果你说你只读勃朗特姐妹这类作家的作品,就会显得更有意思。)”可知,“niche”的核心是具体、小众且区别于大众普遍喜好。由此推知,收集20世纪60年代的电影海报属于具体且偏冷门的爱好,最符合“niche”的特征。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“It also encourages people to explore their interests more deeply. Instead of staying on the surface, many begin to engage more seriously with what they like. In that sense, niche culture can push people toward growth and discovery. (它也鼓励人们更深入地探索自己的兴趣。许多人不再停留在表面,而是开始更认真地投入到自己喜欢的事物中。从这个意义上说,小众文化能推动人们成长和探索。)”可知,小众文化能激励人们认真深入地追求爱好,这是其带来的益处。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中的“When uniqueness becomes an expectation, it can easily turn into performance. Instead of choosing hobbies based on real interest, people may start choosing them based on how they look to others. At that point, being “niche” becomes a way to build an image rather than express who you are. (当独特成为一种期待,它很容易就会变成表演。人们可能不再基于真正的兴趣选择爱好,而是基于这些爱好在别人眼中的样子来选择。在这种情况下,追求‘小众’就成了一种塑造人设的方式,而非表达自我。)”可知,当人们为了打造想要的外在形象而去追求“小众”时,这种行为就是不真诚的。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。文章先引出“小众文化”的流行现象,再分别论述其积极影响与存在的问题,最后在尾段通过主旨句“On the one hand, niche culture helps people find communities, explore new ideas and express themselves more freely. On the other hand, it turns individuality into something performative. (一方面,小众文化帮助人们找到同好社群、探索新想法、更自由地表达自我;另一方面,它将个体特质变成了表演性的人设。)”总结全文,辩证地揭示了小众文化兼具潮流价值与潜在陷阱的双重属性。D项表示“小众文化:潮流还是陷阱”,涵盖本文的主旨,适合作本文的标题。 D How do young children build their vocabulary? Even by age 1, children seem to think that a new word means something different from words they already know. But why they think so has remained a mystery for the last 40 years. Many scholars have thought that young children have a strong tendency toward “mutual exclusivity” — treating each new word as corresponding to a new object. However, this concept has never been airtight: Words like “bat” refer to multiple kinds of objects, while any object can be described using countless words. For instance, a rabbit can be called not only a “rabbit” or a “bunny”, but also an “animal” or a “beauty”. Now a new study offers a different insight. Researchers propose that children rely on “focus” signals — the way we emphasize certain words to signal contrast. Depending on what is focused on, the same sentence can have different implications. “Carlos gave Lewis a Ferrari” contrasts with other cars, while “Carlos gave Lewis a Ferrari” contrasts with other people. The team ran three experiments with 106 children. The participants watched videos of a cartoon fox who asked them to point to different objects. The first experiment established how focus influences kids’ choice between two objects when they hear a label, like “toy”. After naming one object — “Look, I am pointing to the blicket,” the fox told the child, “Now you point to the toy!” One group heard “toy” without emphasis, while another heard it with emphasis. Without focus, only 24% thought the words were mutually exclusive. With focus, 89% thought “blicket” and “toy” referred to different objects. Two further experiments showed that focus also affects the interpretation of new words children had never encountered before, like “wug” or “dax”. With focus, more children thought the word meant a new object. The experiment, the researchers note, is the result of interdisciplinary research bridging psychology and linguistics. The scholars acknowledge that more studies could reexamine prior studies about mutual exclusivity, study naturalistic interactions between parents and children to see how focus is used, and examine the issue in other languages, especially those marking focus in alternate ways, such as word order. 12. What does the underlined word “airtight” mean in paragraph 2? A. Widely accepted. B. Heavily guarded. C. Complex to understand. D. Perfect without faults. 13. Why does the author mention the two sentences about “Carlos”? A. To show Carlos’s personal preference. B. To prove that “Ferrari” is a difficult word. C. To teach children how to pronounce words. D. To explain how emphasis changes meaning. 14. Which picture did the children see when the fox said “Now you point to the toy”? A. B. C. D. 15. What will the follow-up studies primarily focus on? A. Use of new research methods. B. Inclusion of qualified researchers. C. Extension of the research coverage. D. Educational application of the finding. D 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段画线词“airtight”后面的“Words like “bat” refer to multiple kinds of objects, while any object can be described using countless words. For instance, a rabbit can be called not only a “rabbit” or a “bunny”, but also an “animal” or a “beauty”.(像‘bat’这类词可指代多种事物,而任何一个物体都可以用无数个词来描述;例如一只兔子不仅可以被叫作‘rabbit’或‘bunny’,还可以被称为‘animal’或‘beauty’。)” 根据第三段中的“Depending on what is focused on, the same sentence can have different implications. “Carlos gave Lewis a Ferrari” contrasts with other cars, while “Carlos gave Lewis a Ferrari” contrasts with other people.(取决于关注的焦点,同一句话可以产生不同含义。‘卡洛斯送给刘易斯一辆法拉利’是和其他车型作对比,而‘卡洛斯送给刘易斯一辆法拉利’是和其他人物作对比。)”可知,作者列举这组句子是为了解释重读如何改变句子含义。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“After naming one object — “Look, I am pointing to the blicket,” the fox told the child, “Now you point to the toy!”(在给其中一个物品命名之后——‘看,我正指着这个blicket,’狐狸对孩子说,‘现在你来指出玩具!’)” 根据最后一段中的“The scholars acknowledge that more studies could reexamine prior studies about mutual exclusivity, study naturalistic interactions between parents and children to see how focus is used, and examine the issue in other languages, especially those marking focus in alternate ways, such as word order.(学者们承认,可以开展更多研究来重新检验以往关于互斥性的相关研究,探究亲子间的自然互动场景中焦点信息是如何运用的,并在其他语言中考察该问题,尤其是那些通过语序等其他方式标记焦点的语言。)” For decades, the call to “go green” in cities has often translated into planting more trees and creating parks. However, emerging research suggests that our well-intentioned efforts might sometimes be misplaced. ____16____ It challenges the simple belief that all planting is equally beneficial and pushes for a smarter, science-based approach. One key insight is that not all trees are equal in an urban setting. While native trees are crucial for supporting local wildlife, some non-native species might actually be better suited to city conditions. ____17____ Owing to this, they can better bear pollution, compacted (压实的) soil, and the “heat island” effect, thus surviving longer and providing continuous benefits. ____18____ A study comparing two city squares — one with a few large trees and the other with many thick green bushes — found the latter was often regarded as less safe and welcoming by residents. This highlights that urban greening must balance ecological goals with human psychology and social space needs. Water management is another critical factor often overlooked. Traditional grasslands and many plants for decoration require significant water supply. Therefore, a shift towards water-wise landscape designs, featuring drought-resistant plants and water easy-going surfaces, is gaining wide acceptance. ____19____ Furthermore, the location of green spaces matters greatly. Planting trees in a narrow street canyon (峡谷) might trap pollution at street level, worsening air quality for the local residents. ____20____ Ecologists and urban biologists now use the sustainable modelling to determine the species and placement to maximize air purification and cooling effects in cities. Ultimately, creating truly sustainable cities with the “bio-design” requires integrating ecology, hydrology, and social needs into every greening decision. A. They may have deeper roots or higher tolerance. B. Urban greening often fails to account for people’s needs. C. This is where the concept “bio-design” becomes essential. D. It is necessary to plant more fast-growing trees among high-rises. E. So the cost of maintaining these green spaces gets higher for water use. F. These novel approaches really help conserve and recharge groundwater. G. In contrast, planting a mix of trees and bushes in parks creates clean-air zones. C 17. A 18. B 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据空前的“However, emerging research suggests that our well-intentioned efforts might sometimes be misplaced.(然而,新研究表明我们善意的举措有时可能并不合适。)”以及空后的“It challenges the simple belief that all planting is equally beneficial and pushes for a smarter, science-based approach.(它挑战了所有植树都同样有益的简单看法,倡导更科学合理的方法。)” C选项“This is where the concept “bio-design” becomes essential(这正是“生物设计”理念发挥关键作用的地方)”中的This指代上文传统绿化存在偏差的现状,It指代the concept“bio-design”,前后衔接紧密。 【17题详解】 根据空前的“While native trees are crucial for supporting local wildlife, some non-native species might actually be better suited to city conditions.(虽然本土树木对支撑本地野生动物至关重要,但一些外来树种实际上更适应城市环境。)”以及空后的“Owing to this, they can better bear pollution, compacted (压实的) soil, and the “heat island” effect, thus surviving longer and providing continuous benefits. (正因如此,它们能更好承受污染、压实土壤以及热岛效应,存活更久并持续发挥作用。)”可知,前文指出部分外来树种更适合城市环境,后文说明它们耐受恶劣环境的结果,空格需要介绍这类树种自身优势。A选项“They may have deeper roots or higher tolerance(它们可能拥有更深的根系或更强的耐受能力)”中的They指代上文提到的non-native species,解释后文Owing to this的原因。 【18题详解】 根据空后的“A study comparing two city squares — one with a few large trees and the other with many thick green bushes — found the latter was often regarded as less safe and welcoming by residents. This highlights that urban greening must balance ecological goals with human psychology and social space needs.(一项对比两个城市广场的研究——一处有几棵大树,另一处有茂密灌木丛——发现居民通常认为后者安全性与舒适度更低。这表明城市绿化必须平衡生态目标与人的心理、社会空间需求。)”可知,本段用研究实例说明绿化需要考虑人的感受,空格为本段主题句,点明绿化忽略人的需求这一问题。B选项“Urban greening often fails to account for people’s needs(城市绿化常常忽略人们的需求)”总领本段,引出下文的研究例子。 【19题详解】 根据空前的“Therefore, a shift towards water-wise landscape designs, featuring drought-resistant plants and water easy-going surfaces, is gaining wide acceptance.(因此,转向节水型景观设计,选用耐旱植物和易于排水的表面材料,正被广泛认可。)” F选项“These novel approaches really help conserve and recharge groundwater(这些新方法有助于涵养和补充地下水)”中的These novel approaches指代前文节水景观设计,承接上文。 【20题详解】 根据空前的“Planting trees in a narrow street canyon (峡谷)might trap pollution at street level, worsening air quality for the local residents.(在狭窄街道峡谷种树可能将污染物困在路面,恶化当地居民空气质量。)”以及空后的“Ecologists and urban biologists now use the sustainable modelling to determine the species and placement to maximize air purification and cooling effects in cities.(生态学家与城市生物学家现在利用可持续模型确定树种与栽种位置,最大限度实现城市空气净化与降温效果。)” G选项“In contrast, planting a mix of trees and bushes in parks creates clean-air zones(相比之下,在公园混合种植乔木与灌木可以打造洁净空气区)”中的In contrast与前文不良选址形成对比,逻辑通顺。 My first job was dishing out ice cream, a dream job for youngsters. A. check out结账离开;B. start over重新开始;C. mess up搞砸;D. slow down减速。根据上文“_______, covered in ice cream, I’d make it with a customer’s order filled.” A. risky危险的;B. sweaty出汗的;C. skinny瘦弱的;D. guilty内疚的。 A. work工作;B. recipe食谱;C. bill账单;D. pay工资。根据上文首段“My first job was dishing out ice cream, a dream job for youngsters.”以及空前的“at the end of every week”可知,这是一份工作,每到周末作者会拿到工资。 A. beautify美化;B. simplify简化;C. justify证明…… 根据空后的“sometimes, sweet ice cream is all the meaning we need”可知,此处表达不一定非要宏大的经历来诠释辛苦付出的价值,justify可以表达证明努力有意义的含义。 A. habit习惯;B. lesson经验;C. chance机会;D. leisure闲暇。根据空后的“something about the gap between dreams and reality”可推知,这份打工经历让作者获得关于梦想和现实的认知,这是一种人生经验。 In the restoration process of Dunhuang murals (壁画), AI improves ____36____ (efficient) and detects damage early with its high precision and strong computing power. The season to search for naturally shed antlers (脱落的鹿角), the bony structures on the heads of male deer, on public land began on May first. I wrapped up, grabbed my pack and left home early with my dog, Dell, the best buddy I’d ever had in outdoor activities, “Let’s find some antlers!” Dell barked excitedly. Bull elk (雄鹿) shed their antlers every spring. I’d picked the perfect spot where they grazed and rubbed their antlers against trees. We found many sheds there last year. Of course, shedhunting wasn’t without risks. The trails could be rough, storms could blow in, and cougars, fierce mountain lions, could be around. With plenty of deer and elk for their primary food, cougars rarely attacked humans or dogs. However, a mother cougar protecting her cubs (幼崽) was absolutely different. With the perfect spot in mind, we headed east on Highway 40. Dell sat motionless in the seat. After 10 years of training dogs, I finally had a winner in Dell. My other dogs could only find antlers in the yard; they’d lose focus on open land. Dell had been different from the beginning. He loved the hunt and stayed focused on our task, no matter how wide the area was. We parked at the spot. My heart was beating fast. Dell took off running, nose down, like a police dog at a crime scene. He raced up over rocks, down around trees, over piles of snow, sniffing (嗅), always sniffing. When he found an antler, he barked for a treat. We hadn’t walked 100 yards together when Dell planted himself in front of me. “Find the antlers,” I said, a command I’d never had to give twice. Dell Dog stayed still. I stared down at him in disbelief. I kept going for about 30 yards. Looking back, I saw him still sitting like a stone, his eyes never leaving mine. For the first time ever, Dell refused to obey. What possible reason could he have? I called Dell again, but he didn’t move. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, a local TV report on cougar cubs caught my eye. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I called Dell again, but he didn’t move. His ears flattened, and a low bark escaped his throat — a sound I’d never heard from him before. Something was terribly wrong. I scanned the treeline ahead carefully. Then I saw it: two small shapes were rolling in the snow, and a cougar mother was watching us with cold eyes. My blood ran cold too. Dell had sensed her long before I did. He was warning me! We slowly and silently backed away until we reached the safety of our car. The next morning, a local TV report on cougar cubs caught my eye. Wildlife officials had spotted a cougar family near the very trail we’d hiked. They warned hikers to avoid the area until the family moved on. I turned to Dell, who lay at my feet, his head resting on his paws. “You saved us, boy,” I whispered, rubbing behind his ears. He tapped his tail once, then closed his eyes. Ever since, I’ve trusted him completely. Some partners don’t just obey orders — they truly understand the world around us. 词汇激活 行为类 ①后退:back away/retreat ②发现:spotted/found 情绪类 ①冷漠:cold/indifferent ②信任:trusted/believed in 【点睛】[高分句型 1] His ears flattened, and a low bark escaped his throat — a sound I’d never heard from him before.(运用了省略关系代词的定语从句修饰先行词sound) [高分句型 2] I turned to Dell, who lay at my feet, his head resting on his paws.(运用了who引导的非限制性定语从句以及独立主格结构作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年高三10月题库 英语试题 考生注意: 1. 1. B When James Joyce turned up in Paris in 1920, the writer had with him the manuscript-in-progress that would become a landmark of modern literature. C Have you ever felt the need to have something unique (aka niche) about yourself, something that makes you stand out from everyone else? Niche Culture: Trend or Trap D How do young children build their vocabulary? 12. My first job was dishing out ice cream, a dream job for youngsters. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
