Just look around you - it’s East Asia. Nine in 10 school leavers in major East Asian cities are nearsighted, according to the BBC. Experts say books and video games are not to blame. East Asian students, they say, aren’t getting enough sunlight. People become nearsighted because their eyeballs grow out of shape and light entering their eyes cannot focus (聚焦) correctly. The body can produce a chemical called dopamine (多巴胺) to stop eyeballs from changing shape. And guess what scientists have just discovered? Sunlight can help our bodies produce more dopamine, reported AFP. According to the study, primary school students in Singapore spend only 30 minutes outdoors every day. But in Australia, kids spend three hours a day outside. As a result, fewer children in Australia are nearsighted—only 10 percent, compared with 90 percent in Singapore. “Children in East Asia basically go to school... go home and stay inside. They study and they watch television,” Ian Morgan of the Australian National University told AFP. But being a bookworm or a couch potato does not directly harm the eyes, added Morgan. “As long as they get outside, it doesn’t seem to matter how much study they do,” he explained. “There are some kids who study hard and get outside and play hard and they are generally fine. The ones who are at major risk are the ones who study hard and don’t get outside. As a result of huge educational pressures and the construction (构成) of a child’s day, the amount of time they spend outside in bright light is minimized.” Experts suggest children should stay outside for two to three hours every day. This can include time spent in the playground and walking to and from school. 34. What can we conclude from Paragraph Two? A. Dopamine is a chemical that causes eyeballs to grow out of shape. B. Dopamine can stop light entering the eyes from focusing correctly. C. Spending time in the sun helps increase levels of dopamine in the body. D. The more dopamine a person has in their body, the better eyesight he or she has. 35. According to Morgan, what kind of people are most likely to suffer from nearsightedness? A. Those who like watching TV. B. Those who take exercise regularly. C. Those who study hard and play hard outdoors. D. Those who stay indoors studying all day. 36. The underlined word “minimized” in the passage probably means ________. A. made better use of B. reduced as much as possible C. taken little notice of D. paid much attention to 37. What’s the best title of this passage? A. Eyes need to see the sun B. The most nearsighted students in the world C. People become nearsighted D. Books and video games are not to blame 【答案】34. C 35. D 36. B 37. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要分析了青少年近视率高的原因,指出阳光不足导致多巴胺分泌少是关键因素,并通过研究数据对比和专家建议,强调户外活动对保护视力的重要性。 【34题详解】 第二段提到“The body can produce a chemical called dopamine to stop eyeballs from changing shape.”以及“Sunlight can help our bodies produce more dopamine”,由此可得出晒太阳有助于提升体内多巴胺水平。 【35题详解】 第五段Ian Morgan提出“The ones who are at major risk are the ones who study hard and don’t get outside”,指整天待在室内学习的人最容易近视。 【36题详解】 第五段画线词所在句“the amount of time they spend outside in bright light is minimized”,结合前文学业压力大、孩子大多待在家,可知孩子在户外强光下的时间被尽可能缩减。 【37题详解】 通读全文可知,文章主要讲述了阳光对预防近视的作用,并建议孩子多待在户外见到阳光。因此文章的最佳标题是“眼睛需要看到太阳”。 C Last week, I finally managed to ask my parents to buy me a new football shirt for the school match. I was very excited and wore it to the training before the match, but I wished I hadn’t done that! My new shirt was torn (破损的) after the training and only a tailor (裁缝) could help! As I walked home worriedly, I saw a shop sign: All Kinds of Repairs and Services! I went inside at once. I looked around the shop and saw broken toys, broken chairs... I wondered if I was in the wrong place. Just at that moment, a man with white hair came up to me and said cheerfully, “Welcome! This is a repair shop and I can repair everything!” “But... what I need is a tailor to deal with my football shirt.” “You’ve come to the right place. I’ve been waiting a long, long time to repair a football shirt.” “Really?” I held the shirt in my hands. To my surprise, he took the shirt from me, put on glasses and sat down on the sofa with my shirt in his hands. “I guess you are a striker (前锋),” he smiled warmly. How could he know? The man gave me a wink and said calmly, “See that picture on the wall? That was me 30 years ago.” I couldn’t believe my eyes! He was Orhan, the famous footballer who was on the city team years ago! I told him I was playing for the school team and I had been his fan for years. I told him everything, my dream, my practice and even my dad’s words. “Dad thinks I should be an engineer or a doctor,” I lowered my head. “Follow your dream, choose a job you love and carry on,” the man smiled at me with his blue eyes. He patted (轻拍) me on the shoulder and put the shirt he had repaired in my bag. Today I have become a footballer and I still keep that shirt in my closet. 38. A. surprised→encouraged→excited→worried B. surprised→excited→worried→encouraged C. excited→worried→surprised→encouraged D. excited→surprised→encouraged→worried 40. What can we infer (推断) from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4? A. The old man repaired football shirts as his job. B. The old man had a special feeling for football shirts. C. The old man was relaxed when he saw the football shirt. D. The old man had waited a long time for the boy to come. 41. What does the writer mainly want to tell us? A. Two heads are better than one. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了男孩弄坏足球球衣去修理店,偶遇昔日足球明星Orhan,受到对方鼓励坚持梦想,最终自己也成为一名足球运动员的故事。 【38题详解】 第一段交代男孩的新球衣训练后破损,只有裁缝能够修好;第三段男孩说到“But…what I need is a tailor to deal with my football shirt.”,由此可知男孩走进老人的店铺,是为了修理他的足球球衣。 【40题详解】 第四段划线句子“I’ve been waiting a long, long time to repair a football shirt.”,结合第六段得知老人曾经是足球运动员,能推断老人对足球球衣有着特殊的情感。 【41题详解】 第八段老人对男孩说“Follow your dream, choose a job you love and carry on”,结尾段交代男孩后来成为足球运动员。文章告诉我们坚持梦想,终会取得成功。 D Climate change (气候变化) has brought a serious warning to the living areas of the Siberian crane, increasing the need to better protect the birds and their migratory channels (迁徙通道), an expert said. The Siberian crane breeds (繁殖) in northeast Siberia in Russia and flies to Poyang Lake for the winter in East China’s Jiangxi Province. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season in Poyang. Qian Fawen, a research professor from the National Bird Banding Centre of China, said that Poyang’s water levels decide whether it is suitable for the birds to live there. However, climate change has made the levels change often. “In some years, the lake experiences floods; in others, it experiences droughts. Both of these situations create food shortages in the cranes’ living area,” he said. The Siberian crane is listed as seriously endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. “We need to protect their living area, which is mainly wetland, so that we can protect them,” Qian said. In the recently announced National Action Plan for the Protection of Bird Migration Channels (2021—2035),1,140 places in China were considered as important breeding grounds, wintering grounds and staying stops, including Poyang and the Yellow River wetland in Ningxia. The plan said that the government should watch and count the number of migratory birds and pay farmers for losses caused by the birds. Since China joined the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1992, it has designated(指定)202,600 hectares of wetland as Wetlands of International Importance. They store and clean water, keep all kinds of living things, help store floods and prevent droughts. According to a plan announced by the central government in October, by 2025, China will have protected 55 percent of its wetlands. After the Wetlands Protection Law, the nation’s first law to protect wetlands, was introduced on June 1, 2022, complete protection was strengthened. Books and video games are not to blame C Last week, I finally managed to ask my parents to buy me a new football shirt for the school match. 38. D Climate change (气候变化) has brought a serious warning to the living areas of the Siberian crane, increasing the need to better protect the birds and their migratory channels (迁徙通道), an expert said. The law clearly explained what the government should do and introduced strict punishment for people who destroy wetland areas. It limits building at important national wetlands and it doesn’t allow harmful activities, including using them as farmlands, leaving wastewater everywhere, harvesting and fishing too much. Key nature reserve management offices in China have reported more birds wintering in the nation’s wetlands, including some new rare kinds. ________ 42. What can we learn from Paragraph 2 to Paragraph 4? A. About 95 percent of the Siberian cranes spend their winter in Poyang Lake. B. Climate change has little influence on the Siberian cranes’ living area in Poyang. C. The Siberian cranes will live in Poyang all year round if the wetland is protected. D. Water levels decide that Poyang Lake isn’t suitable for the Siberian cranes to live in. 43. Which of the following behaviors are right at important wetlands? ①building houses ②making farmlands ③limiting fishing ④leaving wastewater ⑤watching birds A. ①③ B. ②④ C. ③⑤ D. ②⑤ 44. What does this passage mainly tell us? A. The problem the Siberian cranes face and the ways people protect wetlands. B. The reason why the Siberian cranes migrate and the place they usually stay in. C. The importance of protecting the Siberian cranes and the result it will lead to. D. The loss of wetlands and the actions that have already been taken to help them. 45. What will the writer probably continue to write in “_________”? A. People have done something to protect wetlands. B. The number of the birds has increased in wetlands C. It tells a touching story about love, family, and keeping promises. The main character is Grandma Ye Shurou. She waited for her husband for 50 years after he went to Nanyang (Southeast Asia) to find work. But her husband never came back. Her grandson, Xiaowei, owes money to others. He runs away to Thailand. While there, he also wants to learn about his grandfather. But he finds out a big secret: the person who wrote letters and sent money to Grandma all her life was not her husband. It was a stranger named Xie Nanzhi. In the old days, many people from Chaoshan went to Nanyang to work. They sent letters and money home called Qiaopi. These letters were full of love and care for their families. In 2013, Qiaopi was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register (世界记忆名录) because it shows the deep love and duty Chinese people have for their families and homeland. Xie Nanzhi was thankful to Grandma’s husband. After he died, she kept writing letters and sending money to help Grandma’s family. She did this for many years. The movie shows us the hard life of Chinese people overseas. It also tells us the spirit of Chaoshan people: hard-working, kind, and loving their hometown and country.
