My grandma is 72 years old. Like many old people, she used to be afraid of smartphones. She thought they were too difficult and preferred cash. But everything changed when she moved to the city to live with us last year.
At first, she felt lonely because she knew few neighbors. One day, I taught her how to use a shopping app. To her surprise, she could buy fresh vegetables without going out on rainy days. Later, she learned mobile payment. Now she pays by scanning a QR code in shops, just like young people.
Grandma also joined a video chat group with her old friends from the village. They share photos of their grandchildren and talk every evening. “I feel much closer to them now,” she said.
The biggest change is her confidence. Last month, she even taught another elderly neighbor how to order a taxi online. “Age is just a number,” she laughed. Technology has not only brought convenience to her life, but also helped her stay connected with the world.

Confucianism, a teaching system of general virtues in China and even the world, talks about one’s behaviors, beliefs and faith. The Five Constants of Confucianism (儒家五常) are Ren, Yi, Li, Zhi and Xin.
Ren, the feeling of care and love we are expected to have, is widely recognized as the most important principle in life. Confucius is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.”
Li is about duty or respect and the way we connect with people. Ideas of Li also include the proper ways to interact with others. While Ren is about our opinions and feelings, Li is about how to express our opinions and feelings towards others and even the world around us.
Xin, the most significant Confucian virtue, is the attitude we have towards others. In Confucianism, Xin is the key to developing a good and ordered society. Without Xin, the whole world would fall into a mess.
Confucius’ successful disciple
Confucius (孔子) taught and trained 3,000 followers. Yan Hui was the most outstanding one. He practised Confucianism, and “Ren” was its core concept. His famous saying is “to say less but do more, be modest and tolerant”.
Confucius’ influence on later generations
Under the influence of Confucius, Chinese thinkers of later generations believe that students should not only increase their knowledge, but also broaden their minds and enhance (提高) their spiritual ideas.
28. In which SECTION of the magazine can we see the material?
A. SPORTS. B. HISTORY. C. BUSINESS. D. CULTURE.
29. What is the best Chinese for Yan Hui’s saying?
30. In the Five Constants of Confucianism, which is the most important for a harmonious society?
A. Ren. B. Li. C. Xin. D. Yi.
31. Which of the following belong to the ideas of “Li”?
①Show love and care ②Have duty and respect ③Express opinions and feelings④Behave in good ways
⑤Hold the proper attitude⑥Teach patiently
A. ①②③ B. ②④⑤ C. ②③④ D. ③④⑥
D 29. A 30. C 31. C
根据倒数第二段关于颜回的描述“His famous saying is ‘to say less but do more, be modest and tolerant’”可知,这句话意为“少说多做,谦逊宽容”,即“寡言笃行,谦逊宽容”。
根据第四段关于信的描述“Xin is the key to developing a good and ordered society”可知,“信”是构建和谐有序社会的关键。
根据第三段关于礼的描述:“Li is about duty or respect”对应②“尽职尽责,尊重他人”;“proper ways to interact with others”对应④“举止得体”;“Li is about how to express our opinions and feelings”对应③“表达自身想法情感”。

空前“He lived during the Spring and Autumn Period”介绍了老子的生活时期,空后“His most famous work is the Tao Te Ching”提到了他的著作《道德经》。选项B“Laozi is known as the founder of Taoism (道教).”
空前提到“people should live in harmony with nature”,选项A“He believed that we should not try to control everything.”
E“Not much is known about Laozi’s early life.”
空前“Laozi’s ideas are still studied by people all over the world.” C“He is respected globally as a wise thinker.”

后文引出结果从句he could not play it well,构成so…that…“如此……

Grandma also joined a video chat group with her old friends from the village. They share photos of their grandchildren and talk every evening. “I feel much closer to them now,” she said.
