In middle school, English learning gradually (逐渐地) shifts (转换) from basic vocabulary and grammar to more complex (复杂的) reading comprehension (阅读理解) and writing skills. Here are some useful learning suggestions.
Firstly, vocabulary is the foundation (基础). You should not only remember the basic vocabulary in the textbook, but also read a lot of English extra reading materials. Reading an English article for 30 minutes every day can help you review and increase (增加) vocabulary.
Secondly, develop good reading habits. Avoid finger-reading and vocal-reading. Try to read in thought-group, which can improve reading speed and is useful to the overall understanding of sentences.
Thirdly, master some reading skills. Before reading the whole article, quickly read the title, the first and last sentences of each paragraph, which can help you quickly understand the structure of the article. While reading, mark the important words and phrases, which are often the clues (线索) to understanding the article. After reading, summarize the main idea of each paragraph in one or two sentences, which is helpful to improve your logical thinking.
Finally, don’t forget to review and reflect. After reading an article, look back on the main idea of the article and the author’s point of view, and think about whether you have fully understood the content of the article. This can help you better master the knowledge and improve your learning ability.
27.According to the passage, how can we increase vocabulary?
A.Only by learning the words in the textbook.
B.By reading a lot of English extra reading materials.
C.By watching English movies.
D.By talking with foreigners.
28.What are the bad reading habits mentioned in the passage?
A.Reading in thought-group. B.Finger-reading and vocal-reading.
C.Marking key words. D.Summarizing paragraphs.
29.Why should we review and reflect after reading?
A.To remember the words.
B.To improve reading speed.
C.To better master the knowledge and improve learning ability.
D.To finish the reading task.

When I was twelve, we moved to a new house. I didn’t like it. The rooms felt cold. But we brought one thing from our old home — Grandma’s clock. It was brown, full of scratches (划痕), and made a loud “tick-tock” sound.
Grandma once said, “This clock isn’t just for time. It holds our family’s stories.” Every scratch had a memory. The deepest scratch? My dad made it when he was a boy. He tried to fix the clock with a metal stick (铁棍). The numbers at the bottom? My mom spilled (溢出) hot soup there on the day I was born.
One cold night, the clock stopped. The “tick-tock” sound I always heard was gone. I saw Dad sitting quietly in front of it. His eyes were wet. “Grandma died ten years ago today,” he said softly. Then I realized the clock wasn’t just wood and glass. It was Dad’s childhood, mom’s happy days, and all our time together.
We tried to fix it as a family. Mom held the tools, Dad opened the clock, and I cleaned the dirty glass. Suddenly, Dad laughed. “Look! Your baby tooth is here!” He pointed at a small white thing inside the clock. We laughed until tears came when we looked at it. That night, the clock started working again. Its “tick-tock” sounded even louder.
Now, when friends visit, they say, “Your home feels so warm!” They don’t see new things. They hear the clock’s sound, like a heartbeat (心跳) that ties our past to now.
Home isn’t about perfect walls or quiet rooms. It’s about keeping what you love — even if it’s an old clock that tells your family’s story.
30.What caused the deepest scratch on the clock?
A.Mom spilled hot soup.
B.The baby tooth fell inside.
C.Grandma cleaned it too hard.
D.Dad tried to fix it with a metal stick.
31.Put the following information into the correct order according to the passage.

③The family found a baby tooth.

Have you heard about animal cafés? In many zoos, you can only see the animals in cages. However, it will be easy for you to pet some cute animals in an animal café. It’s a place where you can play with animals while enjoying the food and drinks.
Cat cafés are the most popular and have been around for the longest. When you spend time with the cats, you can either interact with them or just take it easy while reading a book. The insides of many cafés are like regular houses, letting you relax as if you were at a friend’s house or even your own home. To attract more visitors, the owners of the cafés also look after other animals such as dogs, rabbits and ducks.
“Because of limited living space and busy work schedules, many young people are now unable to raise pets themselves. The pet s here satisfy their needs.” said Duan Mu, the owner of a café. Up to February 2024, there were more than 4,000 animal cafés in China.
Animal cafés can be mainly divided into two modes (模式). The first mode raises animals in the café and is usually welcomed by customers who don’t have pets. These places charge admission (收费). The second mode simply allows pets to visit and enjoy coffee time with their owners. There is no admission charge. But the customers need to order drinks and snacks if they stay in an animal café with their own pets. “I prefer to choose a café that allows me to bring along my own cat.” Yu Miao, a 30-year-old cat owner said.
Pets are the highlight of animal cafés, but they can also present trouble. Some doctors remind the probable hygiene-related (卫生相关的) food problems caused by animals. Many café owners also say that there are sometimes incidents of animals biting or scratching (抓伤) customers. It is important not to run after animals or try to pick them up by force. You are not allowed to use your camera flash when taking pictures, either.
34.What is an animal café?
35.Why do the owners of the cat cafés also look after other animals?
36.What do the customers need to do if they stay in an animal café with their own pets?

①Dad cried.
②The clock broke.
③The family found a baby tooth.
④The clock’s sound became louder.
⑤The family fixed the clock together.
A.①②⑤③④ B.②①⑤③④ C.⑤①②③④ D.②①④③⑤
32.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The clock. B.The dirty glass. C.The tool. D.The baby tooth.
33.What would be the best structure of the passage?
A.①②③/④/⑤/⑥ B.①/②③④⑤/⑥
C.①②③④⑤/⑥ D.①/②③④⑤⑥

【导语】本文是记叙文,讲述了作者一家搬家后带来奶奶留下的旧钟,这台钟承载着全家的回忆;钟停后一家人共同修钟,意外发现了作者的乳牙,钟修好后让家充满温暖,作者最终明白家的意义在于承载所爱之人的回忆与故事。
【详解】30.根据文章第2段“The deepest scratch? My dad made it when he was a boy. He tried to fix the clock with a metal stick.”可知,钟上最深的划痕是爸爸小时候用铁棍尝试修钟时造成的。
31.根据文章内容,事件先后顺序为:钟停止运作(第3段“One cold night, the clock stopped.”)→爸爸难过落泪(第3段“I saw Dad sitting quietly in front of it. His eyes were wet.”)→全家人一起修钟(第4段“We tried to fix it as a family.”)→发现作者的乳牙(第4段“Look! Your baby tooth is here!”)→钟的滴答声变得更响(第4段“That night, the clock started working again. Its “tick-tock” sounded even louder.”),对应顺序为②①⑤③④。
32.根据文章第4段““Look! Your baby tooth is here!” He pointed at a small white thing inside the clock. We laughed until tears came when we looked at it.”可知,画线词it指代前文提到的作者的乳牙。
33.文章第①至⑤段围绕奶奶的旧钟展开叙事,涵盖搬家带钟、钟承载的回忆、钟停、全家修钟、钟让家变得温暖等内容;第⑥段总结升华,点明家的真正意义是保留所爱之物、承载家庭故事。因此文章结构为①②③④⑤/⑥。
