These days, a popular cartoon movie Niu Lai touches many people. It has no cool magic or exciting fights. It tells a warm and true story about growth, courage and kindness, and becomes popular among students and young adults.
The story happens on a quiet grassland. The main character is a weak young calf called Niu Lai. When he was born, he was shy and weak and could not stand well. He was afraid of wind, storms and small animals. His mother always encouraged him to be brave and strong. One day, a hurt lark (云雀) came to the grassland and met Niu Lai. The two lonely little animals had a long dream together.
In the dream, Niu Lai faced many difficulties. The grassland had a bad drought (干旱). Hungry wolves often came to attack. Other animals refused him because he made friends with a young leopard. He felt lonely and painful and lost some family and friends. Little by little, the shy calf grew strong, responsible and brave. He tried his best to protect his friends and group and turned into a reliable leader.
The dream ended suddenly. Niu Lai woke up back to real life. All troubles were gone, but he was not timid any more. He stood firmly and got the courage to face life.
This simple but meaningful movie moves many viewers. Many teenagers feel stressed in study and life. They are afraid of failure and difficulties. People see themselves in Niu Lai. The movie tells us that growth is never easy. Every difficulty teaches us a lot. True courage is not having no fear, but moving on when you are scared. Most students learn that no one is born strong. Growth needs experience and persistence.

Do you yawn (打哈欠)? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.
We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.
Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.
Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (拉伸) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things.
In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.
Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do.

A. Reasons for yawning. B. Advantages of yawning.
C. Disadvantages of yawning. D. Different ideas about yawning.
36. What would be the best structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

It was my first day at school. It was also Miss Caroline’s first day to be a teacher.
Miss Caroline began the day by reading us a story about cats. Then she started to teach us the alphabet (字母表).
When Miss Caroline discovered that I was literate (有读写能力的), she said, “Tell your father not to teach you any more. It’s best to begin reading and writing with a fresh mind.”
After supper that night, Atticus sat down with the paper and called, “Scout, ready to read?” I told Atticus I didn’t feel very well and didn’t think I’d go to school any more if it was all right with him.
“You never went to school and you do all right, so I’ll just stay home too. You can teach me like Granddaddy taught you.”
“No, I can’t,” said Atticus. “I have to make a living. Besides, they’d put me in prison if I kept you at home. Now what’s the matter?”
I told him what happened at school. “Miss Caroline said you taught me all wrong, so we can’t ever read any more. Please don’t send me back, please sir.”
“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of people. You never really understand a person until you think about things from his point of view”.
“Sir?”
“—until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Atticus continued (继续), “You learned many things today. Miss Caroline learned several things herself. We could not expect her to learn all our ways in one day, and we should understand her when she knew no better.”
“But if I keep on going to school, we can’t ever read any more…”
“That’s really worrying you, isn’t it?”
“Yes, sir.”
When Atticus looked at me, I saw the look on his face that always made me expect something. “Do you know what a compromise (妥协)is?” he asked.
“Breaking the law?”
“No, an agreement. It works this way,” he said. “If you promise (答应) me to go to school, we’ll go on reading every night as usual. Is it OK?”
“Yes sir!”
—Adapted from To Kill a Mockingbird《杀死一只知更鸟》

38. What did Scout agree to do at the end of the story?
A. Go to school. B. Stay at home. C. Teach herself. D. Make a living.

B. Because he wanted Scout to listen to him.

六、阅读回答(5小题;每题2分,共10分)
The word zhiyin, which means close friends, comes from the story of Yu Boya (俞伯牙) and Zhong Ziqi (钟子期) in the Warring States Period (战国时期).
Boya was good at playing guqin (古琴). One day, he was playing music. To Boya’s surprise, Ziqi, a woodcutter (樵夫), who happened to pass by, could understand what he wanted to express through his music. After a long talk, they became good friends. Since Boya had to return to his state, they agreed to meet again in the following year.
Unluckily, when getting back to visit Ziqi, Boya heard that his friend died of an illness. Boya was so sad and in front of Ziqi’s tomb (墓), he played again the music he had played when they first met. The feeling of the music was so strong that it was as if the rivers and the mountains were crying. When finishing playing, Boya broke his guqin into pieces. From then on, Boya never played again.
People in the Song Dynasty built the Guqin Tai in Hanyang (汉阳古琴台) to remember the deep friendship between Boya and Ziqi. It became an important part of the local culture.
Zhiyin culture has new development now. The famous ancient Chinese classical music piece Gaoshan Liushui was performed during the G20 Summit (峰会) in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The musical performance showed not only the beauty of traditional Chinese culture, but also China’s wish to develop its friendship with people from around the world.

主句为一般过去时asked,遵循“主过从过”原则,从句要根据需要选择相应的过去时态。宾语从句要用陈述语序,且ask后接带有疑问含义的从句,不能用that引导。A项存在结构与时态错误,how不可与be like连用,且will应改为would;C项语序错误,what was the matter with the computer中what本身作主语,无需调整为what the matter was;D项that引导陈述句,和ask表询问的语义不匹配;B项whether表“是否”,从句使用陈述语序,can变为could符合时态要求,应选B项。

Is it OK?”
“Yes sir!”

【答案】例文
Hi Simon,
I’m sorry to hear that you are under a lot of stress at school. I’d like to give some advice.
First, you should develop good living habits and stop staying up late, because poor sleep will make you sleepy and unable to follow teachers in class. Second, focus your full attention when you study, or distractions will waste lots of your valuable study time. Third, cut down your time on the mobile phone. You can play football after finishing your homework, since proper sports can relax your body and clear your mind. Last, learn to ask for help. When you feel stressed, talk with your teachers or parents. They can give you useful advice and comfort you when you feel upset.
