A
Do you always try to improve yourself just for others’ approval (认可)? If so, you may be having difficulty understanding your self‑worth
Self‑worth isn’t about what you look like, what you achieve, or what others think of you. True self‑worth comes from within. It means valuing yourself for who you are. When you understand your worth, you’ll be proud of being yourself. So, what can you do to develop a strong sense of self‑worth?
First, start by acknowledging things you do well. Maybe you always listen to friends and family. Perhaps when facing problems, you always remain calm and try to solve them. No matter how small these things seem, noticing them and valuing them can help you think better of yourself.
Another key step is to accept your weaknesses. You can’t do everything well. When you don’t do a good job, don’t be too hard on yourself. Instead, treat yourself kindly. View these weaknesses as chances to grow, not reasons to feel “not good enough”.
Don’t connect your worth to those external factors (外部因素) like someone’s opinion or the result of a project. Base your sense of worth on who you are and what you do.
Remember: Knowing your worth means fully accepting yourself.
1. Which of the following questions does Paragraph 2 answer?
A. What does true self‑worth mean?
B. How does self‑worth influence your life?

Sometimes, families can be hard. People argue a lot. They get upset. Sometimes they stop talking. I’d say arguments often happen in our family too. Our family has had lots of ups and downs.
I have an older brother and an older sister. I’m the baby boy in the family. We grew up in quite a small house and didn’t have a lot of money. My mum and dad argued, pretty much all the time, just about anything. My brother and sister argued. And I used to argue.
But as I got older, I always chose to be the mediator (调解人). I would try to look at both sides of the argument and bring them together to make peace. “Dad, you shouldn’t say that to Mum, but Mum, try to see it this way.” “Come on guys, we all love each other. It’s just been a bad day.” I’d say it often worked.
I acquired much growing up in our family: understanding, being patient and the knowledge that sometimes things just don’t go your way. We all make mistakes. We all say things that we wish we hadn’t. The key is to try and understand. Of course, sometimes, arguments do need to happen. If something is wrong, it needs to be solved and sometimes, we get angry about it. But as long as we can reflect (反省) and look at things with an attitude (态度) of care and responsibility, we can weather the storm and help each other out.

后文that I wanted to take part in my school theatre programme是决定表演的原因,decide to do sth.

After watching this film, I want to say, “We cannot change others’ minds easily, so just be ourselves. If we are doing what we think is right, just do it. Don’t be influenced by others’ opinions.”
Now, I’ve changed a lot. I pay more attention to myself and speak out my ideas bravely. If I don’t want to do something, I will turn it down. I have to say that good films are really important for shaping our values.

Last Friday, an argument happened between my best friend and me in our classroom. We worked on a group project. We had different ideas, and we were so angry that we didn’t talk to each other.
Later, I calmed down. I tried to listen to my friend’s real thoughts patiently. I found that his idea was also good. Then we talked with each other politely and combined our two ideas. Finally, we finished our project well.
This story tells me that understanding is very important in relationships. When we have disagreements with others, we should try to listen to others and think from their side. Good communication helps us get on well with people around us.

A
Do you always try to improve yourself just for others’ approval (认可)?

Ne Zha 2 is an amazing film and lots of people went to the cinema to watch it. I also watched it with my friends. The film shows Ne Zha’s growth. At first, Ne Zha was an impulsive (冲动的) boy. Later, after going through a lot of challenges, he began to realise his own problems and then changed himself, becoming someone who did the right thing.
After watching the movie, some thoughts came to my mind. I used to care what people thought of me. I always worried no one liked me. So I seldom refused others’ requests and easily agreed with others’ opinions. But now I ask myself, “Is that important? The prejudice (偏见) in people’s minds is like a mountain, which can’t be removed however hard we try.” It’s just like after the Chentang Pass was destroyed (摧毁), everyone thought it was Shen Gongbao who did it.
