The first time Mr. Han returned my English speech, the last sentence was circled in red. Beside it he wrote, “Do you believe this?”
I stared at the question. My speech was about good learning habits, and the sentence said, “We should never make mistakes.” It sounded perfect to me. I had even found a similar line online.
The next day, Mr. Han asked me to read the sentence aloud. Then he placed a blank sheet of paper on my desk. “Write one English sentence you have never written before,” he said.
I wrote slowly. Halfway through, I stopped. “I’m not sure whether this verb is right.”
“Then what will you do?”
“Check it.”
“And if it is wrong?”
“Correct it.”
He smiled. “So was the sentence in your speech true?”
That small conversation stayed with me. I began to notice how often I tried to look perfect instead of trying to learn. I chose easy words in class because I was afraid of using a new one wrongly. I kept quiet when I had a question because I did not want others to think I was slow. Even when I used an AI tool, I sometimes copied a polished sentence instead of asking why it was better than mine.
For the speech contest, I changed my ending: “A good learner is not someone who never makes mistakes. A good learner is someone who knows what to do after making one.”
I did not win first prize. Strangely, I was not disappointed. On my paper, Mr. Han had written another question: “Do you believe this now?”
This time, I wrote back, “Yes.”
6. Why did Mr. Han circle the last sentence in the writer’s speech?
A. It was copied word for word. B. It had a grammar mistake.
C. It did not match real learning. D. It was too difficult to understand.
7. What did Mr. Han mainly do in the conversation?
A. He gave the writer the correct answer directly.
B. He led the writer to question his own idea.
C. He asked the writer to memorize a rule.
D. He showed the writer how to win a contest.
8. What does “look perfect” in Paragraph 10 mean in the story?
A. Avoid showing weakness or uncertainty. B. Dress carefully for a speech contest.
C. Make every sentence longer. D. Use as many new words as possible.
9. Which change best shows the writer really understood Mr. Han’s lesson?
A. He won a higher prize. B. He stopped using AI tools.
C. He accepted mistakes as part of learning. D. He wrote speeches without help.
10. What can we learn from the story?
A. A correct answer matters more than the learning process.
B. Real progress begins when we face what we do not know.
C. Students should avoid difficult tasks until they are ready.
D. Good learners rarely need to correct themselves.
C
AI tools are becoming part of students’ learning lives. Type in a question and an answer may appear in seconds. Does that mean learning has become easier? Not always.
Researchers and teachers often point to an important idea: the brain learns more when it has to retrieve information instead of simply seeing it again. For example, after reading a short passage, closing the book and trying to explain the main idea from memory can be more useful than reading the same passage again and again. The effort feels harder, but that effort can help memory grow stronger.
This idea also tells us how to use AI wisely. Suppose you are learning English. If you ask an AI tool to write a whole paragraph and then copy it, your eyes may see good English, but your brain does little work. A better way is to write first. Then you can ask the tool to point out unclear sentences, give two possible expressions, or create a short quiz from what you have learned. After that, decide for yourself what to change and why.
AI can also help with pronunciation. A learner may listen to a model, record his or her own voice, and notice differences. However, technology cannot do the speaking practice for the learner. Improvement still comes from attention, practice and reflection.
So perhaps the best question is not “Can AI give me the answer?” but “Can AI help me think, practice and check my learning?” When a tool makes your brain more active, it becomes a learning partner. When it replaces your thinking, it may become a shortcut that leads nowhere.
11. What does “retrieve” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Get information back from memory. B. Put information into a computer.
C. Read information more quickly. D. Translate information into another language.
12. Which way of using AI does the writer support?
A. Asking AI to finish a paragraph before thinking.
B. Copying useful sentences without checking.
C. Writing first and then using AI for feedback.
D. Letting AI choose every word for the learner.
13. Why does the writer mention pronunciation practice?
A. To prove AI can replace teachers.
B. To show tools help but practice is still necessary.
C. To say pronunciation is the hardest part of English.
D. To advise students to stop using recordings.
14. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?
A. Problem—idea—examples—conclusion. B. Story—problem—argument—story.
C. List—comparison—story—question. D. Opinion—history—experiment—notice.
15. What is the writer’s main purpose?
A. To warn students never to use AI.
B. To introduce the history of AI tools.
C. To explain how AI can support active learning.
D. To compare different English-learning apps.
D
When you introduce a Chinese festival in English, translating the name of a food or a custom is only the beginning. A good introduction helps the listener see why the festival matters. ____16____
Start with one central idea. For the Mid-Autumn Festival, it may be “reunion”. Once you choose it, ask yourself which details can make that idea clear. ____17____ Too many unrelated facts may leave the listener remembering nothing.
Next, turn unfamiliar culture into something the listener can enter. Suppose you mention mooncakes. Do not stop at “People eat mooncakes.” You can explain that their round shape is often connected with the full moon and togetherness. ____18____ The explanation gives the custom a reason, not just a name.
Stories need the same kind of choice. The story of Chang’e has different versions and many details. In a short introduction, you do not need all of them. ____19____ Pronouns such as “she” and “he” should also have clear referents, especially when several characters appear.
Finally, leave space for the other person. After sharing your festival, ask about a similar family day, food or story in his or her culture. ____20____ At that point, English is no longer only a school subject; it becomes a bridge between experiences.
A clear cultural introduction is therefore not a list of translated facts. It is a small act of communication: choose, explain, connect and listen.
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使文章意思通顺、内容完整。
A. Choose the events that are necessary for understanding the main idea.
B. That is why selecting information is as important as knowing information.
C. A simple question can turn your introduction into a two-way conversation.
D. This connection makes the meaning easier to understand across cultures.
E. To do that, you need to make several decisions about your message.

What could possibly be worth ____21____?
Still, I carried the camera with me. At first, I took photos only because I had made Grandpa a ____22____. An old bridge, a quiet street, a tree beside the river- nothing seemed special.

【答案】11. A 12. C 13. B 14. A 15. C
【解析】
【导语】本文主要探讨了AI工具在学生生活中的应用,核心观点是 AI 应作为学习伙伴促进主动思考,而非替代思考的捷径,文章分析了检索式学习的重要性及正确使用 AI 的方法。
【11题详解】
根据文章第二段“closing the book and trying to explain the main idea from memory...”可知,retrieve指的是合上书从记忆中解释大意,即从记忆中获取信息。
【12题详解】
根据文章第三段“A better way is to write first. Then you can ask the tool to point out unclear sentences...”可知,作者支持先自己写作,然后使用AI进行反馈的方式。
【13题详解】
根据文章第四段“However, technology cannot do the speaking practice for the learner. Improvement still comes from attention, practice and reflection.”可知,提到发音练习是为了表明工具虽有帮助但个人练习仍然必要。
【14题详解】
根据文章第一段“Does that mean learning has become easier? Not always.”提出问题,第二段提出理念,第三、四段举例,第五段“So perhaps the best question is...”总结结论,可推知结构为“Problem—idea—examples—conclusion”。
【15题详解】
根据文章第五段“When a tool makes your brain more active, it becomes a learning partner.”及全文内容可推知,作者的主要目的是解释AI如何支持主动学习。
【答案】16. E 17. B 18. D 19. A 20. C

When Grandpa gave me his old camera, I was not very excited. “It still works,” he said. “Take one photo every week. After a year, you may see something you cannot see now.” I smiled, but I didn’t really understand what he meant. Our small town looked the same to me every day. What could possibly be worth ____21____?
Still, I carried the camera with me. At first, I took photos only because I had made Grandpa a ____22____. An old bridge, a quiet street, a tree beside the river- nothing seemed special.

A boy pointed at the photo of Grandpa repairing the gate. “Is he famous?” he asked.
“No,” I said.
The boy looked at the photo again. “Then why did you put him here?”
For a moment, I didn’t know how to ____31____ an answer. Then I remembered what Grandpa had taught me-not with words, but through the way he lived.
“Because he taught me to ____32____ things that are easy to walk past.”
The boy nodded and moved to the next photo.
That afternoon, our teacher asked if the board could stay for another week. She also invited students to add their own photos, ____33____ more stories could be shared.
Soon there was hardly any empty space left.
When Grandpa finally came home, I showed him a picture of the full board. He studied it for a long time, then handed the camera back to me.
“Keep it,” he said in a ____34____ voice. “You know what to look for now.”

【21题详解】
句意:有什么东西值得去拍照呢?
根据前文“Take one photo every week”以及后文作者开始拍照的行为,可知此处指“拍摄”,photographing“拍照”符合语境;changing“改变”、remembering“记得”、protecting“保护”均不符合。
【22题详解】
句意:起初,我带着相机只是因为我对爷爷许下了一个承诺。
根据“At first, I took photos only because I had made Grandpa a”可知作者一开始拍照只是因为之前答应了爷爷,make a promise是固定搭配,意为“许诺/承诺”,promise符合语境;choice“选择”、mistake“错误”、difference“不同”均不符合。
根据后文“They were no longer pictures of streets and buildings. They were pictures of people.”,说明内容发生了性质上的变化,different“不同的”符合语境;cheaper“更便宜的”、clearer“更清晰的”、brighter“更明亮的”均非核心变化点。
