二、阅读理解
People do not always need words to say hello. A smile, a nod or a small wave can show friendliness before a conversation begins. These gestures are especially useful when people are too far apart to speak, when a room is noisy or when someone does not want to interrupt others.
Each gesture sends a slightly different message. A smile makes a greeting feel warm. A nod can politely recognize another person in a quiet place. A wave attracts attention across a street or a crowded room. Eye contact may show that the greeting is meant for one particular person.
However, a gesture should fit the situation. A big wave may be natural at a sports event but distracting during a meeting. Meanings can also vary between cultures. For this reason, people should notice how others respond. If someone looks uncomfortable, a simple smile may be the better choice.
Nonverbal greetings are silent, but they are not meaningless. They can open the door to spoken communication and help people feel noticed. The best greeting is not always the biggest one. It is the one that respects the place, the people and the moment.
6. Why are gestures useful in some situations?
A. They make every conversation much longer for strangers
B. They always replace spoken greetings in formal meetings
C. They communicate friendliness when speaking is difficult
D. They teach people how to learn foreign languages
7. What does the word “silent” probably mean in paragraph 4?
A. Done without using any spoken words
B. Shared only with some close friends
C. Difficult for other people to notice
D. Common in one particular foreign country
8. What should people consider when choosing a gesture?
A. The price of clothes worn by others
B. The number of people walking nearby
C. The weather during their first meeting
D. The situation and the other person's response
9. What can we infer from the passage?
A. All gestures have exactly the same meaning everywhere
B. Watching reactions helps prevent possible greeting misunderstandings
C. A louder voice is always much more respectful
D. Formal meetings never include any friendly gestures
10. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Why People Forget Names After First Meetings
B. How Spoken Language Changes Around the World
C. How Simple Gestures Help People Say Hello
D. Why Every Greeting Needs a Long Conversation

二、阅读理解
People do not always need words to say hello. A smile, a nod or a small wave can show friendliness before a conversation begins. These gestures are especially useful when people are too far apart to speak, when a room is noisy or when someone does not want to interrupt others.
Each gesture sends a slightly different message. A smile makes a greeting feel warm. A nod can politely recognize another person in a quiet place. A wave attracts attention across a street or a crowded room. Eye contact may show that the greeting is meant for one particular person.
However, a gesture should fit the situation. A big wave may be natural at a sports event but distracting during a meeting. Meanings can also vary between cultures. For this reason, people should notice how others respond. If someone looks uncomfortable, a simple smile may be the better choice.
Nonverbal greetings are silent, but they are not meaningless. They can open the door to spoken communication and help people feel noticed. The best greeting is not always the biggest one. It is the one that respects the place, the people and the moment.
6. Why are gestures useful in some situations?
A. They make every conversation much longer for strangers
B. They always replace spoken greetings in formal meetings
C. They communicate friendliness when speaking is difficult
D. They teach people how to learn foreign languages
7. What does the word “silent” probably mean in paragraph 4?
A. Done without using any spoken words
B. Shared only with some close friends
C. Difficult for other people to notice
D. Common in one particular foreign country
8. What should people consider when choosing a gesture?
A. The price of clothes worn by others
B. The number of people walking nearby
C. The weather during their first meeting
D. The situation and the other person's response
9. What can we infer from the passage?
A. All gestures have exactly the same meaning everywhere
B. Watching reactions helps prevent possible greeting misunderstandings
C. A louder voice is always much more respectful
D. Formal meetings never include any friendly gestures
10. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Why People Forget Names After First Meetings
B. How Spoken Language Changes Around the World
C. How Simple Gestures Help People Say Hello
D. Why Every Greeting Needs a Long Conversation
【答案】6.C 7.A 8.D 9.B 10.C
