Many people may throw away the pits after eating fruit, but inheritors of fruit pit carving (果核雕刻) have turned them into artworks.
Weifang fruit pit carving goes back to the Qing dynasty. Back then, craftsmen often used peach pits to show off their artistic skills. Because of the high level of carving skills needed, the traditional culture and its rich artistic themes, the Weifang fruit pit carving craft was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产) in 2008.
“Pits can be made into pendants (饰坠), earrings, seals (印章) and so on,” says Tan Wanhai, an inheritor of Weifang fruit pit carving. Tan has studied the art of fruit pit carving for about 30 years and has created many carvings.
However, the craftsman also says that bringing this kind of artwork to life is not easy. “Unlike olive pits which have flat surfaces, each peach pit has its own special texture (纹理) like human fingerprints,” Tan says, adding that craftsmen have to study each peach pit to carefully plan out their artworks.
Fruit pit carving craftsmen also need to have knowledge in many fields. According to Tan, they have to master skills in painting, seal carving and calligraphy (书法) from many traditional cultures.
Thanks to their creative design and fresh ideas, Weifang fruit pit carving artworks have been increasingly welcomed by people in China. More people are learning the art and have even become inheritors to pass down the skill to young people.
“I believe the number of inheritors will be larger. More craftsmen now give up the tradition of passing down the skill only through the family and open it up to anyone who is interested in learning the skill,” says Tan.

D. Each peach pit has a flat surface and it’s easy to carve on it.
4. What’s the best title for the passage?

I wanted to go and look at a place in the middle of the island that I had found when I was exploring. We started and soon got to it, because the island was only three miles long and a quarter of a mile wide.
This place was a hill about forty feet high. We had a hard time getting to the top. The sides were so steep and the trees were so thick. We walked and climbed around all over it, and found a big hole in the rock. It was a good place to play our game. The hole was as big as two or three rooms, and Jim could stand up straight in it. It was cool there. Jim wanted to put our things there, but I said we didn’t want to be climbing up and down there all the time.
Jim said if we had the boat hidden in a good place and put all the things in the hole, we could rush there when anybody was to come to the island. They would never find us without dogs. Besides, he said that little birds had said it was going to rain. We didn’t want the things to get wet.
So we went back and got the boat, and pulled all the things up there. Then we found a place close by to hide the boat in, among the thick willows. We took some fish off the lines and set them again, and began to get ready for dinner.
The door of the hole was big enough to roll a hogshead (大桶) in, and there was also a good place to build a fire. So we built a fire and cooked dinner. We spread the blankets inside, and ate our dinner. We put all the other things at the back of the hole.
Pretty soon it darkened and began to thunder. Directly it began to rain, and I never saw the wind blow so heavily. It was one of these regular summer storms. It would get so dark that it looked all blue-black outside.
“Jim, this is nice,” I said. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here. Pass me another piece of fish and some hot bread.”
“Well, if it weren’t for Jim, you wouldn’t stay here. You would stay in the woods, without food, and you would get half-dead from the shower. That’s true, dear. The chickens know when it rains, and so do the birds. I know.”

A. what;until B. what;unless C. how;if D. how;until

7. He kept practising football and his hard work _____ at last.

A、C都是疑问语序(was there / is there),直接排除。D选项用了“there is going to have”,这是典型的错误表达,there be句型不能和have混用。B选项“if there is going to be”语序正确,且if引导“是否”。

①the high level of carving skills needed ②its rich artistic themes
③the traditional culture ④the popularity around the world

I know.”

1. 空缺处前文为“The piece which was played on the erhu especially moved me.(二胡演奏的这首曲子尤其打动了我。)”以及后文为“But under the beauty I sensed a strong sadness and pain.(但在美的背后,我感受到了强烈的悲伤和痛苦。)” B选项“The music was strangely beautiful.(这首乐曲美得出奇。)”
2. 空缺处位于第二段段首,第一段末尾提到“The piece had a simple name, “Erquan Yingyue”, but it was one of the most moving pieces of music that I’d ever heard.(这首曲子有一个简单的名字《二泉映月》,但它是我听过的最动人的乐曲之一。)” A选项“The music was written by Abing.(这首乐曲是阿炳创作的。)”
3. 空缺处位于第二段末尾,前文为“He lived on the streets and played music to make money.(他露宿街头,靠演奏音乐赚钱。)” D选项“He performed in this way for many years.(他以这种方式表演了很多年。)”
