III. Do you often forget what you have studied, or walk into a room and forget why you went there? You are not alone. Our brains are not designed to remember everything, but the good news is that memory can be trained. In fact, many people have improved their memory with simple methods. Take Li Wei, a 16-year-old student from Shanghai, for example. He used to be very forgetful. He often forgot to bring his homework, and he could not remember English words for more than two days. He felt upset and believed he had a “bad memory”. His grades were dropping because of his poor memory. One day, he read about a memory winner. The winner said that anyone could improve their memory with the right training. Li Wei decided to give it a try. First, he learned to associate new information with something he already knew. For example, to remember the word “memorize”, he connected it with “memory”. This technique is called word association. This method was so useful that he could remember 30 new English words a week. He also started using spaced repetition (重复). Instead of repeating a word 20 times in one sitting, he reviewed it after one day, then three days, then one week. After two months, his memory improved greatly. He never forgot his homework again. He also encouraged his classmates to join him. Now, Li Wei wants to share his method with others. He is starting a “Memory Training Group” at his school. The group meets twice a week. Members take short memory tests and share their own tips. 1.What problem did Li Wei have before he trained his memory? A.He often missed school. B.He had no friends. C.He hated studying. D.He could not remember English words. 2.What does the underlined word “associate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Forget. B.Connect. C.Repeat. D.Write. 3.Why did Li Wei use spaced repetition? A.To learn more words in one night. B.To remember words without studying. C.To remember words longer. D.To make words more difficult. 4.What is the correct order of the passage? ① Li Wei shared his method and started a memory training group. ② Li Wei was very forgetful and couldn’t remember English words. ③ Li Wei learned word association and spaced repetition to improve his memory. ④ Li Wei read something about a memory winner. A.④→②→③→① B.②→④→③→① C.②→①→④→③ D.③→④→①→② 5.What is the best title for the passage? A.A Forgetful Student. B.How to Train Your Memory. C.The Importance of Sleep. D.Li Wei’s School Life. B篇 No one is born with a perfect memory. Luckily, everyone can train their brain if they try. Here is some advice on improving memory.   Try to use new information at once. For example, if you learn a formula, don’t just read it. Use it to solve a problem. Say “▲”.   Break a long text into shorter sections. For example, it’s hard to remember a 100-word passage. But if you divide it into three parts, it becomes easier.   Write out what you need to remember again and again. This helps you keep it in mind longer, especially for memorizing dates or names.   Always review knowledge. For example, before you go to bed, it’s a good idea to look through the new words you learned that day.   Discuss with a partner. It is always easier to remember things through talks. You can have a discussion about the main idea, and it will lead to better understanding.   All of the suggestions are helpful. If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory. 6.Which should be put in “▲” in Paragraph 2? A.I will read this formula. B.I will use this formula to work out the answer. C.This formula is difficult. D.Let’s forget the formula. 7.How can we memorize a long text more easily according to the passage? A.By storing it in a phone. B.By discussing it with a teacher. C.By breaking it into shorter sections. D.By reviewing it after a week. 8.What can we learn from this passage? A.Dates can help you learn things quickly. B.Reviewing information can help you sleep. C.We can improve our memory with computers. D.Discussing with partners is very helpful if you want to remember things. 9.Which shows the structure of the passage? (P=paragraph) A.①/②③④⑤⑥/⑦ B.①/②/③/④/⑤/⑥/⑦ C.①②/③④⑤⑥/⑦ D.①/②③④/⑤⑥⑦ 10.What is the main purpose of this passage? A.To help us to remember everything. B.To tell us why we forget things easily. C.To show us how computers remember things. D.To offer us advice on how to improve memory. C篇 We all know memory is necessary to succeed in studying. How to improve memory? One way might be walking backwards. Walking backwards, whether doing it really or imagining it, can improve the brain power in the short term. Researchers did an interesting memory test. 114 volunteers watched a video in which a woman had her bag stolen. Then they answered 20 questions about the information in the video. Ten minutes after watching the video, the researchers asked the volunteers to divide into three groups. The first two groups moved forwards or backwards 10 metres while the third group stayed still on the same point. The researchers found that the backwards-walking group got two more correct answers on average than the other two groups. When we walk backwards, everything we learn becomes strange to us. “This forces the brain to think in a different way,” Christine Weber, the researcher from the US, told Forbes. It almost always means that our brain needs to be more active and able to think quickly in the short time. Naturally, our short-term memory will improve a lot. Not only improving our memory, walking backwards also helps us keep fit. Compared to walking forwards, backwards-walking puts less pressure and needs smaller movements from the knee joints so that there will be less pain in the knees. What’s more, it is more challenging. You should use muscles and movements that you probably hardly use, making it a perfect way to change your daily exercise for greater fitness. By making people put in more effort, it burns more fat and calories. However, be careful, because it will let you get hurt if you have a sore neck. 11.From the memory test, we can know ________. A.there were three groups of volunteers before watching the video B.the first two groups got more right answers than the third group C.the third group didn’t move but other groups moved 20 metres D.the backwards-walking group did the best in the test 12.Which of the following is true about backwards-walking? A.It can improve our memory in the long term. B.It can help us pay more attention to important things. C.It can force our brain to work faster and better. D.It can help us use less muscles when we exercise. 13. When we walk forwards, in which part will there be more pressure than walking backwards? A. B. C. D. 14.Where can we read the passage? A.In a history textbook. B.In a travel guide. C.On a health website. D.In an education magazine. 15.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Different ways to improve our shortterm memory at school. B.Walking backwards is a helpful way for our brain and body. C.Why doing sports can change people’s daily study habits. D.An interesting test about volunteers’ different living habits. IV. 阅读表达(10分) Having a good memory is the key to learning effectively. But if you’ve ever found it hard to remember information even after reading your notes repeatedly, perhaps you’re not studying in the best way. While there are many methods that can help you remember better, the most effective ones involve making meaningful connections between pieces of information. This idea is called the “baker paradox(悖论)”, and it was proved in an experiment. In the experiment, researchers divided people into two groups and showed them a photo of a man’s face. The first group was told the man’s name was Baker, while the second group was told the man worked as a baker. A few days later, researchers asked both groups about the man’s identity(身份). The result was surprising. People remembered the man’s job more easily than his name, even though both words were the same. Why did this happen? After all, the word “baker” was the same for both people. Here’s the reason. When you hear that someone works as a baker, your mind connects this fact to a network of meaningful ideas. You might picture someone baking bread, wearing a tall white hat, or smelling freshly baked goods. These connections create a story in your brain, making the information easier to recall. In fact, the name “Baker” doesn’t form the same kind of meaningful connections. It’s only linked to the man’s face, which is a weak connection. If you forget the face, you may also forget the name completely. The “baker paradox” shows that memory works best when new information is tied to meaningful stories or images. So, if you want to remember something better, try linking it to a story or something familiar. This simple trick can make all the difference. 1. What was the second group told about the man? ___________________________________________________ 2. What surprising result did the researchers get from the experiment? ___________________________________________________ 3. What can our brain do when we hear a person is a baker?(答出一点即可) ___________________________________________________ 4. According to the “baker paradox”, when can we get the best memory effect? ___________________________________________________ 5. What other useful way do you use to improve your memory?(开放性试题) ___________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027学年九上Unit4 Section B(1a-1e)限时练答案 Ⅰ. 2 passage n. 3 fuels n. 4 engine n. 5 password n. 6 discuss v. 讨论;ask sb. to do sth.,to 后接动词原形。 7 address n. 地址;write your name and address 写下姓名和地址。 8 observed v. 9 organized v. 10 techniques n. 11 effective adj. 12 memorize v. 记忆;it is +adj.+to do sth,to 后接动词原形;memory 名词→memorize 动词。 13 likely adj. It’s likely to do… 14 to boost 疑问词 + 不定式结构;how to do sth. boost v. 15 forgot v. 17 using try doing sth. 18 view(s) n. 观点;view 可数,单数复数均可;share one’s view/views on… 19 addresses n. 20 worn 固定短语 be worn out 磨损;筋疲力尽;wear 过去分词 worn。 Ⅱ. 用方框短语正确形式填空(共 20 分,每空 2 分) 短语库:pay attention;wear out;make use of;to start with;take a break;link…to…;make meaningful connections;create images;reduce stress;make up 1.
