Most Chinese schools award students red paper merit certificates (奖状) and things like pens and exercise books when they do well in exams. But one school has taken these awards to the next level. They printed the students’ achievements on bedclothes and gave them out as prizes.
The school is Yucai Dachengbei School in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. In mid-December last year, it held an event to award students who did well in key exams in November. Instead of giving students traditional certificates, the school presented them with bedclothes bearing their names and achievements. Students whose total scores were among the top five in their grade received a quilt cover. Those who ranked in the top five in a single subject test were given a sheet. Students who made great progress in their total scores got a pillow, while those who made great progress in a single subject received a blanket.
The school’s teachers designed these special awards. They hoped these awards would encourage students to keep on studying hard and making progress.
“We think the kids will be happy when sleeping under these special ‘merit certificates’. Their happiness will be doubled because every award is different and custom-made for them,” said Jiang Yan, a teacher at the school.
This creative idea has won big praise from both the students’ family members and Internet users. They think the awards are not only useful but also meaningful. These specially made bedclothes allow students’ efforts to be easily seen by others, which will inspire them to try harder in the future.

A new study shows the world creates about 57 million tons of plastic pollution every year. Researchers say the amount is enough to fill New York City’s Central Park with plastic waste as high as the Empire State Building.
The researchers who joined this study examined plastic that goes into the open environment, not plastic that is properly burned or buried. Governments fail to deal with waste properly—that is a big reason why Southeast Asia and Africa produce the most plastic waste. India leads the world in producing plastic pollution, with more than 9.3 million tons a year. That number is far more than double the amount produced by the next big polluting nations, Nigeria and Indonesia. Other top plastic polluters are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Brazil.
The study used AI to research plastics that were wrongly burned or just left in the open environment. In both cases, microplastics are spread, said Velis, the study’s lead writer. Several studies have looked at how common microplastics are in our drinking water and in our bodies. Scientists are still not quite sure how dangerous microplastics are for human health.
Some experts worry that the study only paid attention to pollution but neglected plastic production. Plastic production is likely to rise from about 400 million tons a year to more than 1.1 billion tons. It lets out large amounts of greenhouse gases that makes the earth warmer. Neil Tangri, a researcher working on waste and environmental programs, said, “It’s not exact to say that all we need to do is manage the pollution better. It’s necessary, but it’s not the whole story.”

36. How much plastic pollution does the world create every year?
A. About 9.3 million tons. B. About 57 million tons.

A. Because people there use too many plastic bags.
B. Because governments don’t deal with waste well.
C. Because there are too many people.
D. Because they have many plastic factories.
38. In what order are the following mentioned in Paragraph 3?
① Plastic is burned or left in the open.

How good is your memory? How many words can you memorize in 15 minutes? Well, some people can memorize 335 words. Some people are even more amazing. For example, someone once memorized the order of 2,530 playing cards in just one hour!
Just as there are sports competitions using our bodies, there are also sports competitions using our minds, such as the World Memory Championships. These were held in Wuhan, China, in 2019. There were many different events. For instance, the “brain athletes” had to remember as many names and faces as they could or as many words as possible in 15 minutes.
While you might think that these competitors were all born with a strong memory, this is often not true. For example, one champion has an average memory, but he makes full use of memory techniques (方法). So, if he wants to remember the names of the Great Lakes in the US, he thinks of HOMES, because each letter in HOMES stands for a different lake.
Many competitors use what is called a “memory palace” to remember things. While most people are terrible at remembering lists, they are quite good at remembering where things are. Think about your bedroom. You can probably picture in your mind where everything in your bedroom is. Now, picture in your mind the things on the list in different places in your bedroom. Later, if you want to remember the words, all you need to do is to remember the picture.
Memory competitions are not for everyone, and not everyone is a brain athlete. On the other hand, some of their memory techniques may be useful for you in your studies. You should give them a try!
根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
41. Some people can memorize 335 words in just a quarter of an hour.
42. The World Memory Championships were held in Wuhan, China, in 2019.
43. All the competitors in memory competitions are born with a very strong memory.
44. The “memory palace” technique links things to familiar places for memory.
45. Memory techniques are only useful for professional brain athletes, not for students.

Fudan University in Shanghai has a new rule about using AI for writing college papers. The rule says students cannot use AI for six things, including creating or changing experiment results, as well as polishing (润色) or translating their writing.
The new rule has caused heated discussions online, as it is believed to be the world’s strictest. Supporters think Fudan is doing the right thing. ____46____ Many students depend too much on AI without realizing the risk. Some even let AI do all the work, which can be dangerous, especially in jobs like nursing and firefighting. ____47____
The difficulty in catching AI-written schoolwork adds to the problem. ____48____ Checking programs also have trouble keeping up with fast-developing creative AI. ____49____ Teachers cannot fully trust them, as one mistake by the program can seriously affect a student, noted Education Week.
____50____ “Stopping the use of AI for polishing or translation destroys students’ creativity, but may cause students to spend too much time on language problems,” Professor Guo Yingjian from Renmin University of China told China Science Daily. He suggested that Fudan should learn from the experiences of Harvard and Cambridge by teaching students to use AI correctly and requiring them to disclose when they have used it.
阅读短文,把A~E五个句子填入文中空缺处,使短文内容完整。
A. Even so, some experts think Fudan is being too strict.
B. As a result, checking programs do not always work well.
C. Breaking this rule may cost students their college degrees (学位).
D. The rule is made to encourage students to think independently and creatively.
E. A study found that 37 percent of teachers are not well-trained for AI checking programs.

Chinese mathematician Wang Hong has made history as one of the winners of the 2026 Fields Medal, which is called the “Nobel Prize of Maths”. The award praised her great work on the three-dimensional Kakeya Conjecture (三维挂谷猜想), one of the most challenging problems in modern maths. Given every four years, the Fields Medal honours excellent mathematicians under 40. Wang is not only the first Chinese woman to receive this prize, but also only the third female winner in its 90-year history.
Yet Wang’s journey for maths was far from easy. In 2007, she entered Peking University’s School of Earth and Space Sciences through the national college entrance examination. Though she loved maths deeply, she was not accepted directly to the School of Mathematical Sciences. It was not until one year later that she successfully changed her major. At that time, she was not considered among the top students in her class. Instead of feeling upset, she grew even more determined to make progress.
After finishing her college studies, Wang went to France for her further education. Once she thought about giving up math for a new job. She even got some work experience in an architectural (建筑的) company. After careful consideration, however, she found her real interest still lay in maths and chose to go back to scientific research.
Another Chinese mathematician Deng Yu also won the Fields Medal in 2026. They were classmates at Peking University from 2007. It is the first time that two Chinese mathematicians have got this award in the same year. It stands as a meaningful moment for Chinese maths. Their great achievement encourages many young Chinese students to take an interest in math and stick to their scientific dreams.

根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

A. Because people there use too many plastic bags.
B. Because governments don’t deal with waste well.
C. Because there are too many people.
D. Because they have many plastic factories.
38. In what order are the following mentioned in Paragraph 3?
① Plastic is burned or left in the open.
② Microplastics spread into the environment.
③ Researchers use AI to study plastic pollution.
④ People find microplastics in water and bodies.
A. ③→①→②→④ B. ①→②→③→④

【答案】例文
The Person I Admire the Most
Among all the people I know, the person I admire the most is my grandmother. She is an ordinary woman, but her kindness and perseverance have deeply influenced my life.
My grandmother has always been a hardworking person. She took care of our whole family while also working in the fields every day. Even when she was sick, she never complained. Instead, she smiled and encouraged everyone around her. When I was in Grade 7, I failed my math exam and felt like giving up. My grandmother sat beside me and said, “Failure is not the opposite of success; it’s part of the journey.” Her words gave me the courage to keep trying. From then on, I studied harder and eventually improved my grades.
My grandmother’s spirit teaches me that no matter how difficult life gets, we should never give up. Her love and strength make me a better person every day. That’s why she is the person I admire the most.
