For two months White Fang had lived among the men of the camp, and in that time he had learned much. He had learned that the man-animals were masters, that their voices were law, and that their hands were to be feared when they were raised in anger. But he had also learned that one man-animal, the boy who called himself Weedon Scott, was different. This man did not strike him, did not shout at him, and even brought him meat from his own plate.
The other dogs of the camp hated White Fang with a bitter hatred. They were all half-wild curs, bred for fighting, and they saw in the lean, silent wolf-dog a rival who must be driven out or killed. Every day they gathered around him, snarling, snapping, daring him to fight. White Fang stood his ground, his lips drawn back over his white fangs, his eyes blazing with a cold, deadly light. He had fought too many fights in the wild to be cowed by a pack of yapping curs.
One afternoon, as Weedon Scott sat on the ground cleaning his rifle, the big mastiff Skagos, the fiercest dog in the camp, crept up behind him. Skagos had been bribed by the other dogs to attack the boy, to drive the strange wolf-dog away by killing his protector. With a low growl, the great dog sprang, his jaws wide open to fasten on the boy's throat.
White Fang was standing ten feet away, watching. In that instant, all the wild blood of his wolf-ancestors, all the cruel cunning of his mother Kiche, all the hard lessons of the wild, surged through him. He did not think, he did not hesitate. Like a bolt of gray lightning he launched himself across the space between them, his body striking Skagos in mid-leap. The two great beasts rolled over and over on the ground, snapping, tearing, growling. White Fang fought with a ferocity that none of the camp dogs had ever seen. He did not fight to drive his enemy away, but to kill. In less than a minute, he had seized Skagos by the throat and shaken him till his neck broke. The big mastiff lay still, and White Fang stood over him, his chest heaving, his fangs red with blood, looking at the boy who had fed him and been kind to him.
Weedon Scott did not run, did not shout. He only reached out his hand and laid it on White Fang’s head. “Good boy,” he said softly.
From that moment, a new thing came into White Fang’s life. For the first time in all his years, he knew what it meant to be loved. He curled up at the boy's feet that night, and for the first time he slept without one ear open, without listening for the sound of an enemy. He had found his master, and he would serve him, fight for him, die for him, all the days of his life.
44.Why does White Fang attack Skagos with all his strength?
A.Skagos has made White Fang angry, trying to get the position of camp leader.
B.Skagos is encouraged by other dogs to attack White Fang’s master Weedon Scott.
C.White Fang wants to kill Skagos to prove he is the strongest dog in the camp.
D.Skagos steals White Fang's food, and the two have long held the dislikes against each other.
45.Which of the following descriptions of Weedon Scott matches the passage?
A.He is the only person in the camp brave enough to train White Fang, and often beats him to make him obey orders.
B.Like other people in the camp, he thinks White Fang is a dangerous animal.
C.He shares meat from his own plate with White Fang instead of beating him.
D.He trains White Fang to take part in dog fighting matches, hoping to win prize money.
46.What is the final result of the fight between White Fang and Skagos?
A.The two fight to a draw, and Skagos escapes with injuries.
B.White Fang is bitten and injured by Skagos, and is finally saved only after Weedon Scott shoots Skagos.
C.In less than a minute, White Fang bites through Skagos’s throat and kills him.
D.Other camp dogs take advantage of the chaos to attack, and White Fang is beaten to death.
47.How does White Fang feel after the fight ends?
A.He hates all humans and plans to find a chance to run away from the camp.
B.For the first time, he experiences what it means to be loved.
C.He thinks he has become the new leader of the camp.
D.He begins to hate Weedon Scott for not stepping forward to help him drive Skagos away in time.
48.What role does the scene described in the passage play in the whole story of White Fang?
A.It is a memory of White Fang’s childhood, when he lived with his mother Kiche in the forest.
B.It’s the turning point where White Fang completely lets go of his wild nature and accepts human trust.
C.It is the part where White Fang takes part in his first dog fighting match.

My sister came home one evening with a book about zero waste. 49 We did not believe that a family of four could live without a big rubbish bag, but we decided to try for one month.
The first change was the shopping bag. 50 My mother bought four cloth bags and put them in the car. The second change was the kitchen. We began to buy vegetables which were not wrapped in plastic, and to cook only as much as we could eat.
The third week was the hardest. 51 We had to wash and dry them before they could be used again, and my little brother hated this job most.
Then, slowly, things became easier. 52 We even found a shop which sold rice and beans by weight, and we took our own boxes there.
After one month, our rubbish had fallen from five bags a week to two. 53 But we also learned that the first step is always the most difficult.
A.Before that, we threw away more than ten plastic bags every week.
B.She asked us to try one month without throwing anything away.
C.We started to keep every glass bottle and every box in the kitchen.
D.My father even began to bring his own cup to work.
E.We are not a zero-waste family yet.

On July 15, 2026, a piece of surprising news came from the literary world. Wang Jibing, a 56-year-old food delivery rider (外卖骑手), won the Lu Xun Literature Prize for his poetry collection Flying Low. This made him the first delivery rider to receive this honor in the history of the award.
Wang’s winning work, Flying Low, is his third poetry collection. To write it, he interviewed more than 140 delivery riders and sent out 60 questionnaires. He stuck to recording the real lives of his fellow riders — their struggles (挣扎), hopes and dreams. That’s why he could become successful.
Wang’s journey as a writer was long and difficult. He was born in 1969 and left school early. He fell in love with writing in 1988 and it soon became his favorite way to express his feelings. And he thought writing was a fantastic way to explore his inner world. But for many years, his work was never published, yet he never stopped creating. He did many jobs: construction worker, street vendor, garbage collector. In 2002, he moved to Kunshan with only 500 yuan. In 2018, he became a food delivery rider and his poetry comes from the real lives.
His most famous poem, The Man Who Rushes Against Time, was written during a delivery. He climbed to the 6th floor three times for wrong addresses. All three orders were late. After apologizing to each customer, he wrote the poem on his way home. Three years later, a friend shared it online, and it got over 10 million views. Wang Jibing said, “That’s when I realized I was not the only one rushing against time.”
Wang Jibing still works as a delivery rider today. His story shows that not only famous people deserve (值得) our admiration. Many ordinary people in daily life, who stick to their dreams and love in ordinary positions and achieve something, are also worth admiring.
54.Did Wang Jibing win the Lu Xun Literature Prize for his poetry collection?
55.What makes Wang Jibing a successful writer?
56.What did Wang Jibing think of writing? (One example is OK.)
57.Why does this passage mention Wang Jibing’s The Man Who Rushes Against Time?
58.Who is the person you admire? What can you learn from him or her?

D.It is the final ending of the story, where White Fang finally chooses to return to the wild.

F.So we bought a big box of plastic bags and used them every day.

55.根据第二段中“He stuck to recording the real lives of his fellow riders — their struggles, hopes and dreams. That’s why he could become successful.”可知,他坚持记录同行骑手的真实生活,这是他成功的原因。提取信息,用动名词短语做主语:Sticking to recording the real lives of his fellow riders makes him a successful writer.
56.根据第三段中“He fell in love with writing in 1988 and it soon became his favorite way to express his feelings.”或“he thought writing was a fantastic way to explore his inner world.”
To show his poetry comes from real lives.

Changes in My Hometown
Great changes have taken place in my hometown in recent years.
In the past, the roads were narrow. Now there are wide roads and more buses, so transport becomes much easier. People used to live in small old houses, but now many families move into bright new flats. Besides, the environment is greener. We have new parks and libraries for people to relax.
I’m amazed at these wonderful changes. I hope my hometown will become even better.
