Because my stories keep my heart pounding at night with the possibility of it all, when I can’t get words on paper, I want to scream. All my energy pools at the bottom of my heart, where it continues to yell at me all day long, “Write! Write! Write!” I have to quiet the voice like a hidden pet, shushing (发嘘声) it over and over until I get the chance to leave, laptop in hand, stories pouring out of my mind.
What poor, unfortunate lives we artists live! We’re tortured by our words, whether they’re circling around in our minds at 3 am or written on paper, looking sad and regretful that we’ve put them there. Our words laugh at us before and after they leave our bodies.
I messaged a writing mentor (导师) when I found myself running in circles. With only a small window of time to myself each afternoon, I found it hard to write. If only I had more time, I could finish my book. If only people would leave me alone, I could become an accomplished writer. It was everyone else’s fault.
Small—my mentor told me to start small but keep going. “Do what you can, when you can. Let that be enough during the busy seasons.” In her eyes, she was once me. She was once crazy with tasks that kept her hands pushing, pulling, grabbing and moving endlessly. She recognized herself in the way I talked with starry eyes about my dreamy writing goals and plans. Essays, articles and short stories flowered in my rich mind.
In a few wise words, she gave me the freedom to write in small periods of time she called “the cracks of the day”. She argued that I should run after publishing with the same desire as ever. But in her patient voice, I heard a gentle reminder of stopping running so hard and instead slowing to a sustainable pace.
So I write. I submit. I live, and I dream.

A. She is forced to write constantly. B. She has serious heart problems.
C. She has a strong desire to write. D. She is unable to focus on writing.
25. What does the underlined word “tortured” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Threatened. B. Troubled. C. Inspired. D. Impressed.
26. What problem did the author have in writing?
A. She suffered from a serious lack of time. B. Her writing was far from satisfying.
C. She had no idea what to write. D. She had no one to rely on.
27. Which of the following can sum up the writing mentor’s suggestion to the author?
A. All roads lead to Rome. B. Strike while the iron is hot.
C. No pains, no gains. D. Constant drops wear away a stone.

It’s impossible to predict when you’re going to die. But if you’re aiming for a long and healthy life, it pays to worry less about your genes(基因)—which you can’t change anyway— and more about your lifestyle and environment. That’s the conclusion of a new study in Nature Medicine that takes a broad look at the longstanding environment-vs.-genes debate, and comes down firmly in the environment camp.
Researchers analyzed detailed medical data from over 490,000 people in the UK Biobank to study the influence of genetics and more than 100 environmental factors on the risk of 22 diseases that make up most of the major causes of death. “We can measure each participant’s biological aging speed—how much faster or slower it is than their actual age—and this speed is a very strong predictor of death risk.” says lead author Austin Argentieri, a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Just knowing that age gap, of course, is only part of the picture. Equally important is the cause of that gap. To help determine that, the researchers analyzed people’s many environmental and behavioral factors that contribute to disease and biological age. To cover the genetic side, researchers analyzed people’s genomes(基因组), looking for genetic markers related to the 22 key diseases. In addition, they noted which participants had already developed any of those diseases.
The results were astonishing. Environment and lifestyle led to 17% of people’s disease-related risk of dying, compared to just 2% for genetics. Of the various environmental factors, smoking was the riskiest behavior, linked to 21 diseases; socioeconomic factors such as household income, neighborhood, and employment situation were connected to 19 diseases; and a lack of physical activity was linked to 17 diseases.
The researchers do not see the current study to be the end of their work. In the future, they recommend looking more closely at multiple factors, including diet, contact with viruses such as bird flu as well as other environmental factors. All of those are potentially powerful but under-studied influences on lifespan(寿命).
28. What can we learn about biological aging speed?
A. It is linked to people’s death risk. B. It is influenced by people’s genetics.
C. It is tied to people’s overall health. D. It is determined by people’s actual age.
29. Which aspect of the study is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. Purpose. B. Approach. C. Findings. D. Limitations.
30. According to the study, which group is likely to face the greatest disease-related death risk?
A. Tobacco users. B. Low-income earners. C. Genetic risk carriers. D. Inactive individuals.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Genes VS. Environment: The Lifespan Puzzle
B. Genetic Testing: Ways to Predict Most Diseases
C. The Genetic Blueprint: Answer to A Long Lifespan
D. Lifestyle and Environment: Key Factors in Lifespan
D
You see a fantastic offer, like a hotel room. You decide to book. Then it turns out there is a service fee. Then a cleaning fee. Then a few other extra costs. By the time you pay the final price, it is no longer the fantastic offer you thought.
Welcome to the world of drip pricing—the practice of promoting something at an attractive headline price and then, once you’ve committed to the purchase process, hitting you with unavoidable add-ons that are “dripped”.
In most cases, you see through all additionally added mandatory fees, and even though you could give up the deal, you choose to bite the bullet and complete the deal. Resistance to the idea of starting the search all over again is not simply a matter of laziness or indecision. There’s a profound psychological mechanism(机制)at play here, called the present bias (偏见).
In the paper, Doing It Now or Later, economist Matthew Rabin defines people’s present-biased preference via an example of choosing between doing seven hours of unpleasant activity on April 1 or eight hours two weeks later: If asked on February 1, most people will choose the earlier option. But come April 1, given the same choice, most of us tend to put off work till April 15. In simple terms, the inconvenience of doing something “right now” often feels disproportionately large. Beyond the challenge of starting over, there’s another psychological phenomenon that drip pricing uses—loss aversion (厌恶). Imagine you’re booking tickets for a show. Initially attracted by the headline price, you’re now presented with different seating categories. Seeing a VIP ticket is within your budget, you decide to fork out. But then, during the checkout process, the drip begins. You realize you could have chosen lower-category seats, but by this stage, you’ve already imagined yourself enjoying the show from those nice seats. Going back to a cheaper seat will feel like a loss.
Buyers would benefit from a ban on drip pricing. Many countries are taking steps to protect consumers from drip pricing. The effectiveness of such measures, however, is uncertain. Nonetheless, you can hopefully make a more informed decision by understanding why the strategy works.
32. Which of the following is an example of drip pricing?
A. FlightHub introduces a bonus after you choose their flight.
B. Rent-A-Car charges wear and tear fees beyond the advertised price.
C. Airbnb offers you a membership account when you book a trip.
D. Ticketmaster provides optional items at later stages of your purchase.
33. What can we learn from para 3?
A. Present bias stops people from completing the disappointing deal.
B. Most people fail to notice the extra mandatory fees charged in the deal.
C. Not all people refuse to restart the search because of laziness or indecision.
D. People would rather give up the deal than bite the bullet to finish it.
34. How will Rabin explain people’s refusal to cancel an order and remake one?
A. People are likely to blindly stick to their original intentions.
B. People like to grab earlier rewards and delay immediate costs.
C. People struggle to make a decision among multiple choices.
D. People tend to tolerate additional costs within their budget.
35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To explain why people fall into the drip pricing trick.
B. To educate customers on how to deal with drip pricing.
C. To call on governments to protect consumers’ interests.
D. To introduce two psychological phenomena about spending.

Ever use an AI chatbot? If so, it’s collecting your data. In most cases, some companies use your information to train their AI. 36 On ChatGPT, you may want to limit the information it collects. Here are what I’ve done to protect my privacy on ChatGPT, and how you can too.
Use a temporary (临时的) chat. When you sign in with an account, ChatGPT will keep a history of your conversation. 37 Just make it a temporary chat. Click the Turn on Temporary Chat icon. You can feel freer to discuss personal topics without being memorized.
38 The model will get trained by OpenAI based on your conversations. Though the data aren’t supposed to be associated with your account, you may still want to disable this option to prevent any personal information from being shared. Click your account name and select Settings > Data controls. If the setting “Improve the model for everyone” is on, switch it off.
Don’t sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft. For your ChatGPT account, you can use your Google, Apple, or Microsoft accounts or sign up with your email address. But ChatGPT will share your information with Google and Microsoft. My advice is to avoid using your Google or Microsoft account. If choosing Apple, use the Hide My Email option. Sign up with your own email address and a strong ChatGPT account password is best. 39
Turn off memory. ChatGPT can remember information based on what you reveal in your conversations. Then, the AI can reference what it knows about you to better personalize your conversations. For example, inform it that you’re a vegetarian. 40 To prevent this situation, turn off Reference saved memories.
A. Shut off model training.
B. Sort out your conversations.
C. Others even sell the data to advertisers.
D. Your chat history should be deleted regularly.
E. There is a way to prevent your conversation from being recorded.
F. This avoids linking your new account to other existing online ones.
G. The information will influence any future recipes you might ask the AI to create.

第二节 续写 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Relay races (接力赛) were often the most exciting sports, but for Tom, a new member of his school's relay team, passing the stick was awkward and clumsy. As the third runner, his problem was to catch the stick smoothly from the second runner and pass it to Jake, the final runner. In their first practise, Tom messed up the pass to Jake repeatedly–sometimes too early, making Jake slow down suddenly, sometimes too late, causing Jake to miss the passing zone. These mistakes ruined their teamwork.
After the practise ended, Jake stormed over to Tom. “Your careless and unsteady passes will make us lose the game!” he shouted angrily. Tom hung his head low and felt fully responsible for the messy practise. He even thought about quitting the relay team to focus on running races alone, because the pressure of cooperating with teammates was so uncomfortable compared to the freedom of running alone. Jake turned away in anger without saying another word, barely ignoring the coach who walked over to try to calm both of them down.
The next day, the coach gathered the team for stick-passing practise. “I know you’re upset,” he said gently, “but relay races need teamwork and trust–that's the key to smooth passes.” To make it feel like a real competition, he set up game-like situations with teammates cheering nearby. He taught them to keep a steady speed, make eye contact, adjust their pace to match each other, and use simple hand signals. The repeated practise helped improve their performance. Tom grew confident and Jake gave him encouraging nods.
A week of intense training passed, and the relay competition arrived. Tom felt a little nervous. Before the race, the team gathered, and the coach told them to believe in each other and stay calm. Jake patted Tom on the shoulder firmly, “I trust you. We’ve practised enough.” Tom nodded, turning nervousness into motivation.
At the sound of the starting gun, all runners shot out.

Dear Mark,
Thanks for sharing the disqualified photo case with me. After giving it some thought, I fully support the judges' decision.
At its heart, photography is the art of capturing an authentic moment–a beautiful scene that inspires awe, a touching memory that stays with us, or a real event that makes people think deeper. An Al-generated image, no matter how stunning, simply cannot carry that essential truth. More troubling still is the unfairness it brings. While other competitors spent hours taking the perfect shot or waiting patiently for the first light of dawn, the submission of an AI creation skips that entire journey of hard work and skill. To reward such a shortcut would not only hurt the contest's fairness but also make the real efforts of every other participant seem completely meaningless.
It was undoubtedly the right decision. What's your perspective? (133)
Best wishes,
Li Hua
续写
One possible version:
Para 1: Soon, the stick was coming to Tom. His heart beat fast, but he remembered the coach's words: “Keep the same speed and look at each other.” As the second runner came close, Tom slowed down a little, reaching his hand back. He felt the stick touch his palm–he caught it! Then he ran as fast as he could toward Jake, trying not to hear the loud cheers. When he was almost there, he looked straight at Jake, who had already started running. Tom quickly passed the stick, and Jake held it tightly. It worked! Tom stopped, breathing heavily, and watched Jake run to the finish line. It was very close. Jake leaned forward at the last second, and their team won by just a step!
Para 2: After the narrow win, the coach came over to Tom with a big smile. “That perfect pass made the win possible!” he said happily. Jake ran over too, still out of breath but smiling widely. “We did it together!” he said loudly, giving Tom a high-five. At that moment, Tom felt truly happy and part of the team. He used to think running alone was best, but now he understood that winning with others felt even better. The relay stick, which once made him nervous, now reminded him that trusting his teammates was the key to their success.

M: No, thanks. I just need one.

M: You have one more week here before you get transferred to the Chicago office.
W: I've already organized all the files. I fully intend to use this time to clean up the office before I leave.
Text 3
M: I've found the perfect Mother's Day present. It's a beautiful necklace, but I can't afford $300.
W: Well, jewelry is a timeless gift. But you don't have to break the bank to show Mom love.
Text 4
W: I don't think I'll need a master's degree in economics. Just a bachelor's degree should be enough for most jobs.
M: You've come this far in your education, and you might as well take the next step. Then you can join the world of work.
Text 5
M: You finally got on the line! Where are you, Sarah? I've been waiting for you for 30 minutes
W: I'm almost there! The bus station is only one block away.
M: All right, but I think it's going to rain. I'll wait for you in the mall.
Text 6
W: Are you close to finishing that, honey?
M: Far from it. I still need at least two hours.
W: You should talk to your boss someday. He can't always give you tasks when you're off work.
M: Yeah. I'll talk to him someday, honey.
W: Anyway, our neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, are still waiting for us to go to the theater together.
M: Sorry, I'm afraid I can't go with you and our kids this time. The sales report is needed for tomorrow's meeting. I have to finish it.

W: Would you like to eat out with me after work? We haven’t grabbed a bite together since we finished that big project last week.
M: Oh, I'd love to but my family is throwing a party for my grandma’s 96th birthday. I need to go back for it.
W: 96th birthday? She must lead a very healthy life.
M: Ha... not really. She likes to eat meat, and she seldom goes outdoors to exercise. I think her secret is her optimistic attitude–she always smiles at life.
W: And life smiles back at her. Mental health is really important. Please give your grandma my regards.
M: Thanks, I will. Oh, it has started raining outside. The boss just let us off 15 minutes early today. We don't have to wait until 5:30 to get off work. We can leave right now. Are you leaving?
W: Ashley said she would come to pick me up in half an hour, so I'll just wait here.
Text 8
W: How is this new "smart bin" different from a regular recycling bin?
M: It's not just a container; it's an Al-powered sorting system. Inside, a camera identifies the material of each item you throw in–plastic, paper, metal–and then a mechanical arm sorts the item into the correct section.
W: Isn't that a bit unnecessary? And what if it makes a mistake?
M: Actually, its accuracy rate is over 99%, far better than human sorting. The real benefit is the data. It sends real-time information to the management company
W: What's the point of that data?
M: It allows for super-efficient collection routes. Instead of sending out trucks on a fixed schedule, they only dispatch them when a specific bin is nearly full. This saves fuel, reduces traffic and cuts down n carbon emissions significantly
W: So the intelligence isn't just for sorting, but for improving the entire collecting process.
M: Exactly. It's a small part of building a smarter, more sustainable city.

W: Good evening, everyone! Our guest is Kevin Olsen. Kevin works on the coast. His job is to rescue whales, fish, and seabirds when they get into trouble with pollution. Welcome to the program, Kevin.
M: Glad to be here, thank you.
W: What do you do in your job?
M: I spend a lot of time with sea animals, trying to learn what things they need in the environment. If we know that, we can help them survive in the future.
W: Can you tell us something about the disaster a short time ago?
M: OK. What happened recently was the oil disaster. The birds had oil on their wings, so they couldn't fly. And they couldn't eat the fish because the fish were covered with oil.
W: Why did you choose this job? It seems quite tough, especially since you often have to work outdoors in difficult conditions.
M: Well, I was always interested in the world of the ocean and how the plants and animals fit together in their system.
W: Thank you for coming and sharing your story with our audience,Kevin.
M: My pleasure.

M: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is Mark Harris here with this week's weather report. Although we thought we were in the clear after a week of dry weather, there's a huge storm coming in from the east. We should expect heavy snowfall by tomorrow morning. Temperatures should drop below ten degrees, so be careful when going outside. If you have to go out, dress warmly and don't go too far from home. The road conditions might be poor, so avoid driving if you can. You should stock up on food and other necessary items quickly, just in case it's difficult to leave your house once the storm hits. It looks like the storm should let up by Thursday night, with light rain expected this weekend. Next week it looks dry, but we won't be getting a break in the cold weather any time soon. On Monday, it looks like a high of five degrees below zero, and on Tuesday, we'll have a high of three degrees below zero. Sorry for all the bad news, sports fans! And that's your weather report. Have a great evening, folks! Stay warm and dry! Now, back to Drew with tonight's business news.
