It was a sunny Saturday morning. Tom, a 17-year-old high school student, was going to meet his friends at the local park to play basketball. He was excited about his plan for the day. As he was getting ready, his mother reminded him to take his jacket as it might get cold later. But Tom, thinking it would stay warm, ignored her advice and rushed out of the house.
When he arrived at the park, his friends were already there. They started playing basketball immediately. The game was intense and everyone was having a great time. However, after a couple of hours, dark clouds began to gather and the wind picked up. Soon, it started to rain heavily. Tom and his friends quickly ran to the nearby shelter, but they were already soaked.
Tom regretted not listening to his mother. He was shivering with cold and his teeth were chattering. His friends tried to warm him up, but it didn’t seem to help much. Just then, Tom’s mother showed up with a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. She had seen the change in the weather and guessed that the boys might be in trouble. Tom felt both embarrassed and grateful. He realized that sometimes parents’ advice, even if it seems unnecessary at first, can be very valuable.

Tu Youyou is a committed and patient Chinese scientist. She was born in Ningbo in 1930 and graduated from Peking University Medical School in 1955. She has devoted most of her life to medical research.
In the 1960s, malaria spread widely and killed millions of people all over the world. In 1969, Tu Youyou was appointed as the leader of a research project, aiming to find an effective cure for the deadly disease malaria. Her team reviewed hundreds of traditional medical documents and did plenty of experiments on various plants.
At the early stage, their research met with many difficulties and got stuck. The team’s method of boiling sweet wormwood failed to produce effective results. However, Tu Youyou refused to give up. She carefully studied ancient medical texts again and finally found a key solution. High temperature would destroy the medical properties of sweet wormwood, so the researchers had to adopt a low-temperature extraction method.
After more than 190 failed attempts, Tu’s team finally made a breakthrough in 1971. They discovered artemisinin, a powerful substance that can treat malaria efficiently. To guarantee the safety of the new medicine, Tu Youyou and her team members volunteered to test the drug on their own bodies.
Thanks to artemisinin, countless lives suffering from malaria have been saved worldwide. In 2015, Tu Youyou received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her extraordinary discovery. She always insisted that the achievement should belong to the whole team and traditional Chinese medicine.

30.What can we learn about artemisinin from the passage?
A.It was found after fewer than 190 tries
B.It is ineffective for treating malaria
C.It is a powerful cure for malaria
D.It was discovered by Tu alone

A.Humorous and creative B.Committed and persistent
C.Cautious and shy D.Generous and outgoing

It all began one ordinary afternoon in world history class when Mrs. Bartlett announced a new group project. We were asked to create a newspaper about the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we each wrote down the names of three friends we hoped to work with. After collecting all the requests, Mrs. Bartlett said she would consider our choices and announce the groups the next day. I had no doubt that I would be with my best friend. We had chosen each other.
The next day, after the bell rang, Mrs. Bartlett called for our attention and started to read out the group lists. When she reached group three, my best friend’s name was called, followed by three others—but not mine. There had to be some mistakes!
Then I heard my name in the last group—with Linn, who always kept to herself, Marsha, who had just transferred to our school from South Africa, and Jeremy, who spoke typical Japanese English!
Tears welled up in my eyes. How could I face being in a group with “the invisible”! I just wanted to be with my friends.
Fighting back tears, I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. She seemed to know what I was going to say. I was determined to convince her I should be in the “good” group. “Why?” I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder, “I know what you want, Karina,” she said, “but your group needs you. I’m counting on you to help them do the job well. Only you can.” She looked into my eyes and continued, “Get to know them, and you might be surprised at what they can do.”
I was stunned, humbled, and deeply moved. “So, will you help them?” she asked. “Since you trust me, let me try,” I replied.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
I gathered them to discuss how to finish our job.

But now I can tell you that we plan to go surfing and boating tomorrow morning, with climbing for those who are less crazy about water sports. Well, back to today. Because it’s the “getting-to-know-you day”, we’ll just be hanging out around the camp. Now, we always organise an outdoor treasure hunt on the first day. But because it’s raining outside, we’ve moved it to our sports hall, where we have set up all the equipment. Alright, let me tell you about today’s sleeping places. Boys, those of you with a red hat are sleeping in the red building by the river. And if you have a blue one, you’re on the opposite side of the red building, in the tree house. Now for the girls, those with a pink hat, you’re in the wooden house over there. Girls with a yellow hat will be staying in the big tents under the trees. So, take ten minutes to drop your things off and then come back here for a tour of the camp. And if any of you are not happy with where you’re sleeping, just come and tell me and we’ll try to work something out.

37.B
The way为主语;you look at people是省略了关系词in which/that的定语从句,修饰先行词the way;doesn’t give为谓语;them是间接宾语;a good impression是直接宾语。 Attr. V. Oi. Od。

此处为状语从句的省略结构,完整的从句为when you are finding friends on the Internet,省略和主句一直的主语you和be动词are,保留现在分词finding。

The Person I Admire MostDear fellow students,
There are many respectable people around us. The person that I admire most is my English teacher, Miss Li, who has been teaching us for three years.
I admire her for several reasons. First, she is very knowledgeable, and what she teaches is always interesting and easy to understand. Second, she is extremely patient. Whenever we have questions, she will explain them again and again until we fully grasp the knowledge, which I think is really admirable. Her influence on me is profound. She has made me realize that learning is a continuous process and that we should never be afraid of difficulties.
I’m determined to follow her example and become a knowledgeable and patient person in the future.
Thank you!

67.例文
I gathered them to discuss how to finish our job. I started by encouraging them to share their thoughts. Linn had a deep understanding of the cultural details, Marsha brought unique insights from her South African background, and Jeremy’s knowledge of Japanese culture was impressive. We divided the tasks based on everyone’s strengths. Every time we met, we communicated actively, and the initial awkwardness gradually turned into a harmonious collaboration. To our surprise, the newspaper we created was graded A.
The real success of our group wasn’t just the A we received. It was the friendships we built and the lessons we learned. I got to know Linn, Marsha, and Jeremy beyond my initial impressions. We started hanging out after school, sharing stories from our different cultures. Mrs. Bartlett’s decision taught me not to judge people by their appearance. This project made me realize that diversity can bring unexpected strengths, and stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to wonderful surprises.
