M:That's good,Irene.Now,what should we do?
W:We've got to plan the menu.
M:Oh,that's right.Do you have anything in mind?
W:I think I'm going to make the chicken salad we had at Pompeo last time.Remember,I asked the chef

If nobody is at your home next week,it will be returned to us.In that case, one of our customer service
representatives will give you a call.
W:Couldn't you drop it off at the local post office and then I'll get it myself sometime?
M:I'm afraid it's not possible.
W:Well, okay,do you charge extra for re-sending it?
M:Yes,we only cover the first delivery fee and you have to pay another 10 dollars for re-sending it.It
will be added to your bill.
Hello every one.I know most of you want to be singers, butI'm afraid to say it's all hard
work. However, the rewards are beyond anything else,so it's a fair deal.If you have got a good voice,
then treasure it.Don't be anxious. If it does get hurt,it's impressive how it'll recover. The important
thing is to use it.Get out the campus and take every chance you can to sing in public. This experience
will also help to feed and build your ambition to go on to be better.Singing on stage to an appreciative
audience is as good as life gets. And for those who don't like public performance,if you've got a good
voice, then maybe you'll be like my friend Diana.Although she got over most of her anxiety about
performing in public a few years ago,she still prefers studio singing, performing directly for CDs and so
on.Nobody really sees her outside her home and the studio.Even warming up her voice for a recording
performance is something she does in private, making noises while sitting in her car outside the studio
building.I think she's alarmed a few passersby in her time.

【答案】32.A33.B34.D35.A
As other psychologists have argued your concentration
can vary so much, the very idea of an“average"attention span is almost meaningless..(其他心理学家
原文关键词meaningless(无意义的)与A选项of
little significance(毫无价值、意义甚微)为同义替换,故选A。
Nevertheless,.it's likely your attention span is decreasing. As one
recent survey suggests, nearly half the population nowadays feels as if theirs is worse than it was. With
the ever-present pull of our emails and social media,it's easy to see why.(尽管如此,人们的注意力时
One solution to this is to pay attention to your body clock.Lining up
your most mentally taxing tasks with your natural peaks of focus is key to concentration, says Mark.
There are differences around these times, depending on
whether you're more of a morning person or a night person."If a person is an early type, their peak focus
would be earlier-before 10 a.m.,"explains Mark."And if they're a late type,their peak focus will
"Pay attention to everything the teacher says.I can't stress how important it is to pay attention to
what your teacher is teaching you.Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to
G“Pay attention during class,especially during lectures(课堂上一定要专
上文“You
don't need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on
the blackboard,.or any special fact you think you might need for a test.(你不需要把老师说的每一个字
This way it will help you learn
more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.(这样一来,通过主动思考自己所写的
C“Write in your
前文“You will be missing out on stuff.(翘课会让你错过很多重要内容。)”
后文“However,.you will have more work and you have missed lectures and in-class movies..(但你会面
用“However”转折,
E“It is true that you could make up the
F"then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems or offer you extra credit. The same
F“If you have an
"I don't care about study'"attitude(如果你抱着“我不在乎学习”的态度)”是对不良态度的具体举
There is no shame in needing some help.If you
don't understand,ask someone.Read your textbook and notes,and then if that fails,seek help.Ask a

焦虑的)、C(annoyed,恼怒的)均为负面情绪,排除;D(confident,自信的)程度过重,此时作

Peter loves baseball.Last summer,he helped to coach a school baseball team. When he first
watched the team of 12-year-olds play baseball, his first impressions (E)were not really positive.
Some players often left as soon as they started losing.Other players paid too much attention to all
their mistakes during the game or preferred to dig up the grass when they weren't in the play.A lot of
boys threw their baseball bats when they lost the catch.
While their baseball skills improved over time with more practice, there were still problems. The
team had a long way to go.For example, some boys were hard on those who made mistakes.Instead of
being supportive or encouraging, they blamed (each other.
Peter started one-on-one talks with each player to discuss things that he had noticed. Some were
about skills like holding the bat up higher or opening their eyes when they were making a catch. But
most were about staying positive and supporting each other.
Things began to change slowly. The boys began to take the duties for their play instead of blaming
others for mistakes. They stayed positive even when losing. The team culture was improving.
Players began encouraging each other,high-fiving and supporting teammates.Peter was especially
pleased to see some of the boys taking leadership (roles and having their own one-on-one talks
with their teammates.
Peter didn't think he made huge progress in teaching the boys how to throw, catch or hit better, but
he was pleased that their conversations around the character led to something positive.Although the team
still lost games, their character became stronger.Next season, their character will be tested again.
24.Which is one of the negative behaviors the players showed when Peter first watched them?
A.They gave up when they started losing.
B.They refused to practice baseball skills.
C.They paid no attention to their teammates.
D.They argued with the coach during games.
25.What was the main focus of Peter's one-on-one talks with the players?
A.Improving baseball techniques.
B.Blaming players for their mistakes.
C.Keeping a positive attitude.
D.Making plans to win more games.
26.How did the players themselves help improve the team culture?
A.By studying other teams'game videos.
B.By practicing baseball skills every night.
C.By encouraging and supporting each other.
D.By asking Peter to punish players who played poorly.
27.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Team Success:Improved Baseball Skills
B.Player Growth:Taking Leadership Roles
C.Team Culture:Ending Teammate Blame
D.The Real Progress:Stronger Character

Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time
after school are more mentally(E)healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive
Medicine.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students
between 2014 and 2018.The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after
school, including how much time they spent watching TV or something else. Then, students reported
how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that,
researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as
"I start most days thinking that I will have a good day",they could choose to what level they agreed with
it on a scale.
Researchers said in the study some of the results were expected.Students with no after-school
activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And girls would score higher on negative
indicators()of mental health,as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher
levels of anxiety compared to boys.
What was noteworthy, researchers say,is that even among students who took part in after-school
activities,46%still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time,67%of
students who did not take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time.
Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally.
"The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of
teenagers."the study said,"While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for
social and academic development, the new study shows their importance for good mental health results."
28.What were the students asked to do first in the study?
A.They drew pictures to show their daily life at school.
B.They talked about their mental health with researchers.
C.They reported how often they joined after-school activities.
D.They answered questions about their after-school screen time.
29.According to the study, which of the following is true about teenage girls?
A.They were more likely to feel satisfied with their daily life.
B.They showed a very low rate of joining after-school activities.
C.They were less likely to have higher levels of anxiety than boys.
D.They were more seriously affected by too much screen time mentally.
30.What is the purpose of the numbers (46%and 67%)used in paragraph 4?
A.To prove that students with no activities have no screen time.
B.To challenge the accuracy of previous research on screen time.
C.To support the claim that high screen time is widespread among teens.
D.To argue that screens are more engaging than after-school activities.
31.What can we learn from the findings of the study?
A.Screen time should be completely avoided.
B.After-school activities are important for teenagers'mental health.
C.Most Canadian teenagers spend too much time on sports.
D.Girls are more mentally unhealthy than boys.

May I have your attention, please?I'll try and be quick,as I probably only have about 47 seconds
before your mind starts wandering().That,according to psychologist Dr Gloria Mark,is now our
average attention span(注意力持续时间),based on her latest study of people's use of screens in the
workplace.Of course, this figure have its limits. As other psychologists have argued your concentration
can vary so much, the very idea of an"average"attention span is almost meaningless.Because of this,
there isn't even scientific agreement on how to measure focus.
Nevertheless,it's likely your attention span is decreasing. As one recent survey suggests, nearly half
the population nowadays feels as if theirs is worse than it was. With the ever-present pull of our emails
and social media,it's easy to see why.
Of course,we can silence our phone notifications (and put on noise-canceling headphones.
However, even when we have done all that, there's still the enemy within to deal with.Unknowingly, you
are"interrupting"yourself all day long, according to Mark.Even while reading this, you may have
gotten the sudden desire to look something up online, check your emails or do something else."It's
something we do without realizing,"said Mark.
One solution to this is to pay attention to your body clock.Lining up your most mentally taxi ng
tasks with your natural peaks (of focus is key to concentration, says Mark. Her research has found
that,on average, these high points occur around 10 a.m.in the morning and around 2-3 p.m.in the
afternoon. There are differences around these times, depending on whether you are more of a morning
person or a night person."If a person is an early type, their peak focus would be earlier------before 10a.
m.,"explains Mark."And if they are a late type, their peak focus will be later."
32.What is some psychologists'attitude toward the 47-second average attention span figure?
A.It is of little significance.
B.It provides strong evidence for their study.
C.It helps measure people's focus scientifically.
D.It proves people's minds wander very easily.
33.Why do many people feel their attention span is becoming shorter nowadays?
A.They spend too much time doing surveys at work.
B.Electronic messages and social media keep drawing them.
C.They often keep silent when using their mobile phones.
D.They refuse to wear noise-canceling headphones at home.
34.The underlined phrase"mentally taxing"in the last paragraph probably means
A.bringing great joy
B.causing serious physical pain
C.taking little thinking time
D.requiring much mental effort
35.What can we learn from Dr Gloria Mark's research findings?
A.People's focus peaks vary with their personal living habits.
B.Night-type people have no obvious focus peaks in the daytime.
C.Moming people's focus peaks fall after 10 a.m.
D.People share exactly the same focus peak time.

Pay attention to everything the teacher says.I can't stress how important it is to pay attention to
what your teacher is teaching you.Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to

Taking notes is important. You don't need to write down every single word your teacher says but
write down what he or she writes on the blackboard,or any special fact you think you might need for a

are writing.
