Teachers say that the boxes help little kids study alone after school.
Seed library shines
Some teenagers from a Canadian middle school have started a “Seed Library” to help grow plants. They collect seeds from gardens and put them into paper bags with planting advice. “Take seeds, grow them, and return new seeds later,” said the team leader Helen. Brian planted the sunflower seeds from the library. Now his garden is filled with yellow flowers. “I'll save the seeds for others,” he smiled. The team will offer seed-saving classes next month.

阅读下面材料,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Necessity is the parent of all inventions. This old saying comes true in the story of Remya Jose, a 14-year-old girl from India. When Remya's mother fell ill, she had to wash clothes by hand in the nearby river. She soon found it took too much time and energy. So she decided to create a better way using bicycle parts.
Remya's invention is a pedal-powered(踏板驱动的) washing machine. The machine has a round metal drum held in a strong wooden frame(框架). A thick chain(链条) connects the bicycle pedals to a metal stick that runs through the centre of the drum. When you step on the pedals, the chain pulls the stick, making the drum go around smoothly inside the frame.
To use the machine, people first need to put in dirty clothes, soap powder(洗衣粉) and some warm water until the clothes are fully covered. Next, sit on a chair in front of the machine and start stepping on the pedals — slowly at first, then faster. The drum moves the clothes around in the soapy water, making them clean like hand washing. This machine is great for places without electricity. It saves time and helps people stay fit while doing chores.
However, success didn't come easily: sometimes the metal drum fell off, and other times water went out from the drum before cleaning finished. But Remya didn't give up. She added a special ring to stop water going out and fixed the chain tightly. Finally, her machine worked!
Remya even won a prize from India's president for her creative idea. Just as Remya wrote in her diary: Age is just a number when it comes to invention.

Throughout history, human progress has been driven by great inventions. Some of these creations have changed the world so completely that we can hardly imagine life without them.
Among these, several important inventions originated in China, showing the wisdom and creativity of ancient Chinese culture.
One of the most significant Chinese inventions is papermaking. Before its invention, people wrote on heavy materials like bamboo slips or silk, which were either too heavy or too expensive. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cai Lun improved the papermaking process by using tree bark, hemp, and old cloth. This created a light and affordable material for writing. Papermaking then spread to other parts of the world, making it much easier to record and share knowledge.
Another great invention is printing. The Chinese first used woodblock printing, carving an entire page of text onto a wooden block. Later, during the Song Dynasty, Bi Sheng invented movable type. He made individual clay characters that could be arranged and reused. This invention was a huge step forward because it allowed books to be printed more quickly and cheaply. It helped spread education and ideas far and wide.
Besides paper and printing, the compass also played a key role in world history. The ancient Chinese discovered that a magnetic spoon, when placed on a smooth plate, would always point south. Later, this became the magnetic compass, which helped sailors find their way across vast oceans. This invention made long-distance sea travel possible and greatly influenced global exploration.
These ancient inventions show us that new ideas can change the world. They remind us that creativity is not only about art or entertainment but also about solving real problems. Just like a magician on stage, an inventor sees possibilities where others do not. Their different views lead to progress that benefits everyone for generations.

In a small mountain village, there was a school with only one teacher and twenty students. Most families were poor, and children often helped with farm work after class. Few of them believed that studying could change their lives. They thought their future would be just like their parents’ — working in the fields forever. The classroom was quiet, but not the kind of quiet that comes from deep thinking.
One day, a new teacher named Miss Wang arrived. She told the students a story about a boy from a similar village who later became a scientist. “Your dreams can come true if you hold on to your ideas,” she said. At first, the students didn’t take her words seriously. But Miss Wang kept encouraging them. She showed them pictures of famous inventors and explained how their ideas changed the world. Slowly, a new thought began to grow in their minds: “Maybe we can also make a difference.”
The change did not happen overnight. However, the students started to pay more attention in class. They asked questions and shared their own ideas. Li Wei, a boy who used to hate reading, began to borrow books from the small library. He became interested in science and even built a simple water pump for his family’s vegetable garden. His parents were amazed and told their neighbours about it. Soon, more children began to think creatively and try new things.
Years passed. Some of Miss Wang’s students went to high school in the town, and a few even went to college. They returned to the village during holidays and taught younger children what they had learned. The village slowly became known for its hard-working and creative young people. A small factory was built, and many families started small businesses. The idea that “knowledge can change your fate” had taken root.
Looking back, Miss Wang’s simple words planted a seed of hope. The power of that idea spread like wildfire, transforming not only individuals but the whole community. It shows that a single positive thought, when shared and believed, can create a ripple effect that lasts for generations. The children of this village now understand that their dreams are not too big to achieve.
