后文John奋力划船“back to Nicky”说明之前被冲得“远离”了她,应用far away from。close to意为“靠近”,next to意为“紧挨着”,across from意为“在……对面”,均与“需要划船回去救她”矛盾。
13.句意:她得救了。

Isaac Newton was a quiet boy. Having lost his father before he was born, he grew up with his grandmother. At 18, soon after he finished schooling, Newton would spend his time making small tools. His head teacher saw the genius in him and asked his mother to send him to the university. Newton set out for Cambridge in June, 1661.
Newton was always trying to understand and explain a lot of things in nature. To test a question about colours, he would stare at (凝视) the sun with one eye until all the colours changed. As a result, he had to stay in the dark for some time before his eye returned to normal. Newton was the first to show us that white light is made up of colours mixed together. He was also the first person to understand the rainbow and explain how it forms.
A story goes like this: One day, an apple fell on Newton’s head, and it was then that Newton realized that the apple fell towards Earth and didn’t go anywhere else. He thought to himself, “How did this happen?” After doing some experiments, he later knew all objects always fall towards Earth’s centre because Earth attracts them. He realized that every object in the universe attracts every other object towards it. Then Newton discovered the law of universal gravitation.

①Have you ever had someone believe in you when you didn’t believe in yourself? That’s the power of inspiration. When we inspire others, we don’t just help them — we also grow as people.
② Inspiring others is very meaningful. For example, when you encourage a classmate feeling down, you learn to be patient and kind. Also, watching someone you’ve encouraged achieve their dreams is a wonderful feeling. When you give your time and energy out of kindness, you feel proud of yourself because you realize you’re making a positive difference in the world.
③Inspiration gives people a sense of purpose and hope. It makes them feel like they’re part of something bigger than just living day to day. When people feel inspired, they become more confident and energetic to do meaningful work. A student with inspiration may put more effort into learning. In a team or business, inspiration can lead to better results and stronger teamwork.
④ Inspiration helps leaders build strong relationships and learn more about themselves. Great leaders inspire others by sharing their values and future plans. When you inspire people, you create trust. Team members start believing in each other’s abilities. This trust builds lasting relationships. Some people might not have become friends without your leadership. At the same time, inspiring others helps you discover your own strengths, weaknesses, and values. You also learn how well you communicate. If people don’t respond (反应) well, you can improve your way of leading.
⑤You don’t need to be famous to inspire people. Start by being a good example. Listen more than you talk. Show real care for others. Give people a clear goal and direction. And remember — true inspiration comes from focusing on others, not yourself. When you inspire someone, you give them hope. And hope can change everything.
1.Why does inspiring others make us feel good?
A.We can bring good changes to the world.
B.We will never feel weak or upset in daily life.
C.We can get more energy from different teams.
D.We can easily become great leaders in a group.
2.According to paragraph 3, what may an inspired student do?
A.Make more friends. B.Join more clubs.
C.Study harder than before. D.Change personal values.
3.How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.By comparing things. B.By telling stories.
C.By listing numbers. D.By giving examples.
4.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A.①②/③④/⑤ B.①/②/③④⑤
C.①/②③④/⑤ D.①②③/④/⑤

People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school-year English course at Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that once you’ve started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about “How would I say it in English?” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I’m in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It’s amazing how much this helps.
For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally I got over it. And while traveling in America, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no option but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.
Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you’re writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement.

I remember that every Saturday night Mama would sit down by the kitchen table and count out the money Papa had brought home in the little envelope.
“For the rent (房租).” Mama would say, counting out the big silver pieces.
“For the food.” Another pile of coins.
My sister Christine, my brother Nels and I would watch with worry. At last, Papa would ask, “Is that all?” Mama would nod, look up and smile, “Good. We do not have to go to the Bank in the city.” We were all so proud of Mama’s Bank Account (账户). It gave us such a safe feeling. No one else we knew had money in a big bank downtown.
I remember when the Jensens were put out because they didn’t have money to pay for their rent. We children watched the big strange men carry out the furniture, paying no attention to the tears of Mrs. Jensens. “Might this, could this, happen to us?” I asked my parents.
“We have a Bank Account.” Mama comforted (安慰) me calmly, and suddenly I would feel safe. Whatever happened, we always knew we still had the Bank to depend upon.
That was twenty years ago. Last year I sold my first story. When the check (支票) came, I rushed over to Mama’s and put it on her lap. “For you,” I said, “to put in your Bank Account.” I noticed for the first time how old Mama and Papa looked. Papa seemed shorter, and Mama’s hair was silver now.
Mama fingered the check and looked at Papa. “Good,” she said, and her eyes were pleased. “Tomorrow,” I told Mama, “you must take it to the Bank.” “You will go with me, Katrina? But...” Mama stopped for a moment and looked at me.
“There is no account,” she continued. “In all my life, I’ve never been inside a bank.”
And when I didn’t-couldn’t-answer, Mama said seriously. “It is not good for little ones to be afraid to feel unsafe.”

All day long the little boy, Richard, worked hard in the fields with his farmer family. But at sunset there came an hour that was all his own. He’d climb a nearby hill and look across at a faraway house on another hill with its windows shining like gold.
One day, his father called him over. “You’ve been a good boy and earned a holiday. Take today for yourself, but remember—time is valuable, and learn something good.” The boy thanked his father, kissed his mother, put some bread in his pocket, and set off to find the house with golden windows.
It was pleasant walking at first. By and by he got hungry, so he sat by a stream and ate his bread. Then he fed bread to the birds, just like his mother taught him.
After a long time, he reached the hill with the house. But he felt very disappointed—its windows were just glass. No gold at all. He almost cried. A kind woman came, asked what he wanted and laughed softly when he talked about the golden windows.
“We’re poor farmers, too,” she said, and handed him milk and cake, then called her daughter who was about his age.
“You came to the wrong house! Follow me,” the little girl said excitedly and took him to a hill behind the farm.
“They only shine at sunset.” At the top, she turned and pointed. There, on a far hill, stood his own house—its windows shining like gold!
The way home was long and dark. But the lamplight and firelight shone through the windows, making them almost as bright as he had seen them from the hilltop.

Carsickness can make travel a much less enjoyable experience for many people. Could listening to the right music help with their carsickness? Scientists studying ways of reducing (减少) carsickness have found that playing the right types of music may help people feel better more quickly.
Scientists used a special simulator (模拟器) to make people feel carsick. Once the participants (参与者) began to feel sick, the scientists played different types of music for different groups of participants to see which one was the most helpful in helping them feel better. At the same time, scientists watched participants brainwaves (脑电波) to see how carsick they were. The results were both clear and surprising.
According to the study, happy music was the most helpful against carsickness, reducing it by 57.3%. It was very closely followed by soft music at 56.7%. Exciting music reduced carsickness by 48.3%. Surprisingly, playing sad music was less helpful than doing nothing. The control group reported 43.3% better after they rested, while those who listened to sad music reported only 40% better.
These findings offer a better way to help carsickness than traditional treatments. “The traditional treatments often have side-effects such as sleepiness.” said Dr Qizong Yue of Southwest University, China. “Using music to help is an easy, safe, low-cost, and personal method for each person. Based on our results, people experiencing carsickness during travels can listen to cheerful or gentle music to feel better.”
While these results are clear, the scientists agree that more research with larger and more samples will be needed to prove these findings. Future studies will try to improve our understanding of how music influences the brain and body during carsickness.
1.How do the scientists carry out the research?
A.By studying popular types of music.
B.By doing interviews in the bus stations.
C.By comparing the results of different groups.
D.By playing different music for the same person.
2.According to the passage, which kind of music works best for carsickness?
A.Exciting music. B.Soft music. C.Happy music. D.Sad music.
3.What does the underlined word “side-effects” probably mean in the passage?
A.Further help. B.Special reasons.
C.Main advantages. D.Unwanted results.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.No Carsickness Any More B.Music Helps with Carsickness
C.A New Way of Playing Music D.Different Music, Different Feelings
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.D 4.B

My View on Digital Life
Digital tools like smartphones, computers and online learning platforms have appeared in our life.
Personally, I usually use my smartphone to chat with friends and use my computer to take online classes. These tools bring a lot of convenience to my life. I can get information quickly and learn new things easily. However, spending too much time on digital tools is bad for our eyes. Sometimes, I even find it hard to focus on my study because of computer games. In my opinion, it is necessary for us to control the time we spend on them. We should use them mainly for learning rather than just for fun.
I hope we can enjoy a better digital life.

In the past, people mainly depended on walking or riding bicycles for transportation. However, now we have convenient buses, subways, and even high-speed railways, which have greatly made travel faster and easier. In the past, people wrote letters to keep in touch with others.

4.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A.①②/③④/⑤ B.①/②/③④⑤

In a reading corner at Qixi Township Central School, some students are sitting with tablets (平板电脑) in their hands. Instead of playing games, they are using an AI-powered helper to enjoy classic novels.
The school is located in a mountainous area in Zhejiang Province, ▲ Their grandparents take care of them while their parents work away from home. For years, the school’s library had only a few hundred books, and many of them were out of date or not right for young readers. Therefore, the students had few chances to find quality books.
Change began about a year ago with a digital reading program at village schools across the province. Started in November 2025, the program has provided smart devices (设备) to schools with fewer than 100 students. Now, students in grades four to six at Qixi can use these tools.
“Digital reading helps solve the problem of not having enough reading materials (材料),” Wang Wenhui, a teacher at the school, said. “With the smart tools, we can choose better books for kids, encouraging them to read more. About half of the students at the school have developed a daily reading habit.”
Similar changes are underway in other parts of China. In Daguan County, Yunnan Province, the local library has introduced e-reading devices and digital services for children.
