2. was not only an athlete but also a true role model
3. neither talent nor luck
【实战演练】
Possible version 1:
The athlete I admire most is Quan Hongchan
She is a young diver from Guangdong who won a gold medal at Tokyo Olympics. At just 14 years old, she scored three perfect 10s and amazed the whole world. Neither her poor family background nor her young age stops her from achieving greatness. She trains harder than anyone else and never gives up, even when she feels tired or faces difficulties.
Both her talent and her strong will have deeply inspired me. She has taught me that unless you work hard, you will never reach your dreams. Her story shows that success does not come from luck. Every time I feel like giving up, I think of her and find the strength to keep going.
I believe her spirit will continue to encourage me in the future.
Possible version 2:
The athlete I admire most is Gu Ailing
She is a talented freestyle skier who won two gold medals and one silver at Beijing Olympics. Both her courage and her confidence impressed everyone who watched her compete. Neither the dangerous moves nor the huge pressure made her afraid. What I admire most is that she balances sports and studies well — she is not only an Olympic champion but also a student at Stanford University.
Her story has shown me that if you don't try your best, you may never know what you can do. She once said that she loved challenging herself, and that has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. Whenever I face difficulties in my studies or life, I remember her brave smile and tell myself to keep moving forward.
I believe her spirit will continue to encourage me in the future.

Surfing is a kind of water sport. Surfers use a surfboard to catch and ride the breaking waves.
Surfing originated in the Polynesian islands of the Pacific Ocean as well as West Africa and Peru. When Polynesians first went and lived in Hawaii about 1200 AD, they brought their love of surfing with them. Surfing was more than a sport to the early Hawaiians. It was an important part of their culture.
Hawaiians carved(雕刻) surfboards from the wood of special trees. The first boards were about 3 to 7 metres long and weighed more than 50 kilos. After World War Ⅱ, plastic foam(泡沫) board appeared and the shape improved. Today's surfboard is about 1.5 to 2.7 metres long and 11 to 26 kilos. It is light and flat, and a tail fin is fixed downside. Surfboards come in many different styles, including shortboards, longboards, and funboards.
Surfing was brought to the Western world in the early 20th century. In recent years, surfing has become popular among Chinese young sport lovers. China set up its national surfing team in 2018. When I was in primary school, PE class was my least favourite. I could run and jump like everyone else, but something was always wrong. My classmates would cheer and high-five each
other after a game while I stood there, stiff and uncomfortable. “You're not playing with your heart,” my PE teacher Mr Chen would say gently. I didn't understand what he meant. Sports were just about winning and losing to me.
Everything changed one Thursday afternoon. Mr Chen set up a simple rope for climbing in the gym. “Today, we won't compete,” he announced. “We will find our own strength.” He demonstrated how to climb and asked us to try one by one. “Forget about being the fastest. Just listen to your body.” At first, I was nervous, but slowly something amazing happened. My arms pulled, my legs pushed, and I went higher than I ever had before. For the first time, I wasn't thinking about beating others — I was feeling my own power growing inside me.
After that day, sports became a different world for me. I joined the school climbing club and learned to work with my teammates. Mr Chen always encouraged me, saying, “Everyone has strength inside. You just need to find your own.” He showed me that sports aren't about being the best; they're about becoming better than you were yesterday. The feeling of reaching the top of that rope became my joy, and I looked forward to every PE class.
Years later, I still remember that Thursday afternoon. Now I teach PE at a primary school myself. When I see students standing stiffly, afraid to try, I smile and walk over to them. I want to tell them my story — how one teacher's patience helped me find my strength. Sports have taught me that sometimes we need to stop comparing ourselves to others and just let ourselves grow. The strength was always there, waiting to be discovered.
