Dear Miss Li,
I'm a Grade 9 student. I want to be a doctor, but my parents have a different plan for me. They make all the decisions in my life and ask me to study all the time. They don't allow me to play the piano, which is my favourite. When I try to tell them how I feel, they don't listen to me. I feel I have no freedom. What should I do?
Yours,
Kitty
Letter 2 From Simon
Dear Miss Li,
I have a problem with my study and my hobby. I love football very much, but I never have enough time to do my homework. I often stay up late and feel very tired in class. My teacher says I waste too much time playing. I don't know how to manage my time well. Can you help me?
Yours,
Simon
Reply From Miss Li
Dear Kitty and Simon,
Thank you for your letters. Problems are normal in your teenage years, and you don't have to face them alone.
Kitty, you should talk to your parents patiently. Tell them what you really want and why. It's important to communicate, not to argue. You may also ask your teacher for help.
Simon, a good habit is to make a plan before you do anything. Write down what you must do first, and then the time for football. Try to cut back on playing games on your phone. Remember, a balance between study and hobbies can make you happier.
I'm sure things will get better soon.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. In China, teenagers can turn to a special hotline—12355—when they meet with problems. Trained workers listen to their worries and give advice for free. Besides the hotline, you can also talk to your parents, your teachers or your close friends. The most important thing is not to keep your problems to yourself. Sharing your feelings can make the problem smaller, and it can also help you find a way out. Remember, everyone has problems, and it's OK to ask for help.
1. What is 12355? ________________________________________
2. Who listens to teenagers' worries on the hotline? ________________________________________
3. How much should teenagers pay for the advice on the hotline? ________________________________________
4. Why shouldn't teenagers keep their problems to themselves? ________________________________________

Growing up is never easy. Almost every teenager meets problems at some time. Here are some useful ways to deal with them.
First, face the problem bravely. Running away from a problem only makes it bigger. When you feel worried, tell yourself, “I can deal with it.”
Second, talk about it. You can talk to your parents, your teachers or your friends. Sometimes just saying your problem out loud can make you feel better.
Third, find a way out. Make a plan and take action step by step. If one way doesn't work, try another. Don't be afraid of making mistakes.
Finally, look after yourself. Get enough sleep, eat healthy food and do some exercise. A healthy body helps you have a healthy mind.
Remember, problems are not the end of the world. They are chances for you to become stronger.
1. What does the writer think of running away from a problem? ________________________________________
2. Who can teenagers talk to according to the passage? ________________________________________
3. What should you do if one way doesn't work? ________________________________________
4. Why should teenagers get enough sleep and do exercise? ________________________________________
