Tai Lihua is a famous Chinese dancer, but her world has been silent for most of her life. When she was two years old, a high fever and the medicine she took took away her hearing. Her parents were sad, but they didn't give up on their little daughter.
At the age of seven, Tai entered a school for deaf children. There she had her first dance lesson and fell in love with dancing at once. Dancing was not easy for a deaf girl. She could not hear the music, so she could not follow it. Her teacher had a special way to help her: he beat the drum, and the vibrations (震动) travelled through the wooden floor. Tai pressed her ear and body close to the floor and felt every beat with her heart.
Tai practised for hours every day. Sometimes she was so tired that her clothes were wet through, but she never said a word about giving up. Years of hard work paid off. In 2005, she led a team of deaf dancers in the beautiful dance Avalokitesvara (《千手观音》) at the Spring Festival Gala. Millions of Chinese people watched it and were deeply moved.
"I cannot hear the world, but I want the world to see my dream," Tai once said. Her story tells us that a quiet world can never stop a dancing heart.

A. She began to learn dancing. B. She lost her hearing.

Everyone fails at something. Maybe you failed a test, lost an important match, or did badly in a speech contest. The question is not how to avoid failure, but how to face it. Here is some useful advice.
First, allow yourself to feel sad. Don't pretend that nothing has happened. It is normal to feel disappointed for a while. However, don't stay in bad feelings for too long, or they will stand in your way.
Second, find out the cause of your failure calmly. Ask yourself, "What went wrong?" Did you spend too little time? Did you use the wrong method? An honest review is the first step to getting better.
Third, make a new plan and act at once. A plan without action is only a wish on paper. Set a small goal for each day, and check yourself every evening. Little by little, you will see your progress.
Finally, remember that failure is part of the road to success. Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before he invented the light bulb. He said he had not failed; he had just found thousands of ways that didn't work. So next time you fail, stand up and keep going. Your hard work will pay off in the end.
( )7.How many pieces of advice does the writer give us?
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
( )8.What does the underlined word "review" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. A long rest after hard work. B. A quick way to forget sadness.
C. A new plan for tomorrow. D. A careful look back at what you did.
( )9.Why does the writer talk about Thomas Edison?
A. To show failure is normal on the road to success.
B. To ask us to invent something new.
C. To prove light bulbs are important.
D. To tell us to fail thousands of times.
( )10.Which can be the best title for the passage?
A. Ways to Avoid Failure B. Edison and His Inventions
C. The Importance of Plans D. How to Face Failure Bravely
D
"The best way to realize your dream is to hold it and work for it step by step." These words come from Wang Yaping, China's famous woman astronaut.
As a child in a small village in Shandong, Wang often watched planes fly over her head and dreamed of flying one day. After she became a pilot, she heard that China was choosing astronauts. Although the training was hard, she decided to have a try.
Astronaut training is not easy. One of the most difficult parts is training in a fast spinning machine, which makes people feel as if they are carrying eight times their own weight. Many trainees (受训者) must press a red button to stop when they feel too sick, but during all her years of training, Wang never pressed it. She knew that the button meant giving up her space dream.
In 2013, Wang flew into space for the first time and gave China's first space lesson to over 60 million students. In 2021, she returned to space and became the first Chinese woman to walk in space. During the six-month task, she also taught science lessons from the space station again.
"When I look at the earth from space, I feel proud of my motherland," she said. Wang's story encourages millions of young people: hold your dream, never stop trying, and even the sky is not the limit.
( )11.Which of the following is TRUE about Wang Yaping?
A. She was born in a big city.
B. She became an astronaut as soon as she left school.
C. She gave China's first space lesson in 2013.
D. She walked in space twice in 2021.
( )12.What problem did Wang meet in her astronaut training?
A. She felt eight times heavier in a spinning machine.
B. She couldn't get on well with other trainees.
C. She was often too sick to continue training.
D. She wasn't allowed to press the red button.
( )13.Why didn't Wang Yaping press the red button during the training?
A. Because she was too proud of herself.
B. Because the button meant giving up her space dream.
C. Because other trainees would laugh at her.
D. Because the button was too far away.
( )14.What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. Wang thinks the training is easy and interesting.
B. Wang's story has encouraged many young people.
C. Wang will give up space flights in the future.
D. Only women can become good astronauts.

The Chinese Women's Volleyball Team is one of the most successful teams in the world. The team won the World Cup for the first time in 1981, and in the following years, it won the World Cup five times, the World Championship twice and three Olympic gold medals. The players became heroes in China at that time.
However, the road to success was never easy. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the team fell behind the world's best teams. Many people thought it could never come back. But the players and their coaches worked harder than ever. Under Lang Ping, the team trained day after day and won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Nobody believed they could beat the world's best teams before the match, but they turned things around and made it.
"The spirit of the women's volleyball team is not only about winning, but about never giving up, even when your chance is small," Lang Ping once said. Today, this spirit encourages Chinese people in all walks of life. When students meet difficult lessons, when workers meet hard problems, they think of this team and keep going.

Life is not always easy, and sometimes we want to give up. Last year, I failed my English exams again and again, and I really wanted to stop trying. Luckily, my mother told me about her own story: she learned to use the computer at forty and never gave up. Her courage touched me deeply.
I made a plan, practised English every day and asked my teacher for help when I had questions. A few months later, I passed the exam with a high score. This experience taught me that difficulties can make us stronger. When you feel like giving up, hold your dream and keep going.
