Weekend Trade School Classes
More adults are changing jobs or learning new skills while working full-time. Weekend and evening trade school programs make it easier to get trained without giving up your job.
Who benefits most:
•Parents who cannot attend weekday classes.
•Workers looking for higher-paying trade jobs.
•Adult learners who want flexible training.
•Job changers who want new skills while still employed.
Weekend schedules are often shorter, so students can finish hands-on training in 6 to 12 months.
How to Choose the Best Weekend Trade School
•Check official rules: Look for local government permission.
•Confirm licensing: Make sure the courses meet your state’s requirements.
•Ask about job results: Good schools have partnerships with local employers.
•Compare class sizes: Smaller labs mean more personal guidance.

Dino’s Barbershop in Kingston has been open for more than 30 years. It was established by Dino Bartzis, a well-known and beloved barber in Kingston’s Greek community. Dino was known for his friendly manners and treating customers like his family. He was well-respected in Kingston’s Greek community and beyond.
Sadly, Dino passed away in July 2021, but his legacy (遗产) continues on with his son, Tony, with other barbers continuing his tradition. Tony wasn’t always a barber. He had previously worked in a field completely unrelated to barbering. Barbering was totally new for Tony, but after losing his father, he felt a strong pull to step in and carry on what his father had built.
While still grieving (悲伤) the sudden loss of his father, Tony knew the importance of his dad’s barbershop to Kingston’s Greek community and that he had to keep the shop open, not only for the people who have relied on the barbershop for great friendly haircuts, but for himself, his family and for his dad’s legacy to be carried on.
So Tony acted quickly, signing up for a barbering program in Ottawa. It was a fast-paced experience, but he was fully committed to learning the craft properly and getting the certificates he needed to reopen the barbershop. At the same time, he gave the barbershop a slightly more modern look to help attract the newer generations of customers as well.
During the first week of 2023, Tony reopened Dino’s Barbershop, with the same amazing staff, and collectively they have maintained the same family-orientated and welcoming environment that Dino’s Barbershop has always been known for. Tony’s only wish is that his father could be present to witness his shop today and see the diverse customers that visit and call it home. Dino would be particularly proud that his legacy continues to serve and inspire the next generation. Dino’s Barbershop is more than just a place for haircuts; it’s a place where people connect, build relationships and share special moments every day.
24.What motivated Tony to take over his father’s barbershop?
A.His commitment to the community service.
B.His financial pressure after losing his job.
C.His desire to modernize traditional craft.
D.His passion for barbering since childhood.
25.What did Tony’s preparations to reopen the barbershop involve?
A.New staff and a price adjustment. B.Redecoration and skill certificates.
C.Hairstyle diversity and online booking.
D.Shop expansion and customer surveys.
26.What is a special aspect about Dino’s Barbershop?
A.It charges the lowest in the community. B.It mainly serves the elderly people.
C.It creates a family-like community space.
D.It hires professional barbers from abroad.
27.What is the text mainly about?
A.Greek community in Kingston. B.Competition between barbershops.
C.Skills training in modern barbering. D.A son continuing his father’s legacy.

Technically, the airship is all a load of hot air, an aircraft made of a vast balloon filled with nearly weightless lifting gases. If it makes you think of old black-and-white pictures, you are right. Airships were popular at the beginning of the 20th century before airplanes took over. Now, they are making a comeback.
Though an airship, which typically flies at around 100-130km/h, won’t ever reach the speeds of a jet plane, they are being talked about as a form of slow travel like ships and night trains, where the experience makes up for the speed. The large balloon could run on electric engines, making it a zero-carbon emitting form of air transport. “Airships can stay in the air for a long time, and their ability to fly vertically (垂直) up,” said leading aviation expert Thomas Thessen.
The world’s largest aircraft, the LTA Pathfinder 1, is being tested in Silicon Valley, California. LTA is one of a handful of airship manufacturers worldwide that is ready to enter the aviation market. It believes that next generation airships can reduce the carbon footprint of aviation by using the helium (氦气) inside the balloon to do the lifting, rather than a carbon-emitting jet engine. Applications for their airship include more efficient cargo transport from port to port, and humanitarian aid, where the airship can support relief efforts by delivering supplies even if runways, roads and ports are damaged.
French company Flying Whales is also currently developing airships for cargo use, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of cargo transport, while British firm HAV is focused on how a hybrid airship, using electric engines as well as helium, can unshackle a zero-emission form of air travel.
While sustainable aviation still has a long way to go to be a mass travel solution, it all adds up to a mini revolution in the skies. Along with sustainable aviation fuel and electric planes, the new generation of airships is offering an alternative to our carbon-heavy flying.
28.How does the author account for airships’ return?
A.By listing various advantages. B.By doing scientific researches.
C.By showing outdated pictures. D.By providing enough statistics.
29.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A.A research on the LTA Pathfinder 1.
B.The important status of Silicon Valley.
C.The positive outlook for future airships.
D.A comparison between airships and planes.
30.Which has the closest meaning to the underlined word “unshackle” in paragraph 4?
A.Unpack. B.Unlock. C.Unload. D.Untie.
31.What does the author want to convey in the last paragraph?
A.Airships consume sustainable fuel. B.Airships see large-scale application.
C.Airships have underlying limitation. D.Airships are valuable to some extent.

Cooking is a unique cultural phenomenon at the core of human creative efforts. Recipes, flavour, nutrition, and health form the pieces of the food puzzle. In the last decade, computer-based food science has developed as a powerful data science aided by structured collections of cooking databases, field-specific algorithms (算法), and applications.
For instance, RecipeDB, a structured collection of recipes from global cuisines and underlying algorithms that can identify culinary (烹饪的) elements, is ripe for exploration. This organized database can help estimate the nutritional value of dishes, among other things. Similarly, FlavorDB represents the taste and smell correlates (相关的事物) of food ingredients, recording the reasons behind their use in cooking. Data from studies on the health effects of food and estimated carbon footprints of recipes highlight important health and environmental impacts, crucial for public health and sustainability.
Attempts have been made to develop recipe generation algorithms via text generation and LLMs, like Ratatouille, powered by 118,000 global structured recipes and advanced named entity (实体) recognition. Yet it is harder to evaluate computer-generated recipes than LLM-written poetry, paintings or music. The “Turing Test for Chefs” has experts rate recipes — both traditional and AI-generated — on a scale from 0 (AI-made) to 5 (human-made). Delhi hotel management final-year students tested Ratatouille, with LLM models achieving 69.88% F1-score success. The algorithm behind it provided detailed instructions on ingredients and quantities, pre-processing steps, cooking steps, and the appropriate cookers and methods.
Novel recipe-generation strategies have the potential to create tasty and nutritious dishes with public health consequences. When combined with appropriate data, these can also generate personalised, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable recipes. However, taste will remain a crucial factor in the acceptance of AI-generated recipes. Therefore, the skill and creativity of chefs will be essential to make sense of the output of AI. More and more cooking-related data is available now, and cooking involves complex senses. AI will help boost people’s creativity, but it can never take people’s place.
32.What do RecipeDB and FlavorDB have in common?
A.They focus on health effects. B.They teach cooking methods.
C.They explain the cooking logic(逻辑). D.They analyse food interactions.
33.What do we know about Ratatouille?
A.It resolved taste-related issues. B.It offered standardized operations.
C.It skipped pre-processing steps. D.It outperformed professional chefs.
34.Why is AI unlikely to replace chefs?
A.It lacks consideration of taste. B.It misses enough culinary data.
C.It creates dishes without novelty. D.It misinterprets customers’ needs.
35.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Judges of AI Recipes B.Keys to Tasty Dishes
C.“Rulers” of the Cooking Area D.A New “Cook” in Our Kitchen

The Yi People’s Torch Festival, a national-level intangible cultural heritage, is grandly celebrated from late June to early July in Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, where the majority of Yi ethnic groups reside. 36 . This 2000-year-old heritage originates from ancient Yi people’s fire worship and harvest prayer ceremonies.
In Yi’s ancient civilization, fire carries sacred symbolic meaning. 37 . Local villagers believe that lighting torches in midsummer can drive away pests, eliminate plagues (消除瘟疫) and pray for a bumper autumn grain harvest. The three-day festival contains complete traditional ethnic rituals (仪式). Villagers parade with pine torches around villages at dusk. Afterwards, locals gather around huge bonfires to sing folk songs, perform ethnic dances and play traditional ethnic musical instruments. 38 .
For a long time, this ethnic ICH faced narrow public influence. It was only popular in remote mountainous ethnic areas. Restricted by poor transportation and backward publicity, few outside tourists knew about this distinctive midsummer festival. 39 . Local governments combine ethnic heritage display with rural summer tourism during the tourist peak season.
Nowadays, countless domestic and foreign tourists flood into these mountainous areas to experience its grand bonfire parties. Local teenagers are organized at school to learn festival rituals, acting as core new-generation inheritors. The once secluded ethnic heritage has stepped onto a broader public stage.
40 . It boosts local rural tourism, promotes sales of ethnic specialties and creates grassroots jobs for mountain residents. This cultural tourism model helps remote ethnic areas realize sustainable development without losing unique ethnic features.
A.It is regarded as “the Ethnic Carnival of Southwest China”.
B.It stands for purity, disaster prevention and crop prosperity.
C.Fire worship is the most simple ritual among all Yi ethnic traditions.
D.Most ethnic festivals rely on local government financial support completely.
E.Moreover, the festival brings obvious economic and social benefits to local areas.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On Wednesday night, it was the closing time of the mall. But there was an hour’s work, at least, to get everything cleaned up. It would be 11:00 p.m. before I finally got home. I hadn’t even had time to have dinner. I was starving. My feet ached. My whole body was filled with tiredness. I couldn’t wait to go to bed. But it would be only 6 hours before the alarm went off at 5:00 a.m. for my day job.
Things had been tight for over a year now. My husband Paul’s business had suffered a huge hit. I had a full-time job at a day care center and somehow did my homework for my college class too. Then I had to work nights at the mall. Without me taking my second job, there wouldn’t be enough money to pay the bills. Let alone buy any Christmas presents for our 15-year-old daughter, Marie. No one wanted to wake up on Christmas morning to an empty tree.
I barely even saw Paul and Marie; any girl still needs her mom. I worried about her more. Marie was growing up, but as a teenager, was she eating enough? Keeping up with her schoolwork? I wasn’t afraid of sacrifices. Everyone had to work hard for the family. I knew I was blessed to have two jobs, when millions of people couldn’t find one.
How I hoped to quit my job at the day care center and obtain a full-time degree! I had reduced to one class a term. If I quit that, there was no way I’d find the willpower to try again. Besides, wasn’t I always telling Marie to keep hoping and never give up? My mind went back to the conversation I’d had with Marie earlier. Paul had dropped off(开车送)Marie at the mall, where Marie was waiting for someone who picked up for a babysitting(当保姆) job. “Remember we’re going Christmas shopping this night,” Marie said. “ I’ll even have my own money. See you later.”
The floor was nearly done. The boss asked me to leave.
注意:
1 续写词数应为150个左右;2 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I opened the back door of the mall and saw Marie outside with a bag of food, smiling.

I pulled her tightly against me.
