A 篇
1. What can we learn about the Temple of Heaven from the text?

As a masterpiece of building techniques of Ming and Qing dynasties, the Temple of Heaven is a precious ancient architecture and the world's largest building complex for offering sacrifice to heaven."(天坛是明清建筑技术的杰作,是一座珍贵的古建筑,也是世界上最大的祭天建筑群。)
2. What is the lowest possible cost to visit all spots?
3. Which of the following statements about foreign visitors' ticket-booking is TRUE?
【答案】B
【细节理解题】根据 Note for Foreign Visitors 中"Book tickets via WeChat Official Account 'Temple of Heaven Official Ticketing Platform' using a passport or permanent residence permit."(外国游客通过微信公众号使用护照或永久居留证预订门票。)
4. What do British residents typically do in the rain?
Residents don't bother with umbrellas; they wear waterproof jackets and simply carry on."(居民们懒得带伞;他们穿着防水夹克,照常行事。)
5. What can be inferred about British politeness?
【答案】A
Then there's the famous British politeness. People say 'sorry' if you knock into them and thank the bus driver. But this warmth is a performance of good manners, not an invitation to friendship. You can chat with a neighbor for twenty minutes and still never learn their name. The British protect their privacy like a fortress, and crossing that boundary feels rude." 故选 A。
6. What does the author imply about the NHS in the text?
The NHS provides convenient access to healthcare, though getting an appointment can take weeks."(英国国民医疗服务体系(NHS)提供了便捷的医疗保健途径,尽管预约可能需要数周时间。)
7. What is the author's purpose of writing the text?
Living in the UK won't hand you a fairytale. But it will teach you patience and strength. And perhaps that's the real benefit of life abroad — not discovering a perfect place, but building a stronger version of yourself within an imperfect one."
8. Why do students fail to imagine themselves as scientists?
Many of these same students struggled to imagine themselves as scientists, citing concerns such as 'I'm not good at science' and 'Even if I work hard, I will not do well.' It's easy for them to see a scientist's work as arising from an inborn talent."
9. What's the purpose of the intervention?
Researchers at Teachers College, Columbia University and the University of Washington designed an intervention to change students' beliefs that scientific achievement reflects ability rather than effort by exposing students to stories of how accomplished scientists struggled and overcame challenges in their scientific efforts."(哥伦比亚大学和华盛顿大学的研究人员设计了一种干预措施,让学生了解有成就的科学家们是如何努力奋斗并克服挑战的,从而改变学生们认为科学成就反映的是能力而不是努力的观念。)
10. The underlined word "pronounced" in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to ______.
The effect was especially pronounced"应是"效果显著"的意思。
11. What can we learn from the research?
By recognizing a scientist's struggles and introducing the growth mindset he or she applied to accomplish great works, the students were able to empathize (共情) with the scientists during their own struggles."(通过认识科学家的奋斗,并介绍他或她在完成伟大工作时所运用的成长心态,学生们能够在奋斗过程中与科学家们产生共鸣。)
12. The author mentions "invasive surgery" in the first paragraph to ______.
Replacing a tooth often requires invasive surgery and implanting (种植) a titanium (钛) screw into a patient's jawbone, then waiting months for that to strengthen into an artificial root, before attaching a crown or cap on top of it. But research groups around the world are working to find ways to implant and grow real biological teeth in a human jaw."(种植牙通常需要进行侵入性手术:先将一枚钛金属螺钉植入患者的颌骨,等待数月待其稳固形成人工牙根,再在顶端安装牙冠。
13. What does the underlined word "mimics" in the second paragraph most probably mean?
【答案】A
This year, she led a study that built upon that work and achieved a breakthrough in the material used to house the growing tooth in the lab, which better mimics the actual environment where biological teeth grow in the mouth."(今年,她主导了一项基于该研究的后续探索,在实验室培育牙齿的载体材料方面取得了突破性进展——这种材料能更精准地 mimics 口腔内生物牙齿生长的真实环境。) 故选 A。
14. The author implies that the use of adult human cells in lab-grown teeth ______.
Researchers still don't know exactly how to replace the embryonic mouse cells with adult human cells, but if that puzzle is solved..."(研究人员仍未完全明确如何用成人类细胞替代小鼠胚胎细胞,但如果这个难题得到解决……)
15. What is mainly talked about in the passage?
That may be a way off, but at King's College London, Ana Angelova Volponi has been experimenting with lab-grown teeth for almost two decades, and was part of a team that in 2013 grew a tooth from human and mouse cells. This year, she led a study that built upon that work and achieved a breakthrough in the material used to house the growing tooth in the lab, which better mimics the actual environment where biological teeth grow in the mouth."(虽然这一目标尚需时日,但在伦敦国王学院,安娜·安杰洛娃·沃尔波尼已深耕实验室培育牙齿领域近二十年——她曾是2013年那支利用人类细胞与小鼠细胞培育出牙齿的团队核心成员。

Dear Alan,
I'm sorry to learn that you're having trouble with your dorm life. It must be really tough to stay focused in class after being kept awake late at night by your roommates. I'd like to offer some practical suggestions for you.
If I were you, first of all, I would try to talk to my roommates politely, telling them I really need adequate sleep to stay attentive in class. Most people aren't fully aware that their chatting is disturbing unless they are reminded. It is also advisable that you set a quiet time for the dorm together. Besides, I suggest that you prepare some simple tools to reduce noise, such as earplugs and an eye mask if they can not stop chatting right away. What's more, if the problem remains unsolved, turn to your teachers for help.
Starting high school and living away from home are never easy. Don't be too anxious. I believe the problem will be solved step by step.
Yours,
Susan Luo

Moving to the United Kingdom is rarely what the movies show. Red telephone boxes and gentlemen in long coats sound romantic — until you go through the reality. After spending over a year here, I've found that living in Britain is a slow but deeply inspiring experience.
The first thing that confirms itself to you is the weather. A continuous light rain keeps you company for weeks. The sky never quite clears, and darkness falls by mid-afternoon in winter. Residents don't bother with umbrellas; they wear waterproof jackets and simply carry on.
Then there's the famous British politeness. People say "sorry" if you knock into them and thank the bus driver. But this warmth is a performance of good manners, not an invitation to friendship. You can chat with a neighbor for twenty minutes and still never learn their name. The British protect their privacy like a fortress (堡垒), and crossing that boundary feels rude.
The systems here work — slowly, but they work. The NHS provides convenient access to healthcare, though getting an appointment can take weeks. Bank accounts, tax numbers, and housing permits all require patience. As one friend put it, "Everything in Britain requires a queue — even getting sick."
But over time, you start appreciating its quiet pace. You learn to enjoy walks by yourself along the landscape, to find comfort in a proper cup of tea, and to value small moments of genuine warmth.
Living in the UK won't hand you a fairytale. But it will teach you patience and strength. And perhaps that's the real benefit of life abroad — not discovering a perfect place, but building a stronger version of yourself within an imperfect one.
4. What do British residents typically do in the rain?
A. They always carry an umbrella. B. They stay indoors all day long. C. They wear water-resistant clothing. D. They complain about the weather.
5. What can be inferred about British politeness?
A. People keep a private distance. B. People rarely say "sorry" in daily life. C. People display friendship by being polite. D. People may stay unknown after casual chats.
6. What does the author imply about the NHS in the text?
A. It is completely inefficient and useless. B. It is accessible but requires long waits. C. It serves only bank accounts and permits. D. It offers immediate medical service.
7. What is the author's purpose of writing the text?
A. To encourage more people to go to the UK. B. To complain about the bad life in Britain.
C. To share his real-life experience and insight. D. To introduce weather and medical system of UK.
C
What kind of people can become scientists? When a group of researchers posed that question to ninth-and 10th-graders, almost every student gave such responses as "People who work hard" or "Anyone who seems interested in the field of science."
Many of these same students struggled to imagine themselves as scientists, citing concerns such as "I'm not good at science" and "Even if I work hard, I will not do well." It's easy for them to see a scientist's work as arising from an inborn talent.
But for high school students, learning more about some struggles of scientists can help students feel more motivated to learn science. Researchers at Teachers College, Columbia University and the University of Washington designed an intervention to change students' beliefs that scientific achievement depends on ability rather than effort by exposing students to stories of how accomplished scientists struggled and overcame challenges in their scientific efforts.
During the study, the students read one of three types of stories about Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and Michael Faraday. Intellectual (智力的) struggle stories: stories about how scientists "struggled intellectually," such as making mistakes while addressing a scientific problem and learning from them. Life struggle stories: stories about how scientists struggled in personal lives, such as not giving up in the face of poverty or lack of family support. Achievement stories: stories about how scientists made great discoveries, without any discussion of coexisting challenges.
Researchers found that students who heard either type of "struggle stories" improved their science performance after the intervention, compared to students in the control group. The effect was especially pronounced for lower performing students, for whom exposure to struggling stories led to significantly better science-class performance than low-performing students who read achievement stories. In addition, students who read struggle stories reported feeling more personally connected to the scientists. By recognizing a scientist's struggles and introducing the growth mindset he or she applied to accomplish great works, the students were able to empathize (共情) with the scientists during their own struggles.
8. Why do students fail to imagine themselves as scientists?
A. They lack interest in science. B. They are short of confidence. C. They prefer efforts to talents. D. They question the work of scientists.
9. What's the purpose of the intervention?
A. To introduce some inspirational stories to students. B. To expose students to scientists' great achievements. C. To ensure students will become scientists in the future. D. To clear students' misunderstandings of scientific work.
10. The underlined word "pronounced" in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to ______.
A. minimal B. doubtful C. noticeable D. long-lasting
11. What can we learn from the research?
A. Science ability has little to do with efforts. B. Students are more motivated by achievement stories. C. Scientists' struggle stories can influence readers' beliefs. D. Low-performing students tend to feel more connected to scientists.
D
It's not surprising that many people fear the dentist. Replacing a tooth often requires invasive surgery and implanting (种植) a titanium (钛) screw into a patient's jawbone, then waiting months for that to strengthen into an artificial root, before attaching a crown or cap on top of it. But research groups around the world are working to find ways to implant and grow real biological teeth in a human jaw.
That may be a way off, but at King's College London, Ana Angelova Volponi has been experimenting with lab-grown teeth for almost two decades, and was part of a team that in 2013 grew a tooth from human and mouse cells. This year, she led a study that built upon that work and achieved a breakthrough in the material used to house the growing tooth in the lab, which better mimics the actual environment where biological teeth grow in the mouth. It's a key step on the way to replacing the mouse cells with human cells and simulating them to form a tooth.
The idea of creating lab-grown a tooth dates back to the 1980s, Volponi said, but the one that she and her colleagues created over a decade ago was the first that used adult human gingival (牙龈的) cells and combined them with tooth cells taken from a mouse embryo (胚胎).
"It's almost like a tripod (三脚架)," she said about the elements that contribute to growing a tooth in a lab setting. "The two types of cells are engaging in tooth making, in a sort of conversation, and then we have the environment where this happens."
Researchers still don't know exactly how to replace the embryonic mouse cells with adult human cells, but if that puzzle is solved, Volponi envisions two possible ways to integrate lab-grown teeth into everyday dentistry: "We either grow a tooth up to a certain stage of development, and then put it into the tooth socket where a tooth was lost. Or, we fully grow the tooth first and then implant it surgically. It's still too early to say which approach will be better.
12. The author mentions "invasive surgery" in the first paragraph to ______.
A. criticize outdated dental techniques B. compare different types of dental surgeries C. explain the complexity of traditional dental procedures D. highlight the need for alternative tooth replacement solutions
13. What does the underlined word "mimics" in the second paragraph most probably mean?
A. Imitates. B. Creates. C. Displays. D. Improves.
14. The author implies that the use of adult human cells in lab-grown teeth ______.
A. has already been achieved by Volponi's team B. is the biggest remaining challenge in the research C. is less effective than using mouse embryonic cells D. will end the need for a supporting environment
15. What is mainly talked about in the passage?
A. Challenges in traditional dental implants. B. Problems in implanting real biological teeth. C. Methods to replace mouse embryos with humans'. D. Advances in lab-grown biological teeth research.

Building confidence can be difficult, especially when you are faced with failure or mistakes. Fortunately, whether you lack confidence or struggle to feel confident about anything, there are several ways that can help you.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
While making comparisons is natural, they often lead to envy (嫉妒). The more envy you have, the worse you feel about yourself. ___16___ Then keep a thankful journal to help you call to mind the areas where you are favored, which can help you focus on your own life rather than others'.
___17___
The people you spend time with can influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself, perhaps more than you realize. Keep company with those who love you and wish you well. Seek out others who are positive and can help build your confidence. ___18___
Practice positive self-talk.
Optimistic self-talk can help you overcome self-doubt and take on new challenges. Turn those negative thoughts around into more positive self-talk. For example, "I can't do anything right" becomes "I can do better next time" or "___19___". "I hate public speaking" becomes "I don't like public speaking" and "Everyone has strengths and weaknesses."
Set realistic goals.
Setting high-reaching goals and failing to achieve them would damage confidence levels. However, realistic goals are achievable. The more realistic goals are, the greater confidence you will have. For instance, if you have a goal of losing weight, losing one to two pounds per week is healthy and realistic. ___20___ Your self-confidence will be boosted when you hit it.
A. Surround yourself with positive people.
B. Mistakes are just stepping stones to progress.
C. Don't let other people determine who you are.
D. Keep a positive circle of supportive close friends.
E. Remember that everyone is running their own race.
F. Self-confidence and a positive attitude go hand in hand.
G. Knowing this helps you set a goal in line with this guideline.
