Four Seasonal Sports for Student Clubs
Our school sports club offers four seasonal sports this year. Each activity fits the weather of one season and helps students relax after heavy study. Beginners with no sports experience are all welcome.
Bubble Football (Spring)
It is played in soft plastic bubble suits covering players’ upper bodies. You can run and bump (碰撞) into teammates safely without getting hurt. This sport improves your courage and teamwork. It only opens from March to May on the school football field. The club prepares all bubble suits for free.
Kayak (皮艇) Rowing (Summer)
We practice rowing small kayaks on the quiet lake nearby in July and August. It builds arm strength and teaches students to keep balance on water. Students need to pass a simple swimming test before joining. The club provides life jackets free of charge, but you have to bring your own sun hats.
Indoor Epee Fencing (击剑) (Autumn)
A gentle competitive sport held in the indoor gym from September to October. Unlike most ball games, fencing focuses on quick thinking and self-control. Coaches teach basic attack and defense skills step by step. No swimming test or special outdoor clothes are required, but students need to prepare their own fencing clothes.
Snowshoe Hiking (Winter)
We walk across the snowy park with wide snowshoes in December and January. It lets you enjoy quiet winter views while exercising your legs. But there is no free equipment supply. Students must rent snowshoes at low prices before each lesson.

During Ben Cloud’s second year in high school, he took a few business classes. They filled his head with ideas to start his own. He started by naturally thinking about things he liked. First, it was clothing. Then coffee. He thought about opening up a coffee shop. But both ideas seemed too hard and costly.
Some might stop right there and keep going about their regular life. But Ben is different. He kept thinking and came up with the idea of selling his own brand of coffee. He felt like there were possibilities to do this without too much money or risk. So he took to the Internet and started doing research. He finally found a coffee bean supplier and learned about all of the rules of starting a business. It all seemed discouraging but he never gave up.
After setting up his business, Ben started to order coffee and test different kinds with his friends and family. He got suggestions and improved his products. He had a little bit of savings from his birthdays and part-time jobs over the years and didn’t want to borrow money to start his business. So, he bartered with a designer to help him with his naming, logo, product pictures, photography, and website design. He would supply them with coffee for their design talent!
After setting up his website, Ben started to sell his coffee at his local high school coffee shop. Then a restaurant. Then local shops. Ben is now working on expanding (扩大) sales of his coffee to grocery stores and more in his local community. He does have plans to expand nationally. And Ben also helps to educate other kids and inspire them as to how they might start their own business.
Ben Cloud is an excellent example of a young person pushing himself to become the best he can be. He took his passion (酷爱) and stuck with it through many challenges to create something that is not only benefiting himself but his community and other teenagers. His advice is: “never let your age stand in the way of what you want to do.”
24. Why did Ben Cloud choose to sell his own coffee brand?
A. His family could provide economic support.
B. He wanted to compete with the local coffee shops.
C. His business classes required him to finish a project.
D. He found a way to start the business with low cost and risk.
25. What does the underlined word “bartered” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Shared. B. Traded. C. Agreed. D. Helped.
26. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Ben’s coffee business grows.
B. Ben creates his website successfully.
C. Ben helps other kids to start a business.
D. Ben’s business expands nationally quickly.
27. What does Ben Cloud’s experience show?
A. Two heads are better than one. B. The early bird catches the worm.
C. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. D. All good things come to those who wait.

根据第三段“He would supply them with coffee for their design talent! (他会为设计师们提供咖啡,以换取他们的设计才能!)”可知,本是用咖啡来换取设计服务,这是一种交换行为。所以bartered表示“以物换物”,与traded意思一致。故选B项。
【26题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段“After setting up his website, Ben started to sell his coffee at his local high school coffee shop. Then a restaurant. Then local shops. Ben is now working on expanding (扩大) sales of his coffee to grocery stores and more in his local community. He does have plans to expand nationally. (搭建好个人网站后,本先是在当地高中的咖啡馆售卖自己的咖啡,接着是一家餐厅,随后又拓展到多家本地店铺。如今,他正着力将咖啡销量扩大到当地社区的杂货店及更多渠道,并且确实有向全国拓展的计划。)”可知,该段主要讲述本的咖啡生意不断发展壮大。故选A项。

C
Researchers from the University of Western Australia recently studied 3,000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these “fly-in, fly-out” parents might affect (影响) the health of their children.
A higher percentage of teenagers who experienced the long-term absence of a parent had more emotional (情绪的) or behavioral problems than those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research that found teenagers were likely to feel anxious, or even annoyed when they often returned to an empty and quiet house after school so that they even had no interest in playing games.
Findings also suggest that parents don’t have to be home all the time, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted (盆栽的) plant, which means keeping their company in silence.
Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy each other’s company without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter’s invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for a teenager and their parents to stay close and their methods of company won my likes. In fact, many years of research suggests that children use their parents as a safe base (基地) from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don’t want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom.
A new school year is at hand, so as parents, we could offer our teenagers a “potted flower” as a gift, whose quiet and steady presence will give them a great day.
28. What did the researchers try to find out about the 3,000 students?
A. How many of them lived without parents.
B. How parents’ absence influenced them.
C. What jobs their parents liked doing.
D. Whether parents helped do housework.
29. What might be the outcome for the kids with parents’ long-term absence?
A. Being more responsible. B. Getting used to quietness.
C. Having terrible feelings. D. Being addicted to playing games.
30. Who can be called “potted plant” parents?
A. Those giving their kids much freedom. B. Those asking their kids to follow rules.
C. Those always accompanying their kids. D. Those silently staying close to their kids.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards his friends’ ways of accompanying their kids?
A. Supportive. B. Unacceptable. C. Doubtful. D. Worried.
B 29. C 30. D 31. A

根据第二段“A higher percentage of teenagers who experienced the long-term absence of a parent had more emotional (情绪的) or behavioral problems than those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research that found teenagers were likely to feel anxious, or even annoyed when they often returned to an empty and quiet house after school so that they even had no interest in playing games. (与父母工作时间较为常规的青少年相比,经历父母长期缺席的青少年出现情绪或行为问题的比例更高。这印证了早期的研究:青少年放学后常常回到空荡荡、安安静静的家时,很可能感到焦虑甚至烦躁,甚至对游戏都失去兴趣)”可知,父母长期不在家的孩子可能会产生糟糕的情绪。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted (盆栽的) plant, which means keeping their company in silence. (对于青少年而言,父母最好的陪伴有时就像一盆盆栽,意思就是安静地陪伴在身边)”可知,“盆栽式”父母指安静地陪在孩子身边的父母。
【31题详解】

Students who plan to use AI tools to write their college application essays (文章) should think twice: Essays written by AI sound very similar to each other and lack personal voice, even when details (细节) like race or sex are included.
Researchers from the Cornell University compared 30,000 college application essays written by humans to ones written by eight AI tools. They discovered that AI essays were easy to tell from actual human writing because they used similar sentence patterns and repeated the same kinds of ideas.
“The application essay allows applicants to show who they are, beyond all the standard information on the application form,” said Rene Kizilcec, senior author of the new study. “AI tools can help students improve their writing and are likely a good idea for weak writers. But asking for a full article will result in something that just does not sound like any real applicant.”
The researchers explained that AI models cannot easily copy a person’s natural writing style. This makes them unsuitable for important writing tasks like college applications. When AI tools were asked to write from the view of a specific person, such as “an Asian woman from California”, the results sounded even less human. The essays often listed personal details in a boring and unimaginative way. Surprisingly, the team found that another AI program could easily tell the difference between human and AI-written essays. This means universities and colleges could likely find out essays written mainly by AI tools.
First author Jinsook Lee advises high school students to use their own ideas to brainstorm and write some simple essays, and, if allowed, use AI only to polish (润色) their essays. Applying to college can be stressful (压力大的), but Lee actually enjoyed writing her own essays. “It was a great chance to look back on my life and my background,” she said. “I think it was the first experience for me to be really thoughtful.”
32. What is a problem about AI-written essays?
A. They are short on personal style. B. They are always off-topic.
C. They use many uncommon words. D. They hardly give explanations in detail.
33. What does the paragraph 4 mainly tell us about the study?
A. Its purpose. B. Its background. C. Its researchers. D. Its findings.
34. What does Lee advise high school students to do?
A. Think for themselves when writing. B. Turn to AI models for help anytime.
C. Use AI models to organize essays firstly. D. Avoid using AI tools for any writing.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Can AI Influence Students in College Application?
B. Should Students Use AI Tools for College Essays?
C. Do Colleges Accept AI-based Application Essays?
D. Will AI Change How College Students Write Essays?
A 33. D 34. A 35. B

(人工智能写的文章听起来彼此非常相似,缺少个人表达,即使加入种族、性别这类细节也是如此)”以及第四段中“The researchers explained that AI models cannot easily copy a person’s natural writing style.
通读第四段“The researchers explained that AI models cannot easily copy a person’s natural writing style. This makes them unsuitable for important writing tasks like college applications. When AI tools were asked to write from the view of a specific person, such as “an Asian woman from California”, the results sounded even less human. 【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“First author Jinsook Lee advises high school students to use their own ideas to brainstorm and write some simple essays, and, if allowed, use AI only to polish (润色) their essays. (第一作者李珍淑建议高中生用自己的想法构思、写初稿,如果允许,仅用人工智能来润色文章)”可知,Lee建议学生写作时独立思考。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段中“Students who plan to use AI tools to write their college application essays (文章) should think twice (打算用人工智能工具撰写大学申请文书的学生应当三思)”以及后文介绍研究发现、专家观点和建议可知,文章围绕学生是否应该使用人工智能工具写大学申请文书展开。B选项“Should Students Use AI Tools for College Essays? (学生们应该用人工智能工具写大学申请文书吗?)概括文章核心话题,适合作为标题。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Nowadays, many teenagers are suffering from fashion stress. They struggle to find their identities because they fill their minds with acceptance from friends, parents and social media. ____36____ Here’s how to ease the fashion stress and start believing in yourself.
____37____ What is in this season may not be cool the next time. Don’t get stuck in thinking about the clothes to wear because it will only make you confused. The first thing you should consider is the comfort. There’s no point in wearing the latest trends (趋势) if you are not absolutely comfortable. But if you are, then that’s great!
The trends that many people follow also came from their fashion identity. That identity is theirs, and we cannot follow ideas that are socially acceptable every time. Make your own fashion identity. It doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you still dress properly for the occasion. For example, in the office, you probably wear smart casual (休闲的) clothes. ____38____ This is the way to build your fashion identity.
Fashion trends mean copying. You go out, then find someone who has the same clothes as yours. Following trends means you are one of them. Most of us buy our clothes from the stores and we know we’re not the only one with the same design. ____39____ The best way to go about this is to wear it differently.
If you feel stressed for not buying a particular dress, don’t feel bad. You’re not alone. Not everyone can afford the clothes that they want. ____40____ It is a practical guide that helps you focus on what truly suits you. Remember, confidence doesn’t come from a price — it comes from wearing what feels right for you.
A. Consider your wallet.
B. Fashion doesn’t last forever.
C. So how will you stand out?
D. Are the clothes comfortable for you?
E. An expensive classic coat goes with everything.
F. Ultimately, fashion pressures come from the influence of others.
G. Make sure you pick the colors and prints showing your personality.
F 37. B 38. G 39. C 40. A

根据上文“Nowadays, many teenagers are suffering from fashion stress. They struggle to find their identities because they fill their minds with acceptance from friends, parents and social media.(如今,许多青少年正承受着时尚带来的压力。
根据后文“What is in this season may not be cool the next time. Don’t get stuck in thinking about the clothes to wear because it will only make you confused. The first thing you should consider is the comfort. There’s no point in wearing the latest trends (趋势) if you are not absolutely comfortable. But if you are, then that’s great!(这个季节流行的东西可能下次就不流行了。
根据上文“The trends that many people follow also came from their fashion identity. That identity is theirs, and we cannot follow ideas that are socially acceptable every time. Make your own fashion identity. It doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you still dress properly for the occasion. For example, in the office, you probably wear smart casual 是对该例子的延伸补充,且后一句“This is the way to build your fashion identity.(这便是塑造个人时尚个性的方式)”中的“this”,正是指代G句的具体做法,形成直接的指代衔接。
You go out, then find someone who has the same clothes as yours. Following trends means you are one of them. Most of us buy our clothes from the stores and we know we’re not the only one with the same design.(时尚潮流意味着模仿。
根据上文“If you feel stressed for not buying a particular dress, don’t feel bad. You’re not alone. Not everyone can afford the clothes that they want.(如果你因为没有买某件特定的裙子而感到焦虑,那也没关系。别太自责了。这种情况并非个例。并非每个人都能买得起自己想要的衣服)”以及后文“It is a practical guide that helps you focus on what truly suits you. Remember, confidence doesn’t come from a price — it comes from wearing what feels right for you.(这是一本实用指南,能帮助您明确自己真正适合的款式。请记住,自信并非源自价格,而是源自穿着让自己感觉舒适自在的服饰)”可知,所在段落围绕“不必因买不起衣服而焦虑”展开,前一句明确“不是每个人都能买得起自己想要的衣服”,A句是对该观点的提炼,点明缓解这种焦虑的关键是“考虑自己的经济实力”。A句“考虑钱包”符合语境。故选A。

Li Hua
Dear Jenny,
I’m glad to hear that you’re planning to offer a new course. Between the two choices, I would suggest “English Speech”.
Firstly, speech is a useful skill that can serve us well in our studies and careers. We can improve logical thinking and build up confidence. Secondly, speech is easier for most students to get started with. Unlike drama, which requires teamwork and much rehearsal time, speech can be practiced individually. Besides, the ability to express ourselves clearly and powerfully is important in today’s world.
I believe this course will be well received. Hope my suggestion helps.

When I was in eighth grade, my family moved to a new city. I left behind my friends, my school, and everything I had known since kindergarten. On the first day of my new school, I was frightened. I stood at the gate, watching students laugh and chat with their friends, feeling like an outsider.
My new school was much bigger than my old one. The hallways were crowded and noisy. I felt like I might get lost. As I walked to my first class, a group of students passed by and one of them accidentally bumped into me, knocking my books out of my hands. Without even looking back, they continued walking. I knelt down to pick up my books, trying hard to hold back tears.
Then I heard footsteps stop beside me. I looked up and saw a girl with a friendly smile. “Let me help you,” she said, picking up my books. “Hey, I haven’t seen you around here before. Are you new?”
I nodded, feeling my face turn red.
“I’m Sophie,” she said. “What class do you have first?” I showed her my schedule and her face lit up. “No way! We’re in the same class! You can walk with me and I’ll show you around.”
Over the next few weeks, Sophie introduced me to her friends, invited me to sit with them at lunch, and always made sure I wasn’t left out. Thanks to her, I began to feel like I belonged. But I had no idea that one day I would be given the chance to repay her kindness.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One afternoon in October, I noticed Sophie sitting alone on the playground bench, looking sad. I had never seen her like that before. She was always the one who cheered everyone else up. I walked over and sat down beside her. “Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked gently. She didn’t answer at first. Then her voice broke. “My grandma passed away last night,” she whispered. “I don’t know how to deal with it. I’ve never felt so lost and alone.” I remembered how she had helped me on my first day. Now it was my turn to help her. I put my arm around her shoulder. “I’m here for you, Sophie,” I said. “You don’t have to go through this alone.” For a long time, we just sat there in silence, and that was enough.
A week after her Grandma’s funeral (葬礼), Sophie walked up to me after school. I was worried that something else was wrong. But she smiled — a real, warm smile. “Thank you,” she said. “I don’t think I ever thanked you properly for being there for me. You reminded me what friendship is truly about — showing up when it matters most.” I felt my eyes get watery. “You did the same for me on my first day,” I said. “Remember? You were the one who made me feel like I belonged.” That day, we both realized something beautiful: the kindness you give to others has a way of coming back when you least expect it. And that’s the true gift of friendship.

C. Doubtful. D. Worried.
