When our school announced a short-film competition, most students picked up their phones and started filming. Jenny, however, had no proper camera and no actors — only a box of plasticine her little brother never played with. So she decided to make a stop-motion film: she would photograph her clay figures again and again, moving each of them one tiny step between every two pictures.
It sounded simple. It was not. Her first scene took a whole evening, and the result lasted only eight seconds on screen. The figures kept falling over, and the warm lamp made their arms soft and clumsy, like hands made of wet paper. Worst of all, her brother once opened the door, and the shadow of his head crossed the whole wall — she had to shoot the scene again from the very beginning.
Jenny did not give up. She fixed her figures onto double-sided tape, moved the lamp further away, and hung a thick curtain over the door. Night after night, her desk became a tiny world: a paper sea, a cardboard dragon, a brave little sailor made of orange plasticine. For one second of film she needed twenty-four pictures; for three minutes she needed more than four thousand.
When the film was finally shown at the competition, the audience laughed, then grew quiet, and at the end applauded for a long time. The judges gave it the prize for the best short film. "People ask me how a phone and a box of plasticine can win," Jenny said afterwards. "The secret is simple: I moved my sailor one small step at a time — four thousand times."
24.Why did Jenny decide to make a stop-motion film?
A.She wanted to bring her clay figures to life without actors or a proper camera.
B.Her teacher asked every student to use plasticine.
C.She thought stop-motion films were easier to make.
D.Her little brother wanted to act in a film.
25.What was one of the difficulties Jenny met?
A.Her phone could not take clear pictures. B.The lamp made the figures soft and awkward.
C.The school refused to lend her the hall. D.Her brother broke her plasticine box.
26.What does the underlined word "clumsy" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Smooth and soft. B.Strong and hard.
C.Heavy and shiny. D.Awkward and unsteady.
27.What message does the story convey?
A.Expensive equipment is the key to a good film.
B.Winning a competition is largely a matter of luck.
C.Great results come from patience and small steady steps.
D.Young artists should always work alone.
C
Watch a frightening scene with the sound turned off, and something strange happens: your heart keeps its usual calm. Turn the music back on, and within seconds your hands are cold and your mouth is dry. The picture has not changed — only the music has. Film makers know this secret well: the picture shows us what happens, but the music tells us how to feel.
Psychologists at a university once proved the point with a simple experiment. They showed the same sixty-second cartoon scene to two groups of students. One group heard gentle piano music; the other heard quick, playful strings. The first group described the scene as a sad farewell between two friends; the second group was sure it was a funny game. Not one student guessed that the scene had been designed as neither.
Composers use many tools to guide our feelings. Speed is one: a chase scene feels faster when the music's tempo speeds up with it. Instruments are another — deep drums suggest danger, a lone violin suggests loneliness, and a warm piano often means that the characters are safe at last. Some famous films even give each main character a little tune of his or her own, so that the audience feels a character's return before he appears on the screen.
So the next time a film brings tears to your eyes, listen carefully as well as watch. The tears are not only for the story; they are also for the invisible artist in the music room, who has been playing with your heart all along.
28.According to the passage, what does film music do?
A.It explains the story to the audience. B.It tells the audience how to feel.
C.It makes the picture look brighter. D.It covers the noise of the cinema.
29.What did the experiment with two soundtracks show?
A.The same scene felt different with different music.
B.Students prefer piano music to string music.
C.Cartoon scenes are hard for students to understand.
D.Music makes films shorter but more exciting.
30.How can composers make a chase scene feel even faster?
A.By using deep drums. B.By turning off the sound.
C.By speeding up the music's tempo. D.By giving each character a tune.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Good film music should always make the audience cry.
B.The music composer is an invisible artist shaping our feelings.
C.The audience should watch films with the sound turned off.
D.The story matters less than the music in a film.

For many years, Chinese cartoon makers faced a difficult question: should they imitate the American mouse or the Japanese robot? The pioneers of Chinese animation answered it in their own way — by looking into their own culture.
In the early 1960s, artists at the Shanghai Animation Film Studio invented a new form: ink-wash animation. In their films, deer, tadpoles and buffalo seemed to walk straight out of a traditional Chinese scroll painting, every line moving softly like ink meeting water. The colours were soft greys and greens, and the figures' robes moved in the wind like real silk. Audiences around the world were astonished — they had never seen a cartoon that looked like a breathing Chinese painting.
Times changed, and in the 1980s and 1990s cheap foreign cartoons flooded the market. Chinese animation went through a long, cold winter. But the story did not end there. In recent years, a new generation of artists has brought it back to life. Their films draw on ancient legends — dragons, monkey kings and snake spirits — but they are made with the newest computer technology, and their stories speak to today's audiences about courage, family and growing up. In 2015, a film about the legendary Monkey King earned huge praise at home and abroad, and several others soon followed.
The lesson of Chinese animation is clear. Imitation may keep you alive for a season, but only your own stories and your own art can give a film a soul. As one young director said, "Our grandparents left us five thousand years of stories. That is a treasure house — why should we borrow from our neighbours?"
32.What was special about early ink-wash animation?
A.Its figures seemed to move out of a traditional Chinese painting.
B.It was made with the newest computer technology.
C.Its stories came from American and Japanese cartoons.
D.It was the first cartoon ever made in the world.
33.What does the underlined word "scroll" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.A traditional Chinese musical instrument. B.A long roll of painting or paper.
C.A river in southern China. D.A famous animation studio.
34.What do we know about the new generation of Chinese animation artists?
A.They imitate foreign cartoons more successfully than before.
B.They have given up ancient legends as old-fashioned.
C.They combine ancient legends with modern technology and present-day themes.
D.They only make films for very young children.
35.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The history of world animation.
B.How ink-wash paintings are made into cartoons.
C.Why foreign cartoons once flooded the Chinese market.
D.How Chinese animation found its own voice in its own culture.

For weeks, I had worked behind the scenes for our class play, painting flat blue waves and repairing every loose prop. "The stage remembers nobody behind the curtains," a classmate joked. Still, I could not wait to see my dragon ____41____ on stage on Friday night.

Long before cinema came into being, the Chinese were already telling stories with light and shadow. Shadow puppetry, one of the world's oldest forms of storytelling, has a history of more than two thousand years. ____81____ is said that Emperor Wu of Han believed he saw his dead wife return on a cloth screen, while a minister secretly moved a figure ____82____(make) of donkey hide behind it.
Over the centuries, the art spread across the country and took on local colours. Artists carve cowhide into vivid figures, paint them in bright colours and move thin rods to make a single figure nod, fight or even fly — one puppet may need three performers ____83____ it smoothly. Behind the lit screen, singers and drummers tell the story while the shadow characters dance above it.
In 2011, Chinese shadow puppetry ____84____(add) to UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Nowadays, young artists are breathing new life into the old art: they create plays about school life and even science fiction, and ____85____(frequent) invite the audience to look behind the screen after the show.
Last month, our class watched a shadow play about a brave sea dragon. The figures moved so ____86____(smooth) that we almost forgot that three hands were guiding each of them. After the show, the old artist let us have a try. My dragon nodded once, then fell flat, and the whole class burst out ____87____. The artist only smiled: "The rods are simple, but they teach you ____88____ patient a performer must be."
That evening, I understood why this art has survived for so long: behind every few minutes of ____89____(magic) light and shadow stand years of quiet practice. Old arts never die as long as young hands are willing ____90____(learn) them.

【答案】A
由第一段“she had no proper camera and no actors... she would photograph her clay figures again and again”可知,她没有像样的相机也没有演员,于是用黏土形象逐格拍摄来“让它们活起来”。故选A。
25.What was one of the difficulties Jenny met?
A.Her phone could not take clear pictures. B.The lamp made the figures soft and awkward.
C.The school refused to lend her the hall. D.Her brother broke her plasticine box.
由第二段“the warm lamp made their arms soft and clumsy”可知,灯的热量使黏土手臂变软、不听使唤,是制作中的困难之一。故选B。
26.What does the underlined word "clumsy" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Smooth and soft. B.Strong and hard.
C.Heavy and shiny. D.Awkward and unsteady.
由画线词所在语境“the warm lamp made their arms soft and clumsy, like hands made of wet paper”可知,受热的黏土手臂变软,像湿纸做的手一样不听使唤,故 clumsy 意为“笨拙的、不平稳的”。
由第一段“the picture shows us what happens, but the music tells us how to feel”可知,电影音乐的作用是告诉观众该有怎样的感受。故选B。
29.What did the experiment with two soundtracks show?
A.The same scene felt different with different music.
B.Students prefer piano music to string music.
C.Cartoon scenes are hard for students to understand.
D.Music makes films shorter but more exciting.
【答案】A
故选A。
30.How can composers make a chase scene feel even faster?
A.By using deep drums. B.By turning off the sound.
C.By speeding up the music's tempo. D.By giving each character a tune.
由第三段“a chase scene feels faster when the music's tempo speeds up with it”可知,加快音乐节奏能强化追逐的急促感。故选C。
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Good film music should always make the audience cry.
B.The music composer is an invisible artist shaping our feelings.
C.The audience should watch films with the sound turned off.
D.The story matters less than the music in a film.
末段把作曲者称作“the invisible artist in the music room, who has been playing with your heart”,可推知作曲者是无形地塑造观众情感的艺术家。故选B。
D
【答案】A
由第二段“deer, tadpoles and buffalo seemed to walk straight out of a traditional Chinese scroll painting”可知,水墨动画中的人物仿佛从传统中国画中走出。故选A。
33.What does the underlined word "scroll" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.A traditional Chinese musical instrument. B.A long roll of painting or paper.

画线词所在短语“a traditional Chinese scroll painting”与后文“like ink meeting water”呼应,scroll painting 即“画卷”,scroll 意为“长卷”。故选B。
34.What do we know about the new generation of Chinese animation artists?
A.They imitate foreign cartoons more successfully than before.
B.They have given up ancient legends as old-fashioned.
C.They combine ancient legends with modern technology and present-day themes.
D.They only make films for very young children.
由第三段“draw on ancient legends... but they are made with the newest computer technology, and their stories speak to today's audiences”可知,新生代艺术家把古老传说与现代技术结合,讲述契合当下观众的主题。故选C。
35.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The history of world animation.
B.How ink-wash paintings are made into cartoons.
C.Why foreign cartoons once flooded the Chinese market.
D.How Chinese animation found its own voice in its own culture.

Watching a movie is more than just entertainment; it can be an enriching experience if you know how to appreciate it properly. Here are some tips to help you become a more thoughtful viewer.
First, pay attention to the story structure. ____36____ Understanding how the plot unfolds helps you follow the characters' journeys and the message the filmmaker wants to convey.
Second, observe the cinematography. The way scenes are lit, framed, and colored can tell you as much as the dialogue. ____37____ A dark, shadowy scene might suggest danger or mystery, while bright colors could indicate hope or joy.
Third, listen carefully to the soundtrack and sound design. Music and sound effects are powerful tools for setting mood. ____38____ They can create tension, evoke sadness, or build excitement without a single word being spoken.
____39____ Consider the historical period, cultural background, or social issues reflected in the film. This deeper understanding allows you to connect the movie to the real world and appreciate its broader significance.
Finally, reflect on your personal response after watching. ____40____ Discussing with friends or writing a short review can deepen your appreciation and critical thinking skills.
A.Ask yourself what emotions the film stirred and why.
B.Most films follow a beginning, middle, and end pattern.
C.Visual storytelling is a key element of cinematic art.
D.Don't forget to consider the context of the film.
E.Good acting is always the most important factor in a film.
F.Sometimes silence can be just as impactful as loud music.
G.Watching movies alone is better than watching with others.
B 项“Most films follow a beginning, middle, and end pattern”(多数影片都遵循‘开头—发展—结尾’的模式)正是对故事结构的解释,衔接自然。
C 项“Visual storytelling is a key element of cinematic art”(视觉叙事是电影艺术的关键要素)承上启下,统领本段的摄影话题。
本段讲“配乐与音效”,上文说“音乐和音效是营造氛围的有力工具”,下文“They can create tension, evoke sadness, or build excitement without a single word being spoken”进一步说明声音无需借助语言即可传情。F 项“Sometimes silence can be just as impactful as loud music”(有时静默与响亮的音乐一样具有冲击力)补充说明“无声”同属声音设计的一部分,与下文“without a single word”相呼应。
下文“Consider the historical period, cultural background, or social issues reflected in the film”与“This deeper understanding...”都在讲要把影片放回它所属的时代与文化语境中去理解,D 项“Don't forget to consider the context of the film”(别忘了考虑影片的背景)对下文起到总起作用,context 与下文 historical period/cultural background/social issues 构成概括与举例的关系。故选 D。
【答案】40.A
上文建议“看完后反思自己的个人感受”,下文“Discussing with friends or writing a short review can deepen your appreciation...” A 项“Ask yourself what emotions the film stirred and why”(问问自己影片激起了什么情绪、为什么)正是反思的具体方法,与下文构成“提问—讨论/写作”的承接。故选 A。
E(Good acting is always the most important factor in a film——全文按“故事结构→摄影→声音→背景→个人感受”五个角度并列给出建议,从未提出“演技最重要”这一论断,且 always/the most important 表述绝对,属无关论断)、G(Watching movies alone is better than watching with others——末段只说“与朋友讨论或写短评”能加深理解,并未比较“独自看”与“结伴看”的优劣,属话题漂移)。
For weeks, I had worked behind the scenes for our class play, painting flat blue waves and repairing every loose prop. "The stage remembers nobody behind the curtains," a classmate joked. Still, I could not wait to see my dragon ____41____ on stage on Friday night.
Days before the show, disaster struck: Lin, our leading actor, lost his voice. We sat around the empty stage in silence. Then Lin turned to me: "You know my lines better than anyone." "I'm just the props boy," I whispered, ____42____ deep inside, a small fire had been lit.
That night, I opened Lin's script and found his handwriting everywhere — little reminders and pauses. Reading them, I felt as if a door had been ____43____ to another world. The next morning I announced I would play the part. "Good," the director nodded, "but knowing the words is only ____44____ of the journey."
For three evenings I drilled on the empty stage. My classmates helped in every way: someone borrowed a black robe, someone else marked my entrances with bright paper. Slowly, the character began to take ____45____ inside me. When my voice grew tired, the girl who played my mother brought me warm salt ____46____.
The big night came. Backstage, my hands shook and my mouth was dry. The curtain rose; the lights fell on me. For one terrible second my mind went completely ____47____. Then I saw my dragon waving at the side of the stage, and my lines came back. The audience listened in breathless ____48____.
In the sea battle scene, I lifted the dragon high, and its shadow swept across the waves like a ____49____ thing. At the end, applause rolled through the hall like summer ____50____. Lin, wrapped in his coat in the front row, cheered louder than ____51____ else.
When we bowed together, Lin pressed my hand warmly: "The play needed a hero on stage, but it also needed every pair of hands behind the ____52____." His words stayed with me: a play is a bridge, and every plank of it ____53____. The next spring, when the teacher asked for a props manager again, I raised my hand without ____54____. Since then I have believed that no honest work is ____55____ when it is done with all one's heart.

【答案】81.It
It is said that...“据说……”,it 作形式主语,真正的主语是 that 从句,it 位于句首大写。
82.made
a figure 与 make(制作)为被动关系,made of donkey hide 相当于 which was made of...,意为“驴皮做的”。
83.to control
need sb/sth to do sth“需要……做……”,故填 to control;smoothly 提示控制要“平稳”。
【答案】84.was added
85.frequently
86.smoothly
87.laughing
burst out laughing“突然大笑起来”,out 为介词,后接动名词 laughing。
88.how
teach you how patient a performer must be,“教你表演者必须多么有耐心”,how 修饰形容词 patient。
89.magical
90.to learn
be willing to do sth“愿意做某事”,故填 to learn。
Dear Mr. Brown,
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
(Our English Dubbing Contest will be held in the school hall at 7:00 p.m. next Friday, and I'm writing to invite you to serve as a judge.),时间地点与目的并入一句,开篇信息密集不啰嗦;②正文写“细节链”,把“为什么请你”落成画面——先用 Around twenty students will dub scenes from classic films 点出比赛内容,再给两条理由(your native pronunciation / your lifelong love of films),接着用 you can tell at once whether a line sounds natural 说明你的专业价值,最后以 A few comments from you on their intonation would mean a lot to them (We would feel greatly honoured if you could come. Looking forward to your reply.)。
Dear Mr. Brown,
I'm Li Hua, chairman of the Students' Union. Our English Dubbing Contest will be held in the school hall at 7:00 p.m. next Friday, and I'm writing to invite you to serve as a judge.
Around twenty students will dub scenes from classic films that evening. Since every line is in English, your native pronunciation and lifelong love of films make you the perfect judge — you can tell at once whether a line sounds natural. A few comments from you on their intonation would mean a lot to them.
We would feel greatly honoured if you could come. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
· ① 目的句用 and 把“时间地点”与“写信目的”并入一句,开篇信息密集;② Around twenty students will dub scenes from classic films 把“比赛”写成画面,比 there will be a contest 具体可感;③ Since every line is in English 一句带出两条理由(母语发音地道、热爱电影),避免“因为您很优秀”式空话;④ you can tell at once whether a line sounds natural 把邀请理由落到评委的专业价值上;⑤ A few comments from you on their intonation would mean a lot to them 用委婉语气提出任务,比 please come 得体,并回扣本单元词 intonation;⑥ 结尾 greatly honoured 与 Looking forward to your reply
