I hope some of you will take up nursing in the future because it's a fantastic job. First, i'll tell you how I got started. I had no idea what I wanted to do until I was about fourteen. When I overheard a family conversation, my cousin was telling my mom how much he enjoyed her work as a nurse in a busy hospital. And I thought, yeah, that's exactly what i'd bike to do. When I told my teachers my decision, they were encouraging, but they said that although i'd always got good Marks in english and biology, I need to improve my math or I wouldn't be able to do the job well. I must say, being a student nurse wasn't easy IT involved lots of late nights staying up to do my course work, but i'd known IT would be like that. Anyway, I think I have one of the best jobs in the world. My sister is an account, and although he earns far more than I do, I think my job is much more rewarding. Hello everybody, my name's duty. 第一节 应用文写作(满分15分)
One possible version:
Growing Up Through Challenges
Life is full of challenges that shape who we are. Last term, I struggled significantly with public speaking. Whenever I stood on the stage, my mind would go blank due to extreme nervousness. To overcome this fear, I practised daily in front of a mirror and actively joined the school speech club. Gradually, I gained confidence through continuous effort. Finally, I delivered a successful speech in class, receiving warm applause.
This experience taught me that persistence is the key to success. Challenges are not obstacles but stepping stones to growth. I believe facing them bravely makes us stronger and wiser.
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
One possible version:
Then, with a determination that surprised me, he made a simple but powerful choice. Huddy slid down from his seat, grabbed his half-eaten food, and walked straight over to the man’s table. I watched, my breath catching in my throat, as he climbed onto the chair opposite the stranger. “Hi!” Huddy chirped, offering the man his food. “You looked lonely, so I came to eat with you.” For me, the moment was overwhelming. The elderly man looked up, his eyes widening in surprise before softening into a genuine, heartwarming smile.
He welcomed Huddy’s company, and soon, they were chatting like old friends. Watching my son show such pure, uncalculated kindness to a stranger moved me to tears. Witnessing this connection unfold, I felt a surge of pride. It was a powerful reminder that small gestures can indeed change someone’s day. My little boy has the biggest heart. As we left the restaurant, I realized once again why I always say, “Live like Huddy”. He teaches me daily that the world is a brighter place when we simply see people as people, bridging the distance with love.

As a child of the Buginese Indigenous (本土的) community, I was raised to give meaning to everything I do, no matter how small. Whether in my interactions with people or with nature, there is always a value to be found.
Through running I discovered my own way of speaking, not only with my body, but also with the world around me. Running, at its core the simplest of movements, becomes a mirror of character: ambition, patience, togetherness, and the desire to simply enjoy life. It’s a universal language, yet everyone speaks it in their own accent.
I have found my own meaning in running, one that may differ from that of most runners. It is not about how many medals, or how far, or how fast, but about how deeply I come to know my surroundings. Deep in listening: listening to my body, to the ground beneath my feet, and to the voices too often forgotten.
Each path seems to hold a message: the narrow alleys pressed between walls, the railway tracks where children play, and the mountains of waste rising from the hillsides. All of these are not normal situations I can ignore by closing my eyes and ears. They speak of neglect (漠视), of resilience (韧性), and of the delicate balance between humans and systems and between humans and nature. As I process these messages, I return to the wisdom of my ancestors: that nothing stands alone, and that every act, no matter how small, carries both meaning and responsibility.
So, what am I running for? I run to remember that my body is not separate from the Earth but a continuation of it. I run to remind myself that joy and care can move together, that sustainability is not measured by performance but by reciprocity (互惠). For me, running is not a race against time. It is a vow (誓言) to move lightly, to remain faithful to Mother Earth, and to honour the living world with every step.

A. The pursuit of medals and speed. B. The focus on physical performance.
C. The desire to break running records. D. The deep connection with surroundings.
26. What lesson does the author learn from his ancestors?
A. Every action carries responsibility. B. Wisdom is found only in books.
C. Independence is the key to success. D. Normal scenes should be ignored.
27. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Running: A Race Against Time B. Running: A Dialogue with the Earth

High on a hill in north London, there’s a fridge in a flowerbed. Seen from a distance, it looks completely incongruous — lying on its side, apparently half-buried in soil. However, it offers a way to keep food and produce cool without using the large quantities of electricity on which ordinary fridges depend.
Come closer and you’re struck by its size — the door as tall as a man and half as broad. Open it and you step into the earth and a small, round room lined with shelves, the whole space fairly cool on the hot summer’s day. On those shelves sits a range of food, sheltered from light and heat and kept at a steady, cool temperature. A solar-powered ventilation system lets cool air in at night, replacing the warmer air of the day.
This is a Ground Fridge — a modern innovation of Dutch inventor Floris Schonderbee based on a very old idea. Long before artificial refrigeration, people kept food and drink cool by storing it in thick-walled storage rooms or, better still, below ground in earth cellars (地窖). These practices took advantage of the fact that several feet below the surface, temperatures remain lower and more stable than they are above ground.
A fan of the Ground Fridge, Marchandise, says, “The temperature seems to stay between 8 and 15 degrees, even during heatwaves, which is ideal. We’re always in need of more storage space, not just for the produce but for everything we preserve too. And this meets that need in a way that is both very useful and practical, but also beautiful. Overall, the fridge means more space, with less stress.”
It doesn’t come cheap. A new Ground Fridge costs around £12,000. Set against that, however, it has roughly the same storage capacity as a dozen full-size family fridges and uses almost no mains electricity, making its running costs minimal.
28. What does the underlined word “incongruous” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Odd. B. Useful. C. Common. D. Attractive.
29. What’s the function of the ventilation system?
A. Blocking heat by day. B. Keeping food fresh.
C. Exchanging air at night. D. Providing light underground.
30. What can be inferred about the design concept of the Ground Fridge?
A. It saves space. B. It adopts ancient wisdom.
C. It rejects modern feature. D. It lacks scientific theory.
31. What can be said about the use of Ground Fridge?
A. A threat to modern life. B. A waste of material.
C. A comfort for family. D. Good value for money.

Taking a more mindful (留心的) approach to technology at work could help reduce stress and improve mental well-being, according to researchers at the University of Nottingham. The team has developed what it says is the first scale designed to measure “digital mindfulness” — how consciously and thoughtfully people use technology in the workplace.
The researchers surveyed around 400 UK employees over a month and found that those who scored more highly for digital mindfulness were less likely to report technostress (技术应激) and exhaustion, and more likely to report better mental well-being.
Lead researcher Elizabeth Marsh, a PhD researcher in the University’s School of Psychology, said it was not simply the amount of technology people used that mattered. “As our work and life increasingly rely on digital technology, what matters is not just how much we use it, but how we engage with it,” she said. “Digital mindfulness — engaging with our devices and applications in a conscious, attentive and non-reactive way — appears to be a genuinely protective resource for well-being in the modern workplace.”
The study identified three key aspects of digital mindfulness: using technology with a clear purpose, staying focused rather than becoming distracted (分心的), and responding with patience when things go wrong. Marsh said those habits could be developed over time. “Simple habits — setting an intention before picking up a device, protecting your attention from notifications, and meeting digital frustrations (挫败感) with self-compassion rather than self-criticism — can all help,” she said.
The researchers concluded that the way people interact with technology should be considered alongside wider efforts to improve workplace well-being. Digital technologies are now central to how we work, but their downsides for well-being — technostress, overload and burnout — are increasingly clear. This research shows that how individuals engage with technology is an important part of the picture, alongside organisational and design responses.
32. What is the purpose of the scale developed by the University of Nottingham team?
A. To limit the working hours spent online. B. To evaluate the manner of tech usage.
C. To count the number of digital devices. D. To replace the traditional stress tests.
33. What does Elizabeth think is vital for well-being in digital workplaces?
A. The type of applications employed. B. The frequency of technology use.
C. The quantity of technology used daily. D. The way employees relate to technology.
34. How can employees develop digital mindfulness habits?
A. By practising consciously. B. By following rules of workplaces.
C. By avoiding digital notifications. D. By focusing on fixing digital errors.
35. Which field may benefit from the research?
A. Technology. B. Medicine. C. Management. D. Education.

We often hear about “resilience (韧性)” and its connection to building a healthy lifestyle. Resilience is the ability to adapt and recover from difficult situations. 36 However, knowing what resilience is differs from knowing how it works. Resilience involves behaviours, thoughts, and actions that anyone can learn and develop. It helps to think of resilience through four core components, each of which can help you to develop it in different ways: connection, wellness, healthy thinking, and meaning.
Build connection.
One of the most important ways to build resilience is to build social connections. Connections can be a source of comfort, encouragement, a sense of belonging, and sometimes practical help. 37 Some methods for building connections include prioritizing personal relationships, joining a community group of some kind, and developing support systems.
Support wellness.
38 We should therefore foster (促进) wellness by taking care of our bodies and minds and avoiding negative outlets. Eating well, physical activity, getting enough sleep, and having access to healthcare all influence a person’s ability to respond to stress.
39
Healthy thinking does not mean “toxic (有毒的) positivity” or denying hardship. Rather, it means balancing how you look at a challenging situation. On one hand, you could look at it as permanent and hopeless. That may be an understandable viewpoint, but not an objectively correct one. On the other hand, you could acknowledge the difficulty of a situation while still choosing constructive responses.
Find meaning.
Finding a purpose in life guides us towards resilience by framing our experience in the context of something greater than ourselves. This can come in the form of helping others, ongoing learning, spirituality, community life, or having goals and making progress towards them. 40
A. Try to stay mentally strong.
B. Practise healthy way of thinking.
C. All of them can strengthen resilience.
D. Setting life goals is the best way to build our resilience.
E. Creating more opportunities for self-discovery is also helpful.
F. Resilience is more difficult if the body and mind are not functioning healthily.
G. It is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to challenging life experiences.

Since the day Hudson, affectionately called “Huddy” by our family, came into my world, he has been teaching me what love truly means. As his mother, I have watched this little boy — with his bright eyes and endless curiosity — light up every corner of our lives.
From his earliest days, he never looked at people with judgment or hesitation; to Huddy, everyone is a potential friend deserving of love. I often find myself telling friends and neighbours to “Live like Huddy” because he simply doesn’t see the differences that often separate adults. He loves everyone with an open heart, and this natural warmth has always been his way of moving through the world.
One cool autumn morning, Huddy and I made a last-minute decision to stop at a comfortable diner near our home for breakfast. The warm smell of coffee and pancakes filled the air as we stepped inside. As we sat at table, I expected Huddy to focus immediately on his food. However, his sharp, curious eyes were scanning the room, observing the people around us.
His eyes eventually fixed on a senior man sitting alone at a corner table. The elderly gentleman was eating slowly, his head bowed slightly, looking lonely against the backdrop of the lively restaurant. Huddy watched him for a long moment, his small brow furrowing (皱眉) in concern.
“Mommy,” he whispered, leaning closer to me. “Why is that grandpa sitting all by himself? Where are his children?” I gently explained that the man’s children had likely grown up, moved away, and were perhaps busy with their own lives. But this logical explanation did not sit well with my three-year-old. The concept of someone eating alone felt fundamentally wrong to him. He looked from his own plate to the lonely man, and I could see the wheels turning in his mind. To Huddy, a meal was meant to be shared, and company was just as important as the food itself.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then, with a determination that surprised me, he made a simple but powerful choice.
He welcomed Huddy’s company, and soon, they were chatting like old friends.
