Chengdu, a city in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, is the first in the Chinese mainland to host the World Games (TWG). This big sports event for non-Olympic sports will be held from August 7 to August 17. Recently, the torch for The World Games 2025 Chengdu was shown to the public. It’s named “ Zhumeng”, which means “ Bamboo Dream” in Chinese and sounds like “ chasing dreams”. This is the first-ever torch in TWG’s history.
The torch’s design is inspired by the Grand Bronze Standing Figure from the Sanxingdui Ruins in Sichuan. The Grand Bronze Standing Figure is a famous relic from the Sanxingdui civilization (文明), one of China’s oldest cultures. Using this figure in the torch design shows the wisdom of Chinese culture’s unity in diversity. The torch looks like both a tall figure and a proud bamboo shoot. In China, bamboo stands for modesty (谦逊) and strength. It is ideal for representing sports because it shows unity, hard work, and health.
As home to giant pandas, Sichuan has lots of bamboo forests, the favorite food of pandas. The top of the torch is shaped like a young bamboo shoot with two buds (芽) stretching out. This symbolizes an open and friendly China welcoming the world. The whole torch looks like a strong bamboo stalk, showing the sports spirit of unity and trying hard.
The torch’s nozzle (喷嘴) is like the Sun-shaped Crown worn by the Bronze Standing Figure found at the Jinsha Site in Chengdu. It shows Chengdu’s deep culture and gives athletes endless energy, like the sun. It also symbolizes their spirit of wanting to do their best.
At the bottom of the torch, a phoenix-shaped bird holds it up. This reminds us of an old saying: “When a holy bird flies and sings, peace is in the world.” It shows China’s rich culture and our hope for world peace.
6. What is the name of the torch for the 2025 Chengdu World Games, and what does it symbolize?
A. “Zhumeng,” meaning “Phoenix Bird,” symbolizing peace.
B. “Zhumeng,” meaning “Bamboo Dream,” symbolizing chasing dreams.
C. “Zhumeng,” meaning “Unity,” symbolizing cultural diversity.
D. “Zhumeng,” meaning “Sun Crown,” symbolizing energy.
7. What does the bamboo shoot design at the top of the torch represent?
A. Sichuan’s giant pandas. B. The hard work of athletes.
C. An open and friendly China. D. Ancient Chinese modesty.
8. What does the phrase “unity in diversity” in Paragraph 2 most likely refer to?
A. Combining sports and art in the World Games.
B. Blending different cultural elements into a single design.
C. Encouraging athletes from diverse backgrounds to compete.
D. Using multiple materials to build the torch.
9. What does the phoenix-shaped bird at the bottom of the torch symbolize?
A. China’s technological achievements. B. The hope for world peace.
C. The energy of the sun. D. The history of Sichuan.
10. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To advertise the 2025 Chengdu World Games.
B. To explain the cultural meanings behind the torch design.
C. To compare Sanxingdui and Jinsha civilizations.
D. To discuss the importance of bamboo in Chinese culture.

China is making big efforts to help people control their weight and live healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” plan from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity. Obesity can cause serious health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Here’s what you should know about the new guidelines:
First, it’s important to check your BMI (Body Mass Index). For adults, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight. A BMI of 28 or more means you are obese. Also, doctors suggest measuring your waist. Men should keep their waist under 90 cm, and women under 85 cm.
Eating well is very important, and exercise is just as important! When it comes to food, choose whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins such as fish, chicken, or beans. Don’t eat fried foods and sugary snacks, and also eat less salt and oil. Interestingly, the guidelines even include fun local dishes—like “stewed fish” from Northeast China or “noodles with chili oil” from the Northwest—to make healthy eating tasty and full of local flavor.
For exercise, try to do 150-300 minutes of activities like walking, cycling, or dancing every week, and do strength exercises twice a week. If you sit for a long time while studying, stand up and stretch for 3-5 minutes every hour.
Besides diet and exercise, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night because bad sleep can make you gain weight. Try to eat vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread during a meal to control how much you eat.
Schools and communities are also helping. For example, schools in Shanghai now make sure students exercise for at least two hours every day, and hospitals have “weight clinics” with diet plans, exercise advice, and even traditional Chinese ways. By 2030, China hopes to slow down the increase of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about being perfect—just start with small changes, like drinking water instead of soda or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these easy steps, everyone can have a healthier future.
11. According to the guidelines, which BMI range indicates an adult is overweight?
A. Below 18.5. B. 18.5-24. C. 24-28. D. Above 28.
12. Which one is TRUE about China’s “Weight Management Year” plan?
A. The government has started a four-year “Weight Management Year” plan.
B. For everyone, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.
C. Measuring waist is a good way to check whether you are obese.
D. Eating is more important than exercise.
13. Why does the plan include local dishes like “stewed fish” or “noodles with chili oil”?
A. To increase fast-food sales.
B. To make healthy meals more enjoyable.
C. To replace traditional exercise methods.
D. To reduce cooking time.
14. What example is given for school efforts in Shanghai?
A. Serving only vegetarian meals. B. Requiring 2 hours of daily exercise.
C. Banning sugary snacks. D. Offering free BMI checks.
15. What does the word “obesity” in the passage most likely mean?
A. Being very underweight. B. Having a healthy BMI.
C. Being seriously overweight. D. Lacking physical strength.

China is facing an AI-powered transformation. Picture this: The classroom blackboard is replaced with a big screen and students click on tablets to answer questions instead of writing with pencils. AI makes it a reality, offering learning pathways for Chinese students and-bridging the urban-rural digital divide.
At a middle school in Guiyang, Guizhou province, English teacher Zeng Xing can use the big screen to show the detailed answers of each student. By analyzing results with AI and big data, the system enables Zeng to meet the specific need of each student. “We can now quickly identify students’ weaknesses and make teaching plans accordingly, which is far more efficient than before,” she says.
The smart classroom system also enables students to improve their speaking skills through personalized, interactive dialogues sourced from different English movies, news and poetry. AI can evaluate students’ pronunciation and provide feedback, helping them speak more accurately and with greater confidence.
“AI has created opportunities for basic education in remote (偏远的) areas like Guizhou,” says Huang Hui, head of Zeng’s middle school. “AI-powered tools play an important role in bridging urban-rural education gaps by expanding teaching resources and improving accessibility,” Huang adds. Wang Lei, professor at Beijing Normal University’s School of Government revealed that China will release a white paper on AI education in 2025 to help students with enhanced skills for the digital and AI era.
In the future, primary and secondary schools in Beijing will offer at least eight class hours of AI courses per academic year to innovative talent. Despite AI’s advantages, it raises concerns about data security and privacy. “It is crucial to establish policies on AI usage, enhance technological oversight, and strengthen ethics (伦理的) education for teachers and students,” says Tang Liang, deputy director of the information center at the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences.
16. What does AI help Zeng Xing do in her teaching?
A. Replace traditional textbooks with tablets.
B. Analyze student performance and design targeted plans.
C. Reduce the number of exams students take.
D. Allow students to learn without teachers.
17. How does AI support students’ speaking skills?
A. By letting students watch more English movies.
B. By providing real-time feedback on pronunciation.
C. By removing the need for speaking practice.
D. By translating Chinese into English automatically.
18. What is Huang Hui’s main point about AI in education?
A. It is only effective in developed cities.
B. It makes classrooms less interactive.
C. It increases the cost of education.
D. It helps provide equal resources to remote areas.
19. What future plan is mentioned for AI education in China?
A. Publishing a white paper on AI education in 2025.
B. Training all teachers to become AI experts by 2025.
C. Removing traditional subjects from the curriculum.
D. Requiring students to use AI tools for all homework.
20. What is a major concern about using AI in education?
A. Students might lose interest in learning.
B. Data security and privacy could be at risk.
C. Teachers may refuse to adopt new technology.
D. AI tools are too difficult for students to use.

My dad is very interested in history and the Silk Road has always fascinated him. He has told me many things about it. Although it’s called the Silk Road, people traded much more than silk. The Silk Road went through Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. It was around 6,500 km from Xi’an to Rome and it played an important role in the development of the world. My family got away for a holiday last summer and went to some famous places along the original road.
We started at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected three main cities in the area. In ancient times, it was also a capital. Although it’s now a modern city, you can get a sense of history when you visit it. We saw lots of very old stone monuments and people there were very proud of their city’s long history.
The next stop was Jiayuguan. It’s on the edge of the desert, and was an important place on the Silk Road. It was a busy city with a lot of people coming and going. Even today, it’s a city that many business people travel through. An important part of the Great Wall was also built here.
After that, we went on to Yumenguan. I first found out about Yumenguan in the famous poem written by Wang Zhihuan. It was in the Gobi Desert and was the only connection between Central Asia and China. I wonder how people ever made it through the hot desert so long ago.
Finally, we arrived in Dunhuang, a city with a long history and great artwork. It was influenced by many different cultures over time. Now, it’s a major place of interest in north-west China.
This trip wasn’t just a scenic journey. It helped me understand the history of the area and see how people from different places influenced each other in many ways.

【答案】例文
Should artificial intelligence be allowed to replace human jobs completely?
Now we have a hot discussion about whether AI can take all human jobs.
Some people say AI improves work efficiency and reduces human errors. It helps businesses lower labor costs. It can safely handle dangerous or repetitive tasks and provide 24/7 uninterrupted service. However, others disagree. AI may increase unemployment risks. It reduces opportunities for human skill development. It lacks emotional understanding in service industries and widens the wealth gap.
In my opinion, AI is useful, but it cannot replace humans completely. We have creativity and true feelings.
