In the past, students had few ways to learn new things outside school. 2 They could only get information from books, teachers or dictionaries. If they wanted to learn more, they had to walk to libraries and spend much time looking for useful information. They knew almost nothing about online study. 3 They kept in touch with friends or family by writing letters. It usually took a long time to get a reply. When they were free, they often played outside or did simple sports with their classmates. Most of them lived a simple but enjoyable life. Now great changes have taken place around them. 4 With mobile phones and the internet, students can learn almost everything they like online. They can chat with friends at any time and know the latest news in a short time. These changes bring them both advantages and disadvantages. 5 If they use new technology properly, it will surely make their life more colourful and meaningful. It usually took a long time to get a reply.”(他们通过写信与亲友保持联系,通常要等很久才能收到回信),讲的是过去“沟通”的方式。空缺处作为段首句,应概括本段主题。选项A“They also communicated in very slow ways.”(他们沟通的方式也非常慢)中的“also”承接上一段关于“学习途径少”的内容,引出本段关于“沟通慢”的对比,且“slow”与后文“写信、很久才收到回信”完全呼应。 4.本段讲现在的变化,前一句提到“Now great changes have taken place around them.”(现在他们周围发生了巨大变化),后一句提到“With mobile phones and the internet, students can learn almost everything they like online.”(有了手机和互联网,学生几乎可以在线学习任何喜欢的内容)。空缺处应说明现在学生拥有了手机等工具。选项D“More students have their own mobile phones now.”(现在更多学生拥有了自己的手机)承接“变化”,并引出后文“有了手机和互联网”的具体描述。 5.前一句提到“These changes bring them both advantages and disadvantages.”(这些变化给他们带来好处,也带来弊端),后一句提到“If they use new technology properly, it will surely make their life more colourful and meaningful.”(如果他们以正确的方式使用新科技,它一定会让生活更加丰富多彩和有意义)。空缺处应强调“正确使用”的重要性。选项C“It is important for them to use new tools correctly.”(对他们来说,正确使用新工具很重要)中的“use... correctly”与后文“use new technology properly”完全呼应,且承接前文“利弊共存”的论述,点明趋利避害的关键。 (三) For decades, young people in rural China moved to cities for better jobs. 1 Many villages were left with only the elderly. But now, a new trend is reversing this flow. Li Ming, 28, left his village in Sichuan for a factory job in Guangzhou in 2018. 2 In 2023, he returned. “I used to think only cities offered chances,” he says. “Now, our village has high-speed Internet and a new road. I can sell our local products online and make a good living.” Li is not alone. Across China, thousands of young people are going back. They are starting guesthouses, opening online shops, and creating new businesses. 3 What has made this change possible? Better roads and railways, high-speed Internet, and government support have all helped. Villages are no longer as isolated as they used to be. However, this change comes with challenges. Thanks to a system invented by Louis Braille, blind people can learn to use their fingers to read. In 1809, Braille was born in a small town in France. 1 Later, his other eye was infected, resulting in complete blindness. His blindness inspired him to become an inventor who made contributions to all blind people. When Braille was ten years old, his parents sent him to a special school for blind students. Braille learned how to read at this school. He was first taught to read by feeling raised letters on paper. 2 Too many letters felt the same, for they had similar shapes. Then, in 1821, Braille heard about a night-reading code system. It was a 12-dot (12凸点) system that was created for night-time communication between soldiers. However, this system didn’t allow the fingertip to cover a whole letter. The readers had to move their fingers to feel the letters. 3 Three years later, Braille developed a shorter and simpler touch system based on the night-reading code system. He used six raised dots with different combinations (组合) to stand for each letter. 4 Blind people could read much faster and more easily. Braille died in 1852, but his touch system lives on. 5 A.It allowed a blind person to feel a whole letter without moving his or her finger. B.Now people call this touch system Braille in honor of Louis Braille. C.Braille thought that the night-reading code system could be improved for blind people. D.However, this was slow and difficult. Everybody needs something to work towards. An hour of studying each night? Fifty pages read throughout the week? Make certain goals you can reach for. 1 ●Work in a study group It has been shown that students studying in a small group get better results. 1 So ask your friends and make plans for studying. But choose the people you’re studying with carefully. ● 2 It’s important that you finish it on time. If you want to actually understand your homework, do it attentively. When you get home after school, sit down and get it over with. Then you can do other things and not worry about it the next morning. ●Take breaks more often than you think When you want to learn something, you’ll always think, “Study, study some more until you have it down.” Actually, that’s not how it works. 1 When you take breaks, your attention and memory are improved. It is about studying in a smarter way. 1 First, set clear goals. 2 For example, if you want to improve your English, you can set a goal like “I will learn 10 new words every day.” Clear goals help you know what to do and give you motivation. Second, manage your time well. Make a study plan and follow it. 3 Don’t wait until the last minute to study for an exam. Third, be active in class. 4 Ask questions when you don’t understand something. Discuss with your classmates and share your ideas. This will help you understand things better. It requires efforts and correct methods. So how can you solve your problems and make study easier? Make a study plan When you make a study plan, you should think about what needs to be finished. Think about all kinds of questions that will appear on the tests in different subjects. 1 . So, you won’t waste your time on something less important. Study in a 1-hour period Keep your study time shorter in case you feel tired easily. However, it requires you to use time wisely. Set aside an hour for each of your subjects so that 1 . Remember to pay attention to just one subject at a time. You probably mix up the information of different subjects if you review too many subjects each time. Go over concepts (概念) many times Repeat information to keep it in mind. 1 . It can’t help you remember the information for a long time. While you’re studying, repeat the concepts out aloud or write them down at least three times so that you’re more likely to remember them. Here are some practical tips to help you remember better in class and during exams. 1 When the teacher is talking, put away your phone and look at the board. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back. 2 For example, if you learn about “photosynthesis” (光合作用), think of it as “plants making food with sunlight”. This creates a stronger connection in your brain. Take handwritten notes. Research shows that writing by hand helps you remember more than typing. 3 It forces your brain to summarize and understand. Review within 24 hours. 4 Spend 10 minutes going over your notes after class, and then again before you go to sleep. This moves information from short-term to long-term memory. Teach someone else. When you explain a concept to a friend or even to yourself out loud, you are actively recalling it. 5 A.This makes the memory stronger. B.Try to connect new things with what you already know. C.You should eat a big breakfast every morning. D.Pay full attention during class. E.The brain forgets quickly if you don’t review. F.Watching TV can also improve your memory.
