B Founded by 22-year-old Erin Willman, White Cane Coffee is a cafe located along the Allegheny River. Erin, aged fifteen, lost her vision. It was then that people started telling her what she could not do, but she wanted to show them what she could do and applied for jobs but was declined because of her disability. Thus, she decided to create her own business and in just one year became the CEO of her own company. What started as an idea on a bad day has now become a booming business. White Cane Coffee, located in Warren, PA on the corner of 3rd Avenue, sells various organic coffee. Besides amazing coffee, accessibility is the main focus at White Cane Coffee. Each package is printed with a Braille (盲文) label. This was just one of Erin’s brilliant ideas to become more accessible because “why would people who are blind not be able to shop for themselves?” White Cane Coffee is currently providing eight jobs for disabled workers. Erin and her family always say, “If you can change one person’s life, you are changing the world.” But that’s not all its profit benefits — the company also supports The Sight Center, an organization whose mission is to prevent blindness and promote independence for those with vision loss. Through it, Erin has been able to support a guide dog, with a portion of the money being given to support its training. Erin spends much of her time working with schools and organizations that specialize in teaching the blind and disabled. She is exceptionally proud of the School for Blind Children in Pittsburgh. Erin visited them and said their program was designed to encourage work and self-reliance among its students. Additionally, Erin had the opportunity to speak at the National Federation of the Blind Convention. She said, “You have value and you can live an independent life,” bringing faith to hundreds of people. 4. What pushed Erin to launch her career? A. Her wish to sell organic coffee nationwide. B. Her dream of setting up local coffee chains. C. Her goal to boost the disabled’s well-being. D. Her experience of rejection when looking for a job. 5. Why does Erin add Braille to coffee packages? A. To lower production expenses. B. To attract public attention to her shop. C. To meet official packaging standards. D. To allow the blind to shop independently. 6. What do we know about Erin’s social contributions? A. She devotes herself to educational reform. B. She relies on speeches to run charity work. C. She helps the blind stand on their own feet. D. She raises funds for animal training projects. 7. What is the best title for the text? A. A Blind Girl’s Business Rooted in Warmth B. A Young Woman’s Dream Built on Recognition C. A Local Brand’s Growth Based on Industry Expansion D. A Coffee Shop’s Mission Centered on Commercial Success C Dr. Ho Sang Jung and his research team from the Advanced Bio and Healthcare Materials Research Division at the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) have developed a biosensor capable of detecting small amounts of cancer cell DNA in the bloodstream with high sensitivity, enabling early cancer diagnosis (诊断). Compared to conventional techniques, this biosensor offers superior sensitivity and specificity, and its key feature lies in its ability to diagnose cancer early using only light signals and AI-based analysis, without the need for complex testing procedures. When cancer cells develop, small chemical changes occur on the surface of DNA in the bloodstream. In the early stages of cancer, the concentration of methylated (甲基化的) DNA is extremely low, making it difficult to detect with conventional biosensors at high sensitivity. Due to this hindrance, the research team developed a biosensor material technology that enables the detection of methylated DNA using high-sensitivity light signals and AI analysis. The research team integrated high-sensitivity light signaling and AI analysis with plasmonic (等离子) materials. These materials can strengthen the light signals of DNA molecules (分子) by more than 100 million times in response to light, enabling the detection of even extremely small amounts of DNA. As a result, the biosensor is capable of identifying methylated DNA at concentrations as low as 25 fg/mL in the early stages of cancer development. This represents a 1,000-fold improvement in sensitivity compared to conventional biosensors. The research team applied the developed biosensor to blood samples from 60 colorectal cancer patients, achieving a 99% accuracy rate in detecting the presence of cancer. Moreover, the biosensor successfully distinguished between cancer stages from Stage I to Stage IV with high precision. The analysis required only 100 μL of blood and was completed within 20 minutes, demonstrating a highly simple and rapid diagnostic process. Compared to conventional equipment, this technology significantly reduces both analysis time and cost, allowing for potential application in hospitals, health screening centers, at-home diagnostic kits, and portable diagnostic devices. 8. What makes the new biosensor distinctive? A. It is more sensitive to errors. B. It ensures the stability of results. C. It simplifies sample preparations. D. It is more suitable for promotion. 9. What does the underlined word “hindrance” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Barrier. B. Symbol. C. Standard. D. Disorder. 10. How do plasmonic materials aid detection? A. They dramatically build up DNA concentration. B. They remarkably speed up light signal responses. C. They instantly distinguish different types of DNA. D. They strongly boost DNA molecular light signals. 11. What can the new biosensor do for doctors? A. Monitor drug resistance. B. Show illness progression. C. Reduce medical conflicts. D. Decrease sample pollution. D Across the United States, over 7,800 urban parks offer a variety of recreational green spaces for people and pets, which are integral to the health of the environment and the people living in cities. They provide critical services like air and water purification and climate regulation. More than that, they sustain diverse forms of life by offering habitats to a variety of species. Yet, urbanization, including park development, is reducing natural habitats for plants and animals, threatening wildlife survival. A study by University of Florida scientists provides insights on ways to achieve harmony for smart urban park design. One important takeaway from the study highlights how urban green spaces can be designed to serve different purposes, although these purposes can sometimes conflict with the needs of wildlife. Features like sports fields and playgrounds are great for people but can reduce habitat quality for sensitive species. “Thick plants and limited lighting support biodiversity but may be underused by people,” says Callaghan, a lead author of the paper. Despite these trade-offs, there are ways to design green spaces for the benefit of people and wildlife. The researchers recommend incorporating native plant species and connecting separate green spaces. One way to incorporate them is through data-driven insights, made possible by citizen science platforms like iNaturalist, which allow people to directly contribute to our understanding of biodiversity in urban spaces. iNaturalist plays a crucial role in gathering the vast amount of biodiversity data needed for this study. By providing members of the public with a way to contribute observations of plants and animals in urban parks, these platforms provide a unique and scalable (可升级的) tool to assess biodiversity across large areas. With the data, scientists and park planners can better match urban green space management to the needs of visitors and local wildlife. The study’s findings show that thoughtful, data-informed park planning doesn’t have to sacrifice biodiversity for recreation. “The more we know, the better we can design inclusive spaces for humans and biodiversity,” says Callaghan. 12. What concern is raised in paragraph 1? A. Park construction disturbs wildlife habitats. B. Too many pets are allowed in urban parks. C. National parks fail to meet people’s needs. D. Urban expansion makes parks hard to reach. 13. How does the author explain the conflict in park design? A. By listing figures. B. By quoting reports. C. By giving examples. D. By making a contrast. 14. What is the function of iNaturalist? A. Sort park management data. B. Help study local biodiversity. C. Improve park light conditions. D. Monitor wild animals in parks. 15. What does Callaghan imply in the last paragraph? A. Park designs should consider wildlife needs. B. Recreation must come second to biodiversity. C. Well-built parks can balance two sides easily. D. Sufficient data makes win-win parks a reality. Picking up a cat appropriately is more challenging than people realize. ____16____ Remember that with each step you should remain calm and quiet. First, you should be mindful of the placement of your hands and arms. It is better to place one hand and part of your arm under the cat’s front legs and the other underneath her back legs. She needs to feel supported under her rear end (后部) especially. ____17____ Once you pick her up, you ought to immediately bring her close to your body, against your chest or stomach. Do so as soon as possible during lifting, even before you have fully stood up. You are bound to hold the cat securely. Many times people will move on to wrapping their arms around the cat. This is fine, as long as you continue to hold the cat against you, and her rear end is always supported. ____18____ You can allow them to do this. During the holding, you are expected to continue monitoring body language. Though the cat might like being held at first, it will show you signs when it gets tired of it. It may shake its tail, make its body tight, and move restlessly in your arms. ____19____ A safe way means a quiet area away from activity. Even though cats can jump from high places, it is more secure and more polite to assist the cat in meeting the height to which she is to jump. ____20____ If you wish to set her on a surface, bring her close to the surface both in height and proximity (临近). He could hear dogs barking loud inside that red brick building. As they stepped into the shelter, a worker brought over a large white dog named Bobby. Caden inquired what happened to him. The worker said they didn’t exactly know, only saying that he was a stray (无主的) dog and his leg was injured. He just needed a home to stay for a few weeks until his leg recovered, and then he would be all ready for an adoptive family. Bringing home a foster (寄养的) dog sounded fun, but giving it away to someone else later sounded terrible to Caden. Caden’s family had already had a dog named Tater, but he thought it could be acceptable to have an extra one. And Caden was sure his mother would change her mind once she saw an adorable dog playing in their yard together with Tater. But actually, their house wasn’t roomy, and the family had little spare time. They simply couldn’t shoulder the responsibility of raising two dogs. Without enough care, two lively dogs would turn the entire house into a mess. One dog was enough, and two would be too many — his mother had always insisted, until the day she announced that they were going to foster a dog. Even then, she firmly stood her ground that they would not be keeping him permanently. They finally brought Bobby home. The dog came bounding over to them, tongue sticking out one side of his mouth. As days went by, Bobby gradually adapted to life in his temporary home and bonded well with Tater. Bobby’s injured leg recovered faster than expected. It made Caden feel both happy and sad — happy because he could play fetch all day, and sad because it meant his mom had started talking to people about adopting Bobby. Caden planned to convince his mother to allow Bobby to stay. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bobby finally made a full recovery. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三年级10月供题训练 英语 试卷共8页,67小题,满分150分。 How much is the shirt? 8. C 9. A 10. D 11. 12. A 13. C 14. B 15. be able to do sth. 根据“observations”以及“prevented scientists from fully understanding its features”可知,此空填形容词limited,作定语,表示“有限的”。 be in orbit是固定短语,表示“在轨道上”,此空填介词in。 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Recently, I have noticed a worrying phenomenon: many students rely too heavily on AI tools when completing English writing assignments, and some even copy AI-generated content directly. This habit does more harm than good. It deprives us of chances to improve writing skills and practice independent thinking. Without real writing practice, we may make little progress in expressing ourselves. I suggest we treat AI only as a reference, not a replacement. We should write our own drafts first, and use AI to improve language after reflection. Only in this way can we truly benefit from both technology and learning. 视为……:treat...as... → view/regard...as... This habit does more harm than good. It deprives us of chances to improve writing skills and practice independent thinking. This habit does more harm than good, which deprives us of chances to improve writing skills and practice independent thinking. 1】I suggest we treat AI only as a reference, not a replacement. 2】Only in this way can we truly benefit from both technology and learning. Caden stuck his head out the window from the back seat of the car as his mom pulled up to the animal shelter. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Caden planned to convince his mother to allow Bobby to stay. He told her how lovely Bobby was and how perfectly he got along with Tater. He made a serious promise that he would take full charge of feeding, walking and cleaning up after both dogs, even offering to sacrifice part of his weekend leisure time for the extra work. His mom listened quietly, reminding him again of their small house and limited free time. Watching Caden’s watery eyes, she did not give an immediate answer but promised to consider his request seriously. Bobby finally made a full recovery. The animal shelter rang Caden’s mom soon to set up meetings with potential adopters. Sadness flooded Caden as he realized the separation was near. He tossed and turned at night, fearing to lose the newly-found furry friend. Just when he prepared to accept the truth, his mom smiled and said they could keep Bobby forever. Wild excitement swept over him. He knelt down and hugged Bobby tightly, grateful that the sweet dog had gained a permanent loving home. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be conscious of/perceive ②拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①悲伤:sadness/sorrow ②兴奋:excitement/thrill 【点睛】【高分句型1】Watching Caden’s watery eyes, she did not give an immediate answer but promised to consider his request seriously. 2】Just when he prepared to accept the truth, his mom smiled and said they could keep Bobby forever.
